    I prefer Murphy's, too...okay...so I'm a bit biased.

Murphy's was first brewed in Cork, Ireland. It was bought by Heineken, both are brewed in a sizeable brewery in Cork City Centre.

Prefer Guinness in a pub, but Murphy’s pours better from a can compared to Guinness Better pour = better taste.

I picked up a four pack of Murphy's for St. Patrick's Day. I looked at the back of the can and it said "Edinburgh, Scotland.

I’ve never really been into beer and I’ve just drank Guinness my whole life because it’s fairly well-known and it was basically the first beer i ever tasted. I’ve started watching beer reviews and I’ve tried many others but Ive found myself always going back to a Guinness. I wanted to find a stout similar to Guinness beacause that was my favourite but I couldn’t find anything similar to Guinness apart from Murphys and after watching this video for the first time I tried it and loved it and now it’s my go to. Thanks 👍.

Didn't like any other Irish Dry Stouts?

  • @cigh7445

Both Beamish and Murphy's are Cork stouts whereas Guinness is Dublin and standard everywhere.
Guinness is number one all over the country, but you rarely get the other two too far from Cork. Guinness is standard whereas Murphy's divides opinion more and is a favourite of many a 'connoisseur'.
Murphy's (and Beamish) is best when you get it in Cork, for the simple reason that it is served regularly there and the taps are kept running.
Guinness on the other hand is what I would order outside of Cork, because Beamish and Murphy's are more likely to have been left in the barrels longer and thus not as fresh.
I do think I agree with you on the cans, canned Murphy's just works that bit better than canned Guinness. Maybe because canned drinks are often less fresh and Murphys has that sweetness to it that gives it an edge. Canned Guinness just never hit the spot for me.

If I was in a pub in England or Ireland I would go for Guinness everytime but here in America where I can really only get the canned stuff (As opposed to a shit pour in an American bar) I go for Murphys.

The fruit note probably would be from the yeast my guess as you are drinking it a room Temp. Murphy's is suggested to serve at 40°F. Also Murphy's uses cane sugar in their receipe. I even have e the clone receipe for that beer. I prefer it over Gunniess any day. The 2 companies go way back, but Gunniess was able to pull ahead of the marketing industry which help promote their product better. I've read that the people in Ireland are more loyal to Murphy's over Guinness because I think it made the recipe a few years before Gunniess. I'm not knock Gunniess, I'm giving an honest opinion and sharing what I've learned.

Good review Dean. Guinness from a can always seems rather watery to me. If I have Guinness it will be foreign export from a bottle, there is a West Indian pub in Leicester and they have a rather interesting machine that apparently makes the head better and makes it taste better. Perchance I shall visit in January.
