This looks like a below-average fan game. Definately has that "using pre-made assets and sprites from actual games" kind of feel. Exept it's an official game, that they demanded money for, so there's no excuse.
Hmm... Every review from anyone about this game has been negative (PS1). I had this game when I was young but on N64. It must be much different, because it wasn't at all difficult to maneuver left to right, nor jump from platform to platform. But because it was a cartridge, cut scenes weren't animated, they were just shown as scenes where you had to keep pressing 'A'. I might be the only person in the world that actually enjoyed the fuck outta this game hahaha. It's the reason I'm a hardcore fan of MK now, and Sub Zero is my all-time favorite video game character. To each his own, tho. Great video and you're pretty funny lmao

I've enjoyed it too. Used to play it a lot on PS1. Must have finished it about 1000 times on very hard mode. Those who complain probably just have slow reflexes and are used for very basic commands. I never had any trouble with unresponsiveness or the turn button. The controls are quite easy

You should review Aliens Colonial Marines. I didn't think it was as bad as everyone made it out to be. I think the main reasons it's hated is because of the poor AI, and the fact that it was really hyped up before release

First of all, props to you for pointin' out that you're not in MK stuff. That's part of the reason why you didn't like this game. Now i know that there are many MK fans who also didn't appreciate it, but we'll get to it later. Now where do i start? Repetitive level design and music was always a thing in classic MK games, it was made so the player could feel the atmosphere of a game. Repetitive enemies? At least they were fitting in thanks to the plot. Monks guarded the map and they've also guarded the amulet along with the elemental gods. That goes for the enemies in the netherrealm. There were a prison guards and members of the brotherhood of shadow. All of the monks, prison guards and members of bos, were using the same models respectively, but at least developers gave them a different weapons and abilities. You know that Midway were having a kinda limited technology back then, right? I can partially agree with the shitty control movement. At one point i was stacked on level 2. I bet the most of the players did. But eventually i've learned how to jump on swinging platforms. I've learned how to trigger that fallin' logs in level 1 by using swip. I've learned that sometimes you have to push forward jump button slightly, and sometimes to hold it. I've learned how to execute a longest combos so i could gain more exp. I clearly remember that i've suffered from the unresponsitive button, but it was never a big deal to me later on when i've learned to play properly. The same goes with the combination of the movements and level designs. Suffice to say that the player must get used to the controls. And this is the part when most of the players were done with this game. But in the end of the day i managed to beat this game on very hard without using the cheat codes. There is also a big issue at the prison of souls level. If the prison guard got killed by a trap, a new enemy will appear in his place and starts shooting. This was always an inconvenience considering the area the player's in in a middle of platforms and huge fallin' hammers. You can't go on and just hang on the platform, waitin' the shooting to end. Laughly bad cutscenes? Sometimes the actors were overacting, especially Sub-Zero, but that's about it. And his costume looked weird in real life, but was ok in the game. I've never found the cutscenes awfully bad, but to each his own, i guess. Mythologies presented one of the best and fully-thought storylines in mk plot at that time. It added a new badass characters in MK franchise such as Quan Chi, Shinnok and Fujin. It gave a way to the new games within MK universe, besides a fighting genre. And yes, Special Forces were a disaster, but mainly because the lead director and the most of the crew were forced to leave during development. But hey, eventually a Shaolin Monks were released. And it was a huge success among the MK fans.
I remember being so excited to play this. As an 8 year old I just couldn’t accept how bad this game was. I couldn’t beat it without cheats and only finished because I skipped to the end.
Admittedly, I think the concept of a fighting game being translated into a single player story mode with levels is a neat idea and I feel that it COULD work, if done right. But mostly I think that primarily the series's gameplay must be meant for it. Take Smash Bros Brawl for example. There is a lengthy story mode that is primarily single player, but the basic mechanics of Smash Bros lend itself to work much better to a platforming game than Mortal Kombat, mostly due to Smash's double jump and recovery move, which Mortal Kombat lacks (as far as I know). If you fall off the level in Smash Bros Brawl, you can usually save yourself. But in this game, falling off is a death sentence. Now I'm not saying it's impossible to make a Mortal Kombat platformer, but this isn't how you do it.
If they had just gotten the controls right, this game could've been a classic and maybe we could've gotten more mythology games on other mortal Kombat characters
Great review Mr. DX, I'm the guy who requested Drake of the 99 Dragons. I know you said you couldn't find the PC version, neither could I, but the Original Xbox version does work on a 360 if that helps. On a side note, ThuNoob, who also reviewed that game, said the credits music in that game is pretty good, but there are no videos of that music ANYWHERE. So if you do get around to this game, can you please post a separate video with the credits music? Once again, great review. P.S. Can you do a Movies I F*cking Hate of The Room? The concept of this game really reminds me of Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure, although I think it's more to do with Mortal Kombat's origins. Speaking of which, request for a review of Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure?

The problem with MKM: Sub-Zero is that they tried to marry platforming to the fighting game series' controls. Fighting game controls are fine... For fighting games. Not so much for action-platformers.

Play Mortal Kombat Special Forces and you will know the real definition of shitty spin off, this one is a gem compared to it, just by the intro cutscene you know you are for one hell of a ride.
Seems Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Subzero could have been a good fighting game like Streets of Rage but alas, it sucks raccoon fuck. Now I know why another Street Fighter game wasn't made like this game and sticks to a traditional 1V1 fighting game instead of a platform and beat 'em up game. Streets of Rage got it right though. Even Battle Toads gotten it right. Mortal Kombat was better off sticking to a traditional 1V1 style fighting game since the beginning.

Holy balls, I absolutely hate this game lol. I'm arguably the biggest MK mark. So many great memories with the franchise, all the way up to the epic MK X. But MK Sub Zero is definitely not a apart of those great memories. Even as a kid, I absolutely thought this game was a giant fucking piece of shit. One of the worst games ever. This is why Mario platformer is better. Not only you don't have knockback, but the controls and level design is more superior.
Also, it's title "sub-zero", the "zero" sums up the rating of the game, it's a zero out of 10.
