    I was buying my weekly Guinness when I ran into a guy who loved Guinness Extra Stout. He said he couldn't do the Draught. I had the only Extra Stouts the store had, so I placed both of them in his cart and grabbed the Draught because I love both. He was surprised with such a young buck liking Guinness.

    Love the review and its content. I’m no beer expert but my personal thoughts and preferences after decades of Guinness drinking specifically...I would add the occasion as a factor. Draught is for drinking around strangers at social events when you are being on your good behavior. Extra Stout is when you want to just drink all night with your friends and adult family at your favorite spot. The draught should be thought of like a Guinness Light to remind you to drink it during the day time until dinner. Drink the Extra Stout when the kids have gone home to bed. Draught is more like smooth Guinness heaven water after a couple and its a good starter. The extra stout seems to hold itself together still after several and will keep you at a leisurely pace all night long. I expect my family and friends to bury me with some of both for the long walk home.

    • @BeerBrackets
      @BeerBrackets  Рік тому

      Thank you so much for the kind words my friend! You are absolutely correct that the occasion plays into a beer experience so much. Even though some critics could argue that the Extra stout is a "superior beer" in terms of character, flavour, etc, it's the experience of having a draught and the occasion of it all, having a well poured pint at a pub, that will always make it better in our minds.

    • @KeithAvila
      @KeithAvila 10 місяців тому

      That’s what I thought kinda lol… the draught was so thick that I couldn’t drink it fast but it was more about the taste. Even if I wanted to chug them, I don’t think I could but at a social event I could see myself drinking 4 of these slowly getting a light buzz and enjoying the taste

    Lads, loved your review on the draught and the extra stout and l am hard press but most likely lean towards the draft.
    Now l tried the Guinness foreign extra stout @ 7.5 ABV in a 11.2 0z bottle and was blown away! IMO this is by far the best of the 3
    With a strong note of chocolate and dried figs albeit not being boozy. Sipping this is way better than drinking the draft. It gives you
    All the flavors that the other 2 have but more intense. It’s like this is what Guinness is supposed to taste like.

    What is the difference between Guinness Foreign Extra Stout and Guinness stout?
    Guinness Foreign Extra Stout - Wikipedia
    First brewed by Guinness in 1801, FES was designed for export, and is more heavily hopped than Guinness Draught and Extra Stout, which gives it a more bitter taste, and typically has a higher alcohol content (at around 7.5% ABV).

    Do you think that the fact that the draught is 4.2% abv while the extra stout is 5.6% abv. might have in some way influenced your rating of these beers? And for the record, I must go with the extra stout as my favorite. I also feel it makes a superior black and tan. Cheers!

    • @BeerBrackets
      @BeerBrackets  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I’m sure the abv plays a role in all the different rating categories, yeah. • @ejrupp9555

    A Guinness stout, a black (Guinness) and tan (Bass pale ale), and a Guinness draught, in that order. In the 80's, In New Orleans, at the end of St Charles Ave, Cooter Brown's Tavern (still there) called that triplet, Stayin'a'while. It had a higher ABV back then and the glass (actual 16 ounce pints) had a clover key engraved on the bottom. One of the bartenders had a 'lavatory key on a wooden ruler' that he'd put on the bar-back where you were sitting. We guessed that the way he turned it was letting him know what to pour next. When he placed it, the key was a different color than the back ground and on your second he would turn it and the key was the same color. On the third he would pretend to hand it to you and then tap the bar with it. It wasn't actually a key to the restroom. I think it had it's roots as 'to go pissing' in the old country meant to go bar hopping. Instead you were just sitting there instead of hopping, so you were just pissing and not going anywhere.

    • @BeerBrackets

      Intensity of flavor does not equal better. Beer is also about being refreshing and can be delicious even when mild in intensity. Extra stout is pallet fatiguing and overly bitter in an unbalanced way. Guinness draught is engineered to appeal to more people on average, hence it’s specific flavor profile, balance, and mouth feel. It is an objectively superior beer in this way.

Far from it, in fact they were the second-LAST group to settle in Ireland (the Normans invaded in 1170). The Celts (pronounded "Kelts") arrived in Ireland many centuaries prior to the Vikings and they in turn displaced previous peoples who had been there since at least 3000BC. But still, great video!
