Not that it matters, but I was volunteering with the state spay/neuter program for low income pet owners. We had people all over the state that would allow us to stay at their house when we were in their towns. Cute house. I went in and looked at this wall of pictures. The owner wouldn't be there until the following day. A young friend was walking through the living room and I said to her, that's Gene Kelly. She said, yes, the house belongs to his granddaughter. It was really nice to see that glimpse of his family. His granddaughter was really a true gem.

@@rhiahlMT John Wayne, real name Marion Robert Morrison, purposely avoided the military during WW2 where men were most needed, yet had the audacity to lecture patriotism to WW2 veterans like John Huston who was one year older than JW and had 5 children, James Stewart one year younger than JW and had 4 chidren , Dalton Trumbo 2 years older than JW and had 3 children. But certainly John Wayne _fought heroically_ on Hollywood sets shooting blank bullets.

It would be one thing if it got the last name wrong, but it gets the whole name wrong. It's very confusing, because it then refers to old time actors like Gloria Swanson, who were more likely to have contact with Beery, not Berle. So the whole narrative goes off the rails.

Jane Fonda made a mistake in judgement. Caught up in the turbulent 60's and her own celebrity, she felt her fame could be leveraged to end the Vietnam war. She has been paying for this lapse in judgement for decades.
What's interesting is that, in the movie The Hanoi Hilton, she is portrayed (but not using Jane's name) by an actress (Gloria Carlin). It's a devastating portrayal of Jane that is pretty accurate. But the interesting part of this is that TBS cable network bought the rights to the film and showed it all the time (it was very popular). The really interesting part of this story is that TBS was owned by Ted Turner at the the time who was Jane Fonda's then husband. As I recall, he never edited the movie to remove the sequence. I bet she was not happy with him about this.

Quite true, Wayne was a 32-year-old, B-list actor when director John Ford (deliberately, and successfully, endeavoring to make a movie star of him) went to great lengths to cast him in 1939's "Stage Coach" (for which the studio wanted Gary Cooper). Wayne was not the only late-blooming screen icon. The incomparable Cary Grant, for example, appeared in thirty films (half of all the movies he would ever make) before adopting the persona that would make him a star.

Whoever put this video together didn't notice that, while the narrator was talking about actor Wallace Beery, clips of Milton Berle were still being shown. No picture of Beery was ever in the video. He was an old time actor who had a public persona as a really sweet guy, but personally was difficult to work with. In one movie, Treasure Island, he played Long John Silver, a pirate opposite a juvenile Jackie Cooper. It was reported that he was mean to cooper on set and a real jerk.
As to Milton Berle, I know what an asshole he was. On a telethon once, when violinist Florian Zabin (sp?) was playing a number called Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Berle went up to him while he was trying to perform and blew cigar smoke into his face. Berle was so self centered that he had no concept of how outrageous it was to treat another performer that way. He thought he was being funny.
