Thank you Angela. I binge watched all your quilting with rulers videos, bought a ruler foot and a set of your first four rulers and got down to it. Today was Slim day, and it is working great! Tomorrow is Shorty day, and I can’t wait to see what I can do. Thank you again.
Thank you so much for saying the ruler foot is not mandatory! I used an oval shaped acrylic foot with rulers on my vintage machines for about two years before I got my acrylic ruler foot. I could manage pretty well. Couldn’t get the rulers in the back of the foot and had to guess the 1/4” thing, but still got it done nicely. I also skip the slider as it was eating the finish off my very vintage black Singers, and I hate gloves so sometimes I use a moisturizer for file clerks to grip paper- works as well for me.
Thank you for these wonderful rulers with the non slip on the bottoms! I bought both sets and plan on using them on my longarm. I have already used Slim and am thinking of ways to use the other ones also. I actually like the smaller rulers. I feel I have more control than with the longer ones.
I am just now getting myself ready for this journey with you. Thank you for your help and step by step tutorials. I feel as if I have a new friend.
I just LOVE seeing/listening to your videos. You’re AWESOME ❤️
Thanks for the video. it's very helpful. Westalee at last came out with a ruler foot for my over 50 year old Singer 411G, so I can now start to learn to use rulers using your great videos. Yaa!
Thanks for the videos. Looking forward to more! I bought the ruler set and can't wait to give this a go.
Hi Pat, how’s your day going with you?
I fell in love with quilting just over a year ago. Fell deeper in love when I learned about freemotion. Just picked up a ruler foot. Now I can play with Slim. Thank You for all the time though that you have put into all your “Babies” Wendy

Great video Angela l bought your rulers and thanks for showing us how to use the rulers can’t wait to see the other rulers showing us how to use them thanks
Thank YOU so much for your support!!!
I’m quite new to FMQ and to FMQ rulers and I’m quite intrigued. Recently took a FMQ class and today had Part 1 of a two-part ruler class. From having been watching some of your videos, I already knew what brand of rulers I wanted to learn with, and I was not disappointed with my first experience! The instructor was showing about the Grippy Spray to put on backs of rulers. I smiled as I already knew I didn’t need that with my CG ruler. 😊 Next I loved the needle stops on mine. I also appreciate the great markings in both light and dark. Thank you so much for your very helpful videos and for creating the very best rulers! I’m so excited to learn and practice FMQ both with and without rulers, and I also feel that working with rulers will also help me develop skills in the FMQ without rulers as well. Thanks so much!
I just love your videos, I have ordered your rulers and can’t way to try them. Thank you Angela.
Thank YOU for watching, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support!!
Haven’t see this for a couple of years still love it, and will use your ruler once we get home from caravanning..thanks for explaining so well!
Love your explanations. Love that everything isn’t perfect. I hear your voice in my head when I’m applying what I’ve learned while sewing 😊
Ditto!!
Great video. You really inspire me to try FMQ. I love you rulers. They are so well thought out.
Great tutorial, this is where I’m at right now. I’m thinking I have a lot of practising to do. thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Just want to say that I love your videos!! I am currently waiting to receive my ruler foot and can't wait to get these rulers. They look so easy to use and such a great idea! Thanks for creating them!
Aww thanks so much! I can't tell you how much I appreciate you watching them!
I enjoy the explanation of getting the quilting done; yes it is intimidating, but as you say, when you break it down into small pieces (yes, pun intended) you realize, yes I can quilt. Thank you for taking the time to, make the video, i know it takes time, and explaining the technique so very well!
Awww, it's so worth it when I get such sweet compliments!
Great video! You provided a lot of very practical ways to use Shorty that even a beginner can use. Thank you!
You are so welcome!! I want everyone to love them as much as I do!
Hi Terry, how’s your day going with you?
Who would think you could do so much with a little shorty!!! Can't wait to start this new adventure in quilting.
Hi Linda, how’s your day going with you?
I love watching your videos..so easy to follow and understand
Thank you Angela, I have bought the family of rulers and I must admit to being very intimidated by them. Your video is inspirational, so tomorrow I will get acquainted with shorty, he and I will become best buddies I am sure. 😳😊
Yay!!! That's exactly why I am doing these videos, I want you to use them and love them as much as I do!
Excellent! Love your rulers the BEST!
Thank you so much, this is my very first interdiction to this. I have a new baby lock Jazz 2, I really want a shorty to begin doing this
Amazing video! Could watch this 24/7 :)
This was incredibly helpful, and a great intro to quilting with rulers. Thanks so much!
I just bought my ruler foot for my Baby Lock Unity, which is a high shank. I also have a queen supreme slider and the gloves. I'm going to get the full set of these rullers.
Just ordered my set of rulers. I’m feeling brave!
Your videos are so fun and informative, thank you so much for you time. I do have a problem I have not seen you address, skipped stitches or stitches not forming when using a ruler foot. I have no problem with hopping foot. But the ruler foot is just driving me crazy. I have rulers to use and can't get past a few stitches so I am not quilting!!!! GRRR
Thanks a lot! One day, I will give it a try; I’m beginning quilting.🌸🌸
Just received your ruler set. So excited! Just had to carefully drill a small hole in each one so I can put them on my ruler pegboard. Have never had a problem before - always drill s-l-o-w-l-y and carefully - and everything is fine. Got three of them all done - and was working on "Archie". Got the hole almost done - when the cat jumped up right in front of me! I jumped; she jumped off - and the drill jumped just a "tich" - just enough to break the top corner off! Arghhhh! Now, I have to order another one! My own fault, I know. But, may I make a suggestion. Angela? There are lots of us that like to hang their rulers - so we need a small hole in each of them - so we don't have to take the chance and drill our own.
Thank you Angela!
Thank YOU for the support!!
I love this "Shorty" ruler. Awesome investment... Thanks Angela for this idea... From SA
Hi stefanie, how’s your day going with you?
I love your tutorials! I just bought a set of your rulers and books. Can’t wait to use them. Any suggestions what filler I should do for the arches using shorty?
Angela, I am sure i saw an ad for a quilting class that you are doing, or possibly did already, in Strasbourg, France or near there. Could you let me know your schedule for classes in France and in Europe? I looked in your class schedule area and could not see any, so this makes me think I might have seen an outdated ad or misread it. Maybe, you could add me to your class schedules announcements in the US and around the world. You give me much inspiration and make quilting feel less threatening. Many thanks.
great video showing how to use your new ruler. I just started out in my quilting journey. I think i need a ruler with auto-correct lol.
Oh my goodness, how amazing would that be!!
I think i can get a lowshank ruler foot from singer that might fit my machines. They are pre 1906, so some alterations to the foot might be required for it to work. I might have an issue with the needle clamp screw hitting the apparatus. I have been looking at a lot of rulers and i like the design of yours incorporating grip into the ruler and the markings.

Angela Walters why does my top thread keep breaking?

Right
Awesome!. .I had recieve shorty and the little straight rulers. .was just waiting for your instruction videos! Quilting is my fav part toooo!
Move videos are coming soon!
Hi Brenda, how’s your day going with you?
Thanks for that Angela, yes that’s the problem the postage it always works out costing as much for postage as it is the package, I’ll try the Internet and see if I can get them here once again thank you very much
Hi Janette, how’s your day going with you?
This is such a great tutorial! Thank you
I would like to know what sewing machine you recommend for someone to learn to quilt and also to use for sewing projects as well. Love watching your videos, the quilts are beautiful. Thank you so much.
I received all four of your rulers for a Christmas present! Yeah! Now I have to work up the courage to use them on my long arm. Have you considered doing a few more quilting videos using your long arm? ...with and without rulers? Also, love your nail polish; have you considered selling a line of polish? :)
I most definitely am doing videos on the longarm....I can't hardly wait to do them! Just have a few more to do first. Thanks so much for watching, I so appreciate the support!
Thank you! Good explanation. Now I will buy.
Super helpful for a beginner, thanks.
You make this look so easy. 😎
I've had just a little practice, lol
Hi Janet, how’s your day going with you?
Thank you Angela 🧡
Hi Deb, how’s your day going with you?
I was recently in Autin, TX...there was a building that was designed on the outside with shorty. So many building there look like quilting patterns.
Hi Sheila, how’s your day going with you?
Hi Angela 😁 just discovered your videos and am loving them. I am wondering what machine you recommend for domestic quilting?
Thank you for the wonderful videos! It was because of them that I decided to purchase all four rulers. I'm just not sure how to get started. What kind of thread, size of needle and what tension setting do you suggest? I am totally new at machine quilting, and I feel like an idiot asking these questions, but I am so excited to get started, but I want to do it the right way and use the correct supplies! Thank you in advance.
I have got to get your rulers!
Hi Jaclyn, how’s your day going with you?
Great video. You did a wonderful job explaining the concept of ruler quilting. Love your energy!
Hi Lori, how’s your day going with you?
I have never wanted to learn how to quilt my tops but watching you makes me want to use those rulers I bought from you. What size stitch do you usually use when quilting with rulers? It appears fairly small.
I don't have a stitch regulator so how fast I move my hands determine the stitch length. Hope that helps!
The stitch length on free motion is 0. How fast you are sewing + how fast you are moving the fabric impacts the length.
I will be processing a order thru fat quarter stop and will include your rulers. I will also have to go to my Bernina dealer and buy a foot. Then it is practice, practice, practice.
Yay!! I hope you will share pictures of how it goes!
Great tutorial.
Fun!!!
I would like to see a video where you use these rulers on a queen size quilt, please :)
I m doing my queen size in sections and sewing together after
Hi, love your videos you make them fun and informatioinal... I bought the quilting foot for my husqvarna from the dealer so I know I have the right one. I used the versatool while waiting for your rulers to arrive. What I found was that it worked great except if I got close to the seam. The foot is so low it really doesn't like to go over the seam and its more of a force it type situation. My question is, is it normal for the foot to be that low, I have attached it as high as I can. In your videos you don't seem to have an issue.....In the beginners guide to Machine Quilting with Rulers video you don't go over seams. Should I not be trying to go over seams with a low foot like this? Thanks for your thoughts on this in advance.
Hello I’m new in quilting can you find out where and if I can get a foot for your rulers and will it fit a elna sewing machine.
I love all your videos. Thank you.
Hi Angela. I just got your rulers and ruler foot. Really excited to try them out. Do I use the same settings on my machine as I do for free motion quilting (0 stitch length, low pressure, lowered feed dogs)? Thanks so much
Hi Angela. Love your tutorials and have learned so much. Was wondering if your rulers were in any of the stores in Canada??
THANK YOU!!!
Love your shows, thank you. I can’t decide which ruler to buy. Is there a package deal if I buy all 4? 😀
I bought my set of 4 on Etsy from BrooklynDollFabric.
THANK YOU!!
Hi, thanks for video. Do you need to use special needles when using the rulers? Thanks
Your videos are amazing! I have pieced, tied and hand quilted quilts forever, okay longer than you've been here...Before quilt in day. But, machine quilting has been a mystery... Yes, I've run stiches down seams but not even a curve. You have made it seem do-able. THANK YOU! Do you know if the foot will fit a Juki 2000? If not, I'll be very careful... Thanks again
I have a really old Juki and found a ruler foot that works. Check out ebay, all you need to know is your shank height.
Yay! I am so glad that you find them helpful!!
Would you consider making a companion book w/motifs using the rulers? I would love to have a handy guide to refer to.
I would really like to see you do some of this stuff on a long-arm so that just some of us that are long armors can see how you do it sometimes seeing is believing
Thank you. Helps a lot to see it in action. Which HandiQuilter machine were you sewing with in this video?? Thank you.
Angela, I have 3 of your rulers and rulers from Westalee. Can I use these instead of FMQ? I am trying to get used to the FMQ side of quilting. Thanks for all you do.
Angela your awesome!!! I wanna ruler foot and rulers. I have a Juki HZL F600. I think it’s a low shaft? Approx 1/2” from the feed dogs and the screw to the shaft. Would that be a low shaft?
Angela, Thank You for this demo. I recently picked up some of your rulers and would love to try them. I have a free motion foot with the screw on the side so I be lieve all I need is bottom part of the foot, correct? Could I have it sent from your store or where should I try?
I LOVE your videos! I am fairly new to quilting and have learned so much-can't wait to try these rulers. I am currently making my first large quilt and am very nervous about quilting it all on my small machine. Is it possible to piece my blocks together in rows, then quilt a row at a time, then attach the quilted rows together with sashing to avoid the bulk of the whole quilt? Please advise
Thankyou
I had understood that I needed 1/8 inch thickness rulers for the low shank machines. Do you offer these in 1/8th inch?
I’m realllly struggling with finding a ruler foot attachment that will work for my machine. I finally found one that works a little but it won’t go over seams, even when they are perfectly flat and pressed open. Which FMQ foot are you using that u can remove the bottom part of and put the foot foot attachment on? I seen the attachment part on ur website but not the actual spring foot. I’m using a low shank ever sewn sparrow 25. I could really use some help.
Hi Angela. Thank you for your video. I have two questions: your rulerfoot isn't moving up and down, correct? Over here you do not get ruler foot and I purchased myself one in the US. Hope it works out... Second question: do you change your machine foot pressure on your quilt? Thank you so much.
It doesn't move up and down, it stays stationary. You can adjust the height of the foot with a little dial that turns on the foot. Hope that helps!
I'd love to learn ruler work and love my Omnigrid regular rulers. So feel Omnigrid ruler foot rulers would be exceptional. I have an older Singer 411G slant shank sewing machine and I can't seem to find a ruler foot. Thank you for pointing out that I can use my darning or free motion foot. Where are you located? I live in Canada
Hi Gail, how’s your day going with you?
Last summer, I bought an expensive set with a ruler foot, a straight ruler, and a curved ruler. Using them is not as easy as it looks. I've used the straight one just once and ended up drawing lines with it and then quilting on the lines. I will need a lot of practice before I use them again on a real quilt.
Keep at it!! I promise it gets easier with practice!!
Phyllis, I am learning to use rulers but what I am certain of if you will mark your quilt with lines you will do much better. There are cross hair rulers and others that will help you! Fun fun!
Angela, I would love for you to come to Road2Ca and be an instructor next year, please!!!
Awww, I will have to try to work that out!
Thank you for the wonderful, helpful tutorial, I just ordered my ruler foot. I have a Janome MC QCP 7700 machine. I have never done this technique. Can you tell me if I should lower the feed dogs as you would for free motion quilting ( I read this in the manual) but it doesn't say anything about changing anything else. Is this correct, I am brand new, starting to sew after many years and want to practice. I am going to check out the rulers and also the supreme slider. Thank you again and hope you can answer my questions..
I can’t see if you got a response to the feed dog down or normal can you tell me if you got a response? Please
Me too please. Love the idea of using rulers but would love to know if feed dogs up or down ?
Along with the poster below, I am looking for a ruler foot for a Pfaff Performance 5.0. Any recommendations?
This looks easier than open lines set in you half to follow.....Where do I purchase Archie & Shorty?NICE TUT, TYVM!!!
Hi Zerlene, how’s your day going with you?
I just purchased Shorty and tried using it on my Janome skyline S 3 machine. My machine stitch is small, tiny.
What am I doing wrong?
I am making the leap and just got a ruler foot. Now I just need to decide which ruler to get first. Probably Shorty or Slim. Does the packaging have ideas on what quilting motifs can be used? I am not so creative when it comes to quilting ideas. I also heard you have a new Craftsy class on this that I will have to check out. Anyway I am excited to quilt all those quilt tops in storage.
Hi Elizabeth, how’s your day going with you?
I have a Pfaff Creative 2.0 and purchased a generic ruler foot for a low shank machine ( which is what I have),plus.......I bought your whole family of rulers but lo and behold!!!! My machine does not engage the bobbin thread when the ruler foot is attached; any ideas?
I need this
I recently order some bobbin washers and now I am not sure if those were only for free motion quilting.
Love your videos. Do you know if there is a ruler foot for a vintage singer slant 403? I have not been able to find one.
Maria- as far as I know there aren't any slant shank ruler feet.I did buy an acrylic darning foot for my slant. I haven't tried any fmq or ruler work with it because the dogs don't drop either, but you could try. Or, get a second vintage machine just to fmq, you may find a 15 clone for $10 $20.
Hello Angela, I am brand new to quilting. I have no problem getting to the "sandwich" part of quilting, but the actual quilting is giving me fits. I have watched your video and I see you are moving in either forward/ motion or sideways. How on earth do you keep the stitch length consistent??? HELP
I am probably going to purchase your rulers but I was wondering? do you have a ruler for circles?
I have a Bernia Quilters addition 550. Do I need to buy a special foot and if so what one. And where do I purchase your rulers.
Hi Angela, enjoying your videos. Just got Elvira in the mail today, now I just need to get a ruler foot for my Phaff 2044 sewing machine. Does your ruler foot work with Phaff sewing machines?
Hi Theresa, how’s your day going with you?
I enjoyed this video and will view your other videos but first I have a question. I have a Bernina 770 and a Janome MC 8200 will your rulers work on both of these machines? I also have a Babylock Aurora
Do you ship to Canada? I am having trouble ordering.
How do you get the stitch length even when you stop and start all the time. I thought you had to keep going and try not to stop.
Angela what free motion quilting ruler foot would yu recommend with a singer sewing machine 8500Q which is a low shank machine. There are so many on the market. Singer does not have a ruler foot which looks like the ruler foot in your tutorial for their machines. They however have a darning and quilting ruler. I am a real beginner in quilting and have been watching your free motion quilting tutorials for beginners and am enthralled with Yr free motion tutorials. I would like to get the right tools for free motion quilting .can yu help me
I know the feed dogs are down but what stops your quilt from slipping as you move along
How can i stitch in the ditch with this shorty ruler on a long arm? Im having so much trouble with it!!!
I have a Brother SE600 sewing machine do you think this would have a ruler foot
Why am I stitching my Supreme SlIder? I get it into place and next thing I know, I’m stitching into it! Grrr! Any suggestions?
On a HQ Forte, do they come with a Ruler foot? and what is the attachment to be used with Rulers.
How much pressure do you have to put on the ruler to keep it from shifting? It seems like managing the ruler with one hand and the quilt with the other -- especially a large quilt -- would be pretty labor intensive. My neck and shoulders are starting to ache just watching you in the video . . .
Hi Judy, how’s your day going with you?
Do you know if Husqvarna has a ruler foot for their machines like the Diamond , SE, or Opal 690Q?
