YA book alone, Definitely The Maze Runner. There have been a lot of YA to Film adaptions, but most of them have failed to entertain me the same way the books have. But The Maze Runner delivers. While not as "by the books" as other book adaptations, Its non stop action, its character development/morals/relationships, cast, and over all premise, seem to win me over every time.
If we’re talking any book to film adaptations, then The Chronicles of Narnia for sure. Unfortunately I watched the movies before I knew the books existed, but I love the movies and the books equally. Now if we’re talking just YA novels I really liked Hunger Games and I still haven’t read the books yet, but I actually gotta go with The Maze Runner. Yes book 2 compared to the movie is almost completely different but I absolutely love both the books and the films.
Something that breaks my heart is how Sonya and Newt are brother and sister. WCKD took away their memories, so she most likely will never know. How many other lost family members are right there at the end, with no clue.
Not in the book, but I noticed that in Scorch, Brenda says her brother’s name was George, and in the Maze runner, George’s name was scratched out on the wall 🫤
This movie was delayed for over a year after Dylan O'Brien got into an ATV accident and production had to be shut down for his recovery. Luckily, he pulled through and the movie resumed filming.
Spoilers for the book: This franchise really struggles with all the changes they made from the books. The books have an almost completely different plot. The first movie follows the books more but it still took a lot of liberties. They cut out a lot of backstory for Newt as well that really makes his character better. They also make Thomas much more of a leader than he is. Thomas doesn't lead the group, its actually Minho and Newt that lead the group. Of course, Thomas is very important but they play up his role a lot more in the movies. Also Minho never gets kidnapped. Newt also doesn't hide his infection from the others because Wicked just tells him and everyone else that he is infected. His death is so heartbreaking in the books because it is really drawn out. Newt also leaves the group willingly to go with the other infected so he doesn't infect anyone in the city. Brenda and Jorge are immune in the books as well. Thomas is also not the cure. There isn't a cure. I feel like the movies are fun but they do change a lot. Newt's Backstory: Newt was originally a runner but he started to think that there was no way out of the maze. So, he goes in to the maze one day and climbs one of the walls and jumps off. Alby finds him (In a deleted scene they say it was Minho but it is Alby in the books). Obviously, Newt survives the fall but his leg is permanently damaged. He walks with a limp. The limp is shown a few times in deleted scenes but it much more prominent in the book. Thomas watches that happen to Newt which is what prompts him to tell Wicked to send him into the Maze. Thomas forgets all of that when they take his memories. Newt is also the older brother of one of the girls (Sonya) from the other maze. She is the one with the blond hair that's shown at the end. Newt does actually remember her towards the end because the flare sort of gives him his memories back. Sorry that was a lot but I felt like it was necessary information.
Thank you so much for this! Newt was my absolute fav and i've literally just finished the 3rd movie so that i could watch this video and i am a complete mess. I don't know if i wanna read the books if his death is even worse in them, haha! My little heart couldn't take it.
God yes, these movies were so disappointing and the only one that came close to the book was the first one. It literally was a completely different story with all the character names only really being considered. And don’t tell me “oh it’s hard to get everything from the books because we only have so much time” oh really but you had time to make a completely separate first second and third act? Please. Sorry for rant just needed a vent as a die hard fan
This is why I will always love books more than films, but backstory always gets edited down or cut altogether. But I like to see the film’s creativity in how they’re going to do it.
16:40 I think Teresa's thought process was that if she finds a cure, she will have saved more people than she will have hurt - easier to rationalize the harm caused.
newt’s letter was actually handwritten by thomas himself and that he read it out loud next to dylan, so dylan genuinely cried in that safe haven scene 😢
Newt's death was mostly considered one of the worst in the fandom. Even though book readers watching knew it was coming seeing it put it into a whole new perspective. Him, Thomas and Minho were the ultimate trio and you can tell by that missing piece when Minho and Thomas hug at the end. They all loved each other so much.
What's nice about Maze runner is that the actors are all friends after. The interviews and the bloopers show how funny and close they are. Almost like family
@@AnkitSingh-vm1gn they were one of the exceptions in the industry actually. They still see and text eachother on whatsapp after 9 years! ;) Plus you can tell the bond between them was a genuine one, that's also part of the trilogy's success and what made them a very realistic and comfortable group to watch on screen
Gally’s return is the most shocking part to me. He started as a character I loved to hate and was a complete douche but then he grew up, matured, and ended up leading everyone to victory
A sad thing about newt but also something that explains why he’s so close to Minho and is so intent on saving him is that in the books, it’s revealed that newt tried to commit s*icide and Minho saved him
3:53 this scene was actually a real stunt made by Dylan O'Brien, he was then pulled under a vehicle and badly injured. The scene was still used, although producers wanted to cut it out, but Dylan said it should stay in, so that his accident wasn't "in vain". He needed 1 year to recover, with many facial reconstructive surgeries.
@@Notjamm you can literally search it up yourself, if you don't believe me (which is fine), he himself said it in interviews years after the accident 😶🌫️
Well, I know it's something crazy that Thomas still has this affection for Teresa, but it is very important to remember that they have a relationship before the maze (it was a deep meaning between them) and in the book, they shared something like Telepathy, so they are always connected. That's the reason behind the romantic scenes and the goodbye in the end :(
I kinda wished they made Teresa to be Thomas' sister, instead of the love interest (i know that's not how it is in the book and changing it would be risky) but i just think if they're siblings (or twins) the whole betrayal and redemption would be more complex and impactful
@@mydyth right?? i always wished they were siblings because then the whole lab-partner thing would seem sweeter and the betrayal-redemption thing could be understood more. of course teresa isn't going to be taken as seriously as the love interest because they couldn't develop their relationship in the movies well.
Watching reactors struggle with Teresa's turn and then *Gally* is a big joy, cause everyone that has watched these movies knows exactly what you're feeling^.^
So, a few fun facts as a long-time fandom member. Sonya (the blonde girl from the second movie) is actually Newt's sister. As their memories have been wiped before the trials, they don't remember each other. WCKD initially didn't want to take Newt to their compound. But they didn't really have a choice so they used him as a comparison. In the books, Thomas, Theresa, and Aris actually had mind telepathy and could communicate with each other through
The blood alone wouldn't have been enough. The serum looked like it worked for a bit for the little girl but the missing part was Thomas's blood. They needed the other ingredients as well as the blood. I thought it was funny how Teresa was the only one who noticed. Every other character didn't.
Also another fun fact, the author named the gladers after famous historical figures. Thomas (Thomas Edison), Theresa (mother Theresa), Newt (Isaac Newton), Aris (Aristoteles), Gally (Galileo Galilei), Zart (Mozart), Alby (Albert Einstein), Harriet (Harriet Thurman). There were two guys given names that the gladers changed. WCKD named Frypan Siggy (Sigmund Freud) en they gave Chuck the name Charles (Charles Darwin). The only one not named after a historical figure is Minho. He is named after the author's best friend (Also, sorry if I misspelled any of the names)
Thomas already had a relationship with Tressa before the maze that we never got to see in depth so this is why he’s drawn to her later on and this why it didn’t feel like it was that meaningful essentially!
There are 5 Maze Runner books, one special about Newt and another recently released (in total 7). It presents events 73 years after the Death Cure. The films are based on the first three books with identical titles. The rest are not screened. The first film has a lot in common with the books, but the second and third parts went their own way and if you read the book, the only things that will be similar to the films are the characters and some of the events. However, the books are no less interesting than the films, so if you liked the films, I advise you to read the books!
@@idkevaa Not really, The Fever Code talks about Thomas and the other Gladers before being sent to the maze. You will find some thing from The Kill Order, but it can be said that these are almost unrelated books. The Kill Order is about what happened to the world
Nobu asked how "it" (the train cars) braked so fast: train cars are designed to automatically brake if they become disconnected from the train. It's a thing!
@@JonInCanada1 oh so you don't get to see tris sacrifice herself to save everyone else, provided that they didn't change it, i know they made some changes to Divergent and Insurgent and the insurgent changes caused me to not want to watch the rest, as i didn't trust them to keep true to the ending.
Death Cure is by far my favorite. Compared to the books, i honestly love it. The last 2 books are prequels of the series, so Death Cure isn't necessarily a combination. I actually put off watching death cure for about a year because i found out newt dies, and i couldn't handle it 😂
While filming this movie, Dylan O'Brien fell off one of the moving vehicles and got run over by another one. His injuries were very serious. They had to stop filming for over a year so he could physically and mentally recover. He has admitted that he hasn't mentally fully recovered which led to the belief that he suffers from PTSD
Thomas tells the Keepers that he and Teresa were manipulated into designing the Maze because they share the gift of telepathy. He convinces the others that he and Teresa are now in as much danger as them, but he knows the way out.
I hope you guys would check out the deleted scene where Newt told Thomas they have to save Minho at any chances. The scene was too heavy so they exclude it from the movie and shorten it. From that you guys gonna realised how important Minho is to Newt.
Thomas and Teresa had a relationship before, and continued to have feelings for eachother despite the lack of memory. The movie didn't show that, which is why some of the viewers couldn't understand their bond
In any experiment, you have a control group (non-immunes) and a treatment group (immunes). It was obvious from the moment we learned the maze was an experiment/test, that some of the Gladers were not immune. One theory about Newt infection was that he was injected with Flare at Jansen's facility. It's the same arm.
i personally love this series more than the hunger games because i for some reason were never interested in the hunger games movies but the maze runner movies were just perfect entertainment for me idk why and am a little disappointed they aren’t as loved as they deserve . the environments , action , lighting, acting and the monsters all looked amazing nothing really looked horrible. The only problem i had for how often thomas looks behind him lol just makes me so intense and how aris was barely a character in the third film.
To clarify, the books were always a trilogy, but the other two books are prequels. Teresa in the books was better but not much better from what I can remember
I'm so confused why everyone hates her. The books CLEARLY state that she didn't betray or toy with him, she was literally force to by WICKED. When they captured her they said "either you do this to Thomas or we kill him" so she didn't have much of a choice. The author himself doesn't get the hate either 🤷🏻♀️
@@ranniwolves She was nvr gonna sacrifice anyone (in the movies) she made a deal with Ava, they would all get trialed and tested if the results are negative they can go, if they're positive they will draw blood from the positive kid and make a cure. If everything is negative then humanity's doom. That was Teresa's deal to Ava. Janson was the one doing the dirty work, since he wanted to kill them behind Ava's and Teresa's back bc he knew that that wasn't the deal. That's why Teresa was suprised that MIhno was at the medical wing.
Can you also make a reaction for the deleted scenes of this movie. There is a one with an amazing scene of Newt explaining in the rooftop the heartbreaking exprience he had with Minho in the maze. It would really add a lot to the movie and I'm so mad because they could've keep that scene instead of 30 minutes of Teresa being useless in the rooftop at the end.
Newts note in the book is just "kill me. If you've ever been my friend, kill me." And his death is way worse. For example: "Kill me you shuck coward. Prove you can do the right thing. Put me out of my misery. " The words horrified Thomas, "Newt, maybe we can--" "Just shut up! Shut up! I trusted you! Now do it!" "I can't!" "Do it!" "I can't!" How could Newt ask him to do something like this? How could he possibly kill one of his best friends? "Kill me or I'll kill you. Kill me! Do it!" "Newt..." "Do it before I become one of them!" "I..." "KILL ME!" And then Newt's eyes cleared, as if he gained one last trembling gasp of sanity, and his voice softened. "Please, Tommy, Please." With his heart falling into a black abyss, Thomas pulled the trigger. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
You all can knock that skyscraper jump to pool all you want. That was an epic shot. The way the camera followed them out the window and down into the pool, making you feel like you were jumping with them, so good! And the ending WAS necessary for the visuals and that beautiful score, if ONLY for that, it was necessary! (Also Thomas wouldn't be Thomas if he didn't go back and try to save everybody, he did the SAME thing in the books!) I swear this movie was such a treat for the film school nerds. The books were great but love these movies. The cinematography alone was worth it. Also you all just completely missed the big picture morality questions of the movie. Like we just went through a pandemic, were losing 10s of 1000s of people a day across the world at one point and are well on our way to 7 mil deaths worldwide but you can't fathom why Teresa would make the decisions she made? We all knew she was going to die in the end. Nobody's sharing a bunk with her in the safe haven. WCKD was wrong but they were wrong because their extreme experimentation broke every human rights law in the book. They were scientists doing the job the world expected them to do, find a cure to save everyone. I feel like this was a missed opportunity to have a semi-serious little discussion and some of you seemed to want to talk about the bigger 'issues' but the rest were just busy talking about how much they hated Teresa.
Very true. These films are incredible productions. I feel they'll be regarded as classics someday. The multi-layered story, the acting, the direction, the cinematography, the score .... What is even more amazing is that they were done "on-the-cheap." You'd never know it! $157 million for all three films when the average "big picture" film is at least $100 million. And from a first-time director, as well. They're an incredible accomplishment, really. Everyone involved with them should feel immensely proud. While the books are YA, the films are very adult. Many profound themes are explored. A central theme being "does the end justify the means?" It's a principle often associated with totalitarianism, and the phrase has its origin with Machiavelli, although the idea is much older. The principle is part and parcel of consequentialism, a teleological theory that says whether an action is morally good or bad depends on its outcomes. The more good outcomes outnumber the bad, the better/more moral the action. In that view, it's sort of a moral calculus. Under this rubric if WCKD finds a cure, then WCKD is very good, indeed. Therea/WCKD adhere to this end-means principle rigidly. This principle is, unfortunately, a too common belief today. It allows people to believe their actions are justified regardless of how they go about achieving the desired end result. It allows for all sorts of aberrant behaviors. A rather trivial example of this is the following scenario: My end is to get a certain work promotion. To get it, I work to sabotage all the other candidates. Hopefully, we agree that's not a nice way to behave. This is essentially the viewpoint of WCKD and Theresa, although they are dealing with an end of much greater significance. Accordingly, WCKD and Theresa are totally ruthless in their pursuit of a cure. Thomas, on the other hand, believes that the means are just as important, or, maybe, even more important, than the end. His viewpoint is if the means are morally objectionable in themselves, then this outweighs any potential benefit from the end. In other words, the "how" is at least as important as the "why." Thomas, just like WCKD, wants to find a cure to the Flare, he's only opposed to how WCKD does it. Thomas is willing to sacrifice himself to obtain a cure and save humanity. He's not willing, however, to sacrifice the unwilling. Theresa's/WCKD's morality is relativistic and man-centric, whereas Thomas' morality is based on absolute principles and God-centric. Even so, the trilogy challenges both WCKD's and Thomas' perspective, and makes us wonder which one is "right." I'm reminded of Pilate when he said: "What is truth?" We have man's truth, and we have God's Truth. Theresa was so wedded to WCKD that she couldn't live in a world without it. That's why she chose to die with WCKD as it were. Also, I think she felt that by saving Thomas, she and WCKD had accomplished their objective. Job done, WCKD is good! Likewise, Thomas, by not remaining in the Safe Haven, is determined to finish WCKD's objective, even if it means his death. Thomas represents a more enlightened WCKD.
Fun fact, I read the death cure book before the movie came out and I watched the movie up til just before newts death, turned it off and to this day have not finished it. I watched this when it came out, it’s been 5 years.
I cried more than I’ve ever cried before in my life when Newt died. He’s the best character ever and it crushed me so much. And than the letter at the end of the movie is SO sad! I learned to play the song on the piano than plays at the end and I cried just thinking about Newt! 😭
So the final two books of the five are technically prequels (The Kill Order and The Fever Code), not actually sequels. Jsyk, these three movies are of the original three books.
What the actual hell. This was so enjoyable! I love this quartet so much, something about your chemistry just feels so uplifting and genuine. Keep going boys and girls, definitely supporting you on patreon to watch the full length content
Nice reaction guys To be honest I'm surprised you guys didn't enjoy this one that much. Yes they deviate from the books a bit and I'm the first one to be upset by that sort of thing but these three movies including this last one for me are very well made. Jumping out of a window, explosions, yes there is a lot of crazy stuff going on but if you look at the story, the attention to detail, the overall quality of the film it works very well. Better than it has any right to. I mean it's not a documentary, even the maze itself was unbelievable so you do have to suspend belief. I'm not saying these are academy award level movies but they set out to do something and they do it well from beginning to end, with ethical questions, strong themes and for me great use of exposition. Difficult to fault in my opinion within that context. Way better than the Hunger Games for example. There are some real emotional moments in this series and Newt's death was dealt with very well. All characters had a decent arc and change by the end. Even Teresa. It's not perfect but it's very good when it had no business being that good. I watch this series once a year and don't ever get bored of it. But that's just me. But anyway, great video.
I'm not impressed by the reaction. This film is a science-fiction action film. In fiction you are often required to accept a premise which you would never accept in the real world. In a genre like science fiction, there are scientific/technological elements in the story which you would not believe in your everyday world. Even in a more real-world genre such as action movies, the action routinely goes beyond the boundaries of what you think could really happen. Think of all those crazy car chases or those pistols that never run out of bullets, for example. Along these lines, anyone watching this film has to also realize: 1) It's a dramatic film, and it's allowed artistic/dramatic license and 2) it's science fiction, not science fact. The viewer also must be able to separate his reality from the film's reality. There's a both a suspension of belief and disbelief. Artistic license allows characters to jump from tall buildings into a pool of water and survive uninjured. Many great action films have scenes like this. Now, If instead of falling into the pool, they flew like Superman, then they'd be violating the viewer's suspension of disbelief. As long as a film is consistent within its universe, the viewer has no cause to complain.
My most vivid teen memory from the books and movies was just how much Newt’s death hurt and the shock when Gally pops up to whip everyone back into shape. Also the other two books are prequels released during the film release time so they franchise wasn’t squished
Guys check out: - Underworld - Underworld: Evolution - Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - Underworld: Awakening There're 5 movies, but unfortunately the story starts to get lost after 4 movies and 5 is horrible, so I won't even recommend it... but they're excellent movies about vampires and werewolves.
I haven't seen a comment about it but Vince is played by Barry Pepper, the same dude that played the snipper on Saving Private Ryan. It was such a nice surprise to see him back on a big budget movie and being such a badass.
as someone who's been a massive maze runner fan for years (read the books but preferred the movies), am i the only one that think the second and third books wouldn't have translated that well into movies? the plots were good book-wise, but turning that into a movie then becomes a whole thing on its own so changing the stories kind of makes sense to me. i generally treat the movies and the books as their own separate entities
So… I haven’t read the book in full yet. I’ve read like halfway through chapter two so far, so I really can’t say a whole lot on the comparisons between the movie and the book. Except the beginning is completely different! I really loved this movie like the other two. I literally bawled my eyes out after watching this movie. Newt’s death hit harder than any character death I have ever seen, even Tony Stark’s death didn’t hit me that hard. I ended up watching some really sad video edits afterwards and I started crying all over again. It took me a couple weeks to get hold of myself 😂. (Let’s just say I’m a very emotional person hehe.) Hey fun fact, Thomas Brodie Sangster actually wrote Newt’s letter himself and was standing behind Dylan reading it. Those were also real tears that Dylan was crying when Thomas was gonna shoot Ava. Guys I can not stress this enough. You Need To Read The Books!!! Also Stella I must say you have a very cute nose twitch 😂. 1:00:29 Well that’s it. Absolutely loved the reaction to the trilogy!
also something that i’ve been hoping for is that during Newt and Thomas’s fight, the knife went into Thomas so when it stabbed Newt TECHNICALLY his blood went into Newt, and his blood is the cure… so MAYBE Newt recovered and he’ll appear sometime in the future. i’m just trying to find some hope here…
There are way too many inconsistencies in these movies but they’re still my fav. U guys made a great point of how little chemistry Thomas had w Teresa and the actual chemistry was between the Gladers and kinda Brenda & Jorge. That’s why a lot of fans ship Newtmas
With the books, only 3 were made into movies. The final 2 books of the series are prequels to the original trilogy. There was never any motive to make the final 2 into movies. There’s also a new-ish book that is a part of the Death Cure (book 3) that’s told thru Newt’s point of view. Not to mention, there’s tie-in material from the Maze Runner Files, which is a collection of short stories and info about the series. And there’s the sequel series, the Maze Cutter series. It takes place 73 years after the original trilogy. That series is supposed to be 3 books. For the universe that this is all told in, there’s going to be 10 books. This, of course, isn’t counting in the comics which focus more on the movies than the books.
You guys should watch deleted scenes and bloopers for these film if you have the time, especially those regarding Newt's backstory, also awesome reaction as always.
Unpopular opinion, but I have always liked Teresa. Even when I read the books, I never felt that hatred for her character that other people have expressed. I like how she believes in what she's doing, but she still feels guilty about it. She's definitely a character who will justify the means if it meant saving the "greater good." I like her death scene in the movies a lot more than in the books. In the book, Thomas and Teresa are running to try to get in this portal thing because the building was collapsing if I remember correctly. Well, they were almost out, but a piece of debris falls on her and she just died right there. It was out of nowhere and I wasn't sure how I felt about it after I finished the book. In the movie, it's seems much more of a deliberate choice of Teresa. She knew what she did was wrong and I interpret her staying as she felt too guilty to go with them after everything she'd done. She betrayed the whole group and watched as Minho got tortured. She knew she couldn't come back from that. I also think we understand Teresa and Thomas's relationship better in the books. They both had the ability to talk telepathically with each other. They had a bond before the maze, so that's why it feels like Thomas can't give up on her.
RIGHT? I'm so confused why everyone hates her. I read the books and they CLEARLY state that she didn't betray or toy with him, she was literally force to by WICKED. The author doesn't get the hate either 🤷🏻♀️ In the movies however she does go over the line a little.
@@Naahi95 I'm glad you brought up that she was forced by WICKED. It's been awhile since I read the books, but Teresa was assigned the role as the betrayer. She had no choice but to do what she was told in order to protect Thomas. It felt like a betrayal to Thomas, but Teresa was always on his side if remembered correctly. Since the movies took such a turn in how they did the story, I understand why people don't like her, but I still find her an interesting character and I was still sad when she died.
@@tappycard2050 she literally was assigned by WCKED as "betrayer" in WCKED plans, she carries all guilty by no election, i love her and hate how hated she is
if it serves the "greater good" yeah, nah too many evil people historically in real life have used the "for the greater good" excuse, for it to have any redeeming aspect for the bad stuff she does, but thats just how I see it.
Some differences between the movie and the book: 1. In the movie, only Teresa is seen as a traitor, but in the books she and Aris are the traitors. 2. Brenda and Jorge work for W.I.C.K.E.D. more help Thomas and friends and Brenda and Jorge in the books are immune. 3. Thomas and Teresa kiss shortly before her death in the film, but this kiss does not exist in the Death Cure book. Including, in the movie, she falls along with the building, in the book, the building collapses on top of her. 4. Despite Thomas' crush on Teresa, in the books he shows a certain amount of affection for Brenda. He is noted in the final scenes of The Death Cure as showing affection from her without the rejection of Tomas sometimes. In the movies, only two scenes demonstrate this. One of the scenes is the exchange of glances in the Cranks' tunnel when she saves him. Another is the connection where she cries when Thomas tells her to leave without him. But at the end of the book it is implied that the two end up together, but in the film Thomas apparently has no relationship with anyone at the end other than his eternally beloved Teresa. 5. In the movie "Death Cure", Gally says he was rescued by the Right Arm, but in the book he was rescued by WICKED and inside he found a Right Arm spy and followed instructions to be expelled from WICKED. 6. In the books, Newt runs away from Thomas and leaves a note written: "Kill me. If you are really my friend. Kill me." Then Thomas finds him and then Newt begs him to kill him before he becomes a full crank. Thomas kills him with a headshot. 🥲
The sad thing is that WCKD basically killed newt because they turned on the lights and light irritates cranks so newt would still be alive if it weren't for WCKD 😭
The other two books yall were thinking of The Kill Order and The Fever Code were actually prequels. I never read them. Apparently there is a sequel that was published last year but all I've heard about it is that it was set some 70 years after The Death Cure
when i watched this in theaters it felt like a short movie but i think it’s cause it was kind of empty? like i can’t explain it, it’s feels like a lot happened but nothing all at once. i still think the second movie was epic.
Your expressions during the final fight between Newt and Thomas made me cry over his death all over again like i was 13 again 😭😭 in the book it’s somehow even worse, the hated Page 250 of The Death Cure still hurts me to this day ngl and it’s been 8 years LOL 😭 Also I hated that Thomas’ blood was the cure, this wasn’t the case in the books. Like, the cure was with Newt all along, right freaking next to him. It does make for a very tragic story though fcmfnmhmfmdfh
Fun fact in the books Newt actually makes Thomas shoot him it’s horrobly painful. Words like “kill me, if you’ve ever been my friend. Kill me” and “Please, Tommy. Please.”
i never liked teresa all that much even in the books, but to be fair thomas and her feelings for each other and his difficulty in letting her go made more sense in the books because for a large chunk of the story they were telepathically connected and could talk to each other in their minds, so we got to see a lot more of their conversations and their general dynamic explored more. i have no idea why they left that out in the movies, it would have helped their relationship make a little more sense and possibly even make teresa a little more sympathetic to the audience. i enjoyed the movies because i thought of them more as another series _inspired by_ tmr, rather than an adaptation of tmr because of how much the second and third movies split off from the storyline in the books; which were definitely far superior to the movies, despite the top tier casting the movies had. but hey, that's just how movie adaptations go sometimes. very hit or miss, and almost always hated by (or generally upsetting to) the book lovers who got to experience the story in its optimal form. i think mostly we just feel frustrated that movie watchers who don't like to read/have no interest in trying to read the books will never really get to know the full/real story, just the bastardization of it via cinema. it is what it is tho lmao
Teresa is less worthy in the books. Are we just going to bypass all the ways she backstabbed and tortured Thomas? Even kissing other dudes in front of him? In the movies, she's practically a nun.
@@xejelah i never said she was worthy or a good person in either version. my point was that there was more context and build up for their relationship in the books, so it was more believable that they even had anything between them to begin with. they said after watching the movies they felt like there was never really anything there between thomas and teresa, so basically my comment was confirming that it was definitely a case of the director/writers cutting it down so much and leaving out important aspects.
@@xejelah She never did that. The books CLEARLY state that she didn't betray or toy with him, she was literally force to by WICKED. When they capture her they said "either you do this to Thomas (the psycological torture) or we kill" so she didn't have much of a choice did she? The author himself doesn't get the hate either 🤷🏻♀️
I literally cried when I found out about what happened to Teresa when I watched this the first time a while ago! 50:35 Teresa would have had the chance to jump and she would not have died, I was so mad and upset! Poor Thomas:(
I mean talking in prospective from the books losing Teresa was much harder on Thomas than it was here. But I think her choice not to jump (from movie events E.G- Minhos kidnap) actually made a big statement to the fact she knows the wrongs she did in trying to find a cure and not being able to face them. But that’s just my interpretation of it
Yeah this definitely wasn't the best lol but love all three. I feel like the best quality wise was the first one, the second was the most entertaining, and the third was the saddest 😭. I feel like we need to see another film from Wes Ball, the director. This trilogy was his debut, and the biggest problem was the script. I feel like if someone gave Wes a great script, he could direct a great movie, cause he also had a lot of creative freedom with the look of things, like the grievers for example
Nobu was right. What was Teressa’s plan in doing all this….to get back into Thomas’s pants like she tortured her FRIENDS or supposed friends for a cure in which there is no guarantee if it will happen. She was living in luxury while her friends suffered. There’s no forgiveness.
@@Aloysius_OHare You claimed that Teresa was trying to get into Thomas's pants and that she was expecting him and the others to understand her decision. There was zero hint of that. Teresa wanted to keep her memories because she wanted to remember how hard she had worked to try and get a cure. Getting it would be the only way it would have been worth it to her.
From what I recall from the books there was a lot of Thomas/Brenda adventures and getting to know each other that got cut in the movies. I think they hid out in a car all night or something and just talked. I remember Thomas and Brenda end up together which at the time I loved because there were not many series where the lead character stays with the second female lead (almost always it seemed it was the first female lead). I also think Teresa’s betrayal in the books was forced and they solely did it to see how Thomas would react (by forcing Teresa and Aris to fake a romantic affair or something?) because Wcked was testing Thomas in every way possible (I.e, physically, emotionally, etc).
Teresa is a great character, she teaches that sacrificing friendship and love to work on a goal, without following what others say. There is no cure in the book, but she shows her dissension at the last moment when she realizes that there is no more time for a cure, that's when she decided to go with Thomas even though she died 😭. I understand that the way to get the cure over other lives is not correct, but you will never see a manual to make the processes as moral and correct as possible in any unknown thing, either to understand it or to take advantage of it. Perdonen mi inglés pero Excelente contenido chicos, saludos.
Eh, I don't agree that getting a cure over lives is not correct. And I certainly hope that if someone was in such position, that doesn't let billions die to save his friends
Totally agree with Nobu and Stella's view on Teresa in this movie, especially at 15:51-17:00. I get where Teresa is coming from, and I can understand how she's rationalizing her morals and where she stands. However, I don't support the way she went about it. She could have easily gone back to WCKD without betraying her friends and getting all those innocent people killed in the second film. She also could have just talked to the others about it instead of waiting until the very last second to just completely blindside them. I also don't think she was redeemed in this movie at all. She only regretted and realized how she was doing things was wrong when Jensin was trying to kill Thomas and Thomas got shot saving her life. So, her dying did nothing for me. The movie really tried to get us to feel sympathy for her and I kind of do think she has good intentions but she's just very flawed morally. Sacrificing tons of lives to find a cure is not going to solve anything. Why do some lives mean more than others? And how many more have to die for this cure? That makes no sense. Also, finding a cure at the expense of kidnapping, torturing, and killing people, is not the answer and does not make you the saint fighting for humanity. I don't get why they didn't just ask for volunteers, instead of being so militant about these trails and tests. I feel like there won't be half the deaths if this was the direction WCKD went.
Stella, you talk about books like I do! 😂. I love the videos with the girls as well! Boys, i really enjoy listening to your insights and observations. I think all four of you together has a great mixture of book knowledge, creepy good guesses at plots (Hailey), animation but also logical analysis (Nobu? Sorry if I spelled your name wrong!) and interesting little snippets about cinematography and verbal reactions (james) You’ve built a wonderful channel, and the fact you don’t outsource your editing and such is amazing as well.
So I haven't read the books, or even seen this movie (just the other two and your reactions), but like Stella was saying, in the movie continuity, the reason Brenda is fine despite being infected in the last movie is because of the doctor lady who was part of Right Arm who made serum for her using Thomas' blood. That doctor lady then gets killed when WCKD attacks after Teresa betraying them. Doesn't that mean that Teresa trying to do "what she thought was right" is actually even worse than the moral implication of betraying your friends to try and save others? Since that doctor lady would have realized way sooner that Brenda was completely fine and then been able to make the cure from Thomas' blood without anyone else dying way earlier? Or even just making more serum from Thomas and then curing more people completely by accident!? So betraying them ended up working counter to Teresa's own goal and that's just never brought up by anyone!?
So excited to see your reaction. I've been putting it off for when I had free time so I could 'watch the movie' with you guys haha. By the way, they didn't have 5 books adapted into these movies. The movies adapted the 3 main books. The other 2 are prequels (IIRC) to the whole story and were not adapted into the movies, except some tidbits from _The Kill Order_ James Dashner might have wanted to include. (the other prequel, _The Fever Code,_ was published after the first two movies.) As I said in a reply, I've always believed that the relationship between Thomas and Teresa would've been better if they were siblings. Like, _so_ much better, especially in the movies in which they lacked their telepathic power. Didn't get the full picture of why Thomas is attached to Teresa so much? You don't need their backstory -- just knowing that they were siblings and have their memories back is understandable.
I haven't read the books and I LOVE the movies! I understand book fans being upset about the changes they've made but nonetheless this is a great trilogy. The last one could have been better tho. Teresa is the reason a lot died but she's also the reason a lot lived and she really believed she was doing the right thing, not like Janson for example, so I can't bring myself to hate her even tho I know that's a very unpopular opinion lol
Love the reactions to this series. My comment is about Brenda..... I totally noticed before you guys mentioned it that she is the girl from Battle Angel but I'm not sure if I had noticed it before or if when I watched this movie battle angel had even been released.
What is your favorite book to film adaptation of all time??
YA book alone, Definitely The Maze Runner. There have been a lot of YA to Film adaptions, but most of them have failed to entertain me the same way the books have. But The Maze Runner delivers. While not as "by the books" as other book adaptations, Its non stop action, its character development/morals/relationships, cast, and over all premise, seem to win me over every time.
hunger games has got to be the best one, follows the books very closely and some would argue improves upon the books!
The Hunger Games gets trashed a lot but it was hit for a reason
The Harry Potter series obviously.
He’s a tough man so glad he pulled through
The first scene we see is actually the take that he got hurt in
In the movies Thomas has more chemistry with literally anyone else but Teresa.
me when i lie for likes:
For real him and Brenda over Teresa
Dylan and Kaya don't agree. The kiss wasn't scripted. It was something the actors decided on their own. They ship their characters together
Bro has more chemistry with Newt-
right i ship newtmas but if it was bewtween teresa or brenda I say teresa
Spoilers for the book:
This franchise really struggles with all the changes they made from the books.
Very cool thank you!
❤❤
The book letter hit me hard. One line with Newt asking Thomas to kill him when he turned.
i know it made me cry even more when i found out
It's quite a love-letter.
is there any footage of this bts?
@@WhyNot-h3p hmm i think there's no video bts, but it was the author of the books who said this info in 2018. you could check his tweets to see 🥹👌
Newt's death was mostly considered one of the worst in the fandom.
That's almost every actor after any movie. They are told to do so by promoters to sell the movie more
@@AnkitSingh-vm1gn they were one of the exceptions in the industry actually. They still see and text eachother on whatsapp after 9 years! ;)
Plus you can tell the bond between them was a genuine one, that's also part of the trilogy's success and what made them a very realistic and comfortable group to watch on screen
Gally’s return is the most shocking part to me. He started as a character I loved to hate and was a complete douche but then he grew up, matured, and ended up leading everyone to victory
I literally screamed when he showed up! haha
I didn't expect him to be there either.
A sad thing about newt but also something that explains why he’s so close to Minho and is so intent on saving him is that in the books, it’s revealed that newt tried to commit s*icide and Minho saved him
In the books it was actually Alby! In the deleted scene for the movie they changed it to Minho but cut the whole scene.
@@barkbark5265
Oh that’s right I got confused there!
But seriously I wish they had kept that scene
3:53 this scene was actually a real stunt made by Dylan O'Brien, he was then pulled under a vehicle and badly injured. The scene was still used, although producers wanted to cut it out, but Dylan said it should stay in, so that his accident wasn't "in vain". He needed 1 year to recover, with many facial reconstructive surgeries.
no offense but that doesn’t sound right to me
@@Notjamm you can literally search it up yourself, if you don't believe me (which is fine), he himself said it in interviews years after the accident 😶🌫️
Well, I know it's something crazy that Thomas still has this affection for Teresa, but it is very important to remember that they have a relationship before the maze (it was a deep meaning between them) and in the book, they shared something like Telepathy, so they are always connected. That's the reason behind the romantic scenes and the goodbye in the end :(
Now that you mention it I remembered the telepathy thing between the two of them.
Newt’s death honestly crushes me the most every time I watch it. He knew he wasn’t safe and was begging Thomas to kill him 😢 talk about tragic
I don't think it's funny i think she's the only one who cared that's why she noticed
if that's the case then why was Brenda cured? She only got the blood
@@xejelah No. I saw the serum. Thomas's blood was just a part of it.
He is named after the author's best friend
(Also, sorry if I misspelled any of the names)
Thomas already had a relationship with Tressa before the maze that we never got to see in depth so this is why he’s drawn to her later on and this why it didn’t feel like it was that meaningful essentially!
Exactly 💯
yeh I was surprised when Stella didn't get the relationship considering she said she read the books earlier on!
@@malwindersingh5131 well she did say she could barely remember them
Who Thomas end up with in the end of the movie?
@@lukester939 Nobody actually. He loved Teresa more than anyone but, since it's an open ending you could say that maybe Brenda
Stella’s chaotic good energy rooting for Teresa’s death was savage and I am here for it.
However, the books are no less interesting than the films, so if you liked the films, I advise you to read the books!
yeah I’m reading the kill order: which is the 4th book! :)
@@idkevaa I hope you like them)
@@maksymchernenko thank you I am! but one question if u have already read it, is the fever code continuing on from the kill order?
@@idkevaa Not really, The Fever Code talks about Thomas and the other Gladers before being sent to the maze. You will find some thing from The Kill Order, but it can be said that these are almost unrelated books. The Kill Order is about what happened to the world

Nobu asked how "it" (the train cars) braked so fast: train cars are designed to automatically brake if they become disconnected from the train. It's a thing!
Yeah, something the railroad learned long ago: Runaway trains are bad!
i feel like it's only right to watch the divergent series next. the series has mixed reviews but i think it would be fun to watch yalls reaction
Sadly, the last movie was never made so you were left hanging.
I commented this last maze runner video THANK YOU:)
I actually put off watching death cure for about a year because i found out newt dies, and i couldn't handle it 😂
This was my favorite of the 3 movies. Teresa made me so mad 😂
Nobu ranting about Teresa doesn’t make sense is my spirit animal
Thomas and Teresa had a relationship before, and continued to have feelings for eachother despite the lack of memory. The movie didn't show that, which is why some of the viewers couldn't understand their bond
21:07 newt wasn’t bit, he just isn’t immune like fry and Minho and gally. It became airborn hence his infection
@@wilhelm-z4t OMG THAT MAKES SENSE
i personally love this series more than the hunger games because i for some reason were never interested in the hunger games movies but the maze runner movies were just perfect entertainment for me idk why and am a little disappointed they aren’t as loved as they deserve . the environments , action , lighting, acting and the monsters all looked amazing nothing really looked horrible. The only problem i had for how often thomas looks behind him lol just makes me so intense and how aris was barely a character in the third film.
even though i knew newt was going to die since i read the books i don’t think i’ve ever cried so hard over a character death. he was my fav 😭
To clarify, the books were always a trilogy, but the other two books are prequels. Teresa in the books was better but not much better from what I can remember
Teresa in the movies is like an angel compared to how awful she's in the books 😂
@@Naahi95 EXACTLY, she's kinda hero by gettin the guilt and doin all she doesnt want just for Thomas to be safe. She's my favorite books character
@@Naahi95it’s not confusing at all, she’s a selfish person who would rather sacrifice her friends than herself
@@ranniwolvessacrificing herself wouldn’t do any good. She’s the only one of them who can do the science stuff.
For example:
"Kill me you shuck coward. Prove you can do the right thing. Put me out of my misery. "
The words horrified Thomas, "Newt, maybe we can--"
"Just shut up! Shut up! I trusted you! Now do it!"
"I can't!"
"Do it!"
"I can't!" How could Newt ask him to do something like this? How could he possibly kill one of his best friends?
"Kill me or I'll kill you. Kill me! Do it!"
"Newt..."
"Do it before I become one of them!"
"I..."
"KILL ME!" And then Newt's eyes cleared, as if he gained one last trembling gasp of sanity, and his voice softened. "Please, Tommy, Please."
With his heart falling into a black abyss, Thomas pulled the trigger.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Ikr? :'(
I knew after seeing the 2nd film that Thomas was the cure. I am surprised more people didn’t figure that out earlier.
I feel like this was a missed opportunity to have a semi-serious little discussion and some of you seemed to want to talk about the bigger 'issues' but the rest were just busy talking about how much they hated Teresa.
very well said
I so agree with you. Stella especially was really childish about it
I'm happy y'all reacted to this one and look forward to seeing more of you guys reactions to come
Brenda was saved by the blood transfusion from Thomas not by the serum from the Right Arm
„maybe if she like sacrificed hersel-…"
***teresa dies from sacrificing herself***
The last city was filmed in Cape Town South Africa. Where I live. It's so funny to see the places i know in the background of shots
All four of you are looking dapper! I'm not used to seeing you all in winter clothes🙂. Can't wait for this reaction! 😁
Thanks!!
My most vivid teen memory from the books and movies was just how much Newt’s death hurt and the shock when Gally pops up to whip everyone back into shape. Also the other two books are prequels released during the film release time so they franchise wasn’t squished
I got a tissue box and some Advil, ready for all the pain.
I did not miss this pain
Guys check out:
- Underworld
- Underworld: Evolution
- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
- Underworld: Awakening
There're 5 movies, but unfortunately the story starts to get lost after 4 movies and 5 is horrible, so I won't even recommend it... but they're excellent movies about vampires and werewolves.
This. I totally agree
You're absolutely correct.
(Let’s just say I’m a very emotional person hehe.)
Hey fun fact, Thomas Brodie Sangster actually wrote Newt’s letter himself and was standing behind Dylan reading it. Those were also real tears that Dylan was crying when Thomas was gonna shoot Ava.
Guys I can not stress this enough. You Need To Read The Books!!!
Also Stella I must say you have a very cute nose twitch 😂. 1:00:29
Well that’s it.
"Deus ex Brenda" 😂
“You know you're the bad guys when you have a train full of people” can be said for ALOT of things in history
Fun Fact: The car accidently flipped over but they decided to keep it in the movie.
Unpopular opinion, but I have always liked Teresa. Even when I read the books, I never felt that hatred for her character that other people have expressed. I like how she believes in what she's doing, but she still feels guilty about it. She's definitely a character who will justify the means if it meant saving the "greater good."
I like her death scene in the movies a lot more than in the books.
You're right, a very unpopular opinion.
Some differences between the movie and the book:
Super fun reaction. Thanks guys!
Your expressions during the final fight between Newt and Thomas made me cry over his death all over again like i was 13 again 😭😭 in the book it’s somehow even worse, the hated Page 250 of The Death Cure still hurts me to this day ngl and it’s been 8 years LOL 😭
Also I hated that Thomas’ blood was the cure, this wasn’t the case in the books.
The maze runner 3 movie is very amazing, and the reaction was great.
Not me balling my eyes out when Newt died
Now you gotta react to the bloopers 😄
I literally cried when I found out about what happened to Teresa when I watched this the first time a while ago! 50:35 Teresa would have had the chance to jump and she would not have died, I was so mad and upset! Poor Thomas:(
I mean talking in prospective from the books losing Teresa was much harder on Thomas than it was here. But I think her choice not to jump (from movie events E.G- Minhos kidnap) actually made a big statement to the fact she knows the wrongs she did in trying to find a cure and not being able to face them. But that’s just my interpretation of it
Hayley laughing: omg she's a lil crazy >.<
Hayley completely serious: I love it.
Was surprised it took you that long (at part 3 even), to see "ALITA"... (^_^)
Can’t wait for this reaction 🔥
So happy u guys r doing this
Great to see Cape Town, South Africa as the backdrop of this movie
Didn’t like this as much when I saw it in cinema (still bawled at Newt’s letter though), but i must say it has grown on me since then.
Maze runner Scorch trials Death cure
Escape Survive Fight
13:36 the car falling over was actually an accident but it fit the script so well that they kept it in
Yeah this definitely wasn't the best lol but love all three.
So glad you’re doing this
Ironically, this movie came out in 2018, two years before Covid. The scenes of people wearing masks in the crowd are...prophetic.
Nobu and Stella had me dying in this reaction 😂
Theese girls are a total upgrade on the channel, congrats to all of you guys!!👏👏
Nobu was right. What was Teressa’s plan in doing all this….to get back into Thomas’s pants like she tortured her FRIENDS or supposed friends for a cure in which there is no guarantee if it will happen. She was living in luxury while her friends suffered. There’s no forgiveness.
That wasn't it.
@@ihh619 but what was, thats the point like she admits that she would do it again meaning betray them. So im confused.
Yep, Theresa didn't really betray Thomas or anyone in the books. She was FORCED to act a betray by Wicked.
Teresa is trash
50:50 “Time for phase 4”😂
Stella, you talk about books like I do! 😂. I love the videos with the girls as well! Boys, i really enjoy listening to your insights and observations. I think all four of you together has a great mixture of book knowledge, creepy good guesses at plots (Hailey), animation but also logical analysis (Nobu? Sorry if I spelled your name wrong!) and interesting little snippets about cinematography and verbal reactions (james)
You’ve built a wonderful channel, and the fact you don’t outsource your editing and such is amazing as well.
I love this movie more than anything I literally have it on in the background while watching
Stella's attitude towards Teresa is absolutely satisfying
So excited to see your reaction. I've been putting it off for when I had free time so I could 'watch the movie' with you guys haha.
By the way, they didn't have 5 books adapted into these movies. The movies adapted the 3 main books. The other 2 are prequels (IIRC) to the whole story and were not adapted into the movies, except some tidbits from _The Kill Order_ James Dashner might have wanted to include. (the other prequel, _The Fever Code,_ was published after the first two movies.)
As I said in a reply, I've always believed that the relationship between Thomas and Teresa would've been better if they were siblings. Like, _so_ much better, especially in the movies in which they lacked their telepathic power. Didn't get the full picture of why Thomas is attached to Teresa so much? You don't need their backstory -- just knowing that they were siblings and have their memories back is understandable.
Ohhhh ok!!
Also yeah Newt was my favourite
I have been waiting for this reaction!
I just have to ask. What lipstick are the girls wearing because both shades look amazing.
Love the reactions to this series. My comment is about Brenda..... I totally noticed before you guys mentioned it that she is the girl from Battle Angel but I'm not sure if I had noticed it before or if when I watched this movie battle angel had even been released.
