Laura used her genuine mom voice. Not even like a playful, joking type of mom voice, like that's how she yells at Ronin when he's getting into something he shouldn't. She used THAT voice with Sam.
@@AnInsaneOstrich I imagine she had to use that voice to stop Travis from burning down the house and salting the ruins.
It totally is and that's what I LOVE about this bit.
This is NOT the first time Laura has pulled out the mom voice. She has had it long before Ronin was born. The funny thing is that they all fear her, but Sam has an immunity because he has courted death by Luara Bailey for years. Occasionally her sheer wrath can still shake him, but only temporarily.

@@gingerlicious3500 technically it was the espresso, the yogurt, and the absinthe (especially since real absinthe can kill you and not just in the long term liver cancer way)
I think Laura was genuinely concerned that Sam was going to poison himself. Listen to the panic in her voice when she tells Sam to stop drinking.
Last I remember her screaming like that, Beau was about to be eaten by a Remorhaz
I think everyone watching was thinking the same thing. When he said it was real absinthe I was like "DUDE, YOUR LIVER"!

My favorite part of this whole bit is that the shaker just never runs out of space. He pours like a whole beer in there and it still doesn't overflow? Magic.

Dont know what i love more the panic in Laura's voice, the regret in Sam's voice or Marisha's facial journey through the whole bit.
Personally it's definitely the moment he realised that everything he just put into that drink was exactly as advertised

I felt it when Laura said "DO NOT DRINK ANYMORE". The anxiety spiked when he went in for that second chug. Even without the absinth that was a stronk cocktail.
"Tonight ladies and gentlemen, I shall be playing the game with the 'poisoned' status effect"
Taliesin, Matt, and Marisha (all of whom have 100% drunk Absinthe before) all realising Sam’s just drunk a full night’s worth of booze by taking a gulp of that cocktail.
That is actually all a myth though. It isn't any stronger than any other equal proof alcohol.
@@Michael-bn1oi Strong alcohol is strong. The proof of the absinths peers has no relevance, Sam would have been set for a while with the absinthe alone.
@@Michael-bn1oi True partialy, most absinthes you find now are simple 40% alcohols and artificialy green colored, but the real absinthe, the one popular at the end of the 19th century, is way stronger than common superalcolic of today, like 70-80%.
@@fabiovarra3698 in my country we have this alcohol called Tatra Tea, its alcohol u put into u tea in the mountains during skying to warm u up, we have bottles that range from 22% up to 72% and the 72 one is a real kicker.

I’m glad he thought the absinthe at 1:40 was fake because I don’t think he would have poured 3 shots if he had known
So apparently (according to a comment sam made on a different video) he didn't think ANY of the ingredients were gonna be real, so when he drank it, it was actual shock
@@annice-4609 He knew the beer was real and the first few, hence the very small pours. Nothing outrageous. But adding 5 shots of 100+ proof Mezcal and Absinthe to the mix? Oof.

I love how it starts so professional with real units "an ounce of elderberry liquor" and then it's just "a shot" and then "just a bunch"
A shot is a measurement in the uk. Its 25ml and a double shot is 50ml. Though he certainly didnt measure. I cant justify a bunch XD
When even the Elder God, Taliesin, cringes before the "Eldermancy" drink, you know it's bad...
He has seen a lot of things in his life time, and Sam is one of the few that continues to baffle him.

@@WLxMusic absinthes reputation is pretty overblown, it isn't actually *that* much stronger than any other spirits (it also doesn't cause hallucinations). "Real" absinthe is also usually more of a pale greenish yellow, but the cheap stuff is pretty intensely dyed and tends to bump up the ABV from what I've seen.
The thing is, it's a very, very intense anise/licorice flavor, and if you put more than a dash or two in it will overpower pretty much anything else.
Out of the many excellent reactions throughout this clip, Travis' "NOOOOOOO! YOU CAN NOT. YOU MAY NOT DO THAT." when Sam gets to Y really does it for me. Man was forbidden by the CEO to continue and he just went ahead and sent it anyway.
I can imagine some of the people who worked on this like Runesmith and Joecat watching the stream and thinking, “ I can believe that Sam Riegal poisoned himself for us...”
It's a good thing he didn't consume the entire drink. Doing so would have completed the Ritual and Taliesin Jaffe's true form would have finally been unleashed after untold millennia.

Interestingly toward the end, Ashley mentions she's kind of curious about it. When Sam did the other bit where he put whipped cream on everything, Ashley also said she was curious to try some of the more gross combinations. Just a small thing I noticed.
I wasn't expecting him to actually drink it.
Then when he started, I thought, "Oh, he'll spit immediately."
But then. He just, kept drinking it. HE KEPT DRINKING!
That moment he's realized it's real Absynth
Marisha's look of "oh boy, we're getting sued out of business now..." is almost as prominent as Travis' "yeah, I remember doing that" reaction 😆
We're gonna have a critrolestats one day of all the times Sam nearly dies doing the opening ad for the sponsor of the show.

I showed this to some friends of mine who are "familiar with the grape."
The first sounded (messenger voice messages) like her soul was dying and stomach churning because of the yogurt and espresso. Her bartender friends in turn were cringing just as bad as Tal.
The other of my friends were just as badly cringing.
Judging by that and how he reacts minutes later and about 42, 43 minutes later, this cocktail would knockout or possibly kill my lightweight self. 😱
