How to Solve Doppler Effect Problems in Physics

  • Doppler effect is the reason why a car has a slight change in sound as it passes you. As objects get closer, they appear to sound higher pitched than normal, and when they go away from us, they sound lower pitched than normal.
    I give the equation for doppler effect, and how to use all the variables. Then we do some practice problems.

      Thanks, but the reward is the smiles on my students’ faces. And money. I also like money.

    Hi about the 1st problem
    Why is the bottom of 343 - 20 has the minus on it? Is it because the vehicle goes towards you?

    what if you echo at a stationary position and the observer is moving then?

      I’ve never seen that case, but I’m sure the same rules apply. Let me know if that doesn’t make sense.

    how do you know when to use which sign

    • @danthetutor2624
      @danthetutor2624  9 місяців тому

      Approaching objects use the top sign, objects going away use the bottom sign

      how do you know when to use a plus sign or a minus sign

    • @danthetutor2624
      @danthetutor2624  9 місяців тому

      For the numerator, it’s + when moving towards, and for the denominator it’s - when moving towards.

    When you are moving away from the bear
    are you not suppose to add

    • @danthetutor2624
      @danthetutor2624  11 місяців тому

      Well that depends, are you the observer or the source? The bear is the source and you're the observer, and you're running away from the bear. So therefore, it should be minus in the numerator.

      Actually that was my query too. Why 343 m/s? We always had 330 m/s as the speed of sound in air.

  • @mdsamiralamefti3744
    @mdsamiralamefti3744 9 місяців тому

    Why not v=332 m/s Sir?😅

    • @danthetutor2624
      @danthetutor2624  9 місяців тому +1

      Do you mean for the speed of the sound? I use 343 because that’s the speed of sound at room temperature in Celsius.

      Just plug in the numerator and denominator separately. Don’t do it all in one step.
