Thanks Grande. My mum was also born in 1974 and was married in 1994. She also disappeared without a trace in 2011 around may or June at the age of 37. The day she actually disappeared she was at work where she was working as a school nurse. Since then her phone numbers don't go via. I've never gotten closure of what really happened since then and 10 years later I'm still devastated, stressed and depressed about my mom's mysterious loss.
Thank you for covering this case. It’s one of my favorite. I have listened to quite a few podcasts and read numerous articles about Brian Shaffer. While it is impossible to know for sure, I think Brain walked away from his life. Brian had a history of sudden radical changes. For instance, he was a star tennis player in school - but walked away when his coach told him that he had to cut his hair. His friends said that he had a way of just disappearing from nights out - albeit not permanently before. Brian’s mother died three weeks before he disappeared. It seems that Brian was only pursuing a medical career to please his mother. He wrote on his My Space page that being a doctor was only temporary until he could buy an island (or, at least a beach) to just play Jimmy Buffet songs all day. It’s not clear how deeply Brian cared for his girlfriend, Alexis. That seems to be another area Brian’s mother was pushing him toward. Mrs Shaffer was the one who purchased the trip to Miami as a Christmas present for Brian and Alexis. They were set to take that trip on the Monday after Brian’s disappearance. We have been told that Brian planned to propose to Alexis on the trip - but did he really? It has been reported that Brian’s mother gave him the name of a jeweler to buy a ring - but Brian never contacted the jeweler. Brian also suggested running away from it all to Alexis shortly after his mother died - and then he told her to find someone else as he was so depressed. It has also been reported by a few of Brian’s friends that he may have been questioning his sexuality - and possibly had been in one gay relationship. At some point, the police asked Alexis if there were any intimacy issues in her relationship with Brian. She didn’t really answer the question - or maybe she did. She said that she always questioned whether Brian loved her - but she had decided he did when she learned that he was using something based on her name as a password for something. Brian had dinner with his father early on the night of his disappearance - but it may not have been the feel good experience his father suggested it was. It seems that Brian’s mother left her life insurance to be divided three ways between Brian, his father, and his brother. Brian’s father objected to this distribution and wanted Brian and his brother to keep a small amount and give him the rest. That was the real reason for the dinner - to discuss this contentious matter. Early in March, Brian’s parents had given him a large check to cover his tuition for the next semester. I believe it was for $4500. The check was never given to The Ohio State University. The check was never cashed and has never been found. Brian and his brother had never been close. In fact, Brian had asked his brother to go out with him on the night he disappeared - but his brother had plans. For all these reasons, I think Brian wanted away from it all. I think he felt that his only real reason to stay in Columbus was his mother - and she had died. I know it is very hard to disappear anymore - but when your dream is a beach on an island, it might be easier than we think. For those who wonder if Brian is still in the building as part of the construction, it doesn’t seem to be possible. It appears that all the real construction had been completed. The only thing in progress at the time Brian disappeared was building out space - divding stores, etc. Any construction would not have been the kind a human body could become part of.
Having worked in undercover security and using surveillance I can say cameras miss things all the time especially if they pan. So it's no surprise he was not caught on security cameras when he left the bar. The most simple explanation is that he met with foul play when he left the bar.
@@414violence I think that is plausible. I live in Denmark, where we have a lot of coastline, bridges, kanals and harbors. Regularly young men go missing after a night in town - and mostly they are found drowned in the water. So why are mostly young men dying this way (girls go to bars too and get intoxicated)? The simple answer is that the guys go to the edge of the harbor/kanal/bridge to pee into the water - the rest you can guess.
@@asbisi : Girls go to bars too, get intoxicated then if or when they disappear mostly they end up being abducted by a sexual predator. It can be yrs before their bodies are discovered. Different vulnerabilities by gender.

Gosh. What a tragic family. Mum dies, Brian goes missing, his dad does in a fluke accident. How terribly sad for the rest of his family and friends. They will just never know
All the cases where people thought that someone “walked away” from their life never turn out to be true. It’s almost always a tragic accident or foul play.
Or, the people who do this and really thought it through, (He is very smart~ intelligent), never have gotten "found". I hope he is alive, well and happy.
Being “book smart” doesn’t always translate into being a master of disguise or escape and leaving no clue of their whereabouts, and vanishing into thin air. Disappearing from one’s own life entails substantial savings, new identities, passports, reclusion etc. In my opinion, something tragic happened, which is sad, since his mom died and his dad died in a short span of time.

Reminds me of the case of Allen L. Adams, a Vietnam-era soldier who disappeared in 1967 after visiting the Crown Bar and Grill at 1005 E. St. NW in Washington, DC. His skeletal remains (along with his dog tags) were discovered in 1996 in the rubble of the bar as it was being demolished by a work crew. His body had apparently been hidden in a wall or whatever. After his disappearance, the army had declared him AWOL and given him a less than honorable discharge. Poor guy…

I would like to know more about the altercation between Clint and Brian. Brian may have left the bar to avoid further contact with Clint, been coincidentally missed by surveillance cameras, and decided to walk home because he didn't want to ride with Clint. On the way home, he was the victim of a crime that resulted in his death. Maybe a robbery where he was beaten and died from head trauma, put in the car of his attackers and his body dumped or disposed of somehow.
I am a coworker of the brother. This happened a long time ago but the grief the brother looks to have experienced and the efforts over years to find his brother makes it impossible to believe the brother was involved in any malice. This story is very sad about Brian but when I'm having a rapport with the brother, I'm overwhelmed with sympathy. The brother is such a nice, peaceful guy and through his work demonstrates he's a good, caring, normal person. Nobody knows what happened and anyone's opinions on this are acceptable, but I can't help get fired up and defensive about any theories suggesting the brother being remotely involved with foul play.
I never thought it was his brother. It’s too related to the bar. All that construction going on at that time. Seems like so much could have happened. I hope they find Brian. Closure would be nice.
@@OGitGirlJess That often happens (loss of each family member to strange things) when an unique death happens in the family, if that makes sense. Happened in mine, so I know that well.
I love when you review disappearance cases. They are fascinating and frustrating at the same time. I am always amazed of how some people simply disappear from places like public spaces, private homes, national parks etc.. Thank you for another enjoyable and thought provoking video Dr. Grande.❤️
Disappearance cases are even more frustrating than murder cases etc. in the sense that we cannot know for sure if the person is still alive or dead. As horrible as it sounds, many parents would actually feel relieved if their missing child was found dead (especially if spared from the details), because at least then they would not have to keep wondering and cling to hope, they could finally start the grieving process and continue their lives.
If you are not familiar with the cases researched by David Paulides, I highly recommend them. Beyond fascinating. His books, free movies, and videos are bingeworthy. I would suggest the free movie Missing 411: The Hunted to begin with.
I was a student at OSU when he went missing, and I was good friends with some of the ugly tuna employees. His disappearance was always hanging over us like a dark cloud. I don't have any theories after all these years, but I still get frustrated when people make suggestions without understanding the building layout and the surrounding area. If you had personally toured the place, you'd get why this case is so frustrating.
I am from Columbus Ohio and remember when this happened. One of my hobbies/passions is true crime/missing people/cold cases and this one has stuck with me since the day it happened. I am always on the lookout for new info and his name is on my Google alerts.
I’ve been to the exact place he disappeared, which is now a movie theater, multiple times. Had no idea it was what it was, got chills when I realized after hearing about this case.
@@sistersarah2874 I think of Andrew Gosden often. Karlie Guse’s disappearance is another particularly sad case, she was only 16 and it’s like she never existed.
This case is local legend here in Columbus, Ohio. I was happy to see you cover it. I highly doubt this was a suicide. His father appeared on the news completely devastated many times searching for him until his last breath. Chip Coffey (psychic) did a show about the case & felt someone near the bar knows something about what happened. In my experience, many of the OSU college students are naive to the dangers of the area where the Ugly Tuna is located. Another (locally) famous murder happened near there.
I attended OSU shortly after his disappearance (I was a freshman in 2007). Ugly tuna closed a couple of years ago and the building was gutted and turned into offices for the university. I was hoping that when the remodeling took place, they would’ve found his body in the walls or something, but that never happened. The majority of students at OSU from around that time are familiar with his case, it’s so bizarre and random. The south campus gateway is nice but it’s just south of campus where the area starts to get rough.
Darn. There goes my theory. That is what I have thought for many years. Although I couldn’t account for why people would not be able to smell. Thanks for the info.
He loved his family. After the death of his mother, I can't imagine that he was so heartless that he would put the rest of the family through that pain again by running away.
Refusing to take a polygraph is just a display of good survival instincts, not a refusal to cooperate. See Dr. Grande's video on polygraphs--to summarise, they're junk science and completely invalid. All of the spies with security clearances caught within the last 50+ years passed multiple FBI administered polygraphs during the period they were selling US secrets to other governments, multiple serial killers have passed polygraphs (after Gary Leon Ridgway was ruled out as the Green River Killer on the basis of a polygraph, he went on to kill over 50 more women) and multiple factually innocent people's lives have been adversely affected because they did not pass a polygraph. While my beloved husband was alive, I told him often that if I ever disappeared, never to take a polygraph. Never, ever--if I came back and discovered he'd taken one, he'd have to face the wrath of Gráinne.

I live in downtown Columbus and have always been fascinated by this case having been to that bar which is connected to a movie theatre on several occasions. So many businesses in that area with cameras, it’s weird he was never seen by any of them that night. But I’d definitely chalk this up to foul play. Shit is sketchy as hell in that area, especially at night. It wouldn’t be a stretch to think he could have been dosed by someone and died accidentally and they disposed of him. Sad story all around.
@@rogwarrior1018 Correct - she waited for years and helped search for him but eventually accepted that regardless if he was alive, he was gone from her life and she had to move on. She's given several interviews and still helps keep the case in the forefront. But yeah don't blame her at all for moving on.
The issue with that is there really wasn't a place where he could have gotten outside evading cameras. Police identified every single person that went in and out of the bar that night and tracked them down except Brian. There was a service exit where deliveries, large equipment like band instruments and sound mixers, etc. could be brought in the back of the bar but that exit had a camera that activated when someone opened the door. Police reviewed that and footage of the hall it leads to which takes you outside and saw no trace of Brian anywhere. Unless he went out the back of the bar and jumped off the second story balcony that the UTS had down to the street and wandered off - which probably would've broken his leg or worse given the height - then there's unfortunately not a single place that led outside he could've gone through.
There is speculation that his body is buried at a work site that was being developed around the time he went missing. This is one of those cases that sticks with me.
I like to think that about my cat, but I'm pretty sure he was eaten by a fox or coyote. But sometimes I imagine him living in a great home, or forming an underground cat gang in the storm drains.

This reminds me of the kid that fell behind the industrial refrigerator, the criminal that disappeared into a grocery store column, the man crushed in a garbage truck, Elisa Lam in the water tower, etc. Lots of documented cases of people getting themselves killed in bizarre places and only by happenstance are they later found. He's most probably still in or around the building in an unthinkable place that only some drunk person would end up in.
Just to add one more unlikely possibility, to the six Dr. Grande already mentioned. After midnight it would have been April 1. Could Brian Shaffer have been killed in an April Fools prank that went wrong? It could even be that he was playing one by sneaking out of the bar, and he met foul play afterwards. Probably not.
My comment is two years late, but it's exactly what I was thinking. We have a movie (I am Indian) about a dead body being buried at a construction site for a new police station, while the cops are actively solving the crime lol. Not saying there was foul play here, but most likely he went out to get some air or cool off after an argument and ended up going through the service door right into the construction area.
Unless someone comes up to shed new light or confess to something, it feels like it'll be impossible to ever know the truth behind his disappearance. His story lives on in our collective consciousness.
His poor dad that wanted him to give up his inheritance?? The same dad that had dinner with him just before?? I'd have had to have a talk with the dad.

@@PoeLemic I’ve heard lots of crazy stuff. A guy I knew was suuuuper into this case and had this grand theory about how Brian moved to another country to start his life over. The sad truth is, no one will likely ever know what happened. But people do still talk about it.
This case reminds me of two solved cases in my local area. The first was a young man who I went to university with (never met him) disappearing. According to his family, he had no reason to disappear, he was happy being a student and starting a career, no history of mental illness, etc., etc. When he was finally found by accident, 10 years later, he said he had been depressed, anxious, and felt pressured to succeed for many years, and had planned what he called his "escape" for at least a year, gathering fake documents, money and so on. Many families either don't know, or don't want to know what's really happening with their missing members. The other was a young man coming home from the bar, like Brian. It was like he vanished into thin air. Again, his family and friends said happy life, no serious problems, no involvement with crime or drugs. Could it be the Smiley Face Killer? No. A couple of years later, his mummified body was found when a city crew cut back blackberries from the base of a bridge. He walked over this bridge on his way home, and either fell over the railing or got hit by a car and was knocked over. If he had walked a little further, then fell, it would have been into the water, and his body may never have been found. I worked near that area and would have passed by his body almost daily. There was no indication, no smell. It might have been because he disappeared at a cold time of year, and by the time the hot weather came most of his body was either dried out or decomposed. If I had to pick an answer, I would guess a simple accident, followed by a deliberate flight, with a robbery gone wrong a close third.
Thank you for posting that. That first case sounds like something a lot of people probably thought of doing at some time but never did beause they did not have a plan.

I really don’t understand why people think he’s still alive. How was he never captured on camera again? I think it’s pretty obvious Brian left the bar and met his fate shortly thereafter. Anything is possible, maybe he is still alive? But that seems far-fetched given the circumstances.
@@PoeLemic I'm not sure. His own cousin has stated several times that he showed up late to his own mother's funeral, hungover. I'm not shaming him for this. God knows I might be as well. She said that things were not as great in his life as they seemed; school was not going great, he was really struggling with his mother's illness and subsequent passing, and that he had been drinking a lot. She said he wasn't quite as he was portrayed by the media. She said the day or two after he went missing, he was spotted somewhere either getting into a car or hitch hiking, I can't remember, and she completely and utterly believes he left of his own accord to start anew. I didn't know him, but I live in Columbus and I had been to that bar several times. I attended the university and work there now. There was a Wendy's restaurant not far from where the bar used to be (like a 3 minute walk) and that's where dogs lost his scent; as if he got into a car. The layout of that building was weird. That area, in that year was hit or miss; one street over and you could be looking at some trouble, but I admit I've never been in the 'He was randomly murdered' camp. I think he either had a previous issue with people and they got into it and something went too far, or I think he took off because life was too much. He had a lot going on. I personally rule out suicide because if one takes their own life, it's not exactly a cake walk to hide their own body, especially in this city.
Dr grande good stuff again. Cant help but be reminded of my wifes coworker whose husband never came home after stopping at the bar for one with some friends. He never came home. No one saw him leave, he didnt say goodbye, last words were that he was going to the restroom. The next day he was found at the bottom of the basement stairs of the bar dead from a fall .where the door to the basement was next to the bathroom door. So it was blamed on him accidentally going in the wrong door . His wife then moved out of state never to be heard of again. No phone calls returned. Again im just speculating and not drawing any conclusions. You are the best sir

I'm reminded of other real-life "mysterious disappearances" involving very intoxicated people, or others who vanish due to misadventure. One kid got curious and tried to explore an old house. He was later found stuck in the chimney. One woman disappeared at her hotel, and was later revealed to have climbed out while exploring the roof, and then she fell down into some water reservoir. Another man fell down into a garbage collection chute, and was crushed into a large wad of garbage. I can think of more than one case where teens were assumed to be abducted, but later discovered in their cars, in the bottom of a pond or lake. Right here in my hometown, we had a homeless woman killed when she passed out in a dumpster, which was collected by a garbage truck. These sort of things happen, and I'm guessing something similar occurred with Brian. Tragic and a bit bizarre, but drunks do dumb things and pass out in weird places.
This family got hit badly from mothers death, Brian and then the father! I hope that the left behind brother of Brian has found some peace to live his life fully!

@@charlesgerety1403 It's unlikely (I was a student who lived nearby at the time of his disappearance.) I think he got through some camera blind spots, but he would have to go way out of his way to end up in a river or water by accident. I know real life mysteries are not like an episode of Columbo. But sometimes the answers are directly under your nose, so close, you can’t actually see it. Unless you back up.
The most likely theory is that he left by the service entrance, where the band left, it's detailed he was talking to the band. He was highly intoxicated and may have crawled into a waste bin. The bin was picked up on it's regular schedule, and unfortunately this is how Brian died. This is exactly what happened under very similar circumstances to Corrie McKeague. This happens more often than people would think, usually when someone is highly intoxicated, and don't have the faculties to reason that there's a chance a waste bin could be emptied before they are able get out. Although possibly he entered a "Space/Time Continuum" portal and is living in another dimension, but I think I'll stick with the theory that has actually happened a few times before.

I've always found this one interesting, but many people will literally run away to commit suicide to avoid pain for people around them or for insurance/pay out reasons. The supposition that the construction site was non-navigableis largely an assumption, a little climbing and a gate left open is all that is required for him to leave that area. Assuming the Camera footage was correct and didn't leave via the normal exit, he must have left via the construction area and met with another end.
I agree. The police had the impression that the site was non-navigable. That's just an assumption on their part and isn't set in stone. Construction sites are not labyrinths or mazes that are impossible to get through! I have a feeling that the Clint friend had much more to do with this disappearance than is being told. The argument between the two could have continued out in the back construction area and ended in the man's murder - probably accidental. Construction areas have many places to hide a body. Possibly. I would reject the theory of this man being targeted by two crooks. First of all there are numerous drunk people in a bar and a woman would be much easier to overpower and abduct than a drunken man. He did look tall and there was no mention of him flashing money around drawing attention to himself. It makes no sense to abduct a grown man, even if he is drunk. It would have been noticed. Slipping away and killing himself seems the most plausible to me. I'm just guessing here, though...
@@garmtpug I have a feeling that the Clint friend had much more to do with this disappearance than is being told. Because he asked for a lawyer when the cops asked him to take a polygraph test...lool thats literally what DR.Grande even tells us to do if ever faced with the police.

Jon Mancuso it’s fairly common for people who complete suicide to be concerned about the way their body will look if found. This is more common in women than men, though, and is reflected in the statistical preference for different methods, with women tending to prefer non-disfiguring means.
@@PeterGibbonns I’m saying there’s nothing illogical about a suicide not wanting his body to be found, seeing it as humiliating or as an emotional shock to the family. We know considerations like these do go into people’s thought process. The idea that a suicide needs to want their body found, or that one’s disappearance is inconsistent with suicide, is baseless. It doesn’t actually tell us anything.

@@RaoulThomas007 Not super close. I went to OSU (at the same time as Brian actually). It would take about 20 minutes if you’re walking (and sober) to reach the river from Tuna. But if you’re intoxicated? I would imagine much longer. Even driving takes close to 10 minutes because there are a lot of one-way roads, traffic lights, pedestrians, etc. that tend to stall the drive. During the 20+ min (and that’s if you’re walking with a purpose, without stopping) walk, you pass a lot of cameras, plus you’re in a very busy area where there are many people outside at all hours of the day/night, in all kinds of weather.
Mind boggling for me. Cannot imagine disappearing without a trace in such a short time frame. Thanks for addressing this one. I heard about it quite awhile ago, surprised that there is still nothing new in the case.

Yeah, his poor younger brother: losing your mother to cancer, your older brother vanishes under odd circumstances, and then a few years later, your dad dies in an unusual yard accident. If I were him, I’d be wondering what I did to deserve these tragedies.
That whole family seems cursed. In just a few years, his mother died, Brian disappears, and his father is killed in a freak accident. I think suicide is the most probable. Some people are very good at hiding it.
Did you know that all people of indigenous descent in North America on average die 10 years earlier than the rest of people who live here in North America? I didn't know that for a long time.
@@margaretr5701 The dad's dinner meeting was to "suggest" that the insurance money be largely given to him, rather than split three ways?? That's not much of a family unit. When did the dad die and from what???
They don't let you back in at 1:55am if it closes at 2am. His friends said they lost him and that's because he was outside talking to two girls. He obviously tried to talk his way back in, was denied and left without the cameras seeing him. After that he vanished.
Yea, I don't think he walked back in either. I think his friends may be slightly confused. I think they lost him when he went outside to talk to the two women from class.
Please do the disapperance of Amy Bradley next. Definitely a very sad mystery and an important one to discuss. It's super scary and tragic because of the many credible sightings.

If you haven't already, would you cover the young woman, Stephanie, that was involved in an accident in Las Vegas that demolished two individuals. Sure was told that she killed two people and all she could do was laugh, talk about the next drinks she would order, and that she WAS going too school the next day (she was two weeks away from graduating). No remorse, but I would love to know if her behavior and lack of acknowledgement was a defense mechanism because she wouldn't be able to handle what she had done. Thanks!
Just listened to a podcast with the detective working this case, Clint has never let the police interview him or take a polygraph, he got a lawyer almost immediately and would never talk to police.
yes I think they met up later and got drugs and something happened or they got a hold of drugs in the TUNA bar somehow I think drugs played a role and drug deals gone bad ...people die....he was super tired so his judgement was probably off and it was a high crime area
I want to note, that by 2006, when Brian went missing, no one in America could board a plane to any destination, especially a foreign one, without a drivers license and a passport. He would have had to have been a criminal mastermind to disappear without a trace. Even if he stole a car, and drove to Mexico. He'd need an ID, and drivers license. Those things can be gotten from a criminal enterprise, through an Internet connected website through the "dark web". That scenario seems preposterous.
As always, Dr G, your analysis is so interesting. So many possibilities. I hope this young man has found peace, in either this world or the next. Thank you for your insightful work.

Please analyse the Joe Pichler disappearance (When good ghouls go bad, Varsity blues, beethoven) - Child actor disappeared in 2006 was it suicide or murder?
Was Cint ruled out as a supect? Seems to me that if the two guys had an altercation in the bar, it's conceivable that Clint (in his inebriated state) may have pushed / shoved / hit Brian as part of their altercation, which potentially led Brian to stumble, fall, maybe hurt his head... It's possible that Brian then left the bar only to collapse somewhere else and die from head injuries. But, I guess he would've been found by someone by now.
I think he fell into the river, honestly. I think the camera just missed him and it was a tragic accident. Theories about the construction site and him being in the walls just never rang true to me.
They searched the river. In fact, a psychic told Brian’s father that he was in the river anchored on some kind of post. The Olentangy River is only three feet deep at Columbus. The police said that if Brian was in the river, they would have definitely found him.

Wow, excellent analysis!
You make the best case for his dissapearence.
Amazing, very well explained. Thank you. So interesting and adds to a very plausible theory.
I think you're right!
Wouldn't he have cashed a $4500 check if he was going to run off to a tropical island?
What was the cause of Brian's mother's death?
Having worked in undercover security and using surveillance I can say cameras miss things all the time especially if they pan. So it's no surprise he was not caught on security cameras when he left the bar. The most simple explanation is that he met with foul play when he left the bar.
Simple explanation is he was extremely intoxicated, stumbled out the service door and died by accident (fell into dumpster/river/lake etc)

That's why I don't think his disappearance was voluntary. I think he would consider his family's grief.

I think they should have asked Clint more questions. I think it’s suspicious that he stopped cooperating.
Yes, my thought too?
It's a no-win for him to answer more questions. I'm all for providing I fo to police but, it could be Brian told Clint he was leaving g and to keep quiet. I'm just saying it doesn't benefit Clint.

I think he left the bar, evading the cameras and ran into trouble outside. I hope this gets solved for his girlfriend and his family.
no he is in the construction exit, he walked against the wall unintentionally avoiding cameras
Alexis has married and has a couple of kids I think.

His "Friend" Clint will admit on his deathbed that he got into it with Brian and accidentally beat him to death and dumping the body somewhere.
@@charlesgerety1403 Did Clint have some type of grudge against Brian?
@@btetschner Clint was heavily into hardcore drugs crack heroin ext. Friends said Brian was experimenting with them with Brian. I strongly suspect the deadly altercation occured stemming from that. IT was allegedly his best friend wouldn't someone want to assist??? I just don't see any other way because they all seem outrageous.
@@btetschner My thing is this. Brian must admit it someday to finally squash this. I think he likely told at least one person as to what he did and they should tell Police.
I really don’t understand why people think he’s still alive. How was he never captured on camera again? I think it’s pretty obvious Brian left the bar and met his fate shortly thereafter. Anything is possible, maybe he is still alive? But that seems far-fetched given the circumstances.
Yeah, very far-fetched. He's dead. I know that, for a fact.

Poor guy probably died at the bar by accident and when he was found they just dispose of him
@@PoeLemic I'm not sure.
Did they check who had the IP address that made that comment on his Dad’s obit? Someone trying to pretend he was still alive to hide that they killed him. Just that it came from OH is not enough information. It’s a friggin clue
Pretty sure it was tracked down to some public computer at an Internet cafe or something like that.
yeah it was confirmed to be a prank
Oh my goodness, I'm scared to go out at all after reading all those weird cases! How awful

Sometimes it’s easier just to disappear, but not nice for the loved ones left behind. Not knowing is incredibly painful.
it's not easy to just 'disappear', unless someone else wants them to and then so many times there are witnesses and a trail of evidence
Nah, he had so much to look forward to than to disappear. Either way, it is indeed sad the family didn't know what happened to him.
Highly doubt he disappeared on purpose. He'd have to do so with such incredible planning and ingenuity the likes of which the world hadn't seen yet. I think it's a case of either a murder or an accident which sadly the cameras at the time missed.
It’s extremely difficult to just disappear in today’s day and age leaving absolutely no trail.
@@sponish0 Difficult, true. But if you factor in foreign countries, like some tropical banana republic, it starts getting much easier. Also, cities like Mexico City, for instance, are so large and so different from America.
Unfound recently did a podcast on this case. It's got loads of insider information and what is clear is that the exits were not all watched. Brian absolutely could have left the building. Furthermore, he had cheated on his girlfriend multiple times and had only signed up for medicine because his mother wanted him to be a doctor. He also was behind on his university tuition despite receiving money from his Dad for it.

@@charlesgerety1403 It's unlikely (I was a student who lived nearby at the time of his disappearance.) Dr. Grande, I would love to see you do a video on Ray Gricar, the DIstrict Atty from central PA, who disappeared back in 2005 (iirc).
I have heard of this theory more than once.
He left without being noticed, one way or another, and either ran off or was robbed/assaulted/murdered and his body was hidden somewhere.
@@no_peace Sadly, for all of the magic thinking people out there, the mundane theories (like yours, @NoPeace) are often the most probable.

@@debodatta7398 No. Clint felt like he told the cops many times all what he could and he felt that it was turning into a witch hunt. He was advised not to take the test. He was totally exonerated.
I read that shortly after Brian’s disappearance, his empty apartment was broken into. I find that to be a interesting fact. Wonder if that somehow ties to this case.
They said no. LE that is.
after news gets out that he is gone, it's like a message to all the criminals "hey nobody lives here but there is stuff here" and with all the crack heads in ohio they were eager to break in to an empty house
This is so sad. His aunt is a friend of mine and I remember when he went missing. There is still a big billboard locally asking for information and whenever I see it, I pray he will be found.
Brian is not alive. What a disgusting thing for that attorney to say.
How do you know? Many people disappear on purpose...
@@GraceCanadaful saying that he is for sure alive and doing that to his family is disgusting. The attorney has no proof of that. I personally think that is extremely unlikely he is alive. Most people don’t run off to start a new life shit faced, with no personal belongings in the middle of the night. It’s silly.
I live in Columbus and I always wondered what happened to him. When you look at his mannerisms in the pictures, he looks like just a normal person during a night out. I just don’t think he would end his life and never want anyone to find him because of his father. I remember his father looking for him after it happened and then he died during that wind storm. It was really sad because his father died not knowing what happened to his son. Hopefully one day they will figure out what happened to him.
Once I had a friend fall asleep at the bar inside an arcade racing game, like a covered one that you get inside to play. @@RaoulThomas007 police searched the river and said he wasn't there.

Same thing happened to a young RAF airmen in England about 5 years ago. Left a club never to be seen again.
But there is no indication that Brian left the building. That’s what is so frustrating with this case.
