I really never listened to this song before David Bowie died and now it's one of my favorites of his. Can hear the Velvet Underground influence and sound for sure.
Sudden urge to listen to Queen Bitch after decades. This was a B side to the Rebel Rebel single...back in good old vinyl days and 45/33RPM analog players. God damn it this is such a good tune. My favorite Bowie tune....so raw ...before his more commercial material. When I heard it the first time I stopped listening to Rebel Rebel. The B side became the A side LOL!!!! That guitar riff at the start form Mick Ronson ...those lyrics ...absolute GEM.
+William H. Baird I agree with you...I love most Bowie songs but I remember when I first heard this song I was listening to it like on repeat so many times....
+Lucy Beckwith This wasn't my first Bowie song but when I first heard it I KEPT ON LISTENING TO IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNTIL MY MP3 PLAYER COULDNT TAKE IT lol.... Sorry for the caps...This guy is one of the most influential musician ever and I am kinda sad he's gone...
@@Magicprincess9000 same I miss him we learnt about him in school 1 month before him passing and the teacher pulled the ones who likes him aside including me and said “ I’m sorry he has passed Bowie’s on Mars” I was only young but I still remember
I still love watching his performance of this song on the “ Old Grey Whistle Test “ there was some footage of it on TV a couple of nights ago , generally looking a bit of a serious muso while playing “ oh you pretty things “ but finishing with a hip shaking performance doing this number ,what with the haircut and clothes pure rock’n’roll.
Oh for the love of Mike, it's BIBBITY BOBBITY HAT, as in BIBBITY BOBBITY BOO, it's a reference to the Disney Cinderella movie that features the song BIBBITY BOBBITY BOO. He's referring to the hat the Fairy GodMother of Cinderella wore. It's not a flattering hat. You can look up the dang song here on youtube by typing in Bibbity Bobbity Boo. It WAS a well known reference back in the day when he wrote this song.
Okay, I'm going to make this comment one more time. "Bibbity, bobbity boo," is not spelled bipperty bopperty boo. And at the end, David doesn't say aha, he says, uh huh. I appreciate you went to the trouble to put on the lyrics, but you're missing a cultural reference here that was evidently important to both Lou Reed and David Bowie. The bibbity bobbity boo hat in Cinderella was kinda like a witches' standard pointy hat. I'd love for you to take a look at it in the Disney animated version of Cinderella. Thanks.
It's about a fishy pushy drag queen who snags the trade he wanted but didn't get, note he throws his bags down the hall, he claims he could do better, makes no effort, then is pissed when the guy didn't come back to him but went off with the one who could put real women out of his path. It's also a heavy nod to the Velvet Underground, the Warhol scene rife with drag queens the old 42nd street and the goings on at the Chelsea Hotel where you needed a score card to keep up with who was what and what were they getting up to. You could just see him peering out the Chelsea's window watching the action on the street, the other queens jealous of their most successful sister the Queen Bitch. That should spell it out for you, I used to hang with that Max's crowd and stayed at that notorious hotel, was friends with Holly and Candy, both RIP now, but miss Nico the most.

dsfddsgh I would hope so the song is a tribute to Lou Reed and the whole Warhol scene.
The accent is strong in this one! Part of the reason why I love it so much :-)

who else LOVES David's nonsense sounds before the song starts 😊
To anyone that has been strongly attracted to someone and felt the hurts, this song is for you and me.
Such a good running song

My favorite song by these guys.
The Damned United
It really fit the soundtrack, didn't it?
@@WillieDuitt1 Yes, it was really a happy ending
He didn't say the name of the song in the song.
Lots of songs are like that, take a look at the discography for a band like fall out boy or something. Pretty standard

It could of been me!
Oh yea it could of been me!
Why didn’t I say!!
Why didn’t I say! No No No!
love this song ...never read much into the lyrics until i see this video but im assuming bowie is taking a swipe at his wife at the time angie bowie
Nope, talking about Lou Reed. I think.
nah talking about queers bitching, showboating and fucking
Why is it called Queen bitch but he never says Queen bitch during the song
Long have I wondered much the same about "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Lithium," "Bohemian Rhapsody," and, for that matter, "Space Oddity"
NebulizerChi I KNOW RIGHT!
NebulizerChi space oddity is just a parody of space Odyssey
