Philipa Wood is so interesting to listen to! A very good Curator. The lady of Burton house is such a lovely person and her son. ‘They made it through the night of hell’. So well said and it suits!
Hats off to these old families trying their hardest to keep these historical homes viable for the next generation. Any country, not just England, needs grants for their heritage. Thank you Julie for this series. So enjoyable.
@@Qrtuop how do you turn a house with water pouring in from a bad roof into a museum? With no money. These unique one of a kind historical homes must be saved as a monuments to the nation.
@@larrynelson3329 You may be interested to know that thisbuiilding is in fact a museum, and is no longer owned by the Constable family. It is instead managed by the Burton Constable Foundation, a charitable trust.
Julie is right, there are always stories to tell in these great houses. And thanks to Julie we get to hear some of these wonderful tid-bits! I liked that about QV coming to visit in a hot air ballon!😅
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy these videos love seeing the inside, the history behind the Chateaus just all of it. Thanks so much for sharing. Barb from Canada 😊
I love these videos. As a person that loves history, I must say that it's a joy watching these videos and learning a lot of things that we usually overlook.
I have been reading Samuel Pepys diaries for many years. Seeing the tie between Pepy’s and the Montague family and Julie Montague’s videos is just totally amazing for me. Thank you for your wonderful videos that you and your husband have done! It is like living history from the 1700’s through to modern times!
It is such a shame that Americans do not have this mindset...to keep a family home in the family for generations. History, of any kind, does need to be perserved. Thank you for this historical tour. (First time watching) GOD BLESS 🙏💜
Julie, great episode! I don’t know how you resist the urge to touch everything like a kid in a candy shop! You strike me as someone who hears the objects :)
so happy another lovely family has worked so hard and will continue to work hard to keep this incredible home for the future generations to learn from and to appreciate the history contained within!
Thank you for bringing to our attention and for all you do for these magnificent places, Julie. Mapperton has been lovingly and beautifully restored to much of it's former glory, since you began UA-cam! Annie:)
My cousin and her family used to live on the grounds in the hound keeper cottage and help out with the house! And my great aunt Aida used to volunteer checking tickets etc. I spent many a happy summer on the grounds and in the manner!!!
Hi Julie, stunning, Burton Constable Hall, is magnificent. I am so happy the family is during everything to keep it viable. It is so beautiful, I love the staircase, and I agree the yellow is perfect. I could sit and listen to you all day long. Thank you so much for this channel. Love from N.Y.
I remember sitting in a concert in probably the 1980’s staring at that yellow paint and hating the colour! It all looks in a much better state now that’s then. Well worth a revisit.
I love all these tours of beautiful castles and the history. Ive always wanted to go and visit as many castles as i could but with six kids i couldn't. they are all grown up and they all love castles. They have visited haunted castles and loved . Thank you for sharing
A wonderful look at another historic British family home. I think a large part of what makes your videos so special is your connection to the lives of these families trying to preserve a part of history. On a side note - watching a video a few days ago about a gorgeous New Orleans home and they pointed out a (reproduction) portrait of the Viscountess Hinchingbrook. Didn’t mention which one, but it certainly got my attention! A connection I wouldn’t have had without your channel. 😊
Hi Julie, I just love when u visit the families of these amazing castles and we're able to hear their stories. I would love to see how Pitchford Hall is coming along since your last video, it was so spooky but also so amazing!
Julie, I’ve got to tell you that your channel has come a long way from when you first started. Your videos are now first-rate. Most of all I love that you gush for all of us, me especially, when you encounter the beautiful homes. I’m also a Chicago girl!❤
Absolutely fascinating. Curious to know when the house was not lived in for 50 years. How did they keep all the paintings and furniture from literally deteriorating?
I love your channel looking at our little island that is oozing history from an outsider's eyes. I was wondering whether you had ever looked at Luton Hoo in Bedfordshire. From the little I know Queen Elizabeth and Philip spent part of their honeymoon there. The owner at that time was a relative of the Romanovs and they had a fabulous collection of Fabergé items however it then takes a very sad downturn. I thought it's story might interest you and of course the rest of us
I'd be so happy if i were to see the this episode if i were the family. The interview was seamless and organic and climatic right to the end great work ☺️
Another incredible story Julie ! The post War tragedies of these country houses saddens me immensely! But I have a question that looms over me after watching these episodes. Do these country houses have their own family Cemeteries on the estate? It would seem to me that with ancestors going back hundreds of years there would be cemeteries forming their own parks if you will !
Hi Julie - great video , I’m binge watching today … I just finished your tour of Pitchford and talking about lost treasures…… I think I found a lost treasure of Hitchingbrook … I was watching an episode of Homeworthy, the episode in New Orleans , they have a painting they inherited by a interior decorator who bought it in England many many years ago , it’s a portrait of one of the early Countess of Hitchingbrook, she is wearing a yellow dress much like the color of the walls at the Constable house .
Hi Julie, love these tours. Sorry to add this comment on this video but i am wondering if you will ever get to Coughton Court and garden in Warwickshire? Built in 1409 and still owned by the family. Would love to see this as the Throckmorton’s are my ancestors and i have never been there.
❤ Fabulous video well done. I did film here myself recently but from above with a drone as it is just as magnificent on the ground as it is in the air. Love it 😊
I genuinely enjoyed this. As an American, you know all too well that rich history is not our strong suit, and what little we have is constantly under attack. It's so encouraging to see productions like this in cultures that appreciate their history as well as try to preserve it.
You have such a disappointing attitude and a poor understanding of ‘rich history’. The ‘constantly under attack’ comment is particularly tone deaf. Hopefully there’s a way for you to educate yourself on the full history of your country so you can understand it in a more honest and nuanced way rather than in a one-eyed way. Do try to be a better person.

What Im interested in seeing is the servants quarters and the kitchens and locations they worked in because those homes were/are grand, but those who kept them running had their own portion of the homes. Show us those parts too.
The one thing that worries me seeing all these wonderful historic places are the roofs. The UK government should set aised funds to help keep the roofs up. As long as they do that everything underneath is at least safe from rotting away.
I can’t make out the comments at 12:29… Something about lady Margaret not giving up her Catholic faith & being allowed to walk the corridors to prevent anyone else getting in trouble?? Can anyone explain this?
Since lady Margaret refused to give up her faith and was angering the queen, her son banned her from certain parts of the house so he could hopefully separate the rest of the family from any consequences her actions might cause. That gallery room was one of the few parts of the house she was still allowed to be in freely.
im getting saltburn vibes from this house. im just hoping the family who now owns this house arent rich ppl who do nothing all day, celebrate overly large parties, and allow strangers to stay in this house indefinitely
The concept of a 700 year old Elizabethan Mansion does not work - unless you are talking of Elizabeth de Burgh, consort of Robert the Bruce - and that doesnt tie in with England
Iv watched this channel from the very beginning...and im happy to see how its grown...it must be seen on every more channel....its a fantastic show !! ...and well done to the TRUE!+! Americans princess...Julie ❤
Not my favorite format of the new videos. Not a fan of the flipping back and forth from the drawing room back to location. It made it feel choppy and disconnected.

Why should the public support a family that apparently made their fortunes on the death of of millions and still could not maintain stewardship over their wealth. Disgusting, unethical and immoral.
I think something called WW2 might have had a bit to do with that. Anyway, seems to me that all they are trying to do is preserve a bit of history for future generations.
No one makes you watch Julie’s videos. I’m so interested in the manor homes. Julie has been a Godsend for the Montagu family for her efforts to save their family home. I enjoy every episode.
The state should not support this family, but certainly the public has a right to spend their money as they see fit. I pray I am judged by my morals, my values, and my beliefs, and NOT by anything of which I had no choice in making. Regardless of whether or not historical properties are of interest to one such as yourself, there is no denying they mean a lot to others. I’m grateful for the hard work and ingenuity it takes to maintain and curate these old, old houses, and that I, as a paying patron, have the opportunity to visit these places, and I can appreciate the “richness” of personal stories associated with them. The preservation of history and the artifacts that substantiate historical narratives is valuable to the annals of humanity; it most often reminds us of what NOT to do, by remembering what was done wrongly.

Ok if it’s Elizabethan house and it’s 700 years old that’s not adding up wouldn’t that be before Queen Elizabeth I ?
If it's 700 years old then it's close to 300 years older than the first Elizabeth.
It would have been nice to see more things. The B roll was a bit repetitive this time.
