  • A Freshwater Fish lovers dream, Bitter Springs is nestled in amongst a palm shaded oasis in the arid Katherine region next to the small township of Mataranka.
    It's a favourite rest stop for travellers to cool off in the heat of the Northern Territory, but we visited it for another reason, it's underwater inhabitants that you won't see much information of in other videos as I watched many before traveling to this spot, and don't believe the signage as I found most of it is wrong or incomplete, I have put the names of all the species we encountered along with some other interesting information in the video.
    There are other springs in the area but we found this to be the best and most natural, there is a lot of history in this area so if you're interested I will put some links bellow, I hope you enjoy the video and for more like this please like and subscribe for future videos or check out some of my older videos that are also pretty interesting, Thanks for watching.

      Thank you! that means a lot, there is a whole other underwater world out there and sometimes they get over looked, I hope to bring them to people and show what most are missing in their travels, especially people that love their fish as they mostly get forgotten.

    I love bitter springs it is easily one of the best natural swimming places in Australia. Though, as you pointed out, it can easily become a public swimming pool. Great footage too, you are braver than me to fly your drone down the creek!

      Yes I agree, and Thank you! Nick actually got the drone for this one after I lost mine doing the same in a creek in Cairns, we do take risks with our gear and as a result to get the good footage sometimes loose it, we also lost two GoPros on this trip.

    I so enjoyed my visits there - the first one in July a few years ago was perfect, pristine water, I couldn't get over the clarity of the turquoise water with plants growing far below, quite happily, due to the clarity of the water. I spent many peaceful hours floating downstream on my noodle, loving the scenery. The next time was later in the year the following year,, around September - everything looked frayed and covered in algae - a bit more like what was shown here in places. However, so great to get this underwater look at a very special place, thank you so much!

      Yes I guess it depends on the season, weather and traffic, we actually found it really hard to film due to all the traffic, but I guess when you get a place like this that is so beautiful in an environment like that it's going to happen, everyone wants to enjoy it in their own way, I'm just happy it was quite clean and people seemed to be quite respectful of the nature, Thanks for watching! 🙂

    • @australianbiotopes4563
      @australianbiotopes4563  26 днів тому

      I'm surprised you have trouble with the Val. I have to always weed mine out, the Hornwort I think just get anchored on bit and pieces as it flows pretty fast, it probably just gets caught on the way through, there is heaps on the sides floating as well, the substrate is really chalky as well, easily stirred up if you touch the bottom so when there are a lot of people it gets a bit cloudy there.

      Yes it can be in some parts, but it can be the same in saltwater to, you never know if there are sharks present until it's to late, at least in public places like this they try and clear them out so for the most part it's pretty safe, but you never really know when in the ocean so I still prefer it 🙂
