As a 39yr old T1D, I commend you for taking care of yourself! As a child (and YA), I struggled to afford my meds and healthcare here in America. I was sick my whole life, hospitalized many times throughout the year and now am considered disabled due to complications. I never took it as seriously as I should have and I was too embarrassed to ask for assistance in my 20s. I do have a miracle child who is now 12 and have a beautiful life despite the health problems. It could be a lot worse for me but over the past few yrs I've worked hard to get on track so that my disease doesn't progress as fast. This is not meant to scare any of you that are dealing with this but PLEASE make your health a priority. I've had DKA countless times, pancreatitis, sepsis 2x, even heart failure 2x. That's in addition to retinopathy and kidney disease. You think it won't happen to you bc you have time...until it does. Love to all my little T1D brothers and sisters! ❤️
I got diagnosed at the start of this year, I'm 19. Just feel those feelings, I remember my first couple months like they were yesterday and they were not good at allll lol. The most important part (in my opinion) is that its ok to fuck up, in fact doing so will let you learn whats best for you to do. Be lenient with yourself, especially mentally.
I got diagnosed about a month ago and tried to kms in the emergency room. I ended up spending 8 days in the hospital for DKA and then 9 in a psych ward. I'm right there with you. It feels like an impossible adjustment. I already struggled with mental health and getting this on top of BPD felt like too much for one person. And thank you I appreciate the kind words. I'm afraid the reality will set in after a while and I'll be right back in the psych ward. I think I'm feeling artificially better right now because of a few factors, one being that I'm sort of in denial and subconsciously thinking this diagnosis is either a mistake the doctors made, or something that will just magically go away.
