I’ve enjoyed and commented on your videos from time to time. For this video, I’ll say I’ve been blessed to work with both Sally and Burt. And also Sally’s Sister who many don’t know about. All were amazing experiences. But one of the most eye opening books I’ve read was Sally’s biography she purposefully published after Burt’s death. I listened to the Audio Book. And honestly it’s incredible. I do audio books quite often. And prefer the biographies where the actual person reads it too us. This personal reading adds a huge amount of authenticity to the story. Sally’s book revealed the confusing relationship she had with Burt. After hearing it from her in her own words, you understood why Sally and Burt never reconciled. When I worked with Burt it was when he guest starred on a short lived TV series called Amazing Grace. We shot it in northern Idaho and it starred Patty Duke. ( Anna Pierce ). Burt was a gentleman and was so kind and entertained our hundreds of volunteer background players for one scene we shot in Spokane. At one point while readjusting camera positions, Burt standing in a darkened Hall with a single spotlight on him, a small arm and hand could be seen that wrapped around Burt’s leg. He looked down with the “Evangelist” Mic he had in his hand, and saw that a small toddler had walked up the ramp just feet away from her mother who sat front row to his performance. Burt stopped and engaged with the toddler. The whole room stopped too. The crew paused their work while Burt humbly charmed this little girl. Just the two of them in the spotlight. Mom eventually retrieved her daughter a couple minutes later. But the magic had happened. It’s small moments like these that I cherish from my career. Burt had his flaws. But he also had a huge vulnerable heart. And sometimes his ego and that big heart just didn’t support one another. But when he successfully suspended that ego, it was amazing what his heart could express. I feel for him. But also feel for Sally. She had been through quite a lot being a child of Hollywood. I’ve now worked with her on three different projects. And you won’t find a more professional lady. I never met Ms shore. I wish I had. Keep up the good videos. And check out Sally’s audio book. I also recommend Matthew McConaghys Greenlight audio book, Val Kilmer audio Book, Dick Van Dykes Keep Moving, and for a behind the scenes appreciation from another man I’ve worked with, James Burrows audiobook. All the best.
It's an amazing thing to have a relationship like theirs. To come so close to checking off all the boxes on that magic combination between two people can't be ignored. I keep coming back to that phrase, "Everything in life is timing." You may meet the right person, but at the wrong time in life. It's very bitter sweet.
She was a besutifully, classy and talented lady. And she always had feelings for him and didn't trash talk him. As have others that Burt dated. Good video. 👍
I heard somewhere that Burt had talked to Dinah about a week before she died; indeed, she did not tell him that she was ill. Burt later said in an interview that it had been a lousy year for him: his marriage falling apart, getting mugged (though he got to beat the (you know what) out of the guy, and losing Dinah (whom he reportedly called the love of his life).
@@judybritt6288 Yes, he did! Maybe he had two loves. I was reading an article published a few years before Burt passed away saying that he regretted letting Sally Field go and calling her "the love of his life" or "the one that got away;" something of that nature.
@@jwavadaBurt may have regretted "letting Sally go", but you can't make someone stay with you who doesn't want to stay. I saw an interview in which Sally was talking about Burt & their relationship. This interview was after he had passed. Obviously they weren't on the same page about how they each viewed their relationship. She said that she left him, and she'd had no intention of ever getting back together with him. She seemed surprised that Burt had said that about her (that she was "the love of his life"). She clearly did not reciprocate his feelings. Sally compared her relationship with Burt as being similar to the relationship she had with her (step) dad, which she characterized as controlling & abusive. She didn't say that Burt was abusive to her as her step-dad was, but that Burt was definitely controlling. She indicated that, as an adult, she had a problem with standing up for herself, and that was why she stayed with Burt as long as she did. Sally did not really go for the jugular in her criticism of Burt, but her comments certainly weren't flattering.
I was friends with Janet cantor gari til she died a few years ago. She said that her father Eddie cantor discovered Dinah shore and had her on his show all the time. She became like one of the family at the cantor house and was there all the time. Janet said she was the nicest person she knew and when Eddies daughter Margie died at a young age Dinah was there everyday to comfort them and help them out.
My mom used to love Dinah’s show, but she was never my cup of tea. I’m glad they found each other, short lived as it was. Everyone deserves a great love story.
Her show was classy and very unique. She was a great cook. He said Dinah had the body of a 25 year old. Here’s to their splendid romance. I’m glad they remained friends.
Thank you Dave, for making this video. I really enjoyed it. I wanted to know more about Dinah shore and Burt Reynolds relationship, and it was quite an inspiring video. They seem to have such a heartwarming relationship. It's sad it ended that way , and also Dinah Shore death. To add to your video , 1981, there is a heartwarming video of Burt inviting Dinah to sing for him and she's sang " the glory of Love". That was such a touching moment, in the relationship.
Well told 🥲. It’s true their age difference was clear, but probably not an obstacle. When I saw him on the Dinah Shore Show the chemistry and sparks 💕 were obvious and enjoyable. But as you mentioned his career was truly on fire and it undoubtedly affected his personal decisions. Dinah had such a great voice and character.
I myself had a 55+ yr crush on Burt. I can see why Dinah had such long lasting feelings for him. I was always told it was Dinah who forced the breakup because she loved him enough to let him go, as he was younger. Either way they both lost out, darn shame. 😞
Great feedback. And...you're right, it was AI enhanced/upscaled. That said, the original image was so low res that I was worried people would be turned off by it.
Yep. Reynolds first appeared on Gunsmoke as Quint Asper in season 8 episode 3, “Quint Asper Comes Home.” The 1962 episode follows the half-Native American character, who vows to take vengeance against all white men after a pair of them kill his father and threaten his mother.
Burt must have been confused, because just a short time before he died he made the same statement about Sally Feild, and Sally via the media replied to that comment disparagingly. I Think Burt thought he was God's give to woman kind and broke many hearts!
Yep. But said it about Sally as well. The difference is that Sally never felt the same way about Burt. Dinah...on the other hand, loved Burt so darn much.
The Spouse Lonnie Andersons daughter was my Anatomy Teacher at Lake Tahoe Community college of all things. I spoke to her on the phone a few times (to get missed Assignment info., etc..), not knowing at the time who she was related to. My claim to fame.

Sally and Burt's first wife, whose name I can't remember but she was on Laugh In and a failed sit com called Love on the Roof with Peter Duel (not a bad show. There's a handful of episodes here on YT), would both probably disagree so who knows where the truth lays or lies.
I always thought back from the time, that if these 2 had never been stars/celebrities and had just meet each other in the ‘real’ world. They would both have married and spent their lives together only later did we find out one of the main reasons, that we are told, is that he had been desperate to have his own children which Dinah could never have…
Going through a divorce with my spouse thats 14 years younger than me, this story is hitting me in certain places. After 22 years of being with her I've come to realize that a lot our underlying problems stems from the age gap. Even if all could be worked out, someone will remain alone for a long time when the older one passes first. Really sad stuff, just gonna stop writing now.

Yeah, Burt had a BIG flaw. Beating up his women. Ask Loni Anderson and and Judy Carne...if you could.

She had a good personality.
Thanks Dave for letting us remember; God bless you.
Very welcome
I always will love Dinah. A class above everyone else.
Very true!
I ran into Dinah Shore several times at my favorite restaurant, and she was always the epitome of Southern grace and charm. A true star.
My mom was a huge fan of Dinah Shore. Dinah was a class act.
