    I became an atheist at a young age and went through the typical "militant atheism" phase. People like David Wood got me off that train which was probably headed somewhere bad. I may not agree with his beliefs on the Christian faith but what an excellent man and a shining example of self education.

      Its public information. Everybody knows it. And he knows it and that is why he knows he has to keep it in check. He doesnt try to hide this fact about himself, in fact he even uses it as an argument when he is on debates.

      Diagnosed psychopath- - -which best explains him way more than any ancient fable like the bible or quran. His bible would have said he was possessed by a demon,
      There's no choice with his psychopathy, but believers will say he has this "free will".

      Leonardo's Truth For Catholics, I think it does, because you need to confess sins or they don't get forgiven. Hence suicide is unforgivable. But Protestants don't see it that way. So it depends.

      It's unfortunate that so many people can't seem to get past the mental illness and subsequent conversion to Christianity. Christian or Atheist, the issues he brings up about moral relativism in the absence of an external moral standards are real. We may reject the standard he chose, but I don't think the argument is without merit. .

    What a thoroughly enchanting fellow. Despite being an atheist myself I have been impressed by Woody's eloquence in the past and his refutation of Muslim apologetics is masterful. Frankly if Christianity is the monolith that keeps him grounded and allows such scholarship then more power to his organ.

    I'm agnostic and David wood was the first person I followed because he was rhe only one talking about things in islam that I have grown up around as a non muslim amongst many muslims. Everyone else in the west was too delusional to even understand the criticisms, but David elaborated each topic point by point. Love it. I Do not see myself ever turning to Christianity or any religion, but David wood has my support when it comes to spreading awareness about the creeping sharia in the west.

      +MrToby9999 You have to argue while "standing" somewhere. There is no outside, unbiased point to neutrally observe when it comes to belief about what is true. We all stand somewhere.
      I could conversely say that if anyone brought in a position other than Christianity that it devalues their credibility as a critic of any religion--but that would be just as unfair.
      We evaluate an argument's veracity not by the speaker's position,
      but by the veracity of his argument (by its evidences and how it conforms the data we have about reality).

    What an interesting story. I didn't know quite a lot of the things David revealed here.
    I have more respect for David after watching this. He doesn't try to hide anything about his past (whereas a lot of people who have had mental health issues do because of the stigma) He simply tells it like it is.
    David is a very intelligent and well spoken guy and I've learned a hell of a lot from his videos and i never seem to be able to find fault in the things he says or the points he makes.
    Great video.

  • @gurugeorge

    Interesting character. His videos are very good and he has a wry sense of humour. I was atheist by conviction from about 6 years old, when I rejected Roman Catholic Catechism, so I can't really see the value in Christianity, and I've never come across anything since then that has changed my mind. I also disagree that naturalism has no resources to make morality solid enough (though not absolute) in its foundations.
    But while I'm wary of religion in general, and of Islam in particular, I wouldn't say I positively hate religion to the degree that some atheists seem to, and intelligent Christians (as opposed to the easy marks you see on atheist vids) are always worth listening to, as are intelligent religionists of any stripe.
    People often forget that many of the greatest thinkers and artists of the West were committed Christians, and many other religions have produced top class thinkers and doers too.
    The bottom line is that nobody really knows what the over-arching context of the sheer existence of anything at all is, so projecting some possibility into that space of the unknown is no sin, if it gives a person some sense of stability and focus in life. It's really only when people impose their ideas by force that you get problems.

    David Wood, is awesome, I really like is videos, and his smart ellic way of getting his message across , because it cuts straight thru the bs, no sugar coating, you do not have any doubt about what he is trying to convey, and it is very funny at times. My teenagers , are IMO hard to get to, but one video of Davids, they quickly were interested and understanding the message very quickly. And this is important today, almost every time i go on you tube or ect ect, where our children also are spending much of their time....social media, I am constantly being sold on islam by SALESMEN, muslims, and where are they crossing my path, is on christian videos, and fb pages, its like they are camping out there waiting for someone to sell their false bs too. and they are very very good at it, but after watching some of davids videos, i can quickly not only discredit their arguments, but show them where they are following a false religion. So davids videos arms us against islams salesmen so to speak, which are like in training courses or something because they use the same exact verses from the bible and surahs from the qoran. but they really do not know what their own quoran teaches many times. and they have like memorized a handful of verses , and are usually the same verses, that are totally misinterpreted. So I for one appreciate david, and his team of apologists for all they do.

    Dr Gad and Dr David: two of the BEST, truly academic, commentators on the Islamisation Project today! Writing from the UK, I am afraid our Political Class (unlike your new President!) is entirely in cahoots with the Project. They have put the 'rights' of Muslims to not "be offended" before the rights of their indigenous population, and our tourist guests, to be safe on our streets. I can tell you that, at 65, the streets of the UK's cities are NOTHING like as safe as they were when I was a child in the Fifties and Sixties. EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED; but our Political Class tells us that "we are the same"; and it is all part of our imagination!

    • @Mark_Dyer1
      @Mark_Dyer1 7 років тому

      Dr Wood: You are far too optimistic. It does not take an OT prophet to interpret the signs. Douglas Murray's excellent work, THE STRANGE DEATH OF EUROPE, summarises what is happening perfectly. ISLAM is embarked on a project (for which it has been preparing for three generations; courtesy of Saudi Arabia) to fulfil its 'entitlement'. That 'entitlement' is to have the BEST of our planet for Muslims. The BEST in the WEST: therefore Muslims are entitled to the WEST without having had to fight our own tyrants to get here!

  • @Rubashow
    @Rubashow 8 років тому +3

    Psychopathy is not insanity. A psychopath isn't insane. Somebody who is insane cannot comprehend the nature of his actions. They do not possess 'mens rea'. They are disordered in a manner that makes them unable to assume guilt in from of a court. A psychopath knows that what he does is wrong in the eyes of society. They just don't care.
    A psychopath knows that some actions are against common concepts of decency or against the law. He can chose to violate rules. That is why he cannot plead for insanity.
    A schizophrenic who has voices in his head and optic hallucinations who tell him that he just has to burn that orphanage down is insane. He has lost his connection to reality and when he has some surge of his mental illness he cannot assume responsibility for his actions.

    "The bedrock argument in atheism is the problem of evil"... uh, no. The bedrock argument for atheism is a lack of evidence for a god. Propositions are not accepted for their good or bad nature, but for reasons of their veracity. Unless you are religious...

      "The bedrock argument for atheism is a lack of evidence for a god."
      From a historical perspective, there's simply no contest between these two. The problem of evil is overwhelmingly more significant. But even today, if I'd have to take a guess, I'd say that the problem of evil is discussed more by professional philosophers in the relevant academic journals, etc.
      "Propositions are not accepted for their good or bad nature, but for reasons of their veracity. Unless you are religious..."
      Kind of vague, but this does lead me to question whether you even understand what type of argument that the problem of evil is intended to be.

    • @bboyagua
      @bboyagua 8 років тому

      The problem of evil is a refutation of a benevolent god in control of the universe. Apologists often respond with appeals to free will, or the devils, djinns, shaytun, or demons that Abrahamic scripture always include. However, the portrayal of god is NEVER of a benevolent god other than in name, who is vengeful, deceitful, and ever-hungry for sacrifice and praise. The problem of evil shouldn't be why god lets evil exist, rather why is god evil. As a rhetorical device it's about as convincing to someone interested in reality as the evidence for the truth of religions claims is.

      There would be plenty to discuss with regard to issues like what's the correct epistemic stance in light of supposed lack of evidence for various types of claims, what criteria could be used to most objectively evaluate the claim that there's no evidence, whether or not there are particular reasons to suppose that there would/would not be much evidence for the truth of Theism if Theism were true, etc. And some of this is in fact discussed quite regularly. There's the argument from divine hiddenness, the argument from nonbelief, etc.

      Cloe, I see you comment on videos like this quite often, but I just have to ask, do you see atheism as anything more than a lack of belief in a God or higher power because it always seems like you advocate for it like it's some kind of identity? I recently watched Dave Rubin's interview with George Carlin's daughter and it was either you or someone else who commented that George was cowardly for not openly calling himself an atheist, even though he mocked religion in his act. Doesn't it seem self defeating to try and build up atheism into something more than its definition?

There were other reasons as I am Ukrainian by origin but my vision of future in Germany is pretty dark - a civil war or a slow genocide. It includes German Jews. Where are they going to go? And why some Jews are blindly support migration of millions of Muslims to the Western Europe.

    DAVID WOOD, is a fundamentalist. Deeply frustrated about truths deprivation, he finally opted for christianism, on the base of friendship. He could also be identified as the perfect psychopath under control. He just failed to address the normal anxiety of being human. To live in society ( he admitted being antisocial), has a basic determination to contradictions. Religious beliefs, after admitted atheism, is for me, a quick step to avoid anxiety, like a calming substitute. He has to go further in his questionning. Being part of the Universe and, becoming conscious of origins, put in perspective the anxiety. In the hatta yoga, a risky endeaviour, human consciousness reach a state of relativity. The component duality of being human and, probably other states, is clearly stated in our evolution.
    Since the moment of homosapien, sapien, the model of Theillard DECHARDIN, in his complexification conscience, appears pretty close representation of reality. We are dust of stars (don't remember the author). As such, we participated of non existence ( as cosmologic inferences) to existence, the same way that Universe is knowned to us by conscience and researches. In those aspects, if religious beliefs are not a purpose, the thinking processes was pretty close to illumination. Humans are a composite of brain and body, completed by consciousness. At experience, consciousness prevaled to restrictive embodyment. Up to a point, we choose to temporality of original call, knowing perfectly well that we belong to something else, consciousness. That's the domain of plenitude that is reached by dissociation ( not psychotic). As long we live, we constantly oscillated between those two (2) tendancies. At term, illumination bring us back to plenitude and pure joy, a state of non existence, pointing in all directions. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THE BOAT, ACTIVATE YOUR CONCIOUSNESS OR YOU'LL STALL IN WHAT HAS BEEN CALL PURGATORY, WICH I, FOR ONE, DON'T WANT TO BE STALL IN. Gerry

    Great talk.... I find David's videos on Islam incredibly informative and beautifully argumented and all that, but I cannot wrap my head around the fact that he doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact that, while discussing the mental gymnastics of Muslim apologists, being a Christian apologist, he has to perform the same kind of mental gymnastics defending his own holy book... You know, the bible... Which was arguably one of the greatest sources for the qur'an.

Vermonter101 I'm finishing reading the qur'an as we speak, thank you... so which version of the bible are you talking about? and do you mean the whole bible or only the new testament? if you read both you should have no doubt that there is vastly more genocide, stoning of children and other atrocities in the bible than in the qur'an... also, the qur'an is in large part copied from the bible, so yes, I think both books are equally disqualified as moral guides.

    Invite Robert Spencer next, would be a wonderful show. Would love to see what he thinks is going on with the pope's comments regarding Islam and that Catholics and Muslims serve the same god. It would be uncomfortable but I think no one could speak to this as well as Robert Spencer. As Catholics in the USA tend to vote as a block, if the Catholics decided to side with Islam because the pope does, it would make the small number of Muslims we currently have, as though we had a huge number. So it is something to discuss.

    I'm really hoping that Jordan Peterson and David Wood are going to have some kind of a discussion at some point. There are multiple reasons for why this should happen:
    1. It would be interesting to hear David's take on some of Peterson's ideas about religion.
    2. It would be interesting to hear Peterson's perspective as a psychologist on David's past.
    3. Peterson has talked about wanting to learn more about Islam. David could help him with that to some extent.
    4. David's knowledge about Islam and the Jihadi mindset as well as his dark past combined with Peterson's psychological knowledge would probably result in something very interesting if they spent some time discussing various ideas about Islamic radicalization and terrorism.
    5. David has some ideas about psychology of religion applied to Muhammad. It would be great to hear Peterson commenting on those.

    Nice chat, but after viewing several of David's videos on the problems with Islam, i was surprised to learn that he was an atheist who converted to Christianity, a religion with as much blood on its hands as Islam. And whose myths are just as bizarre, minus the flying horse with wings on which Muhammad allegedly ascended to paradise. Another bastion of religious make believe.
    It never ceases to amaze me how reasonably intelligent people can shut off their critical thinking and reasoning skills and embrace such mythological and unproveable nonsense. Which is just another example of magical thinking and the need to believe in an after-life. To help David get back on track and dispense with the organized make-believe called religion, i would like to suggest that he pick up a copy of " The Atheist's Guide To Reality" by Alex Rosenberg which will help explain why people believe the things they do and how to deal with such illusions. It's a terrific book and well worth the time. As Mark Twain once said..."Faith is believing in things that ain't so."
