The incredible Joan Rivers was absolutely brilliant and in a league of her own. Her nonstop, razor-sharp humor never was just incredible. She was the same on-stage because she gave 1000% to her work and remained brilliant until her final performance. RIP, great lady.
But it made her more satisfied. Joan looked pulled. But in her mind it was better than the alternative is, I'm Inclined to agree. People talk about beauty and aging as if it occurs in a vacuum and not in comparison to everything else around it. but the fact of the matter is it's like everything else it is in comparison to the thing next to it. I believe Joan thought this was a better alternative to aging then what would have naturally happened. We will never know for sure and anything that we might have would only be opinions. I thought Joan for 75 80 year old woman looking very good.
@@1911beauty another thing people do not know but I think you may know because you sound like a fan is that she was very kind. I wrote to her maybe 15 years ago and she sent me a lovely autographed photo I sent her stamps with my letter and she even sent my stamps back and paid for the postage herself, she did this for all of her fans. I don't think she wanted people to know how nice she really was.
@@videox222ifyI’m glad you posted that about Joan. I figured she was the type of person to return the postage stamps and pay for a return letter. That’s a great memory you shared about a true icon. We just reached the year 2025 and I think she would have been 91 years old this year. I wonder, if she were still alive, would she still be going strong in public view? RIP Joan ❤😊
She was one of a kind. A brilliant quick mind and I think Johnny recognized not only her talent but quick intelligence and not only respected her but was so proud he gave her the big break she needed. He was the perfect straight man. She said decades later that the she was so happy when he went back in his chair. It's tragic that they never reconciled.
No one could be better in Comedy and Shows than Joan Rivers!!! She is superb with Johnny Carson!! Great Therapy!!! Miss Her a lot and Johnny Carson always has a good laugh with her!!! Both missed so much. So happy I discovered these Shows 15 Years ago!!!
Loved her growing up and now I’m watchin all these old videos of her makes me love her even more. What a ledgend. We’ll never see anyone like this again. There’s only 1 Joan rivers. 😂😂😂😂
Notice how at 7:17 the director Bobby Quinn did not cut back for a reaction shot of Johnny here to Joan's sponge joke. The reason he did not cut back for a reaction shot was that Carson did not expect Joan's joke and he nearly fell on the floor with laughter.
i watched the documentary about Joan Rivers it's called a piece of work she was a very interesting person i found it sad that Johnny Carson stopped talking to her after she got her own late night show good doc.

I just don't understand how Johnny got so angry when Joan left. He didn't renew her contract and fox gave her her own show along with $15million. He should've been happy for her.
She started competing with him as his equal and not for him as his inferior,.. just shows how misogynistic he was since his ego got hurt when Joan didn’t stay in her place under his control
The Tonight show was not going to renew her guest contact??? Never heard that. What I did hear was that The Tonight Show was never going to go to Joan IF and WHEN Johnny left.
Joan Rivers always put her self down in this clip she looks very pretty classy and glamarous she was the best comedian who brought style and glamour into it Joan Rivers always look good
Can we talk?......... If you can turn on something from decades ago and still tear up with laughter it is called true humor one woman who stands alone unlike people who need a straight man she just needed to show up and ask can we talk she could have put on a show for a drawer full of socks and the dresser would have fell apart we miss you dearly and Heaven a funnier place with your presence and I are continues to be with your memory
Joan said that on her every appearance on Johnny's show, when he threw to commercial, she would always says the same line "The band sound great tonight", Johnny would agree and that was their conversation. Nothing else. It was only when the camera rolled that they appeared to be close friends. Carson was like that.
In January 1986 Joan was offered her own talk show to launch in October 1986 on the new Fox network. Fox told her not to mention this to Johnny Carson at all otherwise the deal would be cancelled. It was a $15 million a year Fox deal, NBC were paying her around $2 million for guest hosting Tonight Show. So she kept quiet, said nothing to Johnny. When she appeared on his show in April 1986 he had no idea. One month later the big press conference happened. Johnny was shocked. She never told him at all. Never asked for advice. Not a word. She rung him the day before the press conference, as it had been leaked to the press and Johnny was told. Utter betrayal in his mind, and from May 7th 1986 until his death he never spoke with her again.

She couldn't say it here when talking about plastic surgery but at her stage show she said of some actress "If she gets another face lift she'll have a beard".
She would not be on the Tonight Show every week, and so with her appearances the public and Carson wanted to hear her usual material. This was the era before VCRs became the norm.
Joan was brilliant. I really miss her. The older she got, the funnier she was. No one could ever one up her unless she let them.
Joan never disappoints. Born to make people laugh. The world misses her so much.

Joan and Johnny had tremendous chemistry. I am so sorry they never made peace before Carson's death. You can tell how much he loved Joan on this show.
I know that's so heartbreaking. You can tell they really did like each other. I understand being upset or angry but that's really carrying a grudge!
At this stage in life, Rivers was a knock-out. Beautiful features, very alluring.
