  • We ride the 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 S! Ducati's flagship superbike boasts numerous changes for the 2022 model year, and the Italian brand's mission is clear: Make its superbike easier to ride.
There is no doubt that Ducati's superbike is still a powerful, fire-breathing machine that requires focus and fitness to ride quickly, just as any superbike does. Still, refinements to the seating position, chassis, suspension, aerodynamics, and electronics add up to a motorcycle that requires less energy to ride. Less effort almost always equates to more laps.
Important updates include a revised riding position. The fuel tank takes on a much flatter side profile, acting as a good anchor when hanging off the bike and a new rear shape that allows the rider to brace appropriately in hard braking zones, reducing muscle fatigue. In conjunction with that change, the seat is flatter, which helps with tucking in behind the bubble and protects the rider from windblast while also offering textured materials that provide grip and prevent the rider from sliding forward under braking.
The 1103cc Desmosedici Stradale 90-degree V4 powerplant features a few tweaks this year, namely its oil pump and oil circuits, allowing it to rev up more freely. Also, its exhaust outlets are 18 percent larger, which lowers backpressure. Taken together, the changes result in an additional 1.5 horsepower.
Due to EPA noise emissions rules, the North American 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 platform produces a claimed 210 horsepower at 12,500 rpm and 90.6 ft-lb of torque at 11,000 rpm. The European model shown here produces a claimed 215.5 horsepower and 91.2 ft-lb of torque. That discrepancy is negligible when dealing with 200+ superbikes, and the V4 has negotiated emissions compliance with barely a knock to its spec sheet, unlike many of its competitors in the North American market.
Ducati took the opportunity to update its electronics package, offering two new power modes (Full and Low) and revised its High and Medium modes. Full removes torque-limiting from all gears except first, giving you everything the V4 has to offer. In contrast, High and Medium feature new torque-limiting strategies specific to each gear-MotoGP-derived technology and a first for production motorcycles. Low power cuts peak horsepower to 150 (same as the Panigale V2).
Chassis changes are also new for this year. The semi-active Öhlins NPX pressurized fork 25/30 and TTX 336 shock utilize the Smart EC 2.0 system, in conjunction with a more aggressive suspension algorithm, better suited for sport riding. Mechanical changes come in the form of 0-2 inches of additional travel in the fork and softer spring rates, along with a 0.2-inch higher swingarm pivot point height-both of which create a more stable and agile Panigale V4.
Lastly, updates Ducati has refined its aerodynamic winglets, making them much smaller, while still creating the same 81 pounds of downforce at 186 mph as before. They also produce less drag than previous iterations. Also, the belly pan has more venting, promoting heat exchange for the high-performance engine and even helps cool the up/down quickshifter.
We sent Senior Editor Nic de Sena to Curcuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto, where he rode the 2022 Ducati Panigale V4 S, where he tested it in wet, mixed, and dry conditions.

Does this bike come with the Akrapovic track exhaust system?
The older Ducati Panigale had an R version that came with it. If so I take it there is no V4 R version or is there? Cheers great info on the bike 👍

      Hi Ja Ja,
The Akrapovic system mentioned and seen in this video is available as an official Ducati accessory through your dealer. So, you can pop that on and get a whopping 224 horsepower, should you want to go that route.
The Panigale V4 R is still available and is homologated for use in WSBK. The main difference between the "R" model and everything else is the use of conventional suspension and a 998cc V4 engine that conforms to WSBK rules.
      Hope this helps,
      - Nic

Is the old dial-type tachometer still optional in the dash settings?

    • @ultimatemotorcycling
      @ultimatemotorcycling  2 роки тому

      Hey Fancy Animal,
Yes, the older menus are still available in non-race riding modes. We stuck with the Track EVO interface because this was a racetrack exclusive test.
      Take care!

Hi sir nice video and i have a question
Is this bike comfortable enough for 300 km ride a day,i want a liter bike for Sunday weekend's ride my height is 6,3.
And sir are rsv4 comfortable or no.

      Hey Rohan,
Comfort is one of those things that is subjective from rider to rider. If you're used to the committed riding position of a superbike, then you'll likely find the Panigale V4 S to be agreeable.
Although, at slower street speeds and extended time in the saddle, any aggressive riding position can take its toll on the rider. Where bikes such as these shine is on the racetrack, so unless you're riding aggressively for the clear majority of your street ride and plan on hitting the track, then I'd suggest something a bit easier on the wrists.
If you're primarily going to be riding on the street, I'd suggest the Streetfighter V4. The upright riding position and seat are incredibly accommodating for taller riders such as yourself, and you're getting performance levels near the Panigale V4. Of course, the racetrack is where the Streetfighter can truly be pushed.
I'd also suggest checking out the new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak for a taller rider, which offers loads of performance with much greater touring capacity. Heck, you can even hit a trackday with confidence.
      Hope this helps,
      - Nic

      Hi Dev,
A passenger seat and footpeg setup are listed in the official accessories for the Panigale V4 platform.
Though, if you're planning on routinely carrying a passenger for your rides and still want a high-performance motorcycle, I'd encourage you to look at the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak.
      Take care!

How's the heat? compared to the older versions?

    • @ultimatemotorcycling
      @ultimatemotorcycling  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Marcelo,
Heat wasn't an issue for us on that day. The morning started out drizzly and chilly, followed by cool temperatures all day. I genuinely didn't feel radiant heat that'd be worth mentioning. In this case, the bike did just fine.
I'd wager that the lower temperature was a major factor in me not having much of an opinion, although I do wonder if the new belly pan ducts were helping the situation.
That's an aspect of the bike that I'll hold my opinion on until I can ride it in warmer weather.
That said, I expect any 200+ horsepower motorcycle to be a bit of a firebreather when the thermometer starts climbing.
      Hope this helps,
      - Nic

@@ultimatemotorcycling Thanks a lot for your response Nic! I was wondering if the new bike would run cooler than the 2021 version for the road....as everyone else says that is almost unbearable to ride them in the summer. Since I live in Florida you can imagine my worries about that!

      @@macursino Hey Marcelo,
As a Southern California resident, I can fully appreciate the concern. Except you guys get the humidity, too!
The best solution for heat is air flow, so looks like you might have some summer trackdays in order!
      Take care!
