    Just rolled up my first 2024 character in Foundry with this guide as an additional help. I found you can also go to the Compendium, click on Player Handbook, and click on Character Creation in Chapter 2. There is a special "Building Your Character In Foundry" box that shows you how to get started from a blank character sheet. Everything from the classes (starting equipment, spells, etc.) is easily draggable to the character sheet and will go to the right spot. So far, so good!

      Oh, that's neat. Didn't see that on my skip through.

    Love your videos. I think you are the only person making videos on the new books in foundry at the moment. Hard to find any others unless my search terms suck haha. Keep going!

    I did all three, hardcopy, DND Beyond, and foundry. I actually like the foundry version the best. Links there are better. Dragging from PHB to character in foundry is pretty cool. There are a lot of little fiddly issues I've noticed. I'm sure these will get fixed over time or modules will be updated that will fix them.

    Also a cool module to help with character creation is actor studio, you can setup the compendium to be specifically used and its another way of making actors which i found cool

      No actually played with that. Thanks for the tip - will check it out.

    PHB is quite pretty. Nice work WotC.

    I wonder what Character creation looks like.

      We'll take a look at that soon 😊

      In my opinion, it's really easy if you buy the player's handbook in foundry. You can drag your species, background and class into your character sheet, and it then does ask you the questions what options you want out of them. I'm already playing with 4.0 and the book and with minimum mods, but it works perfectly.

    Awesome. If we have the digital PHB 2024 paid version in DNDBeyond, is there a way to add the 2024PHB module without paying again an additional 29.99$?

    • @clay_golem
      @clay_golem  2 місяці тому +1

      No, not really. Which is a pain in the butt.
      The DDBI (DnDBeyond Importer) mod will enable you to bring over most of the 2024 "items" (Classes, spells, species, etc.), which is very good, but not quite as smooth and useful as having a Foundry version of the Handbook. We're in a strange position of choosing where to purchase our resources now - DnDBeyond, or Foundry, because no one wants to pay twice! (except me, because I wanted a physical copy (you get a free DnDBeyond digital version) and a Foundry copy).
      A little old, but mostly correct still, here's a video on DDBI Mod: ua-cam.com/video/-9a_PXePZI0/v-deo.html

    I will probably another year before touching that. Wondering what all errata they will still fix. But you never know 😉

    Hey CG. Thanks for the video. One thing that I noticed is that one can still play D&D 2014 with v4 of the D&D engine? I am confused because I thought that the changes in the engine itself made modifications to the 2014 game mechanics. How does the D&D System V4 distinguish from when you want to play 2014 and 2024?

    • @clay_golem
      @clay_golem  3 місяці тому +1

      The 2014/2024 differences are purely in the "item" that you use. Want the 2014 Barbarian version? Just make sure that's the skill/ability/feat you add to the character.

    • @mcubas76
      @mcubas76 3 місяці тому

      @@clay_golem that’s good to know, but wouldn’t upgrading replace all my 2014 SRD items with the 2024 SRD items? I guess I could make a copy of all 2014 items to another folder and use that after upgrade, right?

    • @clay_golem
      @clay_golem  3 місяці тому +1

      @@mcubas76 Sort of. It's a bit messy.
      If you import from DnDBeyond with DDBI, you can choose, in theory. And if you build a 2014 character in DDB, it'll import that character with 2014 abilities/spells.
      I believe the SRD in 4.0 is ONLY the 2024 stuff.
      But you could easily stick all your 2014 stuff into your own Compendium mod, so it's "safe", move to 4.0 and install your Compendium - and there you have all your 2014 items.
      It's a little messy though. Partly why the advice is to wait before moving over.

    • @mcubas76
      @mcubas76 3 місяці тому

      @@clay_golem yeah. I think I’ll just lock everything up and stay with D&D 3.3.1. As long as everything keeps working fine and CPR keeps updating, I don’t feel any need to move over to 4.

    Are there any breaking changes to the rules?

    • @clay_golem
      @clay_golem  3 місяці тому +1

      Breaking? Not that I've seen really. But we'll only really find that out through Play-Testing. There are a few changes that make existing characters no longer work in their current form, which is annoying, but then those characters were not built for the 2024 rules, so...

  • @dragonan906
    @dragonan906 3 місяці тому

    When you talk about the "old 3.5 rules" do you mean the 2014 5ed rules, right? Not 3.5ed D&D, right?

    • @clay_golem
      @clay_golem  3 місяці тому

      Could swear I just replied to this... Probably didn't save it.
      Nope, sometimes I am referring all the way back to D&D3.5 or 2nd Ed. Although at 2:12 in this video I did refer to 3.5 SRD, when I meant the Foundry D&D 3.3 SRD.... Sorry for the confusion.
      Old brain and all that.

  • @EvilDustMan
    @EvilDustMan 3 місяці тому

    Do you mean 5e? I was all excited that there was a 4e revival.

    • @clay_golem
      @clay_golem  3 місяці тому +2

      Oh, yes this get confusing. The 4.0 here is referring to the D&D games engine version in Foundry. That game engine version is for D&D 3.5 2014 OR the new 2024 edition.
      I don't talk about 4e, as it make me throw-up in my mouth 😆

    Yea. I stupidly updated without realizing it was THIS update now nothing works. Thankfully my players are all so new they won't notice the difference.

      Do you know how to roll-back? You can. Might be worth it if you're in pain from lack of mods.
