“You Kuuipo” & “La Bamba” - Ukulele Festival Hawaii 2014 -- Willie K and Strummers

44th Annual Ukulele Festival in Waikiki, HI on July 20, 2014 features Hawaii's phenomenal entertainer Willie K and over 500 children and adults performing "You Kuuipo" & "La Bamba".
Roy Sakuma started the first and original ukulele festival in 1971 and today the festival is an international event attracting performers young and old from around the world and an ukulele orchestra of hundreds of children. In 2004 Roy and Kathy Sakuma established Ukulele Festival Hawaii, a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to bring laughter, love and hope to children and adults throughout Hawaii and the world through the music of the ukulele. I hope that all of these 'ukulele players know how fortunate they were to play with the late, great Willie K. And to have it on video! It's so sad that there cannot be a gathering like this to share the music and Aloha for his memorial services or any music event in the near future...

This guy walked into a bar on Maui in 1987 with a feather in his hat and two pretty girls on his arms.. The guy playing acoustic handed him his guitar. Willie proceeded to play LaBamba and he knocked it out of the park!. I had no idea who he was until last year.. A friend from Maui told me to look him up on UA-cam.. Sure enough it's him. Word is he played with Hendrix back in the day when Hendrix lived there before his unfortunate death.. Pretty cool to find him after all those years..
