About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

I think this was a golden age for Bowie and his band. I miss him.
MeToo
Well I think 1971 was Bowie's golden age but I agree
And I do still he was like a friend I never had But he stayed my friend even with out asking And I thank David Jones for that ps my name is Frankie Jones who ever knows what we do know 🤔
Me too
mind-blowing, without a doubt. I remember when punk rock hit London in 1977, it sounds like punk but on a completely different level
Ppl can say this was a golden age but his entire career was a golden age. When was Bowie not a music god? You might have favorites among his eras but he was constantly amazing.
Now he's in that exclusive club in the sky😢 always wanted to see u guys live. Im from Hull same as Andy n play guitar n bass, love jamming to your albums \m/
Thought you would have mentioned Hulls greatest son Mick Ronson mate
It was also Micks golden age as Bowie used his skill throughout his career until Mike Death....
That look on his face at the end. He knew they had absolutely nailed it!
Yeah, SO nailed it! Wonderful to see again. Miss the man more than I ever thought possible nn
He laid it right down!
The incomparable Mick Ronson on lead, this was Bowie's best band, and best era.
I often thought so. Mick had a great sound. But Bowie wouldn't be Bowie without all the wild music he made over his career.
Bowie wasn't human. He was an alien sent to entertain us.
I believe that!! 🧙♂
A spider from Mars...
Maybe he wasn't acting in "The Man Who Fell to Earth"
So true
MAGIC... I'm 66 and I can still remember the lyrics... loving singing these, thankyou
Amen! Totally agree! Great performances!!! Miss Mr David Bowie!
Same 66 .......... like it was yesterday
I am as well. I was introduced to TRAFOZSATSFM by my friend's very cool older sister... changed my musical trajectory. Oh yeah, Honkey Chateau on the same day.
'The Old Grey Whistle Test' was the best music programme EVer. So many greats when they were young and at their peak.
High time the BBC repeated them all.
@@douglasbell1470 If only ......
I almost forgot just how enormous he was on stage.. he belonged there..
Mick Ronson & David Bowie REST IN PEACE LEGENDS!!!
And Trevor.
And Bassman Trevor Boulder too .
Losing Mic Ronson was a huge tragedy. We do have some recordings!
@@skylarkman2000 That was the guy with the strange, dyed beard, is that correct? Hope he didn't use the look to scare little kids. Talent came 👏 with the wacky performer. Fun.
thank you, i was racking my brain trying to remember the guitar player's name. incredibly under rated but when you have bowie out front you're just lucky to be there playing with him i suppose. their creativity was boundless. one never had to worry if "bowie's new album" was going to be any good. all we cared about was getting tickets to see him which i was fortunate enough to do on 2 occasions at MSG and radio city music hall in '74 and '76 or '77, i can't remember
I remember watching this on the telly over 50 years ago. The raw power of Bowie and Ronson blew me away!
Same here. It was sleepy late night during the week. I loved that OGWT show.
All that great stuff got broadcast late unless I sneaked it. And, we could not record it except The All Night Album Replay. Ziggy Stardust, and I had to force myself awake, but I got it! Now, I am so guilty I need to find the 💿 cd.
The raw power still comes through today. It's almost punk, just better crafted.
Hi From The Sky ⭐️
Hi back Queen..
"She don't make false claims!"
The serious face Bowie makes at 0:52 after he sings "Better than that" is so perfect for this song. His mime training taught him to have such a unique and expressive stage presence.
Did not know he had mime training!
Love this track! The Velvet Underground influence is undeniable on this one. Well done Bowie!
Was JUST gonna say that

Absolutely quality and still as fresh today. I’m 61 and am so glad I was there back then 👍
David Bowie's music always spoke to me, was so damn dear to my heart. I struck on him immediately. He was ahead of the curve, in this day and age i reckon nobody can reach even the half what he did in his pomp. He's criminally banging, captivating and altogether a hunk with an awful lot of merits going for himself. I'm always all eyes and ears watching his nonesuch performances. He never missed a beat. That's the stuff. Rest in piece our beloved shape-shifting chameleon . My everlasting love beggars description.😍😍💕💕💞💞💗💗
He smoked and didn't take care of himself.
@@jonathanstoutenburg8634 didn't need to, still looked amazing
🕊🙏🕊
@@jonathanstoutenburg8634 Why be a jerk?
David was not " ahead of the curve" he WAS the curve !!
I'm 66, always had Bowie's music playing in my home, older siblings then on the radio as well but haven't heard this gem in such a long time! Thank you David Bowie for making life more fun!l💎💓
I'm 62 yrs old & have seen Bowie 4 times in concert, no one is better, & this live clip is awesome, blessings from Glasgow X
First time I heard this song was in Steve Zissou and it was the scene after the movie was shown and this song plays as bill murray walks and it pans into the credits
Always thought that was so cool and this instantly became my favorite Bowie song
The entire soundtrack for Steve Zissou is comprised of Bowie songs. Most of which were covered by one of the cast members, Sue Jorge.
This incredible live performance needs 100 million views at least.
100% TOTALLY AGREE 🎶
I give it like 3 a month, easy, lol!
Usaron playback pa
NOT 'live'!
David Bowie a part of our culture
I still play 'hunky dory ' at least once a week, sometimes more. It's a fantastic album and I sing along quite loudly, but I don't care. Love the 'ziggy ' album too, and as it says on the cover "play loud ". So I do.
This is my all-time favorite Bowie song! When he sings with Rono such great melody’s ,there’s nothing like it in this world I miss you so much David Bowie I know you’re looking down on us love you much
Wow I love this song and it melts my heart anytime I listen to it. Are you a music lover❤️?
Of course huge Bowie fan the 70’s Punk scene and so on
I’m not a Bowie expert but beyond his great music , he came across as such a nice dude with a great sense of humor.
Mine too brother.
The Mick Ronson period is my favorite of Bowie's.
David Bowie, his artistry lives with all the stars 🌟 🤩 ✨️ 🌠🌌
One of my most favorite of Bowie's tunes!!! This song kicks major ass!!! RIP BOWIE!!! Miss you more than I can say......
Great Performance! 💯
Some of us were just dwere just discussing Bowie on David Lynch's UA-cam channel this morning, so this is a timely surprise! Long live Phillip Jeffries!!☆⚡☆
Oh, the GOLDEN AGE of Rock N Roll. Many of those 'pure musicians' are now gone, but they will never be forgotten .🎵
My friend and I went to see two good buddies of Bowie, (Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson) play in a bar style venue during the mid 80s in Victoria, BC Canada, where Mick was playing at arms length away from our front row table . We are now in our 60s and we'll never forget that performance. Rest in Peace David & Mick. Thank you for the music.☮🎵
Cant believe it was 1972 ! At 64 I still rock to this great music....my son too. Timeless and brilliant.
i'm right behind you. even my mom liked bowie.
I've loved David since 1987 when I went to see Labyrinth as a 7 year old. My son is 19 and is also a huge Bowie fan and I hope that if he has children they will be Bowie fans too! 💜
That 70s analogue tape recording is so raw and live it sounds like Dave and Mick are right here in my room playing for me personally, you just don`t get this sound from modern digital recordings which always sound so antiseptic and soul-less.
This Old Grey Whistle Test version is so much better than the 45 rpm record (showing my age, lol).
fabulous..does not get much better than this..
Worth it for his boots alone. Really the first artist I ever loved and very much continue to. Truly a loss.
What can I say that's brilliant 👏 love BOWIE seen him live sound and vision tour at maine Rd no one can touch him the best over six decades 💙
I love how he change the lines everytime! ❤️
Wish he would have made another 10 albums with this sound. First time hearing it. Of course I love the classics too.
David Bowie & The Spiders from Mars, Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick 'Woody' Woodmansey Belong in the Rock 'N ' Roll Hall Of Fame. Their work stands as proof that they deserve to be there. Rest In Peace David Bowie, Mick Ronson and Trevor Bolder. You will never be forgotten !
Outstanding performance! The 70's were great because of Bowie. The most beautiful and inspirational musician of 20th century. His life continuing to his creation.
there's no doubt that bowie influenced every other kind of music from heavy metal, pure rock and roll, punk, concept albums, new wave, soul, R & B and on and on. he had no boundaries and never let himself be pigeon holed into some genre. he was his own genre. i'll also give some of the credit to bolan
And he will
And many many more

@@perrygoldstein6332 And there's a very distinct Lou Reed influence on Bowie here. But yeah, I'd never go a week without listening to Bowie, never have and never will.
Bowie was one of a very rare breed........music , writing, acting, painting , philosophy , predictor of the future i.e where online was heading. As near a genius in the arts as you will ever get. David RIP
You forgot modelling .......
Bowie always put on an incredible performance - this was such a joy to watch!
My aunt went to Maybury road school in Hull with Mick in the 60s. Went out with him for a short period of time-well pleased with that as you would imagine as a Bowie fan!
Majestic first 7" single I ever bought, never seen this version. When Bowie and Mick Ronson share the mic I truly feel glad to be alive. RIP the pair of them. One Love.
Never a single in it's own right, it appeared on the b-side of Rebel Rebel - think it was 1974.
@@neilparnell5712 Yes it was 1974, I still remember buying it, Boots if I remember rightly. Long time ago!
B side was the best anyway. I lost interest after Diamond Dogs to be honest.
Was it Boots in Sheffield by any chance?@@johnblonde8589
What a song and what a great performance.
one of his best songs, ths version is even better than the studio version
I agree 100%

Always been one of my favorite Bowie songs.
So amazingly great. Music when it was still good.
What a performance - Bowie always on point
Lyrics:
I'm up on the eleventh floor
And I'm watching the cruisers below
He's down on the street
And he's trying hard to pull sister Flo
Oh, my heart's in the basement
My weekend's at an all time low
'Cause she's hoping to score
So I can't see her letting him go
Walk out of her heart
Walk out of her mind
Oh, not her
She's so swishy in her satin and tat
In her frock coat and bipperty-bopperty hat
Oh God, I could do better than that
Oh, yeah
She's an old-time ambassador
Of sweet talking, night walking games
Oh and she's known in the darkest clubs
For pushing ahead of the dames
If she says she can do it
Then she can do it, she don't make false claims
But she's a queen and such a queen
Such a laughter is sucked in their brains
Now she's leading him on
And she'll lay him right down
Yes, she's leading him on
And she'll lay him right down
But it could have been me
Yes, it could have been me
Why didn't I say? Why didn't I say?
No, no, no
She's so swishy in her satin and tat
In her frock coat and bipperty-bopperty hat
Oh God, I could do better than that
So I lay down a while
And I gaze at my hotel wall
Oh, the cot is so cold
It don't feel like no bed at all
Yeah, I lay down a while
And look at my hotel wall
And he's down on the street
So I throw both his bags down the hall
And I'm phoning a cab
'Cause my stomach feels small
There's a taste in my mouth
And it's no taste at all
It could have been me
Oh yeah, it could have been me
Why didn't I say? Why didn't I say?
No, no, no
She's so swishy in her satin and tat
In her frock coat and bipperty-bopperty hat
Oh God, I could do better than that
Oh you betcha
Oh yeah
Uh-huh
Mmm
This is insane!!!!
Always one of my favourites from Bowie ❤️
I always love Bowie but I especially love this extra strength Bowie!

Excellent behavior! I still love this track 51 years after I heard it for the first time as a 12 year old. Thank you!

Those were the days! Bowie was magical; 🪄 ✨ and back then we were free spirits. I called my dog Bowie, as he has two different colour eyes 😉

I’m incredibly lucky to have a dear friend in Woody, it never ceases to amaze me how he seems to get forgotten by everyone, they always talk about Bowie & Ronno. Woody is the last remaining member from this amazing band and, in my opinion, the band that set David up for super stardom. Woody is a real drummers drummer, solid backbeat, no ridiculous fills just a truly talented player. I called him one day to tell him that I’d been offered an audition for a band in LA just to get his opinion and he was really thrilled for me, so off I went, leaving my band behind. Arriving in LA for the first time in my life I walked into the rehearsal studio and there was the remaining members of Woody’s band “Screen Idols”!! That little bugger had set me up, lol, I was taking his place in his band as he’d called it quits but didn’t tell me. I was floored to say the least and although the project only lasted another 18 months it was an amazing experience. Plus I’m still here in the US 42 years later! Let’s never forget the part he played.
Acid, Folk, Glam, Punk, New Wave, Popular. Bowie did it well.
Everything is stylish, hair, clothes, aerobatics music. He is all in the music, in the rhythm, unforgettably...
25 years old and such a great Artist! Still miss him...
I always loved his music 🎶 he was great I have all his music makes me feel good ✌🏻❤️
Смотрю на этих парней и восхищаюсь! Как они делают эту песню! Как играет Мик Ронсон! Какая мимика у Девида! Это шедевр! Обожаю Боуи!

Live without a net! I'd like to see anyone in today's music try this on live TV.
He was a poet who happened to be musically gifted as well and set out to change the face of pop music, over and over again… one of a kind who will be missed as long as music will be around

I'm so pleased to have seen him 5 times throughout his career. How privileged we were to have such a musical genius in our time. A big thanks to my school headmaster who allows me and a mate to have two days off school to go to London's Wembley hall to see him.
