You could have cleaned up and spray painted the storage, repainted the vinyl seatings that would have added more bling to it but, for $120 for the seat structure that's a reasonable price, and it came out super clean when you applied it back.
We used to own a boat building company & had the poling platforms (aluminum) and grab handles (stainless) powder coated. We tried everything, changed vendors, wrote our own specs and in the end went to hard coat anodized. Filaform corrosion couldn't be stopped and the grab handles degraded over time. A tip is to use Tef Gel on stainless fasteners in aluminum. It will stop corrosion.
Get the powder coating done when you order your new boat . The hull of my ally plate boat was powder coated from factory.. it looks soooo much better than paint .
To powder coat my T-top, leaning post & Armstrong bracelet it cost $1,000 here in Charleston Sc. 5 year later still holdin up pretty good. I got some separation around the drain of the Armstrong bracket. The feet of my leaning post look the worst. Definitely chips on the leaning post where the yeti cooler get shoved underneath it. Wasn’t sure what to expect but seems to be on par with everything else after the restoration. Probably 500hrs on everything but it gets run pretty hard, we mostly dive off it. In my experience boats are constantly in some state of disrepair. There’s always something to fix on a salt water boat.
I was thinking about buying a boat that did not have the t top or leaning post powder coated. After watching this, I don't think I'll buy a boat that is not powder coated. Looks like long term it's worth it to have it done. Thanks for the vid...it really helped.
I would consider protecting the "pipe" where you put your feet. With some rubber maybe ? Otherwise, it looks really good. Years ago I was working for a company which was manufacturing high end professional systems. We were using powder painting for cases. That was damn resistant. Much more than a liquid painting.
I would agree ! And it surprises me of all these comments about this and that ! This man has replaced and repaired more boats ! I just don’t understand !
its just like paint except it doesnt use VOC'S for delivery then it gets baked. similarly its only as good as the prep job. what i've seen on used things that are rusted or corroded it usually flakes off in short order. looks nice when fresh though. the whole powder coat craze i believe is overrated.
Powder coating on steel sucks. I have repaired alot of it and it causes steel to disintegrate to crumbs. I have wondered how good it holds up on aluminum.
Im personally not a fan of powder coating. The base metal has to be perfect beforehand. If it chips or delaminates corrosion jumps in. Since its very hard, metal expansion causes it to fail.

U can we paint the vinyl seats??? Im thinking that will not last!!
@@gunnerwaldmann6337 Without replacing the vinyl covers what would a good substitution than painting them?

Use aluminum rivets when replacing. Stainless and aluminum as you may know don’t play well together

Looks good but is there a protectant to put on the aluminum other than washing it?
Wax.
Sharkhide protection
if something is very pitted, try hammertone paint if you can't powder.
Interesting thank you
the dimpled look hides rough textures etc... I even use it if I want to hide the edge on something made of chipboard.@@BornAgainBoating

It seems to flake off after two years or one lead weight chip. In salt water .
Amen!
Thanks
Powder coat is only worth it if the person u hire is 💯 on there preparation, meaning every metal is different
Good enough for this neighborhood!
Hope the finger is healing well.
you liked the way the foot rest hinged
Put some cup holders between them rod holders !!!
Corroded bolts suck! I pulled two U bolts of my galvanized trailer the other day, snapped the bolts off in 3 of the 4 places
Why didn't you sand the rough areas before powder coating? A little extra effort would have made the out come much nicer.
Was the leaning post made of aluminium?
love the dewalt
Where can I paint my sit with powder coat
Take the time and tear the tower apart and coat it. You won't regret it
was your powder coating price a friends price? Seems cheap
How durable is it over time? Does it chip off?
no it only chips from rocks sooo
Powder coating is incredibly durable long term

Yes it will chip!
Any boat dealer worth anything or knowledgeable owner will tell you powder coating is a scam that will have to be replaced. Go with line x.
totally worth it.
8:00 lots of time/money went into this but we're not painting the inside seat box? c'mon man i hope that's next weeks video
$140 is a steal! Can’t buy a beer coozie in NE for that.
The powder is ceramic
