  • This unique knot starts with a Turk's head base and adds a second layer to give it a woven look. The name of this knot comes from the Gauchos, essentially cowboys, of Argentina and South America. Traditionally made from leather and used as a bandana clasp or decorative accents on horse tack. Works great for multicolor handle wraps.

    Nicely done. Thank you for demonstrating this knot. Others have tried, but you have succeeded better than most.
    Production details that I like include good camera position and framing, good lighting and background, clear and concise narration (w/o excessive babble), and - most importantly - background music that doesn't distract the viewer.

    The gaucho knot is my favourite variation of the Turk’s head and I’ve tied dozens of them but most of us find it much easier to tie if the mandrel is horizontal as opposed to vertical.

    Thanks for taking the time to produce such a clear tutorial, it's going to take me some time to get the hang of the over and unders.

    👍🏼Thank you for posting this tutorial. Used this Gaucho Knot (750 paracord) on the handguard of a Rock Island Armory VR80 semi-auto shotgun for heat mitigation. Great knot for my application. Thanks again.
    🇺🇲Stay well. Go in peace.

    What is the name of the paracord "needle tool" and where can we get it?

      We call it a "paracord fid". For 550 paracord you will need a Type III fid. You can find them in our store. www.paracordplanet.com/tools/needles/

    Dude i really really like your videos but you seriously need to slow down with the weaving over under

      Completely agree. I have experience working with a variety of mediums, including paracord, but this video just frustrated the crap out of me. Good production value, poor on how to do the knot.

    I have been able to make this now thanking you for showing me how to ,but there is one thing that you are doing wrong and that is the way that you finish off your ends should both come out through the middle of the Turks head one on one side the other on the other side,ok.

    Seems to me you "learned" the 9L 7B Gaucho knot here from Paraguild. Same vertical orientation (nothing wrong with that, but it is easier on camera and the significant book on how to learn these books show them horizontally plus the flow of the movement is better) same moves, same omissions. The first time you follow the standing part up to the top you go out o2 which is important. Your presentation considering focus, colour and background is good. Also nice to see you have used the right sized mandrel, so the knot looks neat instead of a misshapen one. If you had researched the knot a bit deeper you may have made use of the splitting of the pairs in your presentation. In the end it is easier to understand a knot structurally than to just remember the moves. There are so many slightly similar knots. One could not remember them all. Just my 2 cents.

      Thanks for the thoughtful comment! You're totally right, the "splitting pairs" terminology is generally much easier to remember. On this particular example, the pairs didn't naturally rest against each other and so would have been more difficult to explain.

    • @MabelTyingTuts
      @MabelTyingTuts 3 роки тому

      @@ParacordPlanet It seems to me you might confuse "splitting the pairs" which are clearly visible here as they are lying exactly beside each other and "splitting the tracks" which you had to do when you tied the 5L 4B turkshead. It is such a pity that most people don't really try to understand these knots a bit more. It is so much more satisfactory.
