      For me personally i felt as if they tried to mimic hunger games a bit, especially at the end of this movie and i didn´t like that. Some changes i understand form the book to movie adaptation, but they changed the premise completely and i wasn´t so sure/happy about that during the first watch. All in all it was a solid movie and continuation of awesome series :D

    I really liked how they picked up on Newt being the one to give Winston the gun. The fandom of TMR definitely headcanon Newt as a 'mother figure' of sorts plus in canon he was the second hand to Alby and in charge when Alby wasn't. He most likely felt responsible for every single person in the glade even when Thomas took a more prominent leadership role. He most likely knew Winston for years and understood that it was him who needed to give him the gun- that was his responsibility as much as it probably killed him inside.

      There’s no mention of Winston dying in the books though. I mean, Thomas wrenched that silver ball of his head and he became a bald disfigured mess, but it wasn’t clear if he was one of those killed by the lightening.

    In a weird way, this made Teresa's character more interesting. She's not the typical female character that always follows the male character's lead. She's going to be more than just a damsel in distress. Theresa is someone who has her own methods and morals and someone who genuinely feels she's doing the right thing. Hearing about people being infected is one thing but watching someone you love going through the same thing can traumatize someone. I just wish Teresa simply talked to her friends about it instead of just calling Ava and the others.

It’s damn near horrific, tbh, especially considering most of Immune & test subjects are teenagers or younger kids-even mere children-but it might just make you sit back a hot minute and think on how the human brain functions.

    • @thatfilmydesaikid

    At 46:37 It was said in the books and was vaguely shown in the movie that George was the first person to die in the maze. In the first movie there was a grave that Thomas stumbled upon in the woods while getting fertilizer and it belonged to George. I watched the movie before I read the books but when I rewatched after I had read them, I put it together.

    It is annoying that Thomas is always looking around instead of/while running, but he's also always coming up with smart plans, and you can't do that unless you take the time to analyze your situation. That's what I always thought about it. Yeah, it doesn't always work and sometimes he just has to book it even harder to compensate for the lost time, but sometimes it gives him more information to work with and devise clever solutions. :)

      I'm so confused why everyone hates her. The books CLEARLY state that Teresa didn't betray or toy with him, she was literally force to by WICKED. They said "do this or we kill Thomas" so what other option did she have? The author himself doesn't get the hate either 🤷🏻‍♀️ did you all not understand her situation when you read it?

    so based on the books (the last 2 are prequel books) we find out that Sonya (the blonde girl Kat McNamara plays from Eris's maze) is actually Newt's sister. They were separated for the Mazes and because their memories were wiped, they didn't know. But yes definitely very cinematic and has lots of ups and downs and edge of your seat moments

    What I dislike most is that Teresa is way nicer in this movie. She betrayed Thomas way more. So her and him can talk Telephaticly in the first book, so like when it suddenly gets turned off for him in the start of this book is really stress. But then he gets one message of her saying "something really bad is about to happen but you have to trust me" (also him and her are like actually a thing). And we have this scene where she and Aris (Aris can talk to Rachel Telephaticly, until they kill her) are trying to force Thomas into this weird room bc "wicked said so" and we find out she was only using Thomas and her and Aris were together (they kiss right in front of him) and she hits him in the head with a speare Repeatedly until he does what they said.... and anytime we see her again she's always like "I'm sorry.. but it was the only way.. and we should listen to them... wicked is good" AND NO. Like in the nicest way possible... I say I hate Teresa's guts. 😤 She toys with and is so Manipulative to Thomas and his feelings

      Yes, exactly everything you said. I was waiting for your comment 💜. It may be that Teresa has been traumatized by everything she saw and experienced, but that does not justify her betraying her family, because Thomas and the others were her family. Until now I don't understand how, being the erudite they say she was, she didn't realize that wicked was good, if all they did were cruel and inhumane acts, claiming that the end justifies the means and that they were only trying find the cure. And for those who read the books, they know that wicked was the one who started everything, the disease, the cranks and all that, so everything they did was not out of kindness but rather because of an attempt to clear their name and that's it. It may have been good intentions at first, but as they became more inhuman one realized that they only did things out of guilt, remorse, and to try to clear their consciences 😤

      I actually like the way they managed to make me understand her, her goals and motivations and fear and regrets, while still getting across that what she did wasn't good. In the book it was like the author was trying to do the same and get me to be touched by her relationship with Thomas and how special it was, but it just never quite worked since she was also way more dislikeable and I couldn't understand her reasoning at all or how Thomas could like her. The movies even made me tear up when, you know, Death Cure happened, which was awesome to me who was expecting to be cheering instead lol. Imo they improved her character in a way.

    22:22 the thing is, they were never safe. it was a false safety. eventually, with or without Thomas, they would've been put in danger. and without him, they would've had, like, zero information lol most of them would've died immediately. don't forget that everyone who stayed behind died, and only a few people in Thomas' group died. also without him, everyone in his group would've been hung up in that room and put on ice. everyone wants to blame the catalyst, but they forget that the events would've happened that way anyways - the catalyst just allows you to get ahead of it and plan - even if only for a few minutes, it's a helluva lot more than they would've ever had otherwise.

      Technically YES, lol. We don’t know if it was the same George that was Brenda’s brother but there was *A* George in Alby & Newt’s maze (not calling it Thomas’ maze coz Alby was technically the first and Newt was second in-command), and since we’re going by in-universe stuff, prob’ly should just assume that George was indeed her brother that she mentions.

      @_ Scriblr _ No he wasn't stung. George is the example for the gladers not to try and go down the box after its gone because at some point the thing kicks in and It slices you in half. That is one of the way the gladers tried to escape and sadly George is the one that went down to try. His grave is an example in the books. Also in the books the box regularly provides the serums to cure getting stung so no one really dies from them. They call it the changing because the memories the boys get change them completely.

It came out in the same year as Death Cure and Bumblebee (another film Dylan was part of as a voice actor). And also the first scene you see in Death Cure, Dylan actually ended up getting hurt doing that stunt, and the scene used in the film is the same shot that Dylan got hurt in while filming. hey ya'll just a few things i think are helpful whiel not being spoilers to better understand :)
    1. George (Brendas brother) was in fact one of the maze runners in the glade from the first movie. We never meet him but we see his name crossed out on the stone and a memorial for him in the woods before Thomas is attacked.
    2. Regarding the virus, it is in fact the same virus from the first movie. There are different stages of the virus as the body becomes more and more infected. Some people turn quicker than others. This is slightly different from the books. Fun fact, in the books both Jorge and Brenda are both infected cranks when the crew meets them however they are in the early stage and never completely turn.
    3. With the maze runners, some are immune and some aren't. You don't know which ones are immune and which aren't until the infection. The non-immune ones were put into the maze with the immune as a kind of scientific ''control'.
    4. Teresa was given back ALL of her memories at the beginning of the movie, hence why she looks betrayed when its revealed Thomas gave info to the rebellion because she was loyal.
    Hope this helped with some of the questions.

Though surprisingly watching the movie again I can actually see a few similarities, like the lightning with Minho, the tunnels with Thomas and Brenda (except that was quite different in the book), and I never imagined them as ‘zombies’ exactly. The Cranks are definitely way less scary in the book but still can scare ya for sure. Haha reading through the book I was like “Wes what did you do when directing this movie” because it’s so different.

    The second movie is the one the furthest it diviated from the books storyline. Is a complete different story haha
    It still has some aspects and the Vibe is the same, but in general the plot is the most different.
    The second book is my favourite from the saga, is soo good with so many intense moments. Is such and ecxiting story, is so well narrated...
    Some notes in comparison to the books though:
    1. The Crancks are not so much as zombies but normal people who slowley went mad due to the Virus atacking the brain. The first time I wtached the movies I really didn't like they made them stright up zombies. But is fine. Also the Virus Transmits through air, not from bites or scratches.
    2. In the books, Theresa's betrayel wasn't so much of her agreeing with WKCD and choosing them, but about her Betraying Thomas' HEART. The books betrayel is so heartbraking you can't help it but hate Theresa as much as Thomas. In the movies they made it esier to understand her perspective, in the books you can only forgive her in restrospective when you realized she wasn't that bad xD
    3. In the books the "Dessert Walk" was a literal trial. WKCD sended them to that desserted zone in some type of "Quest" in which they had to arrive to a specific place at a specific time to "Pass The Trial". And a lot of shit happens in between xd
    Also, they explained in the first movie they do all this extreme experiments to see how their brains work to try and figure out what makes them inmune, based on the fact the Virus atacks the brain. Putting someone in those conditions can activate the most ptimitive and instictive part of the brain. Because thtas what the cranck in the "Past Gone" are, no thought, just pure animalistic crazy behavior. So they try to compare and analize what makes them different to see if based on that they can find the reason and work around that to try and make a cure.
    So they would put them in the most extremly dangerous situations but also in the most peacefull ones, basically messing with their minds and emotions to recolect the most information they can to see how their brain works. Is extreme, but they thought of that as the Best and Fastest way to try and get the answers they are looking for.
    The emotional rollercoster they made Thomas go through in the second book has no comparison haha. We end up as mess up in the head as Thomas XD

    We learn a number of things during "The Scorch Trials." We learn that the immunes can treat the Flare, but they can't cure it. The whole idea behind the Trials is to create something like engrams in the brain which would alter the brain's chemistry and so the enzyme which is used as a treatment. The idea is that if the right combination of engrams is produced through the Trials, which are complex and terrifying puzzles to solve, a cure might be found. It's the trilogy's McGuffin, so you can't read too much into it, however. When Thomas and the Gladers arrive at Jansen's facility, none of the immunes is a cure. At Jansen's facility, phase two begins. Phase two consists of virtual Trials which explains some of the headgear on the immunes. At the same time, the enzyme is being extracted directly from their brains. Presumably this is for efficacy testing as well as use in treatment.
    You were certainly right about Theresa. In our hero's adventure-journey, Theresa clearly represents the monomyth's temptress who tries to derail Thomas. She doesn't tempt Thomas with sex, but with arguments both logical and emotional advocating WCKD's viewpoint. It's reasonable to suspect her from the very beginning. Unlike Thomas, she completely broke the Glade's paradigm. Her arrival in the Glade is untimely, she's female, and she heralds the end of the Glade's supply lifeline. Totally inauspicious. Kaya Scodelario does a good job of making her character seem suspect from the get-go. There always seems to be a mistrust-invoking aura about her. In the "Scorch Trials," she tells Thomas "Everything was fine until you ...." This implies she never approved of what he'd done. Thomas' drug-induced dream-vision at Marcus' party makes it clear Theresa wasn't part of Thomas' betrayal of WCKD. Thomas obviously acted alone. The longer Theresa is in contact with Thomas through the first two films, the further she seems to move away from him. This begs the question of why Theresa was sent to the Glade. In the first film, Thomas himself even asks her if she's sure she doesn't remember more of her past life. Does he have some subconscious doubt about her? There are interesting parallels between Theresa and Thomas. Both Theresa and Thomas are betrayers. Which one is evil depends on your answer to the films' theme: Does the end justify means? They both want a cure for the Flare. However, Theresa/WCKD are ruthless in pursuit of a cure, willing to sacrifice however many immunes it takes. Thomas, on the other hand, is completely altruistic. He will sacrifice himself but not others.
    One wonders if after Thomas stung himself in the first film, he doesn't remember more than he lets on. He acts like he does. He seems to know why he was put into the Glade. Earlier, he told Newt and the others he didn't recognize Theresa, but we know he did. Very uncharacteristic of Thomas to lie. Does he have subconscious suspicions about Theresa and not want to give voice to them? Or is he afraid admitting he knows Theresa will make the Gladers more suspicious of him? In the second film, the purpose behind Thomas' questioning by Jansen may be to ascertain whether Thomas can be rehabilitated and brought back into the WCKD fold. Thomas clearly was a valued asset to WCKD before his fall from grace. If he'd passed Jansen's test, he would have had his memory completely restored like Theresa apparently did. After Theresa's memory is restored, it's increasingly clear Theresa approves of WCKD and its means. She even begins subtly showing disgust or animosity towards Thomas. Her reaction as she looked at the handheld radio at Jorge's hold sealed the deal. She is going to betray Thomas. The only question was under what circumstances, although you might assume it'll happen when the maximal harm will be done.
    In "Scorch Trials" we discover why Thomas was put into the Glade. He'd betrayed WCKD to the Right Arm. Specifically, he informed the Right Arm about the locations of all WCKD's facilities. Presumably, Thomas was sentenced to the Glade in lieu of immediate death because he was an immune, and WCKD didn't want to "waste" his death. In other words, the prospective trauma his death might cause the other Gladers which might enhance the efficacy of their anti-Flare enzyme. His WCKD tag readout at Jorge's did say "To be killed." On the other hand, since Thomas was the best and brightest of the immunes, WCKD may have hoped he'd serve as a catalyst for the Gladers and bring the experiment to completion. That's certainly what happened. So, they may have intended to send him to the Glade all along, and he just made it easier for them. That said, it's clear from what both Jansen and Ava Paige say in the second film that they want Thomas back in WCKD. He clearly was important before the Glade, and his importance to WCKD may have increased afterwards because he did successfully solve the maze. What does Ava Paige say at the end of the first film: "Thomas continues to surprise and impress. He may be the key."
    There's an especially interesting scene near the end of "Scorch Trials." WCKD has seized control of the Right Arm base because of Theresa's treachery and is ready to evacuate the immunes and kill the Right Arm personnel. Thomas, who had escaped, surrenders himself. This is really an act of desperation. He has a bomb, and he's trying to make a bargain with WCKD. He suspects WCKD wants him. This is confirmed by Jansen who says: "Where's Thomas?" He might not like Thomas at this point, but he wants him alive. Thomas threatens to blow himself up unless WCKD releases the immunes, but WCKD rejects his offer. Here's where Thomas being selfless to a fault has hoisted him onto the horns of a dilemma. If he kills himself, he accomplishes nothing. Yeah, he escapes WCKD, but he doesn't save the others. Saving the others is his goal. He doesn't care about himself. When the others indicate they are willing to die, too, to escape WCKD, Thomas has a tough choice to make. Does he kill them all. Again, yes, they escape WCKD, but Thomas really wants them to live and live free from WCKD. If he relents, then they are all under WCKD control. He doesn't want that, either. There is the dilemma. The choice should be the one that's the closest to the actual objective. That must be life, of a sort, under WCKD. While there's life, there's hope. But that doesn't seem to be the direction Thomas is inclining towards. It would have been a mistake for Thomas to kill them all. Theresa and Ava Paige plead with Thomas to relent. Ava Paige even tells him "Everything can go back to the way it was." In other words, Thomas can have his memory back and rejoin WCKD. She meant it, too, because Ava Paige was actually a foster mother for Thomas. The brutal killing of Mary by Jansen coupled with this counteroffer from Ava Paige, which may have tempted him, may be what was pushing Thomas towards blowing them all up. Fortunately, Jorge rescues Thomas from this dilemma.
    The tragic irony is that WCKD should have accepted Thomas' offer and let the other immunes go free.
    "Scorch Trials" is a very good sequel to "Maze Runner."

    I remember being livid walking out of the movie theater when this film first came out. They almost completely changed the plot and most of my favorite parts weren't even present. I actually felt that way with the first movie too, since they changed Alby's entire character and had him be the first Glader who stayed there for a month BY HIMSELF.
    HOWEVER, I will say that now that I've watched these movies multiple times over the years, I love how everything played out much more! Don't get me wrong, I still wish they would have included the Cranks in an interesting way like in the book (they were smart as well as terrifying), and the exciting trial the character went on through the desert (Janson tells the boy's that none of them are immune and that they'll have to get through the scorch to a particular place at a particular time to get the cure, which are all lies, of course).
    I think the second book is where most readers had problems because there's just too much going on and it's, personally, a bit boring. I think the movies are a bit more fun and the books are great if you want to learn more about the lore and characters! These movies helped to connect the story in an interesting way and I'm glad I can appreciate that now that I'm older.

    The book was very different but I read the books just before the 1st film came out so I didn't have that much attachment. I kinda always just viewed the books and films as separate entities... like a multiversal version that differs 🤣 love the film though, so entertaining and gripping! The cranks in the shopping centre NO THANK YOU 🤢

    Brenda’s brother was in the maze. On the wall where they wrote the names in the first movie, his name was on the wall but it was crossed out, he died before Thomas got there.

    This one strayed from the books because in the book The Scorch Trials was an actual trial, like the maze, whereas in the movie it was an escape. I get why they changed it because the majority of the second book was there 100 mile walk through the scorch, which might not have been as entertaining on screen, but I loved it in the book, it was also very gory in the book, stuff they couldn’t put in the movie and keep the rating at PG-13.

    Guys, you don't need a ton of medical equipment to cut off a leg. You just need something to tie it off to stop blood loss, something to cut it off with, and something to cauterize the stump with. Piece of cake!

    One thing that always bothers me about the movie and now I can’t unsee it is how the group randomly loses a member during on of the chase scenes. No on screen death or even mention and it kinda makes the whole situation scarier with the fact that one kid died off screen and our characters don’t even realize it.

    • @propriov
      @propriov 7 місяців тому

      That kid's death is in the deleted scenes. But he was never introduced as a character, we never heard his voice and barely see his figure in the movie so it's not really a big deal c'mon.
      his death can be compared to one of the first glader's death during the last escape through the maze

    • @ajandrianjafymusic
      @ajandrianjafymusic Рік тому +2

      Honestly the people that forgive her are normally the ones who’ve only seen the movies and not read the books. Like her betrayal in the movies was meh compared to how deeply it actually ran In the books

    • @petrastein2531
      @petrastein2531 Рік тому +2

      @@ajandrianjafymusic How? She didn't betray anyone in the books. She had to play along because WICKED was threatening her with killing Thomas. Only Thomas never got over it. Really, how is it a betrayal?

    • @petrastein2531
      @petrastein2531 Рік тому +1

      I would done the same if I were her. WICKED city looks nice and clean and she gets to have a fairly normal job and living. Though I would NEVER called them to get me so recklesly. I would wait for Right Arm to abandon that place in the mountains as they planned and THEN I would called them to pick me up. That part, that is a true betrayal on her part. She could've easily act based on her morals and not betray her friends. Especially after all of what they've been together.

    • @Naahi95
      @Naahi95 10 місяців тому +1

      @@petrastein2531 RIGHT? I'm so confused why everyone hates her. I read the books and they CLEARLY state that she didn't betray or toy with him, she was literally force to by WICKED. The author doesn't get the hate either 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess people are stupid and can't understand simple texts lmao

    I don't know how they've managed to not cast Tom Cruise as the mastermind behind it all as he's the greatest runner of our generation and the movie is about mostly running. Maybe they could've added a scene where Cruise was teaching Thomas how to run faster and proper.
