At BCT and AIT friends are nice, but your main focus should be on doing your best and passing everything. Friends/just people to talk to are nice if you're doing something like cleaning your rifles which in white/blue phase you will have a lot of time to do. We would spend 8+ hours a day sometimes just clearing our M4's which got very boring and usually ended up people just talking. I did split ops for the Guard so I did BCT the summer of my Jr year and when I graduate I have to go to AIT. I should find out soon when I leave. I liked going in the summer because the heat might suck, but at least for us we got buses just about everywhere and when it's not that hot at places like Ft Benning you walk everywhere.
Friends shouldn’t be your first priority for BCT. Make sure to try your hardest at everything and have integrity. Friends are ok for cleaning time or at AIT. Everything will be ok.
