- High vs Low Hours in Rocket League - What's the Difference?
HUGE thanks to Rocket League Tracker for sponsoring this video!! As I said at the start, it's absolutely amazing and I can't recommend it enough, so download it here: link.overwolf.com/RocketLeagu...
Rocket League players have vastly different amounts of hours in the game. Some players could have 200 hours, and others could have 2000 and they could be the same rank in Rocket League. This highlights that hours in-game does not necessarily correspond to skill, but how does it affect their gameplay?
So I got players of the same rank but vastly different hours to 1v1 each other to see how their playstyles, mechanics and rotation differs. Despite some of these Rocket League players having more than 10 times their opponents hours, they have a similar skill level, but do they play the same?

Keep up the great videos
thanks for the opportunity. I played so bad. I'm hoping I'll be able to be in another video in the future to redeem myself.
@@haydosplays5624 I have bad games too.
Hey what music was that for the gc vs champ
Me seeing the plat with 33 hours and watching sunless video about the gold with 10,000 hours
He's diamond now
Did you like the comment that fast?
Say somthing 😂
I was plat with like 23-25 hours on the game
🤣
How tf does a guy with 300 hours already have GC?
Maybe he has 300 hours in game but like 2000 in free play or something.
I have about 870 hours overall now, it’s just a lot of practice I guess
He’s just better I guess
when u spend 300 hours in freeplay u get gc thats it
and then 23 hours ranking up from bronze to gc
I’m pretty sure there’s an inconsistency people never realize when comparing hours. Everyone who plays on Steam looks at how many hours Steam says they’ve played, which counts every hour Rocket League is open. Everyone else checks their stats page to see how many hours they’ve played which only tracks time spent playing actual games. For example, my stats page shows 1/5 of the hours that Steam says I have. It doesn’t include all the time I’ve spent in training or workshop maps, and also Steam hours includes all the time just sitting in the menu doing nothing.
Yeah, nobody really stays on the main menu for a long time so I think the stats on the Steam/Epic Games launchers are more right.
@@soldierdoge2285 people who trade do. I have 52 days on the main menu but 9 played, which means I need to touch grass, but also that those stats don’t really reflect how good you are
@@jpgczOh dang I never thought about it like that. I don’t trade though so I think it will be more accurate for me but less accurate for traders.
@@jpgcz I also agree that hours don’t reflect how good you are.
@@soldierdoge2285 I sometimes just leave my game on for hours so ye
So I saw a comment that said that the reason the lower rank players progress through the ranks quickly is because we take big risks in learning mechanics first rather than actual game sense. Well this is what I did basically. Focused a lot on mechanics, but when I transitioned into learning game sense I could put my mechanics into practice so my gameplay is more consistent overall. I think it’s a good way to improve overall, at the start it may be slow, but the end result really is worth it. I would say ones helps a lot with consistency as does learning shadow defence, boost management, boost pathing and back post rotation. Once you’ve learned those you’re basically set to improve in terms of consistency and your overall capabilities. I still have ways to go, I have 870 hours but still not as consistent as I want to be. It’s just the drive to improving to enjoy the game more for me.
liesss I believe yall take big risk in learning game sense (as in u try hard to win, learning whenever u can) and do mechanics on the side to support it. You might say you focas on mechs, but in game you put more of your game sense to use. Hence why there's cracked plats every like 1/100 games with like 2k hours to back them up. they are actually those who do mechanics first and game sense later.
@@badateverything2931 Well that’s a bold assumption. Unfortunately it’s not right, but I do think the concept of learning game sense before mechanics is interesting. I feel like the problem with that is you can’t put it into practice because you’re not practicing in matches and overall consistency won’t be as high
@@CaaziPianoSheets how do u have 870 hours in the video it said u had 300?
@@bdv7144 870 overall, 300 in-game. We were asked for our in game hours in the career tab
Yeah, the lower hour players tended to go for more brave or mechanical plays despite not actually having mechanics to finish it off sometimes. The higher hour players never seemed to go out of their comfort zone and they always fell into the mindset of keeping it close.
However, the career tab hours are usually 3-4x less than your actual hours, so this is really not that accurate.

love the vids Helical it is just such a change it style compared to the other rocket league content keep up the grind me man :)
One thing to consider, I joined after f2p and rose quickly-ish, this was without a doubt having multiple people who had played for YEARS and were all diamond to low champ. They taught me almost everything i know except the mechanics that i had to practice on my own. It is significantly easier to rank up when you have a lot of friends that tell you how to get gud, play with you, give you examples etc. They had to figure it out on there own which take way more time.
Hey mate I love you videos I think your going to be big in the RL content creation scene keep up the work
Hot take: the reason the low hour players reached that rank more quickly is because of the difference stated in the video- by taking big risks and practicing mechanics in game without being a ball chaser and being willing to lose games, they got there so much faster than the ones trying to play safe and positionally.
Or people like to prefer to freestyle over ranked
no, it's just that some people are just better at video games or take them more seriously than others
When you dont care about rank you end up ranking up- i mean i hid them for like a month and literally went from low to high diamond without noticing a difference
ALSO training vs adaptation- best way to get out of plat is to play with your diamond friends and just mess around. You’ll find that trying to keep up is way nicer than training to get up
This was one of the best skill ranked videos you have put out I hope you could bring out more contestants like them :)
Love your content keep it up
I'd love to see a re-do of this for 3s. Put 3 high-hour players together vs 3 low-hour players.

You should do it but playing high and lower hour together to see what is the difference in rotation and team plays. I think is a good idea. Good Video!
Hi heli love the vids man :)
What I noticed is that people with lower hours rely on mechanics and people with more hours rely more on their game sense
Which is kinda weird, taking into account that you can have overall (team sport) game sense with 0 hours but mechanics take some time to learn and a lot of time to master.
@@michalgabriel9647 everyone wants to flip reset, no one wants to pass
for sure you aren't gc with 300 hrs. he probably used the career stat option, while everyone else used the steam hr option (the better one imo) to chech their hrs. i hit gc around 350 hrs using career, but in reality i had around 1,000 hrs according to steam.
He asked for career stats. I’ve been GC since season 14, I have nearly 870 hours now so yeah it’s more training than in game experience
i say steam hrs is worse, i have 12k hours, but only 700ish hours in game. Some people just sit in the menu afk alot

fun fact:
when i started playing for the first time i got platinum 2
100hours in game and i am plat 1 now
i think it’s because when you first started you couldn’t rely on mechanics so you used game sense and i guess it worked out but now that you have at least some mechanics skill you forgot to think for yourself and focused on what “famous people” said to think about
if this offends you in any way just tell me i’ll delete it
i’m the same
@@natemartin3907 no thats what i think too if i just take my time and think about where to put myself in different situations i play way better im 💎 2 now
Thx for mentioning me in the intro! 💯
I was plat 3 with about 20 hours... still there now with 50 hours because i switched from keyboard to controller. Tbh it wasnt even intentional, I really sucked real bad. I couldn’t even hit a powershot properly... all I did was 100% game sense and centering the ball for my teammate to score and rotating back post. I learnt to play fast in those first 20 hours because they were only dropshot with my friends. It boosted my learning a ton. Also did an aerial training pack one evening but that’s it.
You learn faster when you go for stupid shit, fail, then adapt.
To illustrate that: Day 1 in dropshot I started to try and fly up in the air to get the ball, ofc I didnt hit a single one. This made me lose, over and over because my friends never dared to go for air plays and therefore ofc won because they didn’t miss while I did. 2 days later though I could hit the ball in the air and they couldn’t. Because they never tried to do things they couldn’t they never improved. Point is you will lose at first, but once u get it down you’ll beat the people who are to comfortable to go for risky plays.
My first week on the game instantly got to p3 and stayed there for 3 seasons now I’m low champ
nice
do you practice to improve your mechanics or just play a lot of games?
Bro, that plat definitely did not deserve to win. He missed such an easy open net. I could easily beat him.

3:33 i felt that Nooo! Nooo! Nooo!
the PAIN
I used to be one of those guys with few hours for my rank. And I ranked up because of my mechanics. I spent way more time in training, and this was on Xbox, so when I hopped in ranked after a week of training it was like I leveled up. Seems like Helical was referring to less hours = worse mechanics. When it more likely means worse positioning but being faster. In my case at least.
I feel like adding that when I "leveled up" I also felt my positioning and game sense improve because I had more control over my car and thus more control over the game as a whole. Again, this is my experience.
How in the world is that guy platinum with 33 hours, at that point I would still be in casual or exhibition

I look at all these gc’s with 400 hours and ssl’s with 500 hours and i wonder - why there is no pro player that has like less than 3k hours? Maybe people are just lying?
A pro can 2 vs 1 a GC1, that’s for sure. Now imagine The diferente In ability to be able to do that. Besides, the was no SSL mentioned. My rocket league experience.
I started when my brother bought the game to play with his friends, he ended up moving on but I was captivated by it. Immediately I was advancing, I just seemed to have a knack for the game and I quickly ranked up through bronze and silver. As I was in gold, I began watching other RL players and one thing stood out to me. Mechanical wizardry. I was so captivated by the mechanical prowess of the elite players, I just trained and trained and trained. Ceiling shots when from the hardest thing to do to consistently hitting them in practice. Aerials are easier. Dribbles are easier. I was ranking up fast.
Eventually, I got to plat and that’s where my love for the game was dying out. You see, along with practicing a ton, I became a bit of a freestyler. Free styling helped me a ton to improve all aspects of my game but unfortunately being ranked with lower players, I would have to carry. After rage quitting many times do to last second goals because my teammate couldn’t press the jump button. I quit 2s entirely.
After quitting twos I realized that there was a game mode that you didn’t have to rely on teammates. So I grounded ones.
I ultimately got into diamond 2 of ones and just worked on mechanics, it was at that time when I managed to play 3 1v1s vs a GC, which I lost by one every game. The point was, I was keeping up at the GC level, but couldn’t manage to get over the hump off ranking up. I then went back to 2s and ranked up from plat, to champ 1 where I then ultimately plummeted to diamond 1. I then quit the game. Fast forward and I haven’t played RL in a year, until now. I just got back into playing RL, everything feels new. Except 1s, I just went from plat 1 to plat 3 in a day. 2EZ. What is new? Idk. I’m playing RL again, and hopefully, for a long time. Also I only have 200 hours in the game.
