I tried purchasing from there in the US. I don’t see any option to buy? Is it due to it not officially releasing yet? I’ve never used this website before
@@SpaceAgeDiaper not sure what the delay is but I'll make a post when I know what is happening
@@Phrosphor I might have saw/heard someone else mention that the game releases on July 18th. I’m thinking that could be the cause of delay.
Checking the site again I still don’t see an option
Yup I confirm the game will be available to buy on release day. :)
Hello! I am 1000% still watching! it's been way too long but i am so unbelievably honored to be a part of your opening squad in Xenonauts 2!! May my soldier fight bravely!!!
To explain reaction fire, since it's often misunderstood:
If the reacting unit's (%TUs remaining x Reaction stat) > the acting unit's (%TUs remaining x Reaction stat) then they get a snap fire shot. It's entirely deterministic, it isn't a probablity, and if you want your troops to snap fire you're better off leaving them with ALL their TUs than a fraction. This is exactly the way it worked in UFO Defence.
Side effects:
Effective reaction is a combination of TUs and reaction stat. High reaction troops are better for scouting corners, since they're less likely to trigger enemy reaction fire early in their turns - but any movement (or fire - any spend of TUs can trigger reaction fire) when you're low on TUs in front of an enemy with TUs remaining is risky.
A note here about OG UFO. It was often sensible to skip the first turn, because the aliens started with full TUs and would almost always get snap fire against your troops as they left the dropship. Skipping the turn allowed them to spend TUs moving around and shooting civilians, so they'd have less free for reaction.
Neat.
Yes great strategy but was funny when someone gets mind controlled and fires a rocket killing the whole team. OG ufo was the best
@@charminjarmin1234 Or forgetting to spend TUs on your rocket dudes and having them reaction fire into the heads of your front rank. Good times, good times.
When you have an extra sniper, Discocaddy is reporting for duty
You got it! And welcome aboard soldier! I might make you a rifleman to get exp on the way! And thanks for joining the channel!
I take it you were in xynns long war campaign.
@@batboy555 one and the same
@scottycheesecake yeah. He's a very good player.
Love the “totally not a Cylon” impromptu bit. He totally looks like Balthazar.
Well he is not a cylon as all the 7 humanoid cylons were identifed. He is a messager though same as Caprica Six
@@kennif78 Yeah. Just keeping it simple.
Easily the best video I have seen about this game. Everyone else stumbles around, doesn't even bother to place their soldiers correctly in the landing craft and then they get half the team killed during the mission. Really looking forward to more videos about this from you. Thanks. :)
God i love it when ppl who understands the mechanics makes quality gaming content!
Legitimately super excited for this. Been looking for more Xenonauts for a long time. I have the air combat music as one of my driving to work songs.
Awesome! I am very excited to get deeper into the campaign this time!
Looks like the store isn't live yet. I'll update when I know more.
Exited for this! love that you got the early access campaign.
Yeah I am very happy it worked out!
This is a late comment, but please don’t worry about missions dragging on!! This is a slow methodical tactical combat game, treat it as such or face the consequences (death)!
Awesome to see you cover this some more!
Was a bit of an ouch though to see you dismiss your bravest soldier, only surpassed in strength by one other soldier, with the third highest HP and TU, for accuracy reasons - ACC seems to be one of the easiest stat to level up and holding a shield to be the first to peek a dangerous corner doesn't require accuracy
Agreed
I was very worried about red stats as I had some bad experiences in testing with a couple of red statted soldiers getting overrun because they couldn't hit anything/got panicked very quickly. I might have been a bit harsh but if this is the worst mistake I make on the strategy layer then I will be pretty happy honestly.
U can use the shield guy as cover by crounching behind them.
Early game, the enemy shouldn't have grenade so u can use them at close range. By mid game, use that outside of grenade throwing range
Here we go! 💪🏾🚀
Thx for all the explainations for us new ppl and i really love your tactical playstyle
Been waiting for this since and *because* of your demo playthrough.
Sweet, I have bene so excited for this coming out!
I must admit. this game is better than XCOM. It gives you more freedom and statistics of your actions with in-depth preview so that you don't make a stupid decision where your units just keep dying. As a XCOM long war player, this game is a blessing. you gained a sub for your superior commandability.
Thank you for watching and for the Sub! I agree with what you say here, it is a lot less forgiving.
Yes! A Xenonauts 2 playthrough! Very nice.
In poker we call it going on tilt. Where you get impatient and make a bunch of mistakes and it snowballs.
Every once in a while you fail right into a lucky break and that feels amazing. good first mission!
Praise the algorithm!
Most of my actual thoughts are on Discord, but I figured commenting here is useful. Happy to have Chystka Sturova and/or Mishaps in the name pool once you get through the supporters
Praise the algorithm! And thanks for posting your thoughts!

Turn units? Time units!! Every time you say "turn units" I shout "TIME UNITS!!!" Then as you suddently said Time Units once I cheered! xD
Really wish they remade X-Com as well as they did Xeno1 and Xeno2.
3:30 Ah a BSG reference, a true man of culture.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PHROSPHOR DOESN'T MISS WITH GAMES! I didn't know they released their Early Access! I'll be surely following this series as I play on my own!
Good luck! It should drop on the 18th!
Yesss!
Nice BSG reference, thank you! :)
Nice to see xenonauts 2 again . I was in the livestreams of the demo (if I remember correct) can’t to see more videos about it .
Yes, I am excited to get my teeth into it this time! I did a livestream of the game for Turn-Based Fest earlier in the year that I remember you from!
@@Phrosphor nice ! Just wondering but when conquest comes to nebulous and the story scenario comes out will you be streaming it ?
@@razorback8300 yes for sure! I am very excited. We are already making plans on my discord!
Is there accuracy penalty when carrying item offhand, like in original UFO`s?
Love tis game❤ Really fun to watch cant wait for ep 2
Woohoo, some more Xenonauts!
Cool those riot shield guys were good for stepping off the dropship and looking around for enemies on tge first turn and chargin into alien ships as the first guy to maybe tank a shot or two and live long enough to fuire back or bash the aliens head in with the stun battons or just find the aliens si you can throw granades at them with other charecters
Gaius frakking Baltar
You know, it could actually be canon...
really good explanation of how to not die thank you
Hehe, hitman team. I see that project wingman reference.
If ANYONE is going to shoot down a UFO in a Mig-25 it's Monarch.
Microprose made this exact game literally 30 years ago. It was called X-Com: UFO Defense.
Yes this is basically the updated version. I don't think they're exactly hiding their inspiration
Xenonauts is meant to be a spiritual successor to the original X-Com, unlike the modern XCOMs which went in a different direction.
2001 called and wants their game back
Let’s get some!!!
Hope I’m not too late to the party to join in potentially haha
No not at all! And thank you so much!
That introduction. So good.
Thank you!
I remember putting my manned bases on Crete and Cuba in X1.
I think I put a fighter base in South Africa and South Korea as well.
Whoo! Something you could do if you wanted to save some time on long missions where you are hunting one or two guys down to cut the hunting part out. And if you run out of supporters I'd be happy to play the heavy armored rifleman/lady.
Yeah I will be cutting stuff down in the future for sure!
This is like old school XCOM gameplay
It wears it's DNA pretty well It hink.
Randomly stumbled upon this and I really enjoy your explanations and am looking for more.
Put me in Commander, preferably as a support/medic or a Sniper I'm ok with either ;)
Welcome to the front line Trooper DieKao! Or is it RaiKao?
i came to the conclusion that the most important guns are assault rifles and sniper rifles, the mg is only good for suppression, but the same effect can be done with the assault the rest is not really wort it if you ask me except shield + stun gun + nades, i gave all my men the heavy armor + armor plate + aiming computer, so i had sniper and assault unites (occasionally when new enemy´s appear only then i used the shield + stun gun setup) with this setup all assault units also had med kits worked like a charm edit : you dont need c4. you can just mow down the doors that annoy you with gun fire holding strg
May I respectfully suggest to make up an assault team with explosives and shotguns, to blow up walls and doors :). That’s the way I use assault in Xeno-1.
Works great when you need to assault defensive position in buildings - flanking around and blowing up side walls with consequent assault
Well that was the plan with the C4, just for some reason it didn't load properly!
Hi Phros, do you recommend Xenonauts 2? How does it stack up against the competitors like XCOM or PP?
I think it's very good, but it is also still very much in early access. Right now the campaign stops in the midgame and the Devs have already made some pretty big (excellent) changes in their last update. I prefer it to XCom, at least the newer ones but I have never played PP so I can't give you a comparison there. I would always caution buying a game that isn't finished but I feel like this one is headed for great places.
This is the kind of remake I want for Jagged Alliance 2.
Honestly, after some thought, putting the first base in the Arabian Peninsula seems like a great option, given that we can cover parts of 4 regions with one base.
Or I could be full of shit, and that's a bad idea.
Check your corners! Well the glasses and hair color match. Here is hoping the couple of Trooper Kane and Marksman Kane make it through the first night mission. Will the stress of first contact cause one of the Kanes to leave the other? Find out next episode!
Also @Prosphor misclicks happen. You are not “a high speed low drag” squad operator maybe as a pilot. 😂
I watched it back and saw how the 'cloning' occurred. Causality violations will be resolved in the next instalment!
@@Phrosphor just play it off as a messy divorce.
Wait, the cleaners are basically EXALT?
...good. Hans, bring out the flamethrower. The *HEAVY* Flamethrower.
I have no idea *what* the cleaners look like under their MOP suits. We need to grab one ASAP for an autopsy and figure them out. There is quite a similarity though.
the supression feels a lot better than the last game. I don't know if thats actually true but it seems more tactically open.
Late, but PLEASE dont feel the need to rush. The methodical hunt with the chance for an alien around every corner is one of the best parts of xenonauts 1 early game.
Everyone else covering this seems to be in an XCOM 2 mindset, trying to run and gun and getting everyone killed. Do your thing, methodical is fun, especially with your good commentary.
Edit: also good to see explosives are still saving lives in xenonauts!
Hell yeh I love xenonuts
So having played Xenonauts 1, is the sequel like the original XCOM games where they take place in the same timeline and happen sequentially, or is this more of a "Hey, it's Xenonauts 1 again but with improvements from all that experience we got from making and releasing a video game"?
Nice, I was hoping you'd get back into Xenonauts. You're doing much better than last time so far. Interesting to see where your build differs from mine; I tend to invest much more heavily into close-range tactics and the use of smoke to safely move (for example, a smoke grenade at the alien cube behid the white truck would have protected your entire squad as you advanced down the street), so I'm excited to see how your squad does. Not prioritizing shields and assaults as premier soldiers feels weird to me!
Could I add the name Tobias 'Ultra' Boon to the list?
Just letting you know Boon is on the list!
I would to see an Aliens: Dark Descent playthrough on Nightmare difficulty, I think you will have a blast and so will your viewers!
It's on my list but I don't think my current PC can handle it sadly.
"Time units are important" : but some players like AngusoftheDandelion disagree it is true for Wildermyth.
Honestly with amount of change this can ez be just a mod for first game.
I tend to be more aggressive at the start in order to claim ground and tag aliens. I do this to save some civilians in the mission. Later, I tend to move towards civilians to save them. Overall, I tend to finish missions with a lot of injured soldiers, but they rarely die on me.
Hehe, starting with the Wingman references already, I see! I’ll throw my hat for a name in the ring: Shizuku Hironaka, any female with black hair.
An alternate future where X-com never evolved after the 90s haha
I hope this time they let the psionics research actually unlock psionics, was a very big letdown for it to be a "sorry, you wasted your time" last game, at least from what i hear, never got that far myself
I guess we will find out together!
Cant wait till i can buy this!!
The video is great, only one thing I don’t like: music too loud that I can’t heard you good enough apparently. Would be great to make music lower.
Audio balance is so tough but I will play around with it for next time.
@@Phrosphor I watched the whole video to the end, and the sound too loud only in the beginning, so the rest of the video was perfect! :) Hope that would make my comment a bit clearer! Keep up the good work, looking forward seeing more episodes!
10:50, Better dead than red, eh comrade?
I hope that slowly inching forward with overwatch isn't the dominant strategy in this game like it was in Enemy Unknown. And spending turns just waiting for the aliens to step in your line of sight. There should be incentives to be proactive. It's sad if a boring playstyle is the best strategically.
just hope they fix xenonauts 1 issues.....
and more maps...always ask for more maps.
bigger aliens ships.
and unlimited research :P
biggest problem when i played it mostly was the breach alien ship issue.
not so much a bug or anything, but mostly an impossible task unless you blow it up.
there all camping in there.
and games like this need like 200+ maps...or it gets very repetetive.
mostly modders make those.
so generate maps, perhaps even generate aliens,so you get endless research, via containment.
There is a lot of randomization in the maps for Xenonauts 2. I haven't seen anything too similar come up twice. I am scared for breaches when they come up though. Might try C4'ing the walls instead of going in through the door.
I will be playing Jagged Alliance 3 instead :D .
*Opens Helicopter ramp*
*Alien right in front of you makes surprised Pikachu face*
Me: "Ah, so it is the same as the old Xcom games, where you can be ambushed stepping off the ramp. This shall be good."
Modded Rim World (but only the combat)
That thumbnail is fire, got a link to it?
I can host it somewhere if you want, its just a midjourney prompt I worked on for awhile.
I cant play these games without savescumming

Throwing my hat in the ring for the cause I want ET off My Little like most never had my name pick 4 one of these sort of things wondering how it will go

I don't care how good a strategist you are, once you call a magazine for a firearm a "clip" you are done.
Not everybody is a freak about guns.
@10:30 the aircraft also look like mig-31.
Those are definitely MiG-25, the in-game description calls them modified MiG-25
@@alalalus7692 Didn't know the Mig-25 before this video. They look really similar.
@@Di3Leberwurst they do actually, yeah.
I love that your soldiers are actually semi-competent in this game rather than the hot garbage hit chances in modern Xcom
One of the problems of the original Xenonauts was that they've set up a special setting and... never really used it. We have the cold war, two large camps of human (not alien-aligned) forces at odds with each other, on the brink of war. You'd think that this would force you into a balancing act where you can try to improve relations with the two superpowers but also are at risk of getting filed (by one or, if you really screw up, both) as agent of the enemy, limiting your operations and adding extra threats.
Unfortunately, none of that was the case. The setting had basically no impact - the game could be set in normal timeline and nothing but some flavour text (not even that much or that important flavour text) would change.
I'm wondering if the new game explores and integrates the setting a bit more... I have yet to see signs of that, unfortunately.
xenonauts 2 still waiting for release...man.
Drops on the 18th, not that long to go!
Did you use an AI to make the video thumbnail
What exactly is the difference between this game and Xenonauts?
What a great game. In 1996.
Xenonauts 2 kinda looking just like a prettier xenonauts 1?
Which is kind of dissapoting since I kickstarted it way back when
So far it seems like it is exactly the same
I would temper expectations as this is literally the first few days of the campaign, once we get a bit deeper in the additions should show up. I will say that it plays Very smoothly and load times are pretty short.
Add me to the team if possible!
Sad to see stutters in the actual shots when they are executed like its lagging behind somehow. Happened in the first one too. I wonder if this is just a reskin.
Isn't this just basically the original XCom?
It is heavily inspired by it but has a lot of improvements especially in the UI dept.
I llike your video, but I think you were too quick to judge some people with one low skill. CPL. Yukai has low accuracy, but the hight health, strength, and bravery combined with the decent turn units would have made her a great scout. Load her down with armor and giver her a shield and an importan roll is filled by a skilled person.
Is it me or does the Commander looks like WW2 Nazi Germany general or maybe an SS officer? :D
Can't decide if I'm happy or disappointed that it looks like just a reskin of X1. Even after the reskin it still looks far worse than Enemy Unknown which is 11 years old now. But then, do graphics really matter? Edit: Just went and watched a few XCOM Enemy Unknown vids and yeah, so much better than this. X2 is so drab in comparison. Shame.
Man this just looks the same as xenonauts 1. Is this really all they have to show for all that time they spent developing this game?! I'm sure its still decent but wow im really disappointed so far... and its even launching to early access... its STILL not ready.
i cant back money ,,,game its copy XCOM 2
XCOM 2
build base
save earth
Xenonauts 2 same build base and save earth
Do you know the X-com Vs Xenonaught history? Who made what first? Are there parts of one team in parts of this team?? This game looks like a giant turd graphically. This is a web browser looking game lol. But I totally see and appreciate all the depth it has. This game looks so much funner than the last couple of X-com games!
XCOM came first back in 1994. The remake that was released in the 00's was sufficiently different from the original that Xenonauts was made to be closer to the original experience but updated for modern times.
To me modern XCOM is about superheroes taking on the aliens, but 'nauts is more of a tactics and strategy game. Although GameOfKane is a little op.
You keep talking about risky plays, but you continue doing them. Personally, if it is not a time sensitive scenario with multiple objectives on a map, I never split up my guys like that to do a task on their own. At a very least, I would had sent those two assaults to clear that side of a map from two different directions. I do not trust my soldiers to do anything alone besides sitting in a cover and covering a flank.
The biggest culture shock I saw is how you casually peek the corner with an exhausted and isolated soldier to check if there are any aliens around the corner. That is really bad in my book, because you expose yourself to high risk of reaction fire and you activate an alien without an ability to do anything about it.
what makes this xenonauts 2 and not xenonauts 1.5? I see same bland graphics gameplay and lack of story telling. Also i like how you gave the wrong person the sniper role XD
Why you praising the devs for making a decent xcom clone?
Because it’s meant to be a game more heavily inspired by the original X-com? So it successfully doing that is worthy of praise?
Stop rushing. No one who watches XCOM-like content enjoys rushed, sloppy, plays. Long form content is appreciated and if we found it boring we wouldn't be into this genre of game.
Stopped watching when you started dismissing soldiers and obsessing over the stats.
Just play the game with what you got and learn how to play your hand.
Worst Xcom?
Feels stupid and gay that it's aliens that just act as normal human combatants holding firearms, like if your going to have aliens and just have them be not much different than human combatants then just make them human combatants? It just feels like a dumb thing to be like "Oh we're unique look we have aliens", it feels uninspired and lazy quite frankly.
So many women... Give me a break...
In a real life situation, no woman would be in my squad.
I just jumped out of my pants! Haha, I wasn't expecting to become a character. Hopefully, I perform well!
I'm doing my part!💪🪖
Glad to see that I got to blast some xenos scum.
Shame that the ui/control scheme seems to be a real handicap. It seems that you're constantly fighting that just as much as the aliens: leaving equipment behind, making unintended risky moves, sometimes just burning time units unnecessarily. Any one of those alone could have serious ramifications for a mission's outcome. Fortunately, you were able to fight through it, looking forward to more!
"They are doing their part, are you?" - As for the interface comments. Part of it is just getting used to the nuances. I just didn't realise that Right-Click opened the door as well as the face in direction button. And there is a toggle when you start a campaign to remove the TU cost for turning around.
