The unsung heroes of the modern age are people who maintain Wikipedia and who make How-To videos. I really appreciate that you took time to do this - I'm headed to the parts store with new confidence. You probably just saved me several hundred dollars in mechanic bills.
Just to add. The little valve/hole in the flat part of the thermostat must go to the top. It's an air bleed. If it's not at the top you will most likely get a nice air lock in your system that can't escape.
Yeah, very awesome because I use these videos as motivation! I thought "I'm not getting out to the shop" Then watched a few videos and said, "I'm getting out to the shop!" LOL 😆 Awesome video!!!
@@fixitsamo ok thank you. My bf replaced mine and the temperature needle goes up to just the quarter and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the placement of the thermostat.
@fixitsamo I appear to have a leak whenever I start the jeep back up. Is that from the hoses not being tight? It seems a little too much to be coming from thermostat area?
+WestcreekKid Usually it should be very easy to locate the leaks from the hoses If its from the thermostat area make sure that there's no cracks in the new seal And double check if you placed the seal properly and that you cleaned the seal area sometimes if the surface area are not properly cleaned from the old seal it could create gaps between the motor and the thermostat casing

Would a dab of anti sieze be a good idea to put on the bolts before installing new thermo back in?
Great video. What temp should the gauge be at to be operating normally? Mine barely reaches 200 F. I have a 95 Wrangler 2.5 liter
yes I did drain the antifreeze
Very nice. You make it look sooooooo easy.
Awesome. Gonna do this tomorrow and take a 20 min test ride
youxsaved my life and my car. hehe. thank u sir.
+Moi Javier thank you and welcome :)
Thank you very much for the upload. It really helped me

Thank you and welcome
After replacing the thermostat, do you need to burp the cooling system of air? If so, what's the best procedure?
Thanks.
So no RTV on the gasket? Dry is best?
Is there a temp sending unit on the 98 TJ as well, or just the temp sensor?
Great video thanks for the information :) much love
Thank you
Did you drain some, or all, of the coolant prior?
No need to drain you just add when done
Did you have to drain any of the antifreeze first
thank you sir. Great video!
welcome :)
Is this the same for a ‘97 tj?
Yes
in hot areas, do we really need the thermostat?
I don't think so...
yes you do......
sojourn why would we? care to elaborate?
Achisachis73 your car will overheat and a possible explosion could happen, or engine failure.
That's when it's needed the most. Blown head gasket can also result with overheating. Great video. Have extra coolant ready
It is waaay easier if you loosen the belt to get that bottom bolt.
Are thermostats universal?
No
What if the thermostat is not exactly in the center?
If you tighten the screws and the thermostat is not centered in it’s proper position you might damage the seal and eventually start a leak

I did this yesterday but when I put everything together it started leaking. I don’t know what I did wrong
Probably didn't get those annoying squeeze clamps on tight enough. Make sure they are down as far as possible to provide maximum clampage of hose.
