Today at Badgerworks, we take on a relatively simple build - an Airfix starter kit, the North American Mustang IV. I realised when I saw this that I've never actually built a Mustang, so I thought I'd give it a go. We also wrestle with a tricky airbrush and see if we can finally get it to work...

The extra holes on the wing are for the underwing stores on a F-51, Korean war era plane. I've built three of these; the original 'Red Tail' issue, the F-51, and the one you're building here. They all went together without any hassle. I had one tiny quibble with the 'Red Tail': the omission from the painting guide to paint the pilot as an Afro American. I was proud to have the aircraft of one of the 'Tuskeegee Airmen' in my collection. The ancient Airfix P51-D kit is still one of my favourites - it was about the fifth kit I ever made. I would like another, if only for the name given to it by the pilot: 'FOOL'S PARADISE IV' I always liked that, and the Roy Cross header art was thrilling - the P51 is dropping it's tanks, as an FW-190 gets dangerously close.
Fantastic video - really pleased to see you doing a war bird again thanks very much - grate entertainment.
I would agree with some of the other comments, you might have a nozzle issue. I had the same on my Iwata. The tiny O ring that seals the nozzle was knackered. You can also use natural beeswax to seal the nozzle which I've tried and it does work.
I would check the nozzle tightness and/or the seal. I've had the same problem with my H&S Ultra
Interesting! Thanks for the video 😎👍
Ian needs to take a drink at 8:48 into the video. LOL
As always well done! ❤️
🤣🍺
Loving it - well done TCB 😁
I would definitely check the tightness of the nozzle. I've had this issue myself and a loose nozzle was the cause.
Thanks, I'll give that a look.
@@SteamGeezerUK I have never used an airbrush, but my job for 40 something years was a paint sprayer.
The only time I got air blowing inside the paint pot was if the air cap was loose or blocked, or the inner nozzle gasket not fitted correctly.
Nice build, as ever.
Interesting reaction between the varnish and the paint- I've had something similar but not the same happen on my latest build. I used the same Tamiya colours, applied Humbrol gloss varnish and noticed very fine crackles in the green XF81 but not in the grey XF83. It's happened before with X14 Sky Blue but not with any other colours. It's not particularly noticeable unless you're looking for it, but it would be nice to know why it happens. Or maybe it's just one of those things.
Your nosle is not tight. Check it is tight. This happens with any airbrush if it’s not. I think?
I'll check that out, thanks for the tip :-)
The paint effect that had happened is called the orange peel effect. There are a few you tube videos out there as there are a few things you have to look out for.
Wow those are the equivalent of 18 pounds 50 here
