Rhinebacher is my go-to at the moment. Absolutely love the stuff it’s a steal. Would have been interesting if you included the canned rhinebacher too as despite being the same abv they are different beers, can tell as the nutritional info is a lot different. Bottled is better though.
Steinhausser any time if I had a choice steinhausser donor kebab super model in suspenders chicken madras I would pick steinhausser any time. Thank God for ALDIs
Just found out the Steinhauser is brewed by DAB (Dortmunder Actien Brauerei). Used to love DAB beer, when Le Shuttle opened up in 1994 you could pick a slab of DAB beer (24 x 500 ml) for £7 - great days. 😂 Especially during France ‘98 World Cup. Many a good evening spent in Cite Europe in the restaurant downstairs that brewed their own beer. Than a DAB crate in the fridge for when you got home lol
Prarmo was my go to... If... It was in stock! Everyone loved it and in Aldis wisdom, they said sales were not good, so, stopped selling it! Similar to Perlenbacher but solid, whereas Perlenbacher is hit and miss - great or water! 89p to £1.49 over a couple of years... Still... Chilled properly over a few days, it's worth it still.
Can't beat Aldi for their Beers. I like that Rossini and Mapelli. Best is, they're both brewed in Italy. So sooner have the Mapelli over Morreti for that alone.
I have said the same thing many times. As I feel before even watching this video I already know what he is going to roughly say about each beer, as most of them Simon has reviewed before.
Rheinbacher Pilsner for me. 4.5% and around £3.59 for four cans. I always, always, always pick some up when in store even if I'm just popping in for bread and milk 😂
It’s because they’d rather sell fake German lager like Rheinbacher which is brewed in France at a better profit margin. It’s smoke and mirrors with Aldi and Lidl, I personally think you can get better bang for your buck elsewhere on genuine German or Czech beer.
As always a great review, hands on, no messing about, and a honest conclusion. For me it's Steinhauser always, quality beer for a good price. What's great is the fact you can still do quick maths in your head for the unit pricing, even after a few beers.. 😀
Absolute legend 😊. Love your vids and im trying more beers from aldi than ever before. I just love the way you began that marathon beer tasting really sharp and like a pro, then, by the end, you sounded like its 12 midnight in the middle of a boss drinking sesh 😂❤. Great informative honest reviews. Thanks mien heir 🍺
Great video, found your channel a few months back and love it! Since your video on the Steinhauser I have always had that in my fridge too, it's a class beer. That and Jeremy Clarkson's Hawkstone Lager are my two favourite lagers. Keep up the good work with these fantastic reviews and if your ever in Brighton, England - I'd love to have a beer with you!
Can't argue with that. Whenever I meet up with old mates (who aren't into your IPAs or pales), we'll always bring along Rheinbacher (Aldi) or Perlenbacher (Lidl) Pils. They're quality and great value for money.
Will try the Steinhäuser in the summer. The Grand Rossini was missing, though it may also have tasted too sweet compared to the crisp lagers at the time, the Grand Rossini is great. The 1897 is not good at all.
That's most likely because it's copying the UK licensed 1664 not the OG French one. Saying that, after a visit to France a few weeks ago for the first time in about six years I was surprised to see the original 1664 has been dropped to 5.5pc ABV compared to last time I had it when it was at least 1pc higher.
Great review, like the other comment I’d love to see blind rating challenge’s, best to worst followed by reveal, would remove any bias or preconceived judgements
It’s interesting (and this isn’t a dig mate) but you did a video about how Rheinbacher has changed a few years ago (lowered the ABV and changed the quality) and said it wasn’t a patch on the original. But now you really like it again. Do you think the quality has increased or we have just got used to it? I’m the same - I don’t mind it now whereas when it changed there was a definite decrease in quality. Also, the 660 bottle is the Rossini Gran Reserva, not Rheinbacher. Rheinbacher did have a 660 for Oktoberfest last year but didn’t do it this year.
Great review video! I've tried a fair few of Aldi lagers you have in this review out of curiosity - The Rossini Gran Reserva (Not reviewed here) is the standout IHO and @ £2.49 per bottle can stand up easily to what products the mainstream supermarkets offer in their 3 for whatever offers. Must admit, I purchased a box of the 6x Steinhauser bottles via a recommendation based on one of your previous videos but, We'll have to agree to disagree - I just couldn't get on with them at all.
i am not a lager fan but i do like their gran riserva reminds me of the great peroni beers i had in sorrento including some ipa style and imperials and red beers pity they dont sell them in uk
Hello Simon, not sure how chilled the lagers on test were. Makes such a difference. Cold Galahad not a bad drink at all, much better than Fosters/carling.
I don't have Aldi where i live but this was very interesting and informative. Started watching your videos this weekend and i already have learned tonnes of info. Appreciate the time it takes to do all this - thanks
Excellent review bud . I drink the pilsener you had in the bottle My go to beer. Just one or 2 when kids go to bed. Craft beers for weekends. They do it in cans. 4 cans for just over 3.50 I think. Is it the same beers I think so because I’ve never seen the bottles in my York Aldi. Keep up the good work bud. And as another watcher mentioned a blind taste test would be good fun maybe do a collaboration. With your misses 👍👍
A six pack of the Steinhauser gives me heart palpitations the next afternoon. Never had this with any other beer. Anyone else get this? Great beer though. Only started with it after Simons earlier video about it. Cheers 🍻
You know what would happen if the mainstream supermarkets picked up Steinhauser....they'd start brewing it over here to cut costs and ruin it. No thank you 🤢
Cheers, my man! I’m drinking this one right now on a beautiful southern Cali fall evening. Loving it! Subbed. Good luck with the new channel going forward! 🍻

Fantastic video again Simon. Lidl beers would be another great one. Asda now stock bottles of Veltins Pilsner. I know you did the can review 5 years ago but I wonder if things are different now with your love of German beers?
Great review simon i bet you finished the top 2 beers of and binned the others down the drain, love German beers and that’s down to you, been in my local Poundland and picked up some Warsteiner premium beer 660 ml bottles 4.8 ABV for 2 pounds a bottle.
Great review and completely agree with Steinhauser & Reinbacher 👍🏻. Was the beer you couldn’t get the Rossini Gran Reserva? Also Boa is good stuff👌🏻. Maybe take the two winners and add Rossini Gran Reserve & Boa into the mix? Just highlights more great beers from Aldi 👍🏻.
I have heard you say you are leaning toward lagers more as of recently. This is not surprising in a way. I love big heavy complex ales. But from time to time they seem to put my palate into overload and I find I just need a clean, simple, refreshing beer. A sort of palate cleansing or perhaps a palate reset. Larger is perfect for this purpose. I must confess I do like Helles and Dortmunder better than Pilsner. Cheers!!

This is a Useful video as I've only tried a couple of Aldi lagers before.
Desperado is about getting pissed and I am here for that. When you are 8 pints in and want something sweeter
I genuinely only drink for the effect. No point ignoring that! I've never understood non-alchoholic beers. Desperado is appalling, but effective.

Yep. Like they ruined staraproma and numerous other decent brews
