I went through Marine Corps boot camp back in 1998, back when drill instructors could still slap you in the back of the head or punch you in the gut if you did something wrong, our "shark attack" was literally everyday for the entire 12 weeks of training, I saw a recruit get smoked by his DIs 1 day before graduation.
Awesome man, we didn’t choose this new boot camp method, if we could make it the old days again we would but we can’t, quit shitting on soldiers just cause they didn’t go what you did, not our fault man, we didn’t choose this

I'm so confused, so they're changing fundamentals and replacing the shark attack because they don't like the degradation of singling people out or intimidating them? That was such a major part of basic training tho, is this to be applied as a standard throughout all of training or just the "Thunder Run". Speaking of which I still don't quite understand wtf it is, or the whole point of this ordeal. Seems weird to get rid of the shark attack and just compensate for it with another team building exercise in red phase. Also if they're getting rid of the shark attack wtf happens when you arrive to your troop? They just calmly instruct you to get off the bus?
They still get yelled at but instead of yelling and cursing. They punish you more Physically. I went to Basic Training in 96 and believe me it wasn't a cake walk. Drill Sergeants can call you names and sometimes Physically Hurt you. We got push out and yank out of the cattle truck on our arrival. Even on white Phase if your Platoon fuck up they will turn you back to RED Phase. I have seen that happened all the way to their graduation day. So Basically they have change the way they conduct orders.
Is it wrong for the Army to look for ways to improve basic training? Maybe these changes will improve things, maybe not. I think we can agree that the past basic training did not weed out the turds.
