New research project: Xeno Trousers
I thought watching an hour long let's play video was something In could not endure nowadays. But there is something about how you approach the game that just makes me watch and not want to stop. Any other let's play I try to watch to see if the game is any good I end up skipping through, but here I am staying even for the reading and preparation before battle. Great approach to the game, very mindful and deliberate.
Thank you for the comment, I really appreciate you taking the time to write it up. Going forward I will be cutting things down like if I need to hunt down one remaining enemy on the map or something like that but it is nice to hear that you enjoy my approach!

The fact they're called MARS robots really makes me want to name them after the Mars rovers. Curiosity, Soujourner, Spirit, Perseverance, Opportunity.
That might be a bit too on the nose, though. I also really like terms such as "Coda," which is a concluding piece or a finale.
Bulwark, Barricade, Bunker, Ironclad, given you use them for blocking.
Calliope, Crocodile, Churchill, Sherman, and various other tank names.
Killdozer for the lols. Shooty McShoot face. Itsy Bitsy Meanie Machinie.
I have a lot of names for mechanical, autonomous units.
I have thrown all of these into the randomizer! I like the rover names.
@Phrosphor given how many names there are, and to be fair to other commenters, I'd be fine with this list applying to sentry guns and later vehicles too. I think in xenonauts 1, you could get a full-on tank at some point, so I assume that'll make a return.
Otherwise limit this list to JUST the MARS robots so others can get in for other vehicles. Idk just how thick your randomizer is with names.
I, too, quite like the rover names. They fit really well even if, as I said, they're very on the nose.

Enjoying the videos! To increase strength the carry weight needs to be around the max, but it doesn't need to go over. Also in case you don't know, the reason why you are getting a little passive income right now is because your engineers aren't busy. Basically the explanation is that they are spending their time building stuff to sell instead so you get a little money when they have nothing else to do. You can also tell the dropship to temporarily go somewhere else and then order them back to the mission, that way you can have them waste a bit of time, so you don't have to fight a night mission. I don't know about xenonauts 2, but in xenonauts 1 any captured enemy equipment that didn't have a use for engineering, etc was automatically sold after capturing it. So I would hazard on the side of not selling for things. At least as long as you don't desperately need the money.
As a name for the combat rover. It's a rocket drone so ... Hellfire?
Thanks for the info, I am going into this having not played Xenonauts 1 so these little tips are good to know. I noticed that the RnD team also make you money when they aren't researching anything, not that I want to be doing that! I have added Hellfire to the name list!

Trooper Kane went back to their pre relationship name of Tropper Discocaddy. The majority of the town is probably in the cleaners with that bus stop duo and constant reinforcements. Good job on the mission, Prosphor.

I know you've done a few episodes since, I'm not caught up yet, but if you don't already know, you can right click the little green discs inside the Skyhawk setup to change their facing, so you can have your assaults at the doors facing outwards by default :)

More rockets! Shock and awe! Always remember that was my favorite way of playing the OG X:Com when I was a kid, usually half the map would be on fire by the time the mission ended.
Love the random passing by soldier taking the notion to help you breech and clear. :D

It shows the remaining TUs for units in the top bar, so if the green line is full you'll know you haven't done anything with them. Really looking forward to getting this myself, this mission was an excellent opening for terrorism nauts.

25:41 Might there be a radius effect to the flashbang grenades, so that the effect is harder if you hit the tiles that one enemy stands on, instead of aiming between then to catch both at the edge of the radius?
I get a feeling frags work in a similar manner with the damage intensity dropping as you get further from the center point.
37:11 The Assault Rifle does a lot more damage than the SMG.
If you could equip the SMG in a secondary slot it would have an interesting place as a support weapon for grenade launcher and HMG troopers.

Can you still do the assault drop shield trick. Basically i had them drop a shield equip shot guns take tu penalty in augonaut 1

I played with the demo, and I hat a "bit" more issues in this mission. First and foremost the greed... I wanted to recover all the data. But there are a ton of enemies.
Fortunately I brought a ton of ammo and dumped it on the floor as soon as the game started, (this way I had a bunch of ammo on the dropship as a reserve) and I needed it...
Can you call the mars: Redecorator.
Cos it goes through walls and keeps redecorating the buildings :)

This was a cool mission and I'm impressed the way you handled it! Yeah it's a shame the weapons aren't kept from captured enemies. One tip I do have though is this: Smoke and smoke grenades can also knock your enemies, and your soldiers, unconscious. That's that yellow number when they get into smoke. I've seen it happen in another series where someone got a Cleaner prisoner by sheer accident. Also useful for knocking out civvies so they stay alive.
It happened to me with smoke from blowing up a wall too
How about No.5? If catnip was unlucky, maybe this would be a bit more so xD
Number 5 is ALIVE! I don't think 5 would be too happy to have guns strapped to them though...
I don't know if they fixed it yet, but strength was one of the stats they added back in after having it removed for much of development. They didn't have any way to increase it back then. The way it worked in X1 was that it was enough to carry 80% or more of capacity and whenever you move enough to level up your TUS, you also got a STR up. So, no need to load your soldiers up over capacity just for strength. Either it works past some threshold (most likely 80%+), or it's still busted (but you got str ups so probably not, unless they were all from rank up).
They might just be from rank ups but until I get solid feedback I am going to keep *slightly* overloading my troops. If it works to level up this way eventually they will be able to carry so many grenades!
@@Phrosphor Now that the game was released and I got a copy, I doublechecked - holding mouse over the stats in the soldier screen displays the level up mechanics. It was 80% of carrying weight as I predicted :)

Looking back I think it was a visual bug. That wall should have been deleted but was still showing for me. We shall see if it becomes an issue down the road.
So few explosives. My early game in Xenonauts tends to involve a rocket launcher or two to clear entrenched enemies, kinda like what you did with the Mars by taking out the wall. Like rather than trying to stun the bus station ones I would have just rocket them.
On the Overwatch when approaching with the shotgun team it's because you shot the guy that he double overwatched your other soldier. He was facing away which is why he didn't shoot. But then you shot him and he turned around. Thus when the 2nd soldier approached the window he was looking in that direction and thus was able to overwatch.
Take a shot every time he says "That was a huge risk" 😂
Athena would be a cool name for the Mars.

I have played the demo several times and my approach is very different than yours. I almost use 1 shields 4 assault , 3 heavys and a MARS. All men have 3 or 4 frag grenades. I use the MARS as a scout as it can take some damage and grenade all the opposition to pieces finishing them with the shotguns so i can loot the remains. This way i dont expose my men too much.
Nice to watch different tactics.

I did play the Demo several times with a lower difficulty. But even then, that Agents where able to hit at insane distances.
The Balance needs some work if you ask me.
Sad you can't have SMGs, they should be avaiable on the normal market as they're human-build.
I think they might have a nice niche, though looking at the stats they do a lot less damage (20 vs 34).

I love those ideas, and yes GameOfKane is absolutely rocking as a sniper right now. They are really racking up the kills and the clutch shots.
I had xenonaughts 1 for a long time. This triggered me to play it for the first time xD. Bought it because of a let's play I have seen when the game came out. First thing that happens is that a ally kills three of my guys in the first mission because they were shooting at an alien that stood behind cover. Good times xD

Stepping out of cover to check from corners is a xenonauts thing?
This mission is easy with high TU units and loads of frags. You get no loot on this mission and frags 1hit them. Shotguns and shields mostly.

They probably don't give you SMGs because they're identical or worse to the Assault Rifle in every stat except weight, it seems like it only exists to be a worse weapon given to enemies

Your probability theory is out - the probability of at least 2 hits occuring out of 3 possible hits each with a 53% liklihood is only ~54.5%. This can be calculated through the negation method 100% - (the probability of nothing happening [10.38%]) - (the probability of exactly 1 event happening [35.12%]). When calculating the combined probability for multiple independent events you do not sum the probabilities for each event.
It's really hard to do maths when recording :(
If the autopsies aren't graphic they lose weight and pokes at the aesthetic far better the struggles against unknown Force just opposed to the normal graphics fidelity

Pvt Lid certainly kept things exciting. I am not sure what they were firing at when they hit Corazon-Ray because their first shot wiffed over T-Rem's head.

C4 isn't a weapon you place it on the ground and click on it. Then run away
When I have used it in testing you equip it, place it on an adjacent tile, walk away and use the 'clicker' that replaces it. For some reason the game is currently not letting me equip it to use it.

After playing so much Battletech I am used to it being the other way around.
The play in this episode seemed a bit reckless, repeatedly charging through overwatch fire. Most of the casualties in this episode could have been entirely eliminated through careful play.
Is it just me or does this game not have the charm of Xeno 1? Maybe it’s cause I’ve been playing the original so much recently but something feels missing here (apart from being in Early Access)

It's a bit anoying how you describe everything and then do it... i understand explaining.. and thinking out loud... but some situations it feels like you're just telling us what you're gunna do for the sake of it and then you do it.. wich slows down progression and the action. So i'd say if i'd have to pick 1 thing for constructive critisisem would be that you don't need to pre brief us on every single move you're gunna make and then do it. other than that it was a nice video.
