Now you are in my history. My paternal grandfather immigrated from Scotland, age 18, early in the 1900s. I wish I could have traveled there. At 79, I'm to old. God Bless You Julie 💖🇺🇸
This is such a beautiful tour of Scone Palace. Sophy, The Countess of Mansfield and William, Viscount Stormont were informative and gracious and made the tour of their home feel welcoming. These a brilliantly put together educational videos that are a delight to enjoy.
I live in a small village a few miles from Scone Palace, it's a beautiful place to visit , I've been many times , for walks, coffee, lunch and great for kids and dogs
Amazing! Robert the Bruce was my 14th Great Grandfather ❤! He was an amazing man from what I've watched and read! Charles II was 5th cousin! Thank you Julie for this wonderful video! 🎉 Beautiful castle and amazing history!Stunning embroidery! Our family dates to Stuarts, Craig's and Tudors. I love all of this history! Lovely trees! Thank you so much Julie, Countess and Viscount!!!! I will definitely visit one day! ❤🎉
That's so cool. I'm related to his mother... according to the moodie book. My 9th great grandparents were the laird's of Cocklaw and Thornton but his daughter moved to Australia so I too enjoy learning about the family history from UA-cam.
I am a descendant of Robert the Bruce ...(proven through genetic testing ) ...i live in Oklahoma most of my ancestors lived around or in Oklahoma ... we had stories in the family of being descended from Robert the Bruce but never knew they were true until the testing proved it to be true .that set off my curiosity or everything about Robert the Bruce and now i crave all the info to add to my families story ...i will probably never travel outside of America or even Oklahoma to see where he stepped foot once upon a time ..but thank you so much for showing me something that my ancestors once walked / lived /visited it makes them come to life for me and i am able to share truthful facts with my mom who is elderly to make her feel like she came from something pretty special and its all proven fact and no one can take that away from us .....i cant thank you enough for the care and making and putting out this video for people who may have descended from a prolific person in the past we can now put our histories together and seam the bond of our families who paved the way for us ...
What an amazing Castle Julie!!! Thank you for the information imparted about this historic place. I am a descendant of The Stewarts of Bute yet 'we' use the spelling of Stuart; when that was changed by my ancestors I have no idea but that is my middle name coming from this great source. Our seat is Mount Stuart on the Island of Bute. Just a little history for you. :)
I live in Scotland and I just love seeing are amazing history and are historical roots so watching your channel it has really made me want to explore more of the amazing Scottish history
I was thrilled to see the Douglas fir. I was born, bred and live in the Pacific Northwest (USA) surrounded by Douglas firs all my life, sometimes in my home at Xmas. Knew they were discovered by and named for David Douglas and that he was a Scottish botanist. Didn't know he was born and raised at Scone and started his career there. So glad he was able to bring a Douglas fir seed back and plant it at Scone! Merges my Scottish heritage too-- among others, I have direct Moray/Murray and Douglas ancestors-- rabid admirer of the Jacobites, the Jacobite Murrays, etc., love the story of Isabella MacDuff racing to crown The Bruce on behalf of her brother/family tradition (not included here), and especially liked personal enthusiasm in presenting stories of the estate, the items displayed, the rooms by the Countess and Lord Stormont. Their love for Scone shines. I saw the Stone of Scone with my own eyes under the Coronation throne in 1978 at Westminster Abbey and am so happy it's where it belongs at Scone. I wish my visit to Scotland back then had included Scone. I smell the fresh scent of Douglas fir. 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
Great episode Julie and I cannot wait for second ! I think Scone Palace is one of my favorite places to see and learn about. So much history in such a beautiful place. 🏴 🙌
Charles II, Earl of Sandwich, Sandwich island etc etc this is why history is so fascinating, how pieces of it fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. Brilliant video. TY
That castle is definitely a must see in my future travels. Not to mention I am a lover of trees. I love the tradition of royalty planting trees. My cat Willy loves the peacock.
They’ve always been brilliant, but I have to say .. your videos get better and better each and every time. I loved this, especially the idea of “A Victorian Disco” .. I wonder if Cher performed?! 😜
Beautiful place 😎 I think I'm more impressed by the grounds than inside haha. I'm in Far North Queensland at the moment and took a trip to a town called Ingham last weekend. Your family is also remembered there through their sponsorship of Captain Cook's voyage down the east coast of Australia. There's quite a few Himchinbrooke (they got the spelling wrong lol) things- a hotel in the Main Street, streets, a port etc and the largest island National park in Australia that's offshore from there. Was cool seeing it as a viewer of your channels.
Discovering this channel was like finding an ancient time capsule, the wealth of knowledge is superb, and the personal touch that Julie brings to it is simply priceless!Btw does anyone know what that object at 29:00 is ?It's a sword in stone, obviously, but I would Like to know its significance .Sending my best BOSTON USA/KNIGHTSBRIDGE UK.....
This place is about the best I have seen so far! It is stunning & the history of it is fantastic. I noticed a stuffed Peacock inside the house so I am guessing they have always been kept here. Their cries would take a lot of getting used to.
I love going along on all your tours but for some reason I loved this one even more. Thank you for giving me a glimpse into places I just couldn’t afford to go to in person.
Julie, thank you so much for this episode. I went to David Douglas High School in Oregon. There are many Douglas firs planted on the property. It was the largest High School in the state of Oregon for many years. We learned David Douglas’ story in history class, but you just added more facts. Tell your friends he is still honored to this day in Oregon.
I was blessed to visit Scone Palace over 30 years ago. It was wonderful to see the changes and yet also everything that has stayed the same over the years in your video. Thank You Julie for bringing us along to the Beautiful Home.
Thank you so much for visiting Scone Castle, although I would never have realised it was pronounced this way as in Australia we say Scon Not scoon or scone as in cone. My grandmother was English from Brighton & made the most yummiest of scon(e)s & cooked with a fuel stove. I can't make a successful one at all as mine always came out like concrete blocks, no matter how carefully I followed the experts!! My pastry is also like concrete, you scrape the topping off & play Frisbee with the base!! However, I could make an excellent sponge which were my favourites anyway. I absolutely loved the history in this place. I am a McDonald on my grandfather's side of the family tree. However, I have more Northern Irish in me than the rest of my heritage put together. 🤣
Hi Julie and team. Just finished watching; always watch on my TV so unable to comment, but had to log-in to say, this was one of my favorite episodes. Love how slow and detailed the tour was and the family is so nice. Each time watching a show I want so badly to fly over and tour. Someday, hopefully God will open a door for me to fly over. One other comment, the Doug fir! Wow, loved the story and what an interesting way it’s growing. Love Doug fir; I’m in Portland, Oregon, and they grow here like weeds-have four huge ones (would take two people to hug one) in my back yard. Plus the story of all the trees was so fun to hear. Trees are amazing for how long they live, and knowing who planted them can be a bit mind blowing. Anyway, I’m a newer fan, quietly following your work, and am so glad I fell upon your channels. Thank you for your work in sharing these historic homes with all of us around the world. Would love to meet you someday. Can’t wait to see more of this beautiful castle/home. Amy
Kenneth McAlpin is my direct 37th GGF , I am also decended from ,Anglo Saxon royalty, Irish royalty, Welsh , royalty, Stewart's, Bruce, William Marshall, William the conqueror, Plantagenets, and French Royalty most are direct GG PARENTS ❤ interestingly many of them fought each other !! Bonjour à tous from Nantes in 🇨🇵. Here too, in old houses, there were "La Chambre du Roi". There is a XVe c manoir, nearby, where you can still see the outside stairs that used to lead to the Royal Room. By the way, hello to Lady S.
Hi from Chicago. Beautiful palace and so much history. Is this the palace that has the Dido Elizabeth Belle and Lady Elizabeth Portrait? That is a fascinating story.
The American Vicountess has no interest in the people of colour attached to any of these historical houses/castles... Trust me I know. I'm a black British born uk 🇬🇧 & NOT once has she asked questions or referenced anything of the kind, EVER! FYI; Dido Belle, lived in Kenworth House, in Hampsted Heath, north London, our capital city.
@@dionnegonsalves8188 i mean Dido probably never set foot in Scone Palace, while Lady Elizabeth probably a lot, since her younger brother was the one who built the current Scone Palace, not just that he also employed Lady Elizabeth's architect to do some repair at Kenwood House
I've wanted to ask for some time, the very thing the brought me to this channel, was the blue Corvette. What happened to it? I've watched every episode up til this one, and it's only seen in the introduction. I'm a fan for sure, but would love to know why it's not in any episodes. Thank you for great content
I remember this question came up a year or so ago and Julie answered that the car belongs to her producer and was just on loan for that one day of filming.
Yes, a very beautiful place with a rich history going way back in time. Its good to hear the comments from Lady Mansfield about the stone of destiny, its a much held belief in Scotland that the stone of destiny has never left Scotland. It was supposed to be Jacobs pillow, from the biblical stories, and was a black stone with mysterious carvings. The stone that Edward I stole from Scone in 1296 was a block of locally quarried red sandstone, and the monks let them take it with no opposition, that should answer the question of was it real or not. One of the parallel events at this time was that Edward I also stole all of the royal records from Scotland that the monks held and the ship that was carrying these records down to London sank with the loss of all of the historical documents.
I was listening to the video for a moment while doing a chore and had to come back to the screen to figure out what cat was being so loud in the video…. Just to find out that it’s peacocks honking 😭😭😭😭

One of the best historical homes Julie has done. Love it.
The best mansions don't need to be pimped out for tourist tickets, the owners make money, not the mansion

They seem so nice and normal! What a lovely house.
