The sims 3 store used to have a button that would give you 5 sim points after watching a short ad. I think this was removed in 2015-16. I would open 9 windows on my PC and just go through the ads for roughly an hour each day to rack up a ton of sim points. I ended up getting alot of the content for free, but my biggest takeaway was the world of Lucky Palms.

I got the entire store (except items [i.e. certain worlds]), entirely free by watching ads, and following the Daily Deal Rotational thread in the Sims forums. Even after Sims 4 began (after owning the entire Store), I still watched ads to gift Sims 3 Store items to others. With Complete-a-Set, you only buy a few of the discounted items (using the Daily Deal Rotation calendar for cheapest price), then buy the entire set at the cheapest sale price, for even less, or completely free. As a matter of fact, The Tip Top Toddler Collection has a glitched feature that you can buy either 1 or 2 smaller items, and get the entire set, plus its compilation for free (I think the glitch still works).
As for the machine that offers you lower prices, it rarely now offers lower prices than the DD sale prices (due to it not being updated, once they dropped all items in the Store's prices), however, once you own most of the Store, it does give you a few offers for free items (I saved one of the worlds, available for SimPoints to test whether it would be offered), and indeed it was. Some of the items, I would have never bought, had I needed to buy out of pocket, but if the price is free, nothing Sims 4 can offer can compete with that, unless Sims 4 brought back the ads.
Another tip, some of the EPs give SimPoints that can be used in the game, when you register your games. There are also hundreds of free items (even sets) at the store, and the Daily Deal Rotational thread also lists them. They also give tips how to buy anything and everything for the cheapest price. Even as vast as the Store is, with the discounted prices, using the DD Rotational method of purchasing and Complete-a-Set, you can definitely still own more items than what is offered in Sims 4 for far less a price.
Also, there are Venues, that also fo on sale ridiculously low, which almost always contain Premium Content (which offer gameplay elements), build items, buy items, and in some cases, clothing items. Venues are Community Lots that can be placed in any World. They can even be redesigned, as their build/buy pieces can be added/deleted/recolored/patterned. You can build your own Venues from scratch, combining elements of any that you own. Sims 4 is extremely limiting (as far as space and designing).
Worlds: Most Worlds also come with Premium Items, and Gold Worlds offer even more. Now if you do choose to buy any of the pay-out-of-pocket Worlds, I suggest you buy the Gold Versions, because they throw in extra content (usually Premium Items/Venues/Build/Buy, sometimes extra clothing too), and on top of that they give you additional SimPoints (normally enough to buy a Venue or large Set/Compilation). Also, don't forget to pick up Riverview, which is available for free for anyone who registers their base game. The one aspect of Sims 3 Store Worlds that obliterates Sims 4, is that most of the Gold Worlds offer more than Sims 4 EPs. Don't believe me, compare for yourself.
I know that I swore I would not contribute to EA with buying any items from the Sims 3 Store, but after discovering the DD threads, I went on to own it all (mostly for free). Sadly, Sims 4 was losing players, as they learned about how to own the entire Sims 3 Store (again, with exception to just a few out-of-pocket items, namely Worlds), that they stripped the watching ads for SimPoints aspects, to try and lure players back to the Sims 4 dlc simulator.
But if you thought that was all, the Sims 3 Community is alive, active and thriving. There are several gifting threads, contest threads, tips and tricks, modders and cc creators, to allow those who are fed up with Sims 4 price gauging, to experience all that Sims 3 has to offer. Also, Sims 3's exchange not only has renovated houses and Sims, but has a plethora of Worlds to explore. Oh yes, Sims 3 has a World building tool, that can be downloaded for Free. Also, Sims 2 Exchange has a World building tool, that is available, even if you only own the base game.
I actually tried to get into Sims 4, but with it still lacking gameplay content from its predecessors (including Sims 1), its limitations with redesigning and lack of a World building tool, its lack of personality and Lore, its repetitive gameplay elements (lack thereof), and overall boring gameplay, I still cannot find a redeeming quality that would give reason to further invest my money into the worst dlc simulator, EA has put out ever. I truly do not understand any veteran players of Sims games, liking what Sims 4 has to offer, when all of its predecessors offered far more detail, gameplay, personality, enjoyment, etc.

I just feel like the quality of a lot of the sims 3 store content is what validated that business model. The things in the sims 4 kits is just... not up to the same standard though. I know it's an example that's been made a million times already, but the bust the dust kit and how broken it was? Totally unacceptable. In the sims 3 store, you could basically buy whole EPs or SPs worth of content without having to leave your home. In the days of the DVD model, this was a big thing. The huge worlds available on the store--fully populated worlds, i might add--always seemed awesome to me. Overpriced? One MILLION percent. But enjoyable? To the absolute MAX. I stopped buying sims 4 kits a while ago because i just feel like... idk, they're so hollow and they add nothing to the game. Just my two cents though. Thanks for the video as always satch ❤

The only time the game tries to suggest to you to buy a kit is on the ‘Packs’ menu that tells you what packs you have installed. Once you leave the Home Screen and go in game, the game never tells you about packs or content you don’t have installed except for worlds. Which is exactly what Sims 3 did.

ok, so I did deep dive into sims 3, been playing it instead of sims 4 for a while now. When you get a World from the Sims 3 Store, you don't just get the world itself, you get the items, you get the lots that were built specific to the world, you get a whole new environment. For example, Barnacle Bay, I believe it is the most haunted world there is in Sims 3. You would think it would be Moonlight Falls, but no, they have graves hidden on residential lots, in secret underground areas, there are graves all over. There are new restaurants, there are new venues, new festival lots, there is a LOT to a Sims 3 world. Realize a Sims 3 World easily has a minimum of 40 lots. MINIMUM. And yes there are modders who can and do MAKE whole new worlds including all the restaurants and such, but not everyone is knowledgable enough to do that, and the Store worlds are GOOD. Or I think they are. I'm not saying anyone should buy them, but I am saying that when you are just doing a shallow dive you don't REALLY see everything when it comes to a world in Sims 3.

The Sims 3 store has a spreadsheet that some user set up ages ago that tracks when all the items go on the Daily Deal and when their best price is. The store also had the "complete your set" feature, and that alone makes it way better than kits for me. Kits hardly ever go on sale, and I got more stuff in a sims 3 store set than in a kit.
I've gotten at least two venues that were almost free, the rest more than half price off, using all the features. That Roaring Heights world you looked at is 969 Sim Points when its at its lowest on the Daily Deal.
I got entire sets within compilations for free just because the "complete your set" thing is so broken. Its astounding how much you can get for cheap if you strategize using it. If you had two or three items in a compilation set that you snapped up on Daily Deal, you could get the rest of the sets in the compilation for absolutely free. I got the "Level Up Collection" that you were disappointed in for free that way.
Personally I think all the people who whine about pricing on the Sims 3 store just didn't know how to utilize it properly to get the best deals. And that's really a "them" problem. Cause there is absolutely zero ways to use the Sims 3 store to justify Kits unless you're dumb enough to pay full price for everything. Absolutely zero. Not even a gold medalist in mental gymnastics could convince me.

*THIS.* I don't think I've bought a single venue or set for full price off the sims 3 store. If players were educated on how the website functions, and the daily deal rotation schedule, they would save hundreds of dollars. Because like you said, when stuff goes on sale, it's rarely below 50% off. Usually it's 60-85% off at the highest rotation, which is an insanely great deal.

The reason why I buy some kits is because CC items are sometimes looking absolutely horrible and make my game more laggy than it already is. Also, I like Maxis Match CC and not Alpha CC. I use my kits everytime and it looks amazing. What I also liked about the Campers kit was the fact that some items were functional, like you could actually use them. But maybe it will destroy the idea of the stuff packs … I feel like there should be a good combo of stuff packs and kits. That’ll probably never happen since EA is just about the money.

The Sims 3 Store IS a cash grab, no doubt, but we should keep in mind that registering EPs gives us free SimPoints and we have the Complete Your Set feature which adds discounts to sets that we own parts of. Not to mention Daily Deal which is VERY helpful for saving money, especially if you're familiar with the DD Spreadsheet which has all the best deals.
I own basically the entire Store, and I barely spent any money on it because I used every trick in the book to save money.

Back in my days lol I sound so old but anyways the sims 3 store had a way to earn points instead of paying for these items with cash. You watch video ads and you would get points, kinda like Swagbucks. My mom & I would get points like crazy and then share everything with eachother. Ofcourse this feature is gone now but it was pretty fun to do. Sims 3 was the best for me, the open world and the available to create your own world maps was also an awesome feature as well.

That annoyed me very much while building and showed me even while in game how much my game was lacking (I only ever could afford base game). The Sims 4 is cash grabby as well but at leats they leave me alone in the game itself while I am playing.

It might be a but pricey but in a long term, it's way better than kits. As you shown in the video, there are sets that contain cas item and build and buy object in one that is actually useful i.e you can use it multiple time without feeling meh.
Not only that but there are beautiful worlds such as Aurora Skies or Hidden springs or even Sunlit tides that is imo worth the price. There's also themed sets.
My favorite combination is Roaring Heights world and Fifth Avenue Fashion.

The quality of the Sims 3 store stuff was much better, you could pick and choose what you wanted and the more stuff you had from one pack, the cheaper it got. There were lots of ways to get stuff for a very small price or even for free, if you followed certain strategies. Not to mention that there was ALWAYS some kind of sale going on and you had the make-me-an-offer machine. Oh, and you could watch ads to get free simpoints. The sims 3 restaurant content where you have your own restaurant, etc was broken AF. Chefs not going to the venue. Sooooo many routing issues. It was a mess. You had to get some mods to fix it (sound familiar?). The Sims 3 was freaking amazing, and I love it... still go back to it often... but I feel sometimes we idealize it, when it had its own set of game breaking bugs and terrible issues. TS3 had a HUGE list of Mods I simply could NOT play the game without (not for convenience, but because it optimized the game and allowed me to actually play all that expensive content I spent hundreds of dollars on... just like TS4 has a few). I remember having one mod, in TS3, just to purge stuff that would flood the sims inventories and the world, causing massive amounts of lag and crashing. Like every time a sim went somewhere, they would buy a car and you would have just cars parked everywhere and sims with 50 cars in their inventories. Craziness. So while I love TS3, I'll never forget it too had some faults. To me they are different sides of the same coin. Lots of bugs that we mod our way out of.

    • @reinholder63
      @reinholder63 Рік тому

I will say this: I had all the sims store stuff, or at least most of it. There's a lot of fun items I do miss. Most of the shop worlds were very good (the reason some are real money and not points is because they were sold as physical copies in stores... but they would add them to the store so you can buy them online as well, very similar to Game Packs in TS4). And they are usually the reason I load up TS3 here and there. It also had fun themes I miss. Like dragons, fairies (I played a lot with fairies), boat houses, horses (I miss horses so much), some interesting worlds, some of the celebrity stuff (like acrobat), going into the future... stuff like that was fun. But when it came to playing, it kind of felt bland after a little while. For me, at the end of the day, all I could REALLY do is have a family with a huge family tree, long generations. I think the TS4 succeeds a little better in providing specifics. Like if you want to have a farm and be fully self sufficient, you can do that. There's content for that with lot traits, challenges, etc. So there's a little more purpose that I wish was present in TS3.

I think UA-cam is eating my comments... First, there's a doc online that lists all the upcoming daily deals so you can get most things at half price or better (it has the whole three month rotation listed with times). As an example, I recently got the Boardwalk venue he showed for 969 points - so half price. Also, can we mention that it lets you build your own custom roller coasters? The Sims 4 could never.
Second, the prices are better in dollars: $10 for 1000 points, and $40 for 5000.

If you compare similar sets, like the Hipster Loft for $15 with the Loft Kit for $5, the store is a SUPER bad deal. Everything Kits do isn’t taking away from other packs. But the store would paywall venues that would normally come with other packs, as one large micro transaction. A venue type with 1 - 2 new gameplay items for $20 is so so wrong.
I’m glad we’ve moved past that and I hope Kits are as close to micro transactions as we get.

Don't want to defend Sims 3 Store too much, it was where they perfected the overpriced bundle method that we now call game and stuff packs. But it's hard to describe how much less of a ripoff it was compared to Sims 4, and not just because you could order items individually. Like that rollercoaster set alone is more animation work than they've put into anything in The Sims 4.

Consider kits/Sims 3 store to be salt. Sims 3 is such a fun game on its own and the expansion packs add so much that ts3 doesn't really have major wounds, just cuts and scrapes. When you rub in the salt, it stings a bit maybe but it's negligible. But Sims 4? The base game is tragic and the packs are about as deep as the layers of snow you get with seasons. It has massive, gaping wounds everywhere that desperately need stitches - you rub salt into any of that and it's going to hurt like a bitch. Even if it's less salt than what you rubbed in for ts3, it's going to hurt more.
TL;DR: Because Sims 3 was a better game, cash grabs were more tolerable

In comparison, the TS3 store was totally worth it in comparison.

The Sims 3 store was overpriced but people didn't really need to buy from Sims 3 store to enjoy the game because the Sims 3 DLC's had so much gameplay and build/buy items. My favorite items from the Sms 3 store were the casino items, the bakery set, the carnival set just to name a few. They usually would have alot of sales, so that was when I got them.
I wouldn't mind the kits if they were more gameplay related rather than just build/buy and cas items. It seems like all these kits afterwhile look like recolors or redesigns of things we already have in the game. Where is the bands/music kits where we have more instruments, a kit of items where we can have a functional amusement park or waterpark, a sports kits where we can play golf, tennis, volleyball, baseball, hockey, an arcade kit that also included laser tag or a casino kit where we have items to run a functional casino. These types of kits would add gameplay which is sorely lacking in the game.

So it never felt like you had to buy everything on the store to get a full game experience. With the sims 4 it feels like you need to get extra content in order to get a full game experience, and even then, the extra content is massively stripped down compared to what we would get in the past.

Only morons pay full price for store stuff. I got venues for less than $5, I even got some venues for free.
So. If someone paid $10 for hair, thats a them problem not a me problem

@@lj2265 fair enough, but i saw someone say that they would rather get only one hairstyle than buying a cas kit lol i was just so baffled at that idea
but, as you implied, not everyone knows of this spreadsheet that you're talking about or maybe don't even have the time to look at it
just because you know how and when to buy stuff doesn't make it less capitalistic

@@spkoro I mean, duh. Its a corporation, the entire thing corporations do is capitalism. Its like criticizing a fish for swimming or a bird for flying. If people were really that mad about capitalism they'd sell their shit and move to a hippie commune lol I like to dis corps the same as anyone else, but people acting like the store was the worst thing ever is absurd. Just because people don't know how to use something properly and get the most out of it doesn't mean it was worse than Kits.

Why I'm only seeing this now... lol The Sims 3 Store is worse than the Sims 4 Kits imo. TS3 Store literally offers more gameplay with the venue and the items cost the same price as an EP and then they are poorly done
