- Let's drive our 1 ton Land Rover Discovery 2! In this video we polish out a lot of our swap problems and discover a few more. This is the first of many test runs that we will have in the Discovery but I wish we could have done more in this episode. However there will be lots of opportunity to see it driving in the coming weeks! Until then enjoy the last few videos of our 1 ton axle swap!

#4x4 #landrover #axleswap
This entire project is all just pure, first-rate, engineering.
Awesome stuff!
Thanks man 🤘
👍👍👍 Three thumbs up for "Family Day"!!
Big milestone for the Disco!! Looking good man!
Thanks!
I just put the final touches on the off-road camper build, still have some stuff to do inside but it's 90% done...
Going to try to post the video tomorrow. I really appreciate all you do for the fabrication and off-road community. It was nice to have advice from You, Matt, Mad Matt & Fab Rats on this build. Thanks again brother
Dude that thing is sick!!!!
Thanks!
You, Fab Rats and Matts offroad recovery are all building dream rigs at the moment. How cool would it be if all 3 of you get together and go for a wheel!! 🤘
A 35 minute video is nowhere near too long when the info and project is this awesome. I’d watch an hour video any day. The LR is awesome and I can’t wait to see it finished! Good work!
I also run progressive shock bumpers from Eibach. They definitely work!! My fox shocks use red loctite for the lower mount. You have to put the shaft in a soft vice and heat the end with a torch to loosen the loctite. Awesome to see it moving!
I got a 98 Cherokee have a d30 up front fully trussed going to 4.88 gears arb locker. Rear Ford 8.8 with Yukon locker 4.88 gears. Running 33s right now but going to 35 and I also have a super duty 60 front and sterling 10.5 rear! Going to do 5.38 gears fully locked been building them for a little now but waiting to get everything ready to do a cage, one tons, and coil carriers! Your videos are a huge help! Thanks for all the free content.
That's the most badass landrover i have seen. Never cared for land rovers before I saw yours
Thanks man 👍
Just went back and watched this series. You killed it with this build, as always. Nice work Nate, keep ‘em coming!
Man I love your videos. Might not know it but my buddy that literally just got into 4x4ing has been watching your videos pretty intently. I gotta say. His Ford Ranger truggy is coming along with your help. 🤘🏻
Honestly, I don't know what I would have done without this channel - it helps me so much building my zok! Keep up the great work!
So glad you got the disco moving. Those drive lines are very strange but you seem to have solved any issues 👍🏻👍🏻
So impressed that you have done everything yourself and you can drive it on the street without it falling apart
Lol don't speak to soon! But if it comes home on a tow truck one day i will certainly share the experience with you guys 🤣
You’re killing it Nate
Thanks brother 👊
My 2001 SportTrac thanks you for planning out it’s future build. Great stuff, Nate!
You do some incredible work, man. Respect
14:30 you put a joint spacer inside on one side of the joint and a spacer outside of the joint on the other. just double check in case. love the build!
I did! The front two are different then the rear to clear the bracket 👍
@@DirtLifestyle oh okay i had to be sure lol 👌🏻
Now this is what I think a land rover should look like. Great job man.
Thanks buddy!
Awesome Nate. Your Disco is looking good and I am sure you will get everything ironed out.
Family time is the most important thing you can do...
You've come so far on the Disco, won't be long and you'll be out driving it everywhere, looking awesome brother 👍
Keep your tires aimed towards the ground and your eyes toward the Lord 😊👍
Nate. I've enjoyed the series. When you swap your master cylinder please white board the math behind the relationship between brake piston and master piston in that you trade volume for pressure. Too many people think a bigger master cylinder will give increased braking, but in fact you get less pedal travel and less clamping force with stock brakes.
Good to see it rolling
That rig looks so freaking awesome!! Great work Nate!
It's crazy how excitement can overcome knowledge. It's so easy to get in the moment of near completion and overlook some simple things. Love the channel and content.
Ahhhh. Love those midnight “I dunno if this is gonna work yet” test drives lol
that rig looks amazing. can't wait for the tire carrier build.
Thanks!
WOW looks amassing Great job
I worked over 25 years in the power generation business. I supervised the overhaul of turbines and generators for about every major electric company. there are several sensors similar to the ABS sensors on cars. I don't know if they operate on the same principle as the automotive sensors. We would set the turbine and generator sensors that monitored vibration, rotor speed (RPM) and rotor position at 10 mV Distance from the tone ring using a Fluke meter. This worked out to between 0.030" and 0.040". Setting the ABS sensors at 0.003" may be way too close. Other than that, great build on the Disco. Love your fab content.
The disco is looking great!! congrats!!
Thank you!
@@DirtLifestyle if you ever come to cabo in Baja , let me know I’ll take you wheeling down here!
Thumbs up for the family. At the end of the day, we do all this for them, on way or the other. Great vid, go have fun and be safe.
The Disco looks amazing on the ground. Love the project.
Thanks!
I love your creativity Nate! I’m digging the build. Enjoy the family day!
So awesome to finally see it move on it's own!!
Loving it Nate! Thanks for the content! I'm making progress on my Rubicon axle swap! This is just more inspiration!
Your hard work pays off. 👍
I love this thing! Can't wait to see it one day! Well done man, your knowledge of building and fabricating is very inspiring.
Nate - that Land Rover looks really good! Nice work!
Looking great 👍🏻 Nate! If you run into too many issues with the drive angles, I think you can get a one ton axle off of a defender or 101 with the proper offset of the differential. Cheers
I am also pumped for you man! What a rig! So nice!
Great video production quality! Almost like watching a network produced channel!
Thank you!
That thing looks so cool! Can’t wait to see it off road 👍👍
Nice job on that axles swamp!!!! here in Portugal on that kind of swamp, usually they change the gearbox using a Nissan or a Toyota to correct the angle of the rear transmission. For the front bump stop, there are a kit that use to put dual shock, you could build the brackets but instead of using the shock, you use a hydraulic bump stop! :)
The disco is coming together nice. Cant wait to see the tire carrier.
The internal struggle we all have to make: how far to drive the project car that is not up to date on registration/insurance and brakes might not work the way we want them...haha. Very cool Nate! Glad you got a family day in.
You have all the skills, tools, knowledge, and shop space that I wish I had...
big ups for the family day nate, would rather see you do this for ages rather than get burnt out without spending time with your family! sick video!
Great build . Personally my thoughts , as I was thinking to myself watching you as your first video with the Dana 60 swap , was I would go with either the stock ‘case and build the axles accordingly OR what I did many years ago... Dana 300 with the twin stick conversion. I used a plate made by a company in New Zealand . Strong, extremely reliable and plentiful with parts if need be . Mine still runs and the current owner still cruises with it, across country. Good luck !👍🏼
Very nice build
Congratulations on the disco driving!!!!! Man never had i thought a disco would look great on 37s. Shame on me!! Excited to see this thing be 💯% done. Great job!!
My lada Niva 1.7, have dual cv´s. much more smooth that u joints. Great work
Outstanding work! Cant wait to see it on the trails
I love the look of the disco.
Me too! It's all coming together 👍
Congrats on completion!!
Thanks man!
Thank you for another fantastic video...your work is Excellent!!
Had an 04 back in the day until it started having issues always wanted to get another one that’s fully build inside and out but hard to find one and don’t have the time to do it myself. Out of any cars Iv owned even some of my 100k+ cars trucks the rover was always one of my favorite and funnest suvs to own.
I like how clearly you describe everything new subscriber here.
Thank you! Welcome to the channel!
Wow it's an amazing upgrade.
Watching that Evolution chop saw cut through that steel that easy makes me want one SO bad.
I truly love this thing. Worth the investment for sure if you are in the market. I feel like a salesmen lol they give me no money I just enjoy the saw
I appreciate the honest review. Evolution should definitely give you a kick back for how many saws you’ve probably sold for them. Haha
it looks good. the stance looks good. can’t wait to see how it does on the trails. great video
Absolutely love it I’m wanting a 4 seater 4x4 here soon family is growing and you’ve shown some decent options here. Love the videos.
Hey folks! I had some questions about the mighty vac system I used to bleed the brakes. This is a combination of a fluid evacuator pump and a one man hand brake bleeder kit for the fitting on bleeder. I put the parts you need in an Amazon shoping cart. This is a great combo that I use often for more than just breeding brakes.
Click the link to see what I used www.amazon.com/shop/dirtlifestylenate
Great job Nate love it looks great can't wait too see you out wheeling in it keep up the great work .
AS usual a well put together story Nat, as for those brakes i have been down this road before and the issue i found was generating enough line pressure, for the win go and fit a hydraulic booster and you'll never look back
This thing is so badass. Super happy for you!
Thanks buddy!
That looks so good on those tires/wheels with that ride height
Well it’s not finished yet and it’s looking good already 😃👍
This thing looks great Nate, Gotta be a great feeling to get it out of the shop!
That ROVER looks SICK!! I really like your thought process on everything and how meticulous you are with every part of your build!
Thanks for the response! I’m looking at transmission and t-case options. I do have the HP Dana 30. For now I will be staying at the 35” tire range. As I get more wheeling trips in I will look at upgrading sizes and front axle.
Machine artist!
Good job!👏
Awesome job sir !
👍🏻
Definitely my kinda life style 🤠🍻
The lt230 transfer on your disco is 1.2:1 ratio. The next is 1.4:1 that comes in defenders.
Alternatively.. Ashcroft transmissions in the UK have multiple other options. Including close to 1:1.
Also, these transfer cases are pretty strong actually. Plenty of Ls swapped defenders around with the factory transfer case.
The diffs are the weakest link in a landrover. And you’ve fixed that 👌
Im still in the process
Otherwise. Cheers for another video mate 💪
Later 🤙
Nice job, Nate! It looks great. I'm sure it won't take you too long to get the other stuff dialed in to where you're happy.
Looks great. I love the disco i and ii looks
Man really looks good you did a good job
Thanks dude!
I have a D2 myself and I really admire yours, most Discos are very similar in terms of mods, mine included. Yours is unique and it's great.
Thanks man I appreciate it. 👍
Love your vids. I cant set to be notified when you post new vids because you have your content set for kids
Dang, I want this disco, and at this ride height! Looks SICK @ a low CG stance this way (I know there's not much up travel, I just love this aesthetic)
just found your channel - great, great stuff! excellent engineering and beautifully done filming! congratulations and thank you!
Diggin the groovy music this week disco🕺 for the disco.
🕺
Loving the music in this video. Awesome
It almost looks like you’ll hit full compression on the front springs before you hit the shock bump stops.
Also, to another comment, the LT230SE transfer case has a 1.21:1 high, and a 3.2:1 low ratio.
Build looks awesome!
Finally! A Land Rover really worth!
Good looking Disco!
Oh man that's an exciting moment, and good grief is your work great inspiration! Looking forward to what comes next :D
Love it well done Nate !!!
Thanks man!
I'm very interested to see how happy you are with the AWD and the D60 joints in the front. I have a similar setup under my Land Cruiser, and I didn't like how the U-joints felt, particularly when accelerating from a stop while turning. I ended up doing a part-time conversion to the transfer case to solve it, rather than putting in CV axleshafts.
I'll keep watching, loving how it's turning out for you!
This is something I have been thinking about since the beginning of this project. I would prefer to use RCVs but at 3500 bucks for the pair of shafts I couldn't justify the expense for a vehicle that is intended to haul camping gear lol. Time will tell how much I end up feeling in the wheel
Looks great congrats getting moving
Easy to change ratio in the LT230, kits from ashcroft-transmissions or synchrogearboxes in the UK, ashcroft also has a good ratio calculator set up for land rovers on their web page
Looks awesome Nate. Love the stance. Consider building a twin tyre carrier for the rear, one swing out arm that can carry a tyre or fuel/gear (to optimise the space). Also, have you considered incorporating a small air or water tank into the rear bar? There’s typically lots of unused space behind that plate etc..
I have alot of ideas that I have never seen before. More details soon 👍
Hey Nate, just watching the new video... great progress so far. With regard to the shock bumpstops, it may be possible for you to cast the poly bushes around the lower eye using a simple mould. Would make the bumpstop homogeneous and not reliant on hose clamps to hold it together.
Talk to Kris at ‘Redwood Plastics & Rubber’ in Langley, he’s made custom poly parts for his custom ZJ build, can also find him on ‘4Low BC’ FB page 😉
This is a good idea. I actually know some folks that could point me in the right direction on how to do this. And the hose clamp was only temporary lol
Hind sight is a mother trucker. I've made mistakes by blowing through jobs. Slow and steady as she goes. Other than that Great video as always. Glad that you owned up to your mistakes.
Congrats man, big moment!
Hey Nate you can try a hot knife to glue those bump stops back together. Great videos I've been watching since bleepin keep up the great content
Thanks man 👍
Looks good 😎👍
Freaking love this channel.
🤘
I can’t wait to see your tire carrier. I have this crazy idea of making a carbon fiber rear door on my Disco 1 to lose weight.
Olá boa tarde galera...
