- DXFan619 reviews Resident Evil: Afterlife. A very terrible movie in the live action Resident Evil movie franchise. I wasn't harsh enough on this trash in this video.

After Alice, being effectively cured of the T - Virus, survived the plane crash, is where this franchise lost me.
guy from prison break is still trying to break from a prison: The movie
Legend has it, Wentworth Miller is still trying to break out of a prison somewhere.
What I don't understand is why reject George Romero's script over Paul W. S. Anderson's script...? -__-
+Santouryu3 I don't know either. George Romero made a commercial for Resident Evil 2, and the movie was conceptualized to cash in on the popularity of the commercial.
Essentially the studio feared that Romero's movie would be rated NC-17, and that's what motivated their choice for Anderson, seen that he already had made an R-Rated video game into a PG-13 adaptation and it was a commercial success
Honestly I don't get the feeling the director has anything more than a passing knowledge of the games. Rather just threw stuff from various games into his movies because he saw them once and they looked cool, with no explanation or understanding, hoping that their mere presence be enough to make it look like a RE movie.
The director is married to Mila so it was just him making movies to show off how badass and sexy his wife is as a mary sue character
Just like the transformer movies.
Resident Evil the final chapter is by far much worse
Yup
The final chapter more like the Big Fuck Up!!!
The fact that Wesker gets killed by a FUCKING DOOR is an atrocity.
It doesnt even stay with the.story line with all the rest of the movies
@@beneil2 More like The Final Insult
The people making this film acted like we didn't know Chris was Claire brother. Any fan of Resident Evil already know this so why bother.
If Paul Anderson had any real love for the games. Then he would've made the movies, then the plot would fall more in line with the games. And the characters of the franchise would've been shown in a proper way, instead of using them as cheap fan service. Everything about these movies tells me that the only things that matters to him. Is money and his wife's relevance, and Milla Jovovich is no better. No in fact she's worse, because she's the reason why Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, and Leon Kennedy are not in the final movie. She wanted the spotlight on her, and nobody else. So she told her husband to cut Sienna Guillory and the actress who played Ada Wong out of the movie. All because of Sienna's superior acting abilities and the popularity of Jill Valentine with the fans, and for the actress who played Ada. Well Milla didn't like her for some reason, so she told Paul to cut her out. It's pretty obvious that Paul and his wife don't care about the resident evil franchise, all they care about is money and fame.
However, I really enjoyed the scene where Jill Valentine kicks Alice's ass. I thought it was very poetic.
Source?
Can you prove any of what you wrote? No? Didn't think so
@@kellyrobinson6543 Alice doesnt even exist in Resident Evil franchise. Just in this trash movies and thats only because she fucks the director.
Dude the fight scene with wesker is pretty much a carbon copy of the one from RE5 and RE5 did it way better. Also DC Douglas is way better as Wekser
And they kill all those survivors in the end along with Chris because we don’t see him at all after that
You just described what's wrong with Hollywood in general. There's too much emphasis on special effects and visuals, and not enough on story, plot and characters. History won't look at this era too kindly I don't think.
I appreciate the use of the prison break guy as the guy knows how to escape the prison
*For me, none of the movies are as good as any game!*
they aren't supposed to be based on the games as much as fanboys think.
@@ghostdoom3218 They're still all terrible films.
@@ghostdoom3218 Then why are characters like Nemisis, Leon Kennedy, Albert Wesker, Jill Valentine, Carlos Olivera, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield in the films if they are not meant to be as closely related as fans think.
@@__TheBlackSwordsman__ It loosely takes characters from the games
@@ghostdoom3218 And make them shit, how to infuriate a fan base 101. If they didn't try to appeal the fanboys, as you call them, why calling this atrocity of a movie series "Resident Evil"? They could have gone and made their own franchise and no one would have recognised the connection except some nods.
I've seen the first one in the theater, and still think that's a half decent adaptation, loosely interpretated as you put it. Went tits up with the second movie and then became an aberration. I understand the appeal for some people but seeing beloved characters getting shat on is not really great.
No one demanded that they made an oscar winning drama, the first games are campy and kinda ridiculous but, hell, a little more efforts for story and basic continuation were needed.
The first Silent Hill movie is a loose adaptation of SH1, far from perfect but respectable in my eyes but this RE series is "SH2: Revelation 3D" level of insultingly bad IMO.
Hey at least Wesker doesn't get killed by a door
I refuse to believe that is Wesker!
"Except it doesn't have an engine so Bennett kills Angel"
"WHO TF IS THIS???" I'm subscribing to you bro, I've watched your FEAR retrospective I love it as much a I love the game. Hats off to you!
Can you review Dragonball Evolution? It's the biggest insult of the franchise.
Omg yes plz lol xD
toykyle1 The Lego Movie and Fagzen should be reviewed
+spiderskull98 Took me a second to figure out what you meany by "Fagzen".
TheALPHA1550
Wow.
@@spid3r333 homophobic trash. You must be white?
After watching this review, I thought 'this is why a screenplay is the most important part of making movies'. You could make a good looking film with the right cinematography and visual effects, but what 'good' is it if the story is so bad it leaves you in the cinema dazed and confused? At least most critics don't fall for it but these kinds of movies still earn lots of money they absolutely don't deserve (like the Transformers sequels or 50 Shades of Grey). Couldn't agree with your review more DXFan619...
Good review, DX.
By the way, what are your thoughts on the new movie, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter?
Looks horrible. No way I'm paying money to watch it in theaters.
Supposedly Paul W.S. Anderson said he loved the games. I have to call bullshit on that because nothing in the films says "I love the Resident Evil games."
Christophe Gans said he loved Silent Hill, and while he and the producers made questionable choices, it's still a good SH movie.
hey dude great job, love your vids. keep doing the series of movies.
Really enjoy your research into the movies, like the reading the script to find the ad-lib part, it really drives your point home.
your dry humor is refreshing, i like hearing your jokes.
could say more but I just wanted to give some support =)
Denise Johnston Thanks for the kind words!
I love Milla (Michelle Burroughs from "Dazed and Confused"), she is hot and beautiful, but I hate and despise the films, they are a disgrace to cinema and they are little or nothing like the games at all.
It`s mindless action, like at least half of everything made in the US
Here's what makes her a crap person though. Most of the actors in Resident Evil: Retribution were booted out of the film because she feared that they were gaining more popularity than her. So in a terrible dick move, she demanded to her pussy-whipped henpecked husband that she remove those actors from the next film which came to be Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Ever wondered why Jill Valentine isn't present in that film? It's all because of Milla.
Nicholas Cauton that is one of the most self serving thing I have ever heard
What can you expect? Basically all RE films suck, and people like me always have to question themselves: If they suck balls, then why are they kept being made, and still turn out to be nothing but dogshit?
To see how much effort they can put into movies rather than being just a bunch of game makers or just make people try to create a theory about what wasn't explained.
Could you do Resident Evil the final chapter?
That's funny. I always thought of this one as the best because the cinematography is so good and there are more iconic characters than in any other. Plus the slow motion and the monsters are best utilized. I always just thought of every random monster as just mutated things from Umbrella, but maybe that's just me reaching 😂
5:00 I remember you said she had no powers, how she can cast SlowMo...I mean, howshe can move that fast? 🤔
The pieces for a great movie are there I think it's mostly the execution
fullmetalapprentice Totally agree
I hated only one resident evil movie and I completely forgot the name, but it had some sort of a desert and 'crows?'
Extinction
My favorite visual part of this movie is when Milla's face gets partially blurred in order o hide her wrinkles...
such quality... much cinematography...
Thank God someone else noticed. This happens in every one of these movies.
I love these movies, over the top cheesy fun and the action sequences are great
The action sequences are absolutely fucking awful!
@@dannymorrow6024 I quite enjoyed them actually, very OTT I’ll grant you but they were fun
Embarrassing
Except for the first one I hate all these movies with every fiber in my body
It has always infuriated me how they managed to fuck up the Resident Evil movie franchise so badly. Given how deep the Resident Evil series is and all the source material they had to work with, the Resident Evil movies could have (and should have) been awesome, but they somehow managed to shit all over it. I still to this day can't figure out why they felt like they had to create a brand new character (Alice) to star in the films because there were literally about 6 or 7 characters who were a perfect for to star in the movies, but for some unknown and completely baffling reason they just made up some super soldier chick who still has never appeared in any of the games. You would think that since they created the Alice character as the main character that they would have added her in to some of the games to create some kind of link, but they couldn't even do that. It would be just a tiny bit less irritating that they invented some new chick for the movies if they would have incorporated her into the game series, but they didn't even attempt that. With all the spin off games in the Resident Evil series they could have given Alice, you know, THE STAR OF THE FUCKING FILMS, her own spin off game, but no we get the abomination "operation Racoon City" instead of a film tie in. Resident Evil might just be the biggest fail in the video game movie genre, they just fucked up time and time again. It is a slap in the face to the fans because you can tell they didn't give a shit about making a decent movie that fit the games atmosphere, and they made like 7 fucking movies all starring Alice, and each fucking movie was just a blatant money grab because they know that a lot of people really love the franchise. I really hope they try to reboot the series in a few years and the asshole director they used for all the movies has nothing to do with it because if the legacy of resident evil movies is forever the 7 or 8 Mila Jovovich ones are the only legacy, it is really infuriating. It should not be that difficult to make a faithful movie because there are plenty of characters and plenty of story to put together a competent movie. Instead of a bullshit action movie they need to make a film with a creepy atmosphere starring Leon or Claire or Jill or Chris or Rebecca or any real character instead of a made up super girl.
I'm not gonna lie, but this was the RE movie that i actually couldn't finish, half of what was going on in the movie i couldn't understand, like who was the big guy with the hammer, how and WHY are the zombies able to dig, who the hell are any of the characters are, and really anything that was happening
I actually never got to the part where they met Wesker
But i will say the thing that captured my attention was near the end...
And that is because i realized there was music playing in the BG
Idk if it's said in the description since i can't actually read it thanks to mobile but the song is
The Outsider- A Perfect Circle
The big guy with the hammer is an executioner, they're from the game Resident Evil 5, a lot of things paul anderson just shoe horned in from the games with no explanation
how about the end scene where they are all standing on the ship and the sizing is so far off that the people would have to be 50ft tall to be as big as they are in comparison to the Arcadia.
I felt like this movie deserves a BULLshit rating, since it looks amazing
Yousef Atta I don't really give points for how good anything looks. It's ultimately irrelevant if the story and characters are horrible.
can you do foodfight please?
I became a fan of the movies first because I discovered the movies first as a kid. Afterwards I found out they had games and I loved the games too. I enjoy everything about resident evil. If it wasn’t for the movies then I’m sure I would have never discovered the video games until way later. I was born at a time when the digital age was still young so it’s no wonder why we as a whole are more aware of classics and originals because older generations are sharing their disapproval of new content. It’s always been like this with anything but the digital age has given people a tool to express their disapproval of adaptations, remakes etc. Many people adopt collective thinking when it comes to this I’ve noticed. Take a look at Star Wars and you always hear the old peeps talking about how they never let their children see the prequels or how they disapprove of modern day rock music. The thing is that this will continue to occur as long as more and more entertainment is created. I was born in 1996 and even I as young as I am, I’m already starting to relate to older generations when it comes to how I feel about new content. I can’t stand mumble rap, Instagram, remake of Spider-Man, clothing trends, etc. It’s always been like this with entertainment, fashion, trends....the only difference is that now we have the internet and so our understanding of how content is perceived is expanded greatly. It’s no longer just word of mouth. If the internet didn’t exist I wouldn’t even know how hated the prequels to Star Wars are. And yes the digital age is still young. It only started in the 1970s so yeah it’s pretty early still. A single human can live a whole century and a little more potentially. Imagine what technology will be able to do when my great great grandchildren are around IF we’re still around. I say IF because our world can end at any moment. By their time my favorite music, clothes, games, etc will be a thing of the past but if I’m still around you better believe I will probably think their tastes in things are lame.
Your reviews are always solid. Full support.
I'm sure the director only kept making these movies to try and keep his wife relevant. Which is sad. Exactly why the last RE movie with this married couple only did like $26M or so in the box office. People just had enough of this shit.
I like this movie actually, quite a bit. And most everything you said is true nothing is explained, no one is really fleshed out, and half the shit that goes on makes no sense. I can agree, and I also like how your honest but not over the top, you don't swear or yell you say it like it is which is something I morally appreciate. Now even though I like your style and I agree with what you say is true, how do I still like the movie? The fact is simple: ACTION. Not very believable but the fact I can just pop in a movie and watch explosions and zombies get shot and hyped up fight scenes just makes me like a movie. Now I'll finish with this final sentence. Although your are right in most cases, just remember we are a simple species, shit blowing up will impress a lot more than a very carefully detailed laid out plot, we don't have time to change things we can't.
What the fuck has swearing anything to do with making a good review or not? In fact swearing many times is a good mean to convey emotions, be it a bad one or it can even be a joke!! I agree one should not swear too much, then it just becomes vulgar, but it has nothing to do with moral mate!!
Wtf did Alice think asking Wesker any last words with a tiny gun to his head like that would kill him smh.
I thought of an idea for you to review of the next edition for "Movies I Fucking Hate": Rob Reiner's worst and most notorious film he ever directed, the 1994 film "North".
2015? I thought you only did _Fifty Shades of Grey._
A few years too late, but I hate that fucking fight between Chris, Claire, and Wesker. It’s just so slow and awkward. And when Wesker’s like “You two have been quite an inconvenience for me.” which makes no sense because they literally just met. There’s no history there, compared to when it happened in the games. It was fast and it happened after spending a few days chasing after Wesker. And don’t even get me started on Alice, she’s just such a bland character. Her skills and Mary-Sueness could be fine if she actually had a god damn personality. And lots of fans have perfectly explained why Paul WS Anderson clearly isn’t a fan of the games, I forget the points but I’ve always had that same feeling. When it comes to how the scenes are shot and why the monsters look so good has to do with the cinematography and the costume/FX designers.
Dare I say this... but I actually saw the resi movies before I played the game. In detail, I've seen the last 3 movies but I've only played Resi 4 (and still haven't finished it)
And to be honest, although this movie is shit, I actually kind of like it but probably due to the cinematography. IMO the worst resi movie was the last one: Retribution
Kyros Vulk-Oliver yeah i agree with you retribution was really bad xD
Yeah, I agree with you.
Believe it or not, I am quite a Resident Evil fan. I loved the first 3 games, 4, was "okay" with 5, kinda liked 6 (but not as much as 4), enjoyed the Chronicles and Revelations games, and I liked 0. I didn't really like the spin-off titles, though.
Personally, I think the RE movies are terrible. The live-action ones, anyway.
I thought the CG animated ones, Degeneration and Damnation, were actually pretty decent.
I love all the movies and I dont hate them I personally like them. Plz no hate on me.
Hooray Mr. Trump
An umbrella clan, what is this, the yato tribe from gintama
why the Hell is Milla's arm covering the e in the posters?
and the leg
To be extra insulting :D
Honestly, after the third one I just couldn't even continue. The final chapter is just okay AT BEST, but it's pretty damn bad. I think many underrate it because the series had already gone downhill but man, when I look at the 2 movies previous to it just ugh.
these films are cheesy, and very disjointed but I do enjoy them for the OTT action, that’s just my view but I certainly understand why certain people wouldn’t like them. But I do 👍
Off the top my head I'm pretty sure Mario Bros is best adaptation to date, fight me.
some of these video game movie tie-ins should have being an one movies deal and causing the ultimate cardinal sin in the realms of show business using the final chapter
subtitle when it is obvious that there will be more made I called out Friday the thirteenth franchise by doing that and the other sin is by avoiding the lore and continuity
in scriptwriting and can be the downfall of any franchise going forward and can also end them.
what about the animated CG Movie
I loved this movie! It was my favorite Resident Evil movie and I love watching it! Idk why but I do lol.
I agree with most that you say and I disagree with some, few. But I have to say, this is the BEST use of 3D in a movie, at least up until the point of its release. Way better than the crap of Avatar with its shitty "auto-focus". No, bitch! If I want to focus on something I, MYSELF will do it.
Always said the guy that plays Chris in this looked a better fit for a good character to play Jake from the Res6 game.
I pretty much only liked this movie because 12 year old me thought it was scary at the time.
Your dialogue is amazing 😂
Don't you know that Chris has broken out of prisons before
This is more like resident evil 6 the movie but heck even that had some dark atmospheres to it, this looks too bright to be resident evil
Bennett looks like Tommy Iommi without sunglasses.
How the fuck does she survives the crash, being a normal human being?
A Perfect Circle song in this shit?! WTF?!?!?!?
It was kinda cool they took elements of res evil 5 I guess
Oh god! Not this one! ARGH!!! 😲🔫
The one after this is a mash up of all the films. They just completely stopped trying... I had to turn that piece of shit off.
I don't understand how Alice survived the helicopter crash
Using the armour given to her by her husband. This is on her husband's mind:
Alice gets injection that neutralizes the T-virus from her system and gets weak.
Younglings who don't know or care about Resident Evil games are like:
"OMG, poor Alice I hate what he did to her. Nooooo this can't be happening. Please."
Alice survives the crash and jumping and rolling through buildings.
Younglings who don't know or care about Resident Evil games are like:
"Woooow she's such a badarse I love her. She kick arses."
Young ones these days are set up like that.

Extinction was good fun, then this confusing plot happened, then retribution is the f**king worst. Let's hope the final movie just gets this over with
Message from the future:
They did, but even worse than anyone could have imagined.
Is Retribution, aka Divergent with zombies, shit as well. And by the way, Apocalypse is actually really cool. I liked it. But yeah, Afterlife is pretty shit.
Meh, I think it was mildly entertaining. Even with its obvious flaws.
I only like the animated movies of resident evil oh and the soundtrack that's about it.
Do TMNT 2014
Apc was the only thing I liked about this film.
And plus why the movie never give the real characters from the game
Maybe the movie is after the videogame
No just no, don't try to make a logical explanation for this piece of garbage.
10:11 resident evil the final chapter might want to have a word with you
True
I actually own all the Resident Evil movies and even though I did like Afterlife (For me its a 6/10), its my least favorite out of the movies.
Isn't it the 5th movie?
Nope, 4th
Wesker:Blow up fggts
Alice: no u
Wesker: fuck.
I actually enjoyed resident evil extinction
Prison break all over again.
I really wanted you to do first one, the first movie is god awful
Yeah, it's also trash. Same director, no surprise whatsoever.
You should have more subscribers, honestly.
Albert wescker looks like duke nukem
IMO I think apocalypse is worse
It might be bad but at least its not Welcome to Raccoon City bad.
Lets be honest, all the live action RE movies are just pure trashes.
The first one is okay and the best out of all of them but you can enjoy all of them if you wanna watch corny action
The first movie was lame albeit not terrible, then the second film offended me and I get the impression the franchise will barely get any better
The Live Action
Films
Sucks.
I just watch it for the action, the plot didn't make sense after apocalypse.
Yeah these movies are shit but if you’re somebody like me who can also enjoy watching corny action, they are enjoyable
A Troll In Central Park
Alice is the only person to bond with the the virus you say well then how did wesker get his fucking powers because if I remember correctly that's the reason he fucking has them. His body has unique antibodies that destroy any virus but keep the benifits hence his regeneration and enhanced physical capabilities this film just makes it sound like anyone can have super powers as long as they are strong willed enough or did weaker have the prototype virus in this film as well
It ruines the game
Trying to find a good resident evil film is like trying to find a peanut in a turd...
Well of course the ppl are expected to have played the game
Man, A Perfect Circle is wasted in this movie.
I kind of like all the Resident Evil movies, even the sucky ones like Afterlife. In my opinion Extinction is worse than this one.
+Jonny FiveO I actually think Extinction is the best movie in the franchise, haha.
DXFan619 Mike Epps is all I have to say about that! He sticks out like a sore thumb! Well to me, atleast. He ruined Apocalypse and Extinction for me. But like I said I like those films even though they are "shitty". I think Retribution was the best one, since the first.
I like the Resident Evil movies because of Milla Jovovich and the action. I'm not here for story, character depth, or plot. That's not something you normally expect from a Paul W.S. Anderson movie. In my opinion the fifth movie was the absolute worst. I liked the first three the most. Oded Fehr and Mike Epps are great side characters. Oded Fehr and Milla Jovovich had great chemistry on and off screen. That stunt in the second movie where Milla Jovovich's character ran down the side of that building is a mix of composite filming and actual running down that building. Milla, herself, ran down the last 60 feet of that building for the stunt.
1:02c.
STAR POWER BITCHES!
You thought this was bad. Just wait till you see the next movie. >:D
And the next one after that. That’s when the excitement REALLY starts!
I disagree. I think Paul WS Anderson cared more about making his wife, Milla Jovovich, look great than actually making a good Resident Evil movie
