I'm 53. Sally will always be my girl. LoL. I loved her the first time I saw her when she was Gidget. The true girl next door but with all the talent in the world. She's 76 now and still cute and precious. I DO believe Burt was in love with her but two different worlds there...he always bought into his own hype and myth and...she never did. This is a great video.
I recall that shortly before Bert passed, that he said letting Sally go was the biggest regret of his life. It's because he'd never know and saw what might have been. His second stated regret was not taking his acting career more seriously. This was because he said he would only pick films that he thought would be fun, and turned down some great roles that he'd been offered. He said if he'd have taken those more 'serious' roles (I forget his terminology here), then people would have taken his acting more seriously.
Regret is like saying I wish since you already crossed that bridge and you must live with the choices you made in your life . Unless you want to pout and feel sorry about yourself let it go and look towards the future but most of all the present. 😮
The trouble with looking back on old relationships, it’s usually the good times that are remembered and not the bad. One tends to forget why the relationship ended which clouds the results of your decision making process. I can’t say who was the love of my life. In all honesty, the only one I truly loved that never once judged me nor hurt me until they died was my dog Barney. And I mean that . Being fair and considerate to humans I’ve encountered has only resulted with me being screwed over to some degree.
Maybe it was just a sexual relationship. Both toyed with the idea of marriage. Just no commitment. However, when years pass by, things become clearer. Regret seeps in. Seems Burt regrets Sally not in his life, but Sally regrets who he was ,but didn't know it. She thought he should be different. Hard to say. It's really none of our business. It's just life. Most of us have regrets. If you don't, you must be young without life experiences. Or maybe you have a charmed life.
I was going to say that I couldn't believe that someone as fabulous as Sally Field could turn so nasty towards a man who was clearly ailing and down on his luck and had never said a bad word about her, but then I realised the exact same thing happened to me. I mean the exact same scenario minus the millions of dollars.
He cheated on her numerous times when she was in love with him and she's more than hinted that he had a bad temper, if she had married him it wouldn't have lasted....it's only in hindsight did Burt realize he screwed it up having said that I can't stand Sally Field.
Sally, being a scorpio she has and had everything he needed, that no one could fill. She is a wonderful person who I feel will always live on and never be repeated.
I think the "there was always something going on around Burt" quote is the unspoken elephant in the room that Burt may have been bisexual and his seven or eight years living with Hal Needham understandably led to questions that it may have been more than a roommate situation. Certainly there were always questions inside the industry.
Sally field is my favorites actress. My favorite movie was the man that rasped and killed her daughter. Sally's acting was so real like no other actor. The second movie was Not with out my daughter. Again so real that I felt her pain in the movie. I enjoyed every movie she has been in. To me she is one of the greatest actor. She one has aged gracefully.
Who knows what happened behind closed doors, but it does come across as very classy that Burt would not talk bad about Fields. The fact that she trashed him so often, seemingly going out of her way to do so sometimes, looks immature
If he cheated on her frequently which, let’s face it, is entirely plausible, why shouldn’t she badmouth him? If she’d cheated on him, he’d be perfectly entitled to do the same.
I recall her saying that he would say hurtful things to her. Burt was abusive to his 1st wife Judy Carne and according to Loni Anderson he hit her too. I actually loved Burt. Loved his sense of humor, his laugh and he was a total hunk. But I believe he was abusive to his women.
Burt's like all locker room jocks, they be awkward in relationships hanging around soapy nut sacks in them varsity locker rooms and don't handle rejection well.
I agree. Of course, she always came across in movies as being perky, sweet, likeable but in those interview clips where she was tearing Burt down she came across as being bitter, nasty and very inconsiderate.
I've always wondered how women have dealt with a male companion whose behavior she found objectionable? I couldn't be female. Old Burt had to be very difficult for Sally to deal with.
I just saw the documentary 'I Am Burt Reynolds' yesterday, here on Sky Arts in the UK, and it was fascinating. I never knew much about him but assumed he was probably a bit chauvinistic, the kind of man who couldn't keep it in his pants, cheating on partners, etc. Admittedly, it may be that the documentary was a bit biased in perhaps showing him in a very positive light but it did also cover some of his flaws too, and nobody is perfect of course! I was actually a bit staggered at just how nice he seemed to have been. He apparently was extremely generous, giving his friends and family lots of gifts, donating money to good causes, giving his time to teach acting lessons to young people every week, even when he was ailing and could barely move due to backache, etc. When he fell in love with Loni Anderson he seems to have bent over backwards for her, showering her with gifts, giving her a 'princess' life that she could barely believe she was living, etc, and, just as in interviews mentioned in this video clip where he had only good things to say about Sally, he didn't ever seem to have had a bad word to say about her. He also seemed to be extremely vulnerable, and not as naturally confident, even cocky perhaps, as he appeared to be. He apparently got little love or affection from his parents when he was growing up and he craved that and felt insecure due to that aloof parenting. He felt he could never please them, I think particularly his dad who apparently never praised him for anything he achieved. When he and Loni adopted a baby she made sure to let him hold the baby first because she knew he wanted to have that bond that he'd never had with his own dad and he craved that. It's actually a really moving documentary and a real eye-opener for me. I'm very glad I saw it and learned so much about Burt, who was a good guy, very talented and who never fully got the recognition he deserved for his acting, which is sad.
I don't know what he saw in her. She seems a bitter, sour, nasty narcissist, revelling in victim Hood. I feel sorry for what Burt had to put up with. Yes, he wasn't perfect but he was always so gracious towards her and held no malice in his heart. What a man!
Exactly. For someone who always seemed to be so chirpy, perky and likeable she came across as being quite bitter and even nasty when she was speaking about Burt. I don't think he deserved that at all and it seems that he didn't say anything bad about her, only good things, as he did with Loni Anderson too. I think that Sally should be ashamed of herself for having torn him down so much in interviews.
She has....you don't have to look too hard to find them either. She said many kind, sweet things after his death. It's actually brought me to tears....
@@catyork6070e was a CAD. He believed in himself to the point of nausea. She however is really level headed and doesn't see fame the same way. She was loyal...he wasn't. I think she has been far kinder than necessary over the decades. You must not have lived through the 70s....if you had you would know he was a player like no other....totally full of himself. Sally has never bought into Hollywood glamor and myth...it's a job to her...she didn't buy into "God" status. It's sexist to defend his type of male machismo and how he actually treated women. He was cute...he was famous...he was a jerk emotionally.

It was likely not a good Ideal to be too personally off set. it's like saying kids' stars such as Ron Howard was closer to Andy vs his own /Dad, who I have no clue, or would ever spread rumor, once Ron was an Adult, it was fine to be good friends, until sadly Andy Pass away, So, my point is, why was it okey for Burt and Sally to be more then friends, vs Ron and Andy being good off set that is,
Not being rude, but one of the things missed about Sally Field was she had a smokin body, and a beautiful butt. She is and always will be to me, the sexiest. Lady of the 70s.
Seems Sally had her own ideas about things in general. She doesn't sound like she was very receptive about tying the knot with Burt. Burt was better off with Loni.
In regards to the AIDS situation. Sally was basically trying to put questions out there about his $exual orientation. The mid 80s, AIDS was associated with a certain Community. She was $avage for that.
Yes Burt was warm and took the high road. Now that Sally has published her book we know she suffered a lot, and likely took a lot of it out on Burt. Plus she’s been in many bad marriages that have made her angry and bitter.
What is mama one of the ones that I’m knocking. As a female or a male what is an actor Lucille Ball. So it shows are coming from European during World War II No yes it sure she can Oh my gosh did she or did you not
How could anyone not fall madly in love with Sally Fields
'FIELD' or do you mean 'BURT REYNOLD'!

This is incredibly well put together, combining the film clips and narration as you did. Very well done.
Thanks so much! Cheers! Gator
Agreed ❤ they did a fabulous job

So great that Sally found a man that would help her up and that she could easily scapegoat for her choices in life.
The trouble with looking back on old relationships, it’s usually the good times that are remembered and not the bad. Thanks for all your work, Big Burt Reynolds fan here. Love to see some stuff on Sharky's Machine, Heat and Malone.
Sharkey in progress… Will be in Chapter 6 due before the end of the year. Heat and Malone probably Chapter 7. Thanks for your support! Cheers! Gator 🐊
Sharkys Machine was his best to me.

Obviously Sally meant a lot to Burt. I honestly believe he was better off without her. These poignant slices of Burt's life are very cool.
Thanks for watchingMr. Knapp! You are the Best! Cheers! Gator
As I recall, he wouldn’t take her to the Academy Awards when she was nominated so she dumped him.
These comments lol. Wow, like y’all know everything lol
Burt was crazy to let her go.
Roger that!
He would have absolutely ruined her in every conceivable way

She seems heartless releasing a book with scathing words about him shortly before his death. Burt had more class .
If he cheated on her frequently which, let’s face it, is entirely plausible, why shouldn’t she badmouth him? If she’d cheated on him, he’d be perfectly entitled to do the same.

Pero el la dejó y el Karma solo hizo con el lo que debía hacer.
He loved the Jewish gals, didn't he?!
I agree. If only she was young enough to give him a kid. I’ve never cared about Sally.
Luv @Sally; Burt images only made good wallpaper.😎
I've loved him forever, don't blame her a bit. He was smokin hot!
Burt Reynolds seems to be a very sweet guy. -Sorry he wasted his time and love on a person who is so narcisistic and full of vitriol !

Good job Gator. I often thought that Sally had NO Class speaking of Burt at the end.
If four days feels like four years I suggest you run for the hills. Especially with a guy who loves himself more than life itself.
Gator how about doing something on Malone and Heat?
Coming soon! Cheers! Gator 🐊
I told you guys, I want everyone in their right minds to find out what really goes down.. Hollywood Eric
Hell has no fury as a woman scorned...he forgot..she never did...
She play multiple parts
She playing Min Park
So what happened to Dinah?
Their contract ended, I suppose.

Bad Sally.
For what, he is an adult she is an adult, many people have relationship like this just not celebrities so you can't get all involved in it.🙄
Burt was way too much into himself
He loved her ...she DIDN'T care for him
Burt knows he's wrong. Sally is not the love of his life! Dinah Shore is!
