- In this tutorial I demonstrate how to tie a gaucho fan knot on a 7L6B turk's head.
The gaucho fan knot is one of the most practical interweaves that has many applications.
Enjoy the tutorial!

hi I have a question the gaucho knot that I know goes over two under two in both side of the knot and split the pairs diferent can it be that ii a diferent gaucho knot also call in Argentina Boton de orillo?thank you
Hey!
The gaucho with the over two on both sides is a proper gaucho knot. The gaucho fan knot is a gaucho knot on one side and a fan knot on the other. The proper gaucho is usually tied onto an odd part turk's head.
Hope that helps a bit!
Mark
thank you Mark for your response now I have it clear it is a very nice knot especially whit the two colors
It is! Plus it is easy to tie!

Forgive me, but i am new to this hobby. You are an great instructor. ! But what is the purpose of an Gaucho fan knot? What is it used for?
Hi and welcome!
The knot has many purposes. It works well as a wrap for spherical objects. It can be used as a decorative knot on handles (for example whip handles). There are a lot of uses really :).
Do scroll down through some of my projects and you can find a few examples of items made with similar knots.

Thank you Mark. ! I am going to subscribe. Phil.

Hi. Thanks for the tutorial. My son and I are trying to follow your guide but somehow we get lost. We'll watch it more times to understand it better. I have a question: how do you attach the needle to the cord? Is this a special needle? Thanks for your help... 😊
melt the end to a point and it screws on it is a tool called a fid
Using a pinned mandrel for my 7L6B Turk's head knot for the base with the following pattern:
1b
4t O
2b O
5t U-O
3b U-O
6t O-U-O
4b O-U-O
1t U-O-U-O
5b u*-o*-U-O-U-O (*= Skip til later)
2t u*-O-U-O-U-O
6b u*-O-U-O-U-O
3t U-O-U-O-U-O
1b
It might be easier for some people to tie the initial knot on a pinned mandrel then remove the pins to finish the knot.
