      @Il Sav It doesn't really have much to do with UA-cam lol. If all I did was Davinci Resolve tutorials, I'd be growing a lot faster, but I made the decision to sacrifice that faster growth in order to make more varied videos.

    Mannn I had to come back to a 3yr old video. I was looking for a tutorial on davinci resolve video collage. Everyone who made a video, that's newer did the exact same thing. 1 or 2 layers then that was it. No one broke it down like this. Mannn these new UA-camrs are just bitting from each other. 🤦🏾‍♂️ Thx ya for this video. Let me sub and save this 😂

    Hi Jay, I have been using your collage video for some time now and it has always worked until Resolve upgraded to version 19.08 Build 33. As soon as I overlay the video collage, all 4 windows remain black, even with the actual clips right below in the correct order. Have you tried this with the new Resolve?
    Would appetite some feedback and let me know if this is a version 19.08 issue

    Cool stuff, thank you. I am wondering about the sharpness of the video where you are sitting at your desk; I know you changed background colours but it seems that the sharpness of your image has faded at the same time. For whatever reason, it looks as though this has been shot through a foggy lens. I noticed this on some of your other videos, as well.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  3 роки тому +1

      The sharpness is faded. I'm shooting through a diffusion filter. The lens on my camera is super sharp. Great for photos, not so much for video.

    Had a question. Once you create a video collage and add tile animation using a background image, How do i change the background image later?

  • @zorrothebug
    @zorrothebug 3 роки тому +2

    nice effect, though I have two issues I struggle with:
    1. reversing the order of video tracks. Top track is visually on the bottom of the stack... At least it is confusing (for me)
    2. the videos do not stick to the tiles. (position, size, zoom, animation) If you alter a tile you have to correct the underlying video manually.
    Therefor I still prefer to work with fusion clips, have the video tracks in same order as ever and have the masks bound to the video. What ever transformation I apply in the edit page the video sticks to the mask because it is made inside of fusion.
    Picture in Picture for streaming: I do not have to use that video collage effect or work in fusion at all to have this going. Just having the webcam video clip on top of the game video track, resize and move it and you're done. You may add some effects, border, drop shadow at will but again, I still prefer the fusion page to do this.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  3 роки тому +1

      The order of the stack thing can be confusing for sure. Took me a bit to figure out what was going on and realize that the effect was creating masks. And I agree with you about the images not moving with the tiles. It would be great if there was a way to track those on the Edit page, instead of having to keyframe the position.

    • @HunterWadeMusic
      @HunterWadeMusic 2 роки тому +1

      The videos do stick with the tiles if you copy the Background track and Paste attributes on the other tracks, only selecting plugins. I hope you've discovered that over the year. If not, TADA! It's a lot better of an effect than demonstrated here. EACH track needs the effect on it and, of course, you assign background to one (and it can be anywhere, I put it on the bottom) then assign a tile to the others. Okay. I'm still in it though, so ON to the next tutorial in the search on the subject.

    • @zorrothebug
      @zorrothebug 2 роки тому

      @@HunterWadeMusic Or... as I learned by now, you put an adjustment clip on top of both and you need to apply the effect only once. Another advantage of this is when you adjust the effect later on you don't need to keep track of two or more clips, just the adjustment clip. 😉

      @@zorrothebug THAT is the information that I think is going to save my current project from rotting on the vine. Thank you. I was in particular having difficulty keeping resize keyframes on individual clips in line with the parameters of the collage. This make even more sense, Bravo!

    Funny how most of us who used Adobe in the past, still see the order of layers as the bottom being on the bottom. It seems this effect mimics the node layers, I tend to think of the order as a stack of papers so the one on the top is actually the bottom. Thanks for doing this video, when I first saw this new effect, I kind of thought that I probably wouldn't use it, but seeing it used, I can see a few applications for sure.
    On another note- is it me, or are a lot of tutorials suddenly harder to see? It seems the resolution of your monitor, when you go to the inspector or a menu, it is really hard to read because the fonts are so tiny. Could be my age. Might want to consider us old guys and zoom in on your screencast when showing the inspector or a menu. Nice presentation - Keep it up Jay.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  3 роки тому

      I think the reason why people are getting confused is because they are thinking of the smaller clips in the collage as being on top of the main video, when in fact what's happening is the effect is creating a mask on the top layer, allowing the layers below it to be seen.
      As for it being harder to see, sorry about that. I upgraded to 4K, 27" monitors, so everything is smaller. I actually like it better when I'm editing, but it does make things harder to see. I'll try and remember to zoom in to what I'm doing. Thanks Jim!

      @@JayLippman I do respect BMD and DVR and those who respect them, anyway. It is important to distinguish between those who deserve respect and those who does not. I am also tired of those, who do not respect their own spellings.This means to me, that they do not respect themselves. If they do not respect themselves and their readers (and I am one of them), then I have no reason to respect them. Generally, I am very tired to see every day tons of inaccurate spellings and not only in English, this is a global problem nowadays. This is real disrespect, not what I said in my above comment. You talk to people -- try and spell your words, show some respect to your potential readers. MHO.

      You can adjust the layout of the collage effect, but if you just want picture in picture, there's a much easier way. Put the video that you want to be in the corner in a video track on top of the main footage track, then use the zoom, crop, and position tools in the inspector to place the video where you want it to go.
