The story of the death of Capt. John Hanham highlights the harsh, and sometimes very cruel, nature of the British military system. It is worth remembering that Great Britain was the last European nation to abolish flogging in its armed forces and this took place in 1881! The cause of Capt. Hanham´s death was his own stupidity (or cruelty); had he been a sensible man he would not have punished the soldier or just dismissed him with a reprimand.
PS: How adorable the little doggie in the library!
This is one of the nicest, if not THE nicest, videos produced by Julie. The Hanham family is wonderful, as well as all the staff that works in the estate. However, if I had to single out anyone it would be Louise Marshall, what a lovely lady she is! The way she cares for those adorable animals is admirable. A wonderful video, truly 10 out of 10! Congratulations!
Agreed. Stupendous. Thank you, Viscountess.
I agree. Wonderful episode❣️👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you I'm going to continue watching I'm a quarter of the way in.
This English homestead is actually OLDER than England itself, unreal!
Really hard to imagine , isn't it ? Unfathomable . I really need some well designed British traditional emoticons . Complete with Harris Tweed , Pipes , Period Spectacles , etc..

🤯
the creativity of the men who designed, engineered, and built these homes is unbelievable
Only 11 minutes in and barely seeing the place, and by golly isn't it gorgeous! I love those archways 🤗💚
Freezing cold conditions! 🥶 These people should be given medals for living in these barns.
For some reason, I never fast forward the intro of Julie’s monologue to the car, and the drive away to the location we’re visiting. I JUST realized that I never fast forwarded that part. It’s like the opening of a meditation session for me ❤❤❤❤❤I love this channel.
Sending love to you and yours from Orlando, Florida, USA
I do the exact same. Love it every time.
I absolutely love Georgian architecture!
Another amazing home with an incredible history! The reading of the widow's message in the box at about 20 minutes in just did me in, as stated, that was true love. Gorgeous home, an excellent video, very much appreciate learning about all of the details, incredible that it was a monastery in the year 700 !!!
That was wonderful, thank you!😊
How fantastic • So very glad it has been restored and still standing all these years. Thank you for sharing.
This is a repeat of a long time ago. Very well done.
Beautiful Julie, beautiful video. I particularly enjoyed the peacefulness of watching you in the water.
The lady of the house looks just like the other older lady of the house. Williams mother. Amazing.
This is truly wonderful
Wow I have got to try cooking rice with fig leaves. Thanks for sharing that. I love the tour and learning more about Dean’s Court, English History and how beautiful the house is. I’ve been to Dorset and Poole and didn’t know that all this was nearby. I stayed at Sandbanks.
Oh! That sad note from Hanham's widow made me cry! How bitter the pain of love is.
Such wonderful history in this beautiful home. Thank you so much for sharing ‼️👏‼️👏 ✨💫
Well done Julie - thanks again for this one.
Thank you for showing and sharing the amazing historical place and the wounder's of such an interesting place.
Watching from Israel.
If I could live like this, in this beautiful home with so much history, all the wonderful stories! I would live happily ever after!
💖💖💖💖💖 I LOVE THIS AMAZING DEAN’S COURT CREATION INSIDE AND OUT AND THE LOVELY FAMILY WITHIN AND WITHOUT!!!
Julie thank you for the video and also with a lot of history and beautiful garden.
Hands down one of the most beautiful (to me) homes featured so far. I would move there just to enjoy these history homes.
What a fabulous old home. They obviously love it too.Its nice when the family know all the history and have things like letters and paintings and photos to put faces to the people they are talking about. It sounds like a remarkable family. They were so welcoming too which was so nice and I think you really enjoyed this one as it was an adventure for you too with the fly fishing and the exploring down stairs too.I really enjoyed this one too..Thank you 🥰
I love this! Absolutely stunning! Such history here! Thank you, Julie..you are Awesome! From Maine, USA
Isn't this an older episode?
Yes, it is
It sure is. The reason I remember is the widow’s bedroom paint color. French grey.
Pretty sure it's the combination of the shorter episodes on Dean's Court
@@harrytuttle0 that makes sense, because it felt very familiar to me.
What a wonderful history!! Wow. I think this might be the best visit of an estate you’ve done yet! It’s interesting to see the different dispositions or personalities of the families of the estates you visit- this family seem really passionate about their home, and relatively progressive and down to earth- lovely. I love their little dog Buster! There are coffee table books here in Australia about wine estate dogs and the dogs personalities/ likes/ dislikes- I’d love something like that on your channel. As for your fear of cattle- you should meet dairy cattle- because they’re handled twice a day they’re very sweet/ docile. ❤
Wonderful! Thank you for working so hard presenting preservation of family history and heritage. Although, you must list where you purchase your clothes. Love your blouses and dresses....so becoming. Living vicariously through your channel.
Thanks for sharing
Julie, that was FABULOUS! I'm recuperating (praise the Lord) from an illness, and your videos are like a balm and a therapy! I've been following you off and on for some time, but now playing catch-up! Am so looking forward to seeing the completion of your beautiful library and the display of the fabulous gowns and treasures of your fellow American Viscountess of long ago! Thank you also for inviting us along your day to day life, in this beautiful country you have inherited, not by birth, but by LOVE!
Big hug, from
WallaWalla, Washington!
I really love the blue walls and white woodwork! It's very very nice. I love blue. What a great video! So instructive! That little doggie just adds the perfect touch!
Thank you for sharing this. It just shows how we really are connected to our past. Beautiful video.
AND a classic/vintage vette????? i don't think i could live such a shabby life!!! lol. wonderful visit and thank-you for sharing!!! i looooove this kind of stuff as it allows me to do the traveling i never got to do.
Truly enjoying this content, thank you so much for your time and dedication to this. I hope you cover Longleat House someday as I am interested in learning more about the Marquess and Marchioness of Bath as well. Keep up the excellent work!
Loved everything about this video.thank you👍💞🌈🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed it!
What an interesting and wonderful place 🙏❤ Thank you for sharing with us ☺
What a wonderful vlog. So interesting. The Hannon family are so down to earth and industrious. Thank you for sharing this with us!
I have been absolutely aghast at so may of the interiors I have seen in these architecturally glorious houses, but the interiors of this house are perfect ...perfectly beautiful and appropriate.
I love this show! Julie is a natural and brilliant tv host and personality. It would be great to find resources for a professional stylist and make-up artist.
Lovely vlog Julie. Thank you
One of your best visits! I enjoyed every minute!
This is a beautiful video!! 🐑 🐐 🪴 🙏 for sharing
One of the best videos. Possibly my favorite.
Thank you for giving mental health importance, so people are not ashamed to ask for help.
Thankyou; a complete joy.
Utterly fascinating! Wonderful!!
Why is it when the Gardener said " a nice big juicy one " I immediately thought of the handsome son-in-law 🤔 ? How very naughty of me . 🤦 The son-in-law seems rather neglected in this video about gloriously well designed architecture . 😅🤷🤦Any 🍆 in that spectacular garden ? I must confess I was wrong in a previous video about Libraries will blue walls . This color blue in this gorgeous Library is stunning and brings out the beautiful dark wood furniture . The grain of the wood comes alive next to the blue walls . This blue seems warm and cozy and not cold as I would imagine blue walls to be . This blue color is perfect for a Library and I'm going to presume that the windows , natural light , and the direction of the room with regards to sunlight places a factor in the warmth of the room and the blue not appearing cold or depressing . The story of the widow and her letter ✉ and note 📝 about the bullet was very touching and heartbreaking . Love the history of these homes as well as the families history . Thank all of you for sharing with us .
Absolutely lovely!!!
Excellent video thx
Repeat episode?
Yes, they did it in a few videos, 2 years ago. This is not the first time I've seen them do this😢.
Yes this is done with most of these UA-cam channels, so that new commers can watch them, sometimes return for updates and I personally go back and re-watch many of them often I always see or hear details I may had missed the first time or I may not have remembered lol 😀 I love Julie's presentations and enthusiasm for true History 👍😊 ❤ Enjoy !!!
Love watching you guys
Hi Julie!!! Love everything you do!!! I’m sure you have seen Hopwood hall restoration. I wonder if your family has any connections to his through the centuries. Hopwood is doing a major restoration on his family home and I think would be cool if you 2 Americans connected. You both have what seems to be boundless energy and positivity.
Beautiful, thank you
Amazing resemblance of the new generation and the 19th century widow. ..they are so much alike.
I live in GRESHAM,OREGON and my aunt was OUEEN Victoria my aunt 7generation . I really love seeing These homes.
Hope someday I can actually stay in one
I just love whatever Julie hosts! This is a great episode!
Simply a stunning estate on a river! I must say your husband certainly married exceptionally well. What a workhorse you are for the family estate and entire family 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
PS. Love those 70’s jeans!! I had a pair exactly like them. Except I couldn’t get in to them now 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
They’re back in style don’t ya know ❣️ And I love them❣️👏🏻👏🏻
@@hollykeller1545 oh I do love them . Did then and do now 👍
Me too! Stylish but comfortable 😊
Fascinated with Cordelia . I know this home ! Hello Julie from Kane County Illinois ! 🌽❤
Wonderful
Julie interrupts a bit much, I would have like to hear the owners finish their thoughts. But otherwise a lovely post.
This is a gorgeous place and video! But the constant gasping is annoying me so much LOL You're amazing Julie - never change :) But the gasping is driving me nuts haha
How blessed you are to enjoy this luxury, of course the back story has issues of English wealth.
Awesome.
thank you very much.
Didn't you already post this? I'm sure I saw it a few months ago....
Yes they did, 2 years ago.😢
Beautiful place
Sir William Hanham emphasized the broader significance of social history, encapsulating the shared understanding of landscape, environment, and communal heritage, which grounds cultural identity. It's essential to recognize the contributions of ordinary people, including tenants, servants, and possibly slaves, to the legacy of grand estates. While acknowledging respect for these historic houses and their occupants, it's evident that they often exist in a privileged bubble, detached from the realities of ordinary citizens. Questions arise regarding their engagement with broader societal concerns, such as charitable contributions. Despite their titles and grandeur, their focus appears insular. It's worth noting that within the peerage, a Baron holds the lowest rank, merely denoting nobility with land ownership..Whilst a baronetcy is not a peerage; so baronets, like knights and junior members of peerage families, are commoners and not peers of the realm
Copy and paste the wall paper many wall paper companies can do it.
The TL story is really intense..❤
In a turquoise Corvette with the steering wheel on the left side.
Darling you do not let people talk. :( Other than that, brilliant!
The outside of the house looks a bit rough but if someone gave it to me, I would take it without a second thought
Rescued sheep ❤
is this a re-upload? I remember watching this. Also, Abode and Real Royalty has the same video.
Yes, they did it in a few videos 2 years ago. They have done this a few times , 😢
You already showcased this home a while back. Is it just a re-upload with each of the episodes put together?? Confused 😕
Does it get any cuter than Buster?❤ and of course the property is stunning 😍
😍👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤗🤗
Wasn't there a horrific murder there in 1985? Battered to death with a typewriter if I recall correctly
Fabulous car!
Julie , please adopt the principle of “less is more” particularly in relation to your commentary and your habit of repeating what your hosts have just said
Still trying to find out about your ponies, sheep, beavers, etc. It was 8 months ago. How are they doing? The children’s park. How did that turn out? Thank you in advance for your response. ❤
Patterson will pay !!!!
I looked up the history and the family, and it says there’s no heir. What happens when there’s no heir? Does it go into the care of the national trust?
How’s the Italian kitchen coming along? 🤔😎🙃
This one looks like the mansion from The Gentlemen
He had to have meant Henry Viii? He mentioned Henry VII straight to Edward Vi? Or did not hear that correctly?
❤
Did King Alfred visit the manor?
Fish upstream. 😂1:11:05.. and stay silent
It can look better on the outside 😊.
ok, right, oh my God, ok, ok, all right, there, ok, ok, ok, there, ok, ok, right, ok, ok, yeah, ok.....
😂
Not growling.....but definitely feel the need to say nope...leave our Sophie alone. This event is one of the first very important events that Edward and Sophie have stood in Prince Phillips shoes. It would have been hugely emotional for both of them. Both extremely close to the late Duke of Edinburgh...and the significance of this special day. Hugely close to their hearts. Her coat was probably the last thing on her mind. Think if you had a dad who did the same thing for 50 years and it was something all your neighbours loved to watch and then he died and you had to do it...not an easy task ...😢The new Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh looked perfect and appropriate. Weather changeable appropriate, age appropriate and occasion appropriate .
You gotta remember you are not in UK...everyone wears coats in uk..maybe it wasn't fitting properly with no time to remedy. Most of the family lost a lot of weight after the Queens death, no doubt from grief and stress thanks to Henry and Rachel and ridiculous pathetic reporters talking rubbish during a very sad time for everyone in the commonwealth. Especially UK. Nobody in uk would have cared about a coat taking the edge off the chilly spring breeze. Especially at this event. Big historic importance.
Also The gorgeous Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh doesn't dress to stand out. Only prominent monarch is supposed to...to be easily seen by the public and to stand out in photos on special occasions.
You need to understand that the working royals are not there to stand out. They are not the stars...the French soldiers were the focus in this instance.
Duchess Sophie and Princess Royal will never be seen in anything of a fashion stand out unless its a state dinner or such.
Their goal is,and always will be to ensure focus goes onto whom they are giving recognition to.
Unfortunately this has been efd up thanks to Tabloids not knowing, caring or respecting what a life of service actually means.
Its not about what any woman is wearing. Its what she is doing. Ditto for the men.
1300 years ago there was a georgian mansion built 😂
His cruelty deserved to be punished.
Hi American Viscoutess. Lovely house at Deans Court! Like your comments on mental health. Mental hearth is serious - it covers all the functions in life. People should read the Bible to stay sane.& acknowledge God & the Saviour Jesus. If we look at the Old Testament or the Bible Nebuchadnezzar & blessing. He was driven mad & led to live in the wild because he did not acknowledge God as the source of all that he had or accomplished.
Let's enjoy the houses Ms. Viscount & give thanks. Bless Badger.
Julie is absolutely gorgeous
Would you be kind enough to post the Instagram page for his daughter? Thank you.
There may be some footings down deep under, but that is all about this house that could be "8th century". But then, leave it to an "American viscountess" to not know the difference--how lucky, she has a paid sponsorship with a "mental health" business, in case education doesn't work.
The level of animal fear to a domesticated animal is ridiculous. 🤨
Errr, not my history, lady!
May we all pile on some bullshi*!!!!!!!
