Agree. Michael Che is more complete. (He does great sets) Both are great writers but Che does a mean Stand Up special. Neither do very well in sketches though.

The one star review thing is true. One time I was looking up apartment cleaners and this one company this one 1 star review. It was the most depressing thing and I was not prepared for it. The lady’s 19 y old son had committed suicide in the apartment and she went on about how she had hired them to clean up the apartment after that and honestly everything else was a blur because I was just so frickin sad.

His energy in the first half is pretty low, once he starts getting angry at the computer the crowd starts laughing more.

@@alex-wk8io don't forget...endured plenty of bullying, as he was fat... didn't do that well at most sports, except swimming. Took a bus, took a ferry, took the subway to get to his high school (yes, a public one) in New York. Took 1.5 hrs there, 1.5 hrs back. Taught him a lot about people, self agency, life.
His mom worked for the fire department when 9/11 happened & that was powerful.
His grandfather, who had had many jobs, told him to protect his brain. Which is partly why he never used drugs. He worked hard in school, particularly speech and debate...which is even more amazing, since he couldn't speak until age 4, and credits a speech therapist with changing his life.
He worked as a lifeguard, worked various jobs to earn money. So, whatever confirmation bias you want to feed...try to look at the big picture zoomed out, call out the cognitive distortions. All the stuff you listed, might be true (except he wasn't wealthy before SNL...and even then, it took a while), but it's like a very incomplete dimensional analysis equation. When so many variables are missing, the end conclusion "answer" is very off.
We categorize and create a narrative, in an effort to "other"...which is at the root of all behavior that lacks empathy, and failing to see humanity in someone. We discredit them, as a human, due to certain beliefs we hold, and the meaning we assign it.
Deep underneath, it can be hitting unaddressed core wounds within us...having little to do with the person we are being self righteous towards.
His timing is a bit off sometimes, but I think he's pretty good otherwise

I think the pacing issues are just due to poor editing. They probably had to edit out Michael Che heckling him about how square/white these bits are.

He made a joke that's very American-sensitive/centric. If you're not in the US, you don't know necessarily what he's talking about - he made that joke outside the US, so... Better to cater (better) to your audience IMO.

I think the audience is poorly mic'ed up in this theatre, I've noticed a bunch of comedians getting quiet laughs in these videos. It's like the Correspondents Dinner, some shows just don't mic up the audience as well as others

This was a funny set, but I don’t think the audience realized that. Most of the time there was just polite laughter.
I worked with a guy in his late 20's that was chubby in high school. His hobby was marathon running and clearly he no longer had any appreciable fat on his body. It was hard to imagine him as anything but crazy thin until I saw his facebook page. After a couple months, I was 100% certain that he hated himself, used endurance running as a way to punish himself for perceived flaws and relied on negative humor about all of our co-workers as preemptive self defense. To his credit, he broke his ankle one weekend during a 5k and showed up to work on crutches in a rental because his normal car was manual transmission. He brushed it off and sounded disgusted with himself for breaking a bone during a "mom race". As big of a jerk as he sometimes was, I'd want him on my team during an apocalypse. He's the kind of guy that would never quit even if you dropped a nuclear bomb on his house. I was his only friend in the office and I feel like he'd go through a lot of shit to save my ass, and make fun of me for not being more awesome. Maybe that's what growing up with body dysmorphia does to you.
Keep in mind, he's in Montreal, so many in the crowd may not get the references he's making. Even in the US, many wouldn't be able to recall what songs Flo-rida was famous for or much about him. I think the 1 star Yelp review bit was good but it's possible the issue he's describing is less common in Montreal. Canadians aren't known for being as dramatic, over the top, and unfair.
