Opeth has been around since the mid 1990's...try listening to whole albums as they are concept albums...such as Still Life or Heritage or Watershed....I listened to most of their music while serving in Iraq.... Just the best
This live version is really good but Mikael’s growls on the Ghost Reveries studio album is just the best ever! It’s the Opeth album I come back to. It has so many memorable riffs. Ghost of perdition, the baying of the hounds, the grand conjuration are all masterpieces!
Some awesome Opeth songs are: The Moor (best Intro, best Song by them) Ghost of perdition (in my opinion it's like all they've done mixed in one song) Blackwater Park (dark as hell and beautiful at the same time) Deliverance (Best outro ever written)
The Moor is a good Song, but kind of overhyped IMO. Most Songs of Still life can keep up with it, many on My arms your hearse aswell as on Blackwater Park from this Era of Opeths discography. Still a great Song.
I have a confession. I have an addiction to people reacting to Opeth. But please do a performance from The Roundhouse Tapes if you're going to watch live, or Lamentations!
Brings back awesome memories of me cruising in my 2002 Subaru WRX back in the day hustling this album OVER AND OVER! I would fall asleep listening to Ghost Reveries (but I was born on Halloween, so figures). Sweet dreams ;)
Crazy the sound quality, and the fact that the band can play a studio worthy rendition of the song. The tightness of the playing, all in tempo and flowing today. The bassist is nuts.
As Mikkael (the mastermind/vocalist) did put it, when I last have seen Opeth live, back in December 2019: 'Harlequin Forest... difficult to play, a nightmate to sing" still one of my favorite songs ever. I do see a lot of recommendations, and I easily would sign them all, especially Ghost of Perdition and Delivwrance. But for me, beeing into Opeth for way too long to still be sane, the journey Opeth have had made through musical styles and even genres is way more interesting. I am in the sad and pittyfull situation, that the opeth songs I love outweight the songs, that I, well, don't have on repeat 🙃😇🤣 so I also would love to highlight newer Songs, like the devil's Orchard, Sorceress, eternal rains will come, all things will pass, lovelorn crime or next of kin. Those songs, I believe, do show some sort of evolution in the thing we call Opeth. Thanks a lot for your reaction, it really felt like my own firstreaction to this very song.
Oh wow never realized you hadn't reacted to Opeth. They're pretty awesome. Their live performances are as good or better than their studio stuff as well.
The incredible thing about Opeth is that they have this high level of musicianship throughout all their work. They have incredible cross-genre diversity in their songwriting too.
Seen them play a few times and Mikael Akerfeldt the vocalist and guitarist is hilarious and has a fun time interacting with audience unlike any frontman ever. Once, he ate a Big Mac on stage while the band improvised a song...a fan brought it to him during the show and he sat and ate it!!! Thanks, Opeth! In these crazy times, you are the light AND the joy!!!
Was lucky and got to see them live before the shutdown. This is such a killer song! Check out Bleak, Deliverance, & Ghost of Perdition for some more great songs!
been a fan of Opeth since the 1990a and I cannot listen to their songs with my eyes open. It was quite dangerous when I was driving to and from work in my convertible trying TO KEEP MY EYES OPEN. After all this time they are still my favorite and it warms my heart to see people introduced to Opeth and watch them share my joy.
A memory i have about the Ghost Reveries record is that when i bought the album, i opened the booklet and i started playing it. The first song, Ghost of Perdition, starts very calm with a clean guitar and then BOOM! Almost shat my pants, not gonna lie.
The whole Opeth catalogue is amazing. Harlequin Forest is one of my favorite, the atmosphere and progression of the song is something special. I don't know what to recommend because there are so many amazing Opeth tracks. You need to listen to quite a few tracks to get what this band sound is. Earlier Opeth is heavier, recent Opeth is more straight prog but I like both haha.
The album that got me into this band (for good, and I do mean I'm gonna be listening to them for the rest of my life) is Blackwater Park. Start there and listen to the whole damn thing from beginning to end if what you really want is to take the rabbit hole route. Because from that point, you won't want more Opeth, you'll NEED more Opeth. Done deal.
opeth is more addictive than crack. i can't even count how many times i've listened to an opeth album for weeks on end, then tell myself i need to listen to something else, only to go back to the same opeth album after 1 or 2 songs from something else. it is very. very difficult to cleanse opeth from your pallet and enjoy other music.
I've been enjoying the album since it came out and still listen to this track with the same enthusiasm. Pretty much the entire discography is great. This album and blackwater park are my favorites of the era. The newer stuff is different (and also still definitely opeth) but also very good, IMO. Listen to it all. The band's been on quite the journey, and every step is worth exploring.
Hahaha you're nowhere near the top of the mountain. This is staple Opeth, a musical journey through dark and light. I discovered them originally back with their song Lotus Eater from their Watershed album. From then on I was hooked. A good song to next listen to would be Deliverance or The Moor. Two masterpieces. Great video
You must do more Opeth for sure. Here are a few recommendations that you will surely see in other comments: Deliverance Blackwater Park Ghost Of Perdition Bleak Drapery Falls
@14:21 You should have seen Opeth open up for Dream Theater at the Fillmore Charlotte NC. Man what a show! Glad you found Opeth my man, it is a very deep yet fulfilling rabbit hole! Cheers fam!
Opeth is probably my favourite band of all time and I'm glad you enjoyed this. I second Stars Die with "Bleak" it's another masterpiece by them (though, to be fair, a lot of their songs are).
So much more Opeth to do lol. Bleak, Blackwater Park, WindowPane, Hope leaves from this same concert specifically. So much soul and passion in Hope Leaves solo. My favorite track has to be Bleak though.
Always like your genuine enthusiasm for music my dude. Opeth are an incredible band and you really can't go wrong with any of their songs from any albums. Not even the prog rock stuff from the recent years, though some may disagree.
You've finally discovered Opeth. Yes! OK, anything from the Still Life album. Face Of Melinda is has no growling vox, the opening track The Moor is absolute genius.
still life is amazing! it is my favorite opeth album, and very well could be my favorite album of all-time. still life is a perfect album, and tells a great story. mikael's solo in serenity painted death is on another level. moonlapse vertigo is also fantastic. that's the part of the story when the shit hits the fan!
Opeth has gone more toward the prog end of the spectrum over the last ten years or so, they were originally much heavier. Mikael the vocalist has really stepped up his game on the clean vocals, but unfortunately his harsh vocals have sounded really forced and grunting since 2012 or so. I don't think he growls much at all anymore. To really hear him in peak form I recommend "Deliverance" from the Shepherds Bush Empire concert in London, 2003. This is classic Opeth and classic Mikael.
Yeah I like the earlier stuff better. They were more driven and creative then. I find Prog boring. Always have since it started (Yes; Genesis, etc) Never did anything but bore me. The weak drug free boozed up version of Acid Rock which I LOVED. See The Doors, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Velvet Underground, P Funk, and the Grateful Dead 1968 to 1971 and then again Blues for Allah (75) to 1979. The second era is actually pretty proggy but never dull. I preferred Captain Beefheart and Zappa, (Hot Rats '69) to mid (Bongo Fury, 76). I LOVE Bach and Mozart but that is not Rock. Rock needs energy! I prefer 1st decade Slayer to Prog any day and it was they who inspired Opeth at their start!
Opeth is AWESOME!!!! Prog/Death Metal. A fan since the Orchid LP. Every album is solid. Gotta request Blackwater Park... or anything else by them. every tune is an adventure, an exercise in amazement. Cheers!
Opeth... the only group on Earth who manages to have two symbiotic songs into one... one of notes everybody does hear, and another one made of ghost notes, right under the skin of the same song. Whoever can hear that layer of their songs can truly appreciate Opeth music in its totality! Nobody like them ever, utterly no one like Opeth!!!
Great vid dude! Opeth is my absolute favorite band and their later albums are a lot more progressive and he hasn't done the growls since the (terrific) album Watershed, but they are still great just different. From their later work I would recommend their latest album 'In Cauda Venenum,' but I'd suggest listening to it AFTER a few of their other classic albums like 'Ghost of Perdition', 'My Arms Your Hearse,' Deliverance and Damnation and definitely the aforementioned 'Watershed' albums (honestly they are all amazing in their own way. I like these reaction videos dude, and I hope you enjoy going down the Opeth rabbit hole! Cheers
He's making *the* Opeth face from the get go. The Opeth face is when you hear Opeth from the first or one of the first times and you just eargasm the fuck out.
Glad to see you finally getting to Opeth. One of my favorite bands though I prefer all the albums from Watershed and earlier. I'm not as much into their newer sounds. This is my favorite song though they have so many great songs. EDIT: They are not as technical as Dream Theater but I think their composition is superior. Dream Theater is one of my top three favorite bands. Opeth is another one. I describe Opeth like eating a 5 course meal. The song is broken up into different flavored entrees that tell a story when combined together.
If you dug this track, make sure to check out the Ghost Reveries album in its entirety. Truly a masterpiece; especially the opening track "Ghost of Perdition".
Listening directly to Harlequin Forest without first listening to the first half of the album is jarring to me. My head just go "wait wait why are we here already? this isnt right." Its like watching a movie but you start in the middle or like someone wake you up in the middle of rem sleep. I have always listen to Ghost reveries start to finish.
It took a very long time for me to connect with Opeth, around 10 years, but when once the click happened, I didn't hear a sound of something slotting into place but of flood gates opening and a torrent of understanding rushing in. Opeth are incredible! The frontman, Mikael Akerfeldt, is best friends with Steven Wilson (formerly of Porcupine Tree) and the two immensely influenced each other's work over the years. Steven produced 5 Opeth albums (Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation, Heritage and Pale Communion), while Opeth strongly influenced PT's later albums (In Absentia, and Fear Of A Blank Planet, to name a couple). Another band worth checking out is KATATONIA, whose frontman Jonas Renkse is another best friend of Mikael's and Blackwater Park was actually partly recorded at Jonas' house. In fact, Mike filled in for Jonas on vocals in 1996, and recorded "Brave Murder Day" (their second album) with them. That era of Katatonia's career though is radically different from everything else they've written since because Jonas fucked up his voice so much from screaming badly between 1992-1996. The third album "Discouraged Ones" showcased a permanent switch to clean singing on his part, and Mikael also provided backing vocals on this album and vocal production on their 4th album "Tonight's Decision". Anyway, one Katatonia song I recommend (out of the many great ones that they have lol) is "Forsaker"
Bro, do some more Opeth reactions and I will gladly subscribe. Funny that you mention that you haven't heard anything this tight musically since Dream Theater, Opeth and Dream Theater are my 2 favorite metal bands. Both very progressive but totally apples and oranges in comparison. Opeth is heavier and darker, very moody, more bleak and anguished sounding while DT is vibrantly bright and flashy, oozing technicality on their instruments. More Opeth songs to check out would definitely be Blackwater Park & Deliverance, both are title tracks off their respective albums. I have a feeling you will find many of Opeth's songs to be "masterpieces".
For Opeth, it's a mix of very melodic and very, very frigging heavy. You'll get the whole range, often violently. I highly recommend their tracks Windowpane, Demon of the Fall, and Porcelain Heart.
Great introduction to Opeth. Ghost of Perdition may be the best technical song on this album, it is also an assault on the senses to the new Opeth listener. I'd check out a few more before moving to Ghost of Perdition to truly appreciate it's beauty.
If you want to experience something at the same level or even better then react to Ne Obliviscaris and their song “And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope “ BUT THE LIVE VERSION FROM COLORADO 2016! Thank me later!
Great reaction. You cannot go wrong with Opeth. If i may suggest to try "Burden" as well, another awesome song. But their song are almostall that epic.
Opeth is my favorite band, and you're going to get great requests that can last for months to come. Since that community takes care of itself I'd like to take the chance on suggesting Caligula's Horse. Much like Dream Theater but I'd like to say much less cheesy and adapted to the modern musicscape. They have many great songs, most of their fans would suggest Graves, which is a brilliant track, maybe one to build up to, but for it's runtime, I think Dream the Dead is one of the greatest composed songs in recent history.
I'm sorry to drag politics into this because obviously it's not the right place. We all know what's going on right now, right? To see this like/dislike ratio and an ARMY of white prog/metal dudes giving a black guy their most personal musical recommendations in essay forms just made my day. It really did. Especially in contrast of what's playing on the news all day long. To be a true music nerd you already have to be an open minded escapist and therefore absolutely colorblind in the first place. Again, sorry to have this leaked into these comments, I just wanted to thank you all for making the day better for me, that's all.
UA-cam served me up this video probably because I listen to a lot of Opeth on here and I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed this track! It's one of my faves, and I'd say is kind of like the ideal form of what Opeth has to offer; rollercoasters of fast and heavy, mixed in with chill bluesy interludes. That whole album (Ghost Reveries) is what got me into them in the first place and it's fucking amazing. Their album Blackwater Park is comparable, and probably most folks will tell you its better and it's got some bangers for sure but taken as a whole I think is a little bit weaker. Don't let folks tell you that their new shit is not as good either! It's different in tone, Mikael doesn't do the growling vocals anymore, but they are still putting out excellent albums. Listen to the song "Cusp of Eternity" or "Heart in Hand" and then tell me they don't still kick ass!!
Great choice. From the greatest Hard Rock band of all time (Led Zeppelin) to perhaps the best of the past two decades, Opeth. Good work man! Great musicianship. At some point you MUST do Parliament Funkadelic who were rightly Zep's favorite band at the time (see 'The Crunge'). Check out the 1976 Texas Gig. (I have the entire gig saved on my PC but it is on U tube asl well. We want the Funk with the Jackson brothers and Sly Stone on stage at the end. It is the only concert as perfect as good as TSRTS by Zeppelin or Woodstock. That's how AWESOME it is. No filler just thriller. Not one weak or even meh tune. just driven perfection. Opeth at their best are also driven perfection!
Hey loved the reaction! I think a great piece for you to check out would be "Bleak" from the Blackwater Park album. The atmosphere of the tracks on that album really take you somewhere else. Think you'd enjoy it mate! Thanks for the video :)
This band is my second favourite band, very close to my number 1; Megadeth. Sometimes I prefer Opeth mor than Megadeth but that's beside the point. You should really get into more Opeth.
Reached the mountain??!!?? You just took your first step onto the path!!!!
God I love this song! I have so much shit to do today but I can't stop listening to this Masterpiece.
Love this song. Curious what happen to my ice nine kill song i saw you posted it then it was gone. Copyright or something ?
Opeth has been around since the mid 1990's...try listening to whole albums as they are concept albums...such as Still Life or Heritage or Watershed....I listened to most of their music while serving in Iraq.... Just the best

You should react to ghost of perdition, its as good as this one with alot of riff
Have you listened to the whole of this concert yet? Its incredible. Love your channel. Greetings from Scotland
Opeth - ghost of perdition live at red rocks. This is so good
True!
Opeth is the most unbelievable band of all time....my all time favorite...
Some awesome Opeth songs are:
The Moor (best Intro, best Song by them)
Ghost of perdition (in my opinion it's like all they've done mixed in one song)
Blackwater Park (dark as hell and beautiful at the same time)
Deliverance (Best outro ever written)
I've heard blackwater park
Grubby Canine killer Album/Song
I have to agree with the moor. Amazing. Windowpane ls awesome
The Moor is a good Song, but kind of overhyped IMO. Most Songs of Still life can keep up with it, many on My arms your hearse aswell as on Blackwater Park from this Era of Opeths discography. Still a great Song.
Bleak is my favorite. Its brutal and dark but gets sublime in the middle
My favorite Opeth song has always been "Bleak". Steven Wilson from the band Porcupine Tree also sings on that track and adds a cool element to it.
Since I just got hip to Porcupine Tree I'll be checking that out tonight!
Hell yeah Porcupine Tree is just fucking..amazing
Bleak is the best song ever written in my opinion. My all time favourite
Bleak is amazing. Nothing less.
I see you sir are a man of culture too!
Nonstop goosebumps. That's basically Opeth.
The middle section of this song is just absolutely gorgeous.
I agree. This is a work of art.
Welcome to the great Opeth family.
Opeth - Deliverance (good gracious what an adventure and damn that outtro!. it's legendary. i need a 10hr loop of that :) )
All of their songs are this massive! Please listen to more you won’t regret it!!!
One of my favourite Opeth songs. Love your reaction to this brother!
I have a confession.
I have an addiction to people reacting to Opeth. But please do a performance from The Roundhouse Tapes if you're going to watch live, or Lamentations!
Ghost of Perdition
Ghost of Perdition
Ghost of Perdition
Epic masterpiece!

Opeth: "search in the darkness"
TNT's room:
...
get's dark
Brings back awesome memories of me cruising in my 2002 Subaru WRX back in the day hustling this album OVER AND OVER! I would fall asleep listening to Ghost Reveries (but I was born on Halloween, so figures). Sweet dreams ;)
Opeth ALWAYS goes in.... doesn't matter what song. They're fantastic all around.
Yes!!! Every song I’ve listened to is sooo good!
Crazy the sound quality, and the fact that the band can play a studio worthy rendition of the song. The tightness of the playing, all in tempo and flowing today. The bassist is nuts.

Oh wow never realized you hadn't reacted to Opeth. They're pretty awesome. Their live performances are as good or better than their studio stuff as well.
It’s really fun to watch someone try to nod along to the closing riffs for the first time 😂
The incredible thing about Opeth is that they have this high level of musicianship throughout all their work. They have incredible cross-genre diversity in their songwriting too.

He even reimbursed the guy for the big mac too if i remember correctly
Was lucky and got to see them live before the shutdown.
This is such a killer song! Check out Bleak, Deliverance, & Ghost of Perdition for some more great songs!
I fell down their rabbit hole last year…quickly rose into my all time favorite bands.
Great reaction Sir!
Black Rose Immortal is another highly recommended Opeth song, 20 minutes of awesomeness.
been a fan of Opeth since the 1990a and I cannot listen to their songs with my eyes open. It was quite dangerous when I was driving to and from work in my convertible trying TO KEEP MY EYES OPEN. After all this time they are still my favorite and it warms my heart to see people introduced to Opeth and watch them share my joy.
This and Hessian Peel are my favourite Opeth tracks! Always love seeing a first time reaction. Thank you for this 😁
Opeth is awesome
React to “ the drapery falls” and “the moor”
A memory i have about the Ghost Reveries record is that when i bought the album, i opened the booklet and i started playing it. The first song, Ghost of Perdition, starts very calm with a clean guitar and then BOOM!
Almost shat my pants, not gonna lie.
You should react to Opeth"s "The Leper Affinity" They played in in Houston a couple of months ago just before covid 19 hit.....was incredible!
I saw that concert in Nashville during that tour and boy did they blow my socks off jesus.
God I love that! How they spread the word by mouth to him! This is camraderie. This is brotherhood!
The whole Opeth catalogue is amazing. Harlequin Forest is one of my favorite, the atmosphere and progression of the song is something special. I'd say The Moor, Isolation Years, Burden, Windowpane
Yes!!! Do Ghost of Perdition next. Studio version so you can hear all of the little effects
The album that got me into this band (for good, and I do mean I'm gonna be listening to them for the rest of my life) is Blackwater Park. Start there and listen to the whole damn thing from beginning to end if what you really want is to take the rabbit hole route. For me, that album was Damnation.

Great video
"They went in on this" - That's just opeth man.... they only know one way TO go. Seeing them live was like a damned marathon.
that is the truth, brother! opeth are not for the faint hearted.
You must do more Opeth for sure. Here are a few recommendations that you will surely see in other comments:
Deliverance
Blackwater Park
Ghost Of Perdition
Bleak
Drapery Falls
@14:21 You should have seen Opeth open up for Dream Theater at the Fillmore Charlotte NC. Man what a show! Glad you found Opeth my man, it is a very deep yet fulfilling rabbit hole! Cheers fam!
I was just listening to them in the gym today. I love this band.
Opeth is probably my favourite band of all time and I'm glad you enjoyed this. I second Stars Die with "Bleak" it's another masterpiece by them (though, to be fair, a lot of their songs are).
I've heard this song atleast 60 times. I still get cold shivers at the 10:15 mark every time
So much more Opeth to do lol.
Yes Opeth!!! I love this band so much.
You've got to do Animals as Leaders Live! And please more Opeth!
fun fact: back in the MYSPACE DAYS, I got to tell Mikael that I wanted the song "HARVEST" played at mt funeral. :)

Yeah I like the earlier stuff better. They were more driven and creative then. I find Prog boring. Always have since it started (Yes; Genesis, etc) Never did anything but bore me. The weak drug free boozed up version of Acid Rock which I LOVED. easily one of my favorites by these guys !!
Ye, I second with the others, The Moor is a masterpiece. As is this song.
If you loved this one that much you should go for "Ghost of Perdition" or "The Moor" next.
Listening to Opeth is like a journey, just when you think the song has settled, it just changes completely!
Great reaction man! :)
You cant decide wich opeth song is the best all thiere songs are masterpeices
Trey, you are the man.
Opeth is AWESOME!!!! Prog/Death Metal. A fan since the Orchid LP. Every album is solid. Gotta request Blackwater Park... or anything else by them. every tune is an adventure, an exercise in amazement. Cheers!

Really went in on this song, the whole album is like this
He's making *the* Opeth face from the get go.
The Opeth face is when you hear Opeth from the first or one of the first times and you just eargasm the fuck out.
Mikael Akerfeldt makes THE funniest stage announcements. It's worth going to Opeth shows for those alone.
Glad to see you finally getting to Opeth. One of my favorite bands though I prefer all the albums from Watershed and earlier. I'm not as much into their newer sounds. The Outro is one of the best in Metal!!😮

Anyway, one Katatonia song I recommend (out of the many great ones that they have lol) is "Forsaker"
Enjoy your journey my friend, Opeth is awesome. \m/
This made me chiver down my spine!
Opeth and Dream Theater are my 1 and 2 in terms of metal music so it's cool that this guy mentions DT as Opeth's contemporary.
Opeth are amazing 😎👍 great reaction
U can React to all their music library 🤘... windowpane, Deliverence and Ghost of perdition gives me majory gosebumps
Opeth is amazing. Your reaction was great. Like me, you were sucked in by their total discipline to their craft.
Good clean vocals are not easy. Good death growls are not easy. Yet he can somehow switch between them on the fly.
Definitely do more reactions on Opeth
After doing some more of their songs you should check out Master's apprentices by OPETH
Windowpane is sublime. Also Blackwater Park
Opeth is pretty awesome
Check out the Still Life album.
Dude, Im there!
So much this Ne Obliviscaris is mind blowing
Great reaction. You cannot go wrong with Opeth. If i may suggest to try "Burden" as well, another awesome song. But their song are almostall that epic.
Harvest, Demon of the Fall, The Drapery Falls, Black Rose Immortal (20 minute + song)
Cool reaction !
Heir apparent is one of my favorite Opeth songs. I would highly suggest checking it out.
Aww shit, he's jumped into the Opeth hole. Check out "The Apostle in Triumph" "Twilight is my Robe" "Black Rose Immortal"
This is the kind of post I like to read. I appreciate this.
I think the hole Opeth resides in must be from a bigger animal than just a rabbit
One of the most deep & powerful growl in metal
For some more Miki death voice style :
BLOODBATH - SO YOU DIE (wacken carnage live)
Ghost of Perdition Live at Red Rocks! lets goooo!
Mendez carries this song live.
Deliverance, Baying of the Hounds, Burden, The Lotus Eater, Coil, Porcelain Heart
They are...the treeees!!
Awesome reaction!
Lord bless you man
This band is my second favourite band, very close to my number 1; Megadeth. Sometimes I prefer Opeth mor than Megadeth but that's beside the point. You should really get into more Opeth.
