She was a living legend. Now she's an eternal legend. She was absolutely the wittiest quickest person around. She and George Carlin will forever be the greatest there ever was.
kevin heming Of course, I can only guess. But I suspect the following reasons: Youth is EVERYTHING in the entertainment business and she wanted to stay relevant as long as possible. Or, she was truly insecure about her looks and wanted to improve them anyway she could. Or, it could be that is just made her feel better. Who knows? In anycase, I though she looked spectacular for her age and I have to say that I thought she was more beautiful as her older self with all the work done than when she was younger and natural. So, in that respect, GOOD JOB JOAN!
cornflkeboy1 Isn't it a little ironic that she should succumb under the knife, when she wasn't having plastic surgery, but an op on her throat!! I had plastic surgery just over a year ago, I just wanted to 'freshen up' and even though I've looked after myself & my skin, time was starting to show; luckily mine went very well. Some people don't care how they look (or say they don't) and some people find the passing of time quite distressing and if they can do something about it, they will. I wish I didn't care but I do and so in that small way I can identify with her lifetime struggle to look the way she wanted, I hope to start enjoying her shows again soon, not quite there yet ;( Hugs to all missin her xx
I actually though she looked better as she aged. Yes, she did it through plastic surgery. But I also think she was cautious and did things in the right way to where she never looked freakish like many celebrities do.
kevin heming I actually see her looks as continuing to evolve over the years and at no point did it not seem like "her". I think she did it the right way and that even at the end she was beautiful.
Agreed. Sadly most men don't gravitate toward class and elegance. It's too much of a challenge. Then they want to complain when easy come walks right out the door with half of everything and alimony. They'll pass up class for a lady who dresses like a rappers left overs then complain when she sleeps with their buddies or her waste expands. I have zero pity.
Yes I agree very funny. Joan Rivers is in fine form here. Some people don't like Clive Anderson, but I think these shows he did in the 1990s were some of the funniest TV I've seen.
BREAKING NEWS: just to clarify. The BBC changed Clive's programme format to "All Talk" on 4th April 1996. It ran for 7 series. In the 4th series he brought Joan on. The episode was filmed on 13th November 1996. And aired on 9th Jan 1997. Lourdes, born October 1996. OJ Simpson, verdict ended 1996. MJ & Lisa - separated 1996. It all fits❤️
Well your video host does a pretty good Joan Rivers on a daily basis, unfortunately when you're not famous, not everyone gets it 😜. I still miss her loads too, a one off & we could really do with her common sense today, so keep on being sensible for Joan 😘.
She looked best around that time. She wore real jewellery then. The brooch alone could have bought her a home in Kensington. LOL only it was her QVC Collection. She was really beautiful here, I thought. Still that mouth needed washing with soap, but that's what we loved her for! What an icon!
I'm nearly in tears from laughing like a drunk hyena over the Madonna joke about the baby not wanting to come out when it was time. That was fantastic! Joan may be gone but we have video footage of her antics to give us laughter always.
Thank you for sharing . Joan was a joy to watch , she always had me laughing . I love Clive too I love his humour and watching them both together was fantastic .🇬🇧💛🤍
Thanks for sharing this, Chillmax 🌈 Joan Rivers is brilliant. I can really see her daughter, Melissa, in her 💝 tart, sharp, risqué, intelligent - what a Dame
"Do you think they'll last?" - the couple they're talking about is JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessett. The marriage lasted three years before rumors of divorce started swirling... but they never divorced because they ended up dying in a plane crash in 1999.
Actually, since this was after Madonna's daughter's birthday, and before the 1996 presidential election, it has to be between October 14th and November 5th 1996.
Well I don't think about it as much now, but at the time & for a long time I was surprised how much I missed her, I loved Fashion Police and when she was suddenly gone there was a big void left. I haven't wanted to watch her old stuff until now, but I think I will have a big Joan catch up soon ;-) Max x
Chillmax oh absolutely. The pain of course has minimized compared to when the tragic loss happened, I still miss her of course, not only because of her comedy, but because she was so outspoken and supportive, truly. She had really helped me get out of a really critical state of depression. Will always love her.
Yes, in the final filmed documentary about her, you got to see some of the good work she's done & supporting all of the people around her. Really great to hear her comedy helped when it was needed, I'm sure she would've loved to hear that - whatever it takes to get through ;-) Max x
This is such a lovely interview. They’re both enjoying each other’s company and I think Joan may even have been flirting with Clive just a bit… (check the body language…)
I loved the jewellry of Elizabeth Taylor, but has anyone noticed the amazing jewellry that Miss Rivers has made and collected over the years, I wonder if the total amount will ever reach Elizabeth Taylor's $116m.
In the docu-movie 'A Piece of Work', I think I remember seeing her show her joke reference drawers, it helped her to write & remember her one-liners ;-). Sometimes she reused a few too often, but in the end they became classics I guess.
She did indeed show her joke index library in that documentary. If you watched her a lot, there were many 'repeats', but as you say, they became classics & old friends, I'd give a bunch of money if she could say them again. x
Glad you liked it, not sure what you mean about 'laugh machine' though, that's the audience reactions as recorded, the BBC either never or very rarely add a laughter track ;-)
I did `The Virginia Graham` Show for years and one word you could not say was `orgasm`. Julie Newmar said it I think and Graham freaked out. Rivers is funny. It's can't be 80s if she made references to MJ and Lisa Marie Presley and OJ trial..doh!! Where've u Been, u haven't listened to the interview or ur like 17yo?
+Daniel Jackson: You're thinking of Clive Anderson Talks Back, which was his channel 4 show that ran from 1989-1996. This clip is from his show Clive Anderson All Talk, which began on BBC1 in 1996. This interview is from October '96, just before Joan appears on the Royal Variety show on 28 October '96, which they mention at 0:25.

He's like the awkward geeky guy at a party trying to be hip and cool, getting down with the rest of the house. And he fails, so moves onto the next person with the same schtick....failed again, and then left the party....with no-one noticing he had gone. Sorry Clive. And no apologies to Fallon: 'cos _you_ already _know_ you suck.
It's fine not to like Clive, it takes all sorts, personally I did find him funny. However, I think the comparison to Fallon is unfair & off the mark, as they're really rather different. Clive was a Barrister (Lawyer) & Jimmy was a comedian & actor, so they come from quite different backgrounds & the few times I've seen Fallon I find him rather dim & boorish, whereas Anderson is rapier like, quick-witted & relishes poking holes through any self important celebrity, whilst Fallon sucks up to them.
I rarely see any comedian that spits out jokes that quick! Rest in peace Joan Rivers
I rarely see that in male comedians! Women comedians need to take note.
I love when she leaves other comedians shocked 😲 my favorites both from the Graham Norton Johnny knoxville & the Jake Gyllenhaal one.
She was a living legend. Now she's an eternal legend. She was absolutely the wittiest quickest person around. She and George Carlin will forever be the greatest there ever was.

OMG was there ever a point in this woman's career when she was nothing less than BRILLIANT?!?!?!?!?! Miss you SO MUCH Joan!

Still missed 😢💕
"and she named it, was is it...Lardass?" i almost spit out my lo mein!

She is truly a Fabulous Dresser
She was very qualified to be host of E! channel's Fashion Police

juandenz2008 people misunderstand Clive's wit and playfulness for pomposity. Especially when he interviews Hicks
@@0wls2k And even more especially, when Clive interviews the Bee Gees lol - now that was a highly memorable interview.
Always so classy. Shes such a role model, hard working girl. The joke with the vibrator brilliant, her idea of dealing with the pain... laughter
One my favorite Joan Rivers lines was “The other day I wore my peakaboo blouse. First they peaked and then they booed.”
“I was at the wedding! Yeah it was just the family and me!” 😂😂😂
I could listen to Joan R every day for the rest of my life. I miss having her in the world.
