    Maine woods * I’m an 80 year old man living by myself in the Maine woods. I have a lot of trouble walking so needed something to stay busy. I ordered the whole set of looms, round and the long ones. I really enjoy knitting on them and give most of my stuff away. Your videos are easy to follow. Just made this set of slipper/socks and by far the best. Thank you.

    I started these with Seasons bulky yarn but mine stitches looked much looser than video. So I switched to Wool-Ease Thick and Quick (super bulky) and liked the results much better and looked a lot more like the video and the written pattern, which I did buy. I love them. I have 3 skeins and think I will get 2 pairs from that and plan to make the leg part a little longer - maybe 10 rows instead of five. Thank you so much for the video and the heel video was super helpful as well! I did not do it right on my first try and "got it" after watching the heel video.

    I bought some looms to learn how to knit with them. You are a good teacher, explaining thoroughly, using the correct knitting terms, and one can easily see what you are doing. I watched this entire video. I feel like I just heard someone speaking a foreign language to me. Nothing on your part. It is me. I am overwhelmed.

Although I've already had to restart three times...pulled out the old one to start fresh...first row was so tight I couldn't put it over the second...then the second time it seemed too loose! :/ Frustrating but super glad this video is here. I can pause, rewind and slow it down how ever much I need to. 🥰

    I bought one of these looms at a craft show many years ago and got frustrated when I tried to make a hat, put it back into the package and stuck it in a drawer. You made it look like even a non knitter could make slippers. I’ll pull it back out and give it another go...Thanks!

    I modified this a bit to make the cuff thicker and the ankle bit longer. Rather than 10 rows for the cuff, I did 16, and rather than 5 for the top of the ankle (from the cuff to the heel), I did 10 rows rather than 5. That seemed to fit my grandad a bit better than the shorter ankle. This was so easy, though, thanks so much for sharing!

I will say, I wish that you went over sewing the toe and closing up all loose ends more in detail. Thank you. Question: could this be done so it would be with a long neck and be more like a "crew sock"? Something like this would make great winter socks for those of us who work outside in the snowy winter months and are tired of spending the extra dollars for so-called "thermal" socks that are nothing more than different colored regular socks and do not help keep your feet that much warmer than the regular crew socks. So, one would add more rows before making the heel?

    • @GinaLay
      @GinaLay  5 років тому +5

      Yes, you could definitely make a longer neck. 🙂 Exactly... add more rows. You got it! 👍

    Couple questions:
    1. How long does it take to make one?
    2. Are they comfortable? I’ve had problems in the past with sock made with yarn other than sock yarn being uncomfortable.
    3. What size yarn and loom are you using?
    4. And finally does one size fit all or will I need to adjust width for different sized feet?

    • @GinaLay
      @GinaLay  5 років тому +5

      Willow Blodgett 1. Without very many interruptions, I would expect they would take a couple of days. 2. This is Charisma yarn #5. In my opinion and many others, it is a nice comfortable yarn to work with and to wear. It’s all a matter of opinion. 3. #5 yarn and I am using a 24 peg Knifty Knitter loom. 4. Each sock is different according to size. When knitting you will want to see the tip of the big toe. I hope these answers help.

    Do you know why final product may be a bit loose? I used a 24 peg loom like you did. The only thing that was different is I used a bit thicker of a yarn? Do I need to be wrapping each peg tighter then?
    This was my first ever knitting project and your video was SUPER helpful so thank you!!

      Awh thank you! When you wrap the pegs try to remember somewhere in between.. not too tight but not too loose. . I hope that makes sense. Also make sure you are knitting and ending your slipper where you can just see the tip of your big toe. 🤗

      @@GinaLay ohhh thank you for the response. I think I mean to clarify what I meant though: I meant loose as in the knits all around are kinda loose. I am not entirely sure how best to explain it but overall sock is kinda loose not necessarily "fit" per se. Thank you again for taking the time to respond to questions!!

    Trying this. I have loom knitted before. Nothing fancy. Scarves. So this is my first attempt at something more complicated. So far so good. Just past the heal section and from what I can tell it looks okay. If this works out I may be knitting slippers for everyone for Christmas...lol!

      It’s hard for me to tell you a size because the toes aren’t there to measure.💗

    Thank you for the tutorial! You are an excellent teacher ❤️ I wish you could have showed how to stitch up the open toe, not sure how to do that part, but a lovely video otherwise.

      Thank you so very much for watching and being here! 🙏♥️ I appreciate your support. Have you made a hat yet? The toe is almost identical to closing and sewing up the top of a hat. Does that make sense?

      Google Translate renders this as: "Hello! Nevertheless, knitting with knitting is more interesting and it turns out more beautiful!" Presumably knitting with knitting-loom.
