I was 17 in 1978. I can state, without reservation, that Johnny Carson was the best Tonight Show host of all time. His demeanor, magnetism, comedic style and personality outshines any late show host today by leaps and bounds. I've tried watching Fallon, Kimmel, Colbert, Corden, etc...just no comparison to the late, great Carson.
Me too. Class of '78? I remember Johnny in the 60s too. This also makes me miss George Carlin, I wonder what he would have to say about all the weird things going on nowadays? We need his balancing honesty again.
I would say that the person considered to be the best of late is Conan, though he no longer does his show. Another great one was Craig Ferguson because his show was not cookie cutter. He went to the tune of his own drummer and was clever and funny. Fallon, Kimmel, Colbert and Corden are not really very good. Fallon does have musical talent. 2/28/24, 9:37 p.m.
yeah absolutely I’ve been married for 32years I was 22 and he was 26. he got cancer in 2020 I was totally lost without him. He took a major hit the treatment was horrible for him. I could not do nothing to change any thing so I felt helpless I miss Him everyday.. seeing this makes me miss him even more I come to this page all the time just to have that nostalgia
Burt was a great actor and a genuine person. I saw Hooper as a young teen and liked it so much I went back and saw it again. I miss celebrities like Burt and Johnny.
Johnny is the man, always has been!!! He was the best late show host ever!!!! Nobody comes close to him!!! Nobody!!! I still watch.him every night!!! A total pleasure!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤.....
It’s awesome to sit back and watch these shows of Carson and see all the great stars in their prime. Reynolds was the consecutive box office draw during those years and Johnny was the all time greatest talk show host.
I wouldn't go that far. He was witty and hilarious in his own right as a performer, but not in real life. Many comedians are like that: Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, etc. @@gilson1982
I remember seeing this when it originally aired. I was laughing so hard I woke my wife up. she started laughing right along when she realized what she was seeing which Honestly has been a really good source of happiness for me ever since I lost my wife so many years ago i was married for 42years I was 24 and she was 20. She got cancer in 2020 I was totally lost without her. She took a major hit the treatment was horrible for her. I could do nothing to change any thing so I felt helpless I miss her everyday. Mothers are the glue that holds everyone together.. it broke me to pieces so seeing comments like this makes me smile.
I can't believe two legends talked about academy awards for stunt performers. It is still a relative conversation 45 years later. Also last bit inspired Sally Field's whipped cream bit with Johnny.🤣
Burt was from my area here in Palm Beach County and was well loved by many. Except my father in law who said Burt would get all the girls when he was young and came back to Riviera Beach. Around the time of this piece, Burt called the local sheriff's office where my Dad worked reporting dopers air dropping drugs on his ranch. My dad was an undercover agent and he and his partner struck up a friendship with Burt and provided security on several of his projects in the area. Burt liked cops since his Dad was a hard nosed southern cop himself. I was expecting Burt to be laid to rest in Florida, but when I was in LA last summer I paid my respects at his grave site and thanked him for a lifetime of great entertainment. RIP Burt Reynolds and the Mr Carson. Both the best at what they did.
You could always expect something unexpected when Burt was on Carson. Ed, Johnny & Reynolds are all gone now - God bless em for all the years of great entertainment they brought to us.
In a world of lunacy, that in which reality and common sense no longer exist. I miss it more and more everyday in a time and Era where it still mostly exist.
4:50 Burt's descibing "Win, Lose, or Draw" It was inspired by Fred Astaire, who was attending one of Burt's parties and was too "shy," as he told Burt, to play charades. 10 years later, he and Bert Convey would bring his new approach to charades to television. Oh, Pictionary was first published in 1985.
"Of course he remembers it... He just finished it!" Oof. This sounds like one of the nights Carson had a hard time hiding his annoyance with Ed. There's palpable irritation in his voice.
the guy was still a millionaire when he died...at least 3million. Maybe in Hollywood that's considered "broke"???? He let his Florida house go into foreclosure but got an agreement to still rent it from the new owner. The dude was pushing 80 yrs old and still owned 4 other high-end properties when he died.
The charisma coming off Burt Reynolds in the 1970s is still palpable, just from an old tv show. As far as lookalikes, there was actually a Burt lookalike in porn. These guys partied so well and hard, I just wish I could've seen it.
Burt was a really interesting figure. It seems within Hollywood people either really liked him, or couldn't stand his guts. I think he could definitely have an ego and a temper, but this clip really shows the lighthearted funny side to him.
Burt and Johnny were always able to laugh at themselves.

I agree 100% Now it is a right wing political bash. Johhny was to classy to bash people's political views.
And Johnny knew how to listen and let the guest shine.
Worse, all those you mention with the exception of maybe one, became political activist clowns.
Three legends that I hope are still together laughing and entertaining in Heaven
Good comment , I always assume now that all relevant people to me are up there waiting
Hooper was my favorite movie as a kid … I was 12 , perfect age
I'm sure they are.
@@lawncuttingplusdeltaThat’s a very unrealistic and weird assumption.
@@vika0194 what ?
In 1978 Johnny was at the top of his game,...so was Burt.👍👍💎💎
Great episode.
😊

I Love Burt Reynolds. He was always so entertaining. Love his laugh.
They both were very cool walking out. When you got it, you got it.
Johnny was and always be the King
So true
RIP Mr Carson and one of the best blockbuster movie stars, Burt Reynolds!!
Burt was a great actor and a genuine person. I saw Hooper as a young teen and liked it so much I went back and saw it again. I miss celebrities like Burt and Johnny.
I always loved it when Johnny had Burt on his show. Burt was so fun! Those guys were the best together.
RIP to both of them.
We miss these men very much...RIP
Man I wish we still had this quality of talk show today 😭 I was just 2 years old when this aired 👶 lol 😂
Burt always seemed so genuine. Real movie star. Not like the clowns we have today
Look how triggered you are Karen
Like you.
True, Nothing but junk today
They all had doubles and he straight lied.
I’m 65, there are definitely a lot of talent out there these days too.
Johnny is the man, always has been!!! He was the best late show host ever!!!! Nobody comes close to him!!! Nobody!!! I still watch.him every night!!! A total pleasure!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤.....
GOOD, GOOD STUFF. MISS ALL OF THREE THEM. THE BEST.
I miss Burt , he was such an awesome person and actor...
Always loved Burt's laugh lol.
Burt's laugh alone puts him in the Hall of Fame.

Burt's laugh kills me every time 🤣

They loved to banter. If they were together at house parties, it would have been non stop laughing
Actually, Johnny was known to be very shy and quiet at parties.
@@angelthman1659- Yeah. No cue cards, ghost writers, or directors around.

Classy. 💯🎭
Imho one of the Two Bestest Hosts Ever; along with John Charles Daly. 🎨🎭
Miss you Johnny.
Burts laugh is awesome 😂
Two guys that enjoyed the heck out of each other. Too funny!

Wonderful written sentiment, and yes I agree too, one would think he would have been laid to rest in Fla but it didn’t happen.
Burt Reynolds was actually born in Lansing, Michigan and spent his first years there before moving to Florida.
Nothing like this today!
That’s what worries me, what or whom are the XYZ LMNOP’rs going to get any class from! Snoop Doggy ¿
he had the funniest laugh I ever heard.
Loved these two back then !! Miss them ❤❤❤❤❤❤‼‼‼
How much I would give to be able to hang out with those 2 in their prime.
4:44 This was the genesys of the game show Win Lose or Draw that Burt came up with his good friend Bert Convey which aired from 87-90
I noticed that too. Good catch
God those were the days❤
All looking good, Burt best Fill in Host for Johnny
i wasn't even born yet until 1984, Burt Reynolds was one of the greatest actors around
Still have a "Beer for Burt Day" on the anniversary of his passing😢
burt had one of the best personalities of all time.
One of Florida’s favorite sons😢
As a Gator I can say, he's my favorite FSU Seminole.
Geez I miss those guys.

Burt Reynolds is the man❤
Burt was the biggest star in the world at that time
1978 Hooper and Superman were a double bill at our theater two great movies so long Burt & Christopher.
Yes, he had it. Amazing well prepared, concentrated, quick witted and likeable. Johnny had it all.
One of the greatest Seminoles and was always proud to represent FSU.
Check out that jacket! Johnny was stylin back in the day. 😊
At 5 minutes you see the birth of the show Win Lose or Draw. For real.
Graham Norton took the show host title. Only talk show that busts me up since Johnny.
Great stuff
That was really good
We were all going to live forever.
Sooo miss them!!!😢
Florida State Florida State Florida State Whooo!!!
Hilarious 🤣
I really miss burt _ ed and johnny .
Burt Reynolds was always sooooo funny!
Hollywood dumped on Burt….the man was the number box office star for 5 years straight in the early to mid 70’s
Burt was his own worst enemy.
Burt came along way from being a blacksmith on Gunsmoke. 😂😂😂
Damn 70s style was clean AF
Wow Burt…you were something else…a super movie star.
I miss burt Reynolds
If you haven't seen it, "The End," with Dom Deluise, is hilarious!

Burt always seems to enjoy himself.
"Kvelling". Yiddish for bursting with pride.
Thanks. I had never heard the word before.
Burt KNEW he couldn't refuse that.
Burt was my idol.
He was one kool 😎 cat.
At the time there was no bigger star in Hollywood than Burt Reynolds. He stayed number 1 till 1982. From 1983 onwards it went downhill.
Burt should never have done those "Cannonball Run" films. Those "films" were awful and really expedited his downfall.
@@watchman1178 Not only these films. Also films like "Smokey and the Bandit 2" Best Friends, The Man who loved Women or Paternity were all flops.
The Talk Show Of My Childhood!! 🤔😊👊✊😆👍👌🍁
RIP Burt Reynolds - Ed McMahon and Johnny Carson 😒😔😒
They were not fake. Genuine
It was a pretty cool entrance…
I always like Burt Reynolds. He died broke and alone which is really sad.
