My husband taught me a very good lesson, he taught me that sometimes "good enough" is "perfect". The peppers may not be organic but they still have nutrition and they still taste good. We need to give ourselves a little grace from time to time. Your family will be just as grateful for the 30-minute meal as they are for the 3-hour meal.
Glyphosate is in our food supply, is totally a Cancer causing chemical and even though Monsanto has lost a law suit and has been proven to cause cancer it’s still in our food. Other countries have banned the chemical and few municipalities in America have banned the use of it. However in the good old USA Monsanto has a wonderful relationship with the government and together they decide it must be ok to poison people. Big money maker. Organic farmers need to stay the hell away from other farms they can get contaminated too.
@@judithryle2113 me too. I have plain but tasty food. I only have curries twice a year now after having my gallbladder removed. I’m on meds for heartburn ❤️🔥 etc can’t have too much sugary foods either. I’m a home cook and baker luckily my friends love to eat.
Whenever I get overwhelmed with all the UA-cam doomsday videos, I can always count on you Shaye. Your videos help me relax, your voice is calming, the background music cheerful, and the content superb. Thank you!
We're on the cusp of serious financial problems here in America. Getting tips and info to soften the blow for our families is not a frivolous activity.
Thank you!!! Finally a homesteading video that captures the spirit of homesteading. Frugal and fast yet fancy. Letting go of perfection and using what you have and items that may not have been made with desired ingredients in order to bless your family with wonderful memories. This is enough. This is self-care. I have found a kindred spirit in your style of homesteading. Blessings!
Just a few suggestions: when you harvest garlic, just smash the bulb open, throw the cloves into a jar with lid & shake really hard (kids love to do this) the skins loosen, & separate the chaff. throw a good amount of of cloves in food processor with olive oil or your choice of oil, salt maybe herbs & blend, put in jar. when you need garlic just spoon it in the pan/pot. It's already to use. But ~ I ALWAYS keep granulated garlic & onion in the home kitchen - you never know, very useful in a pinch!! to keep knives sharp especially those with serrated, 'hard to sharpen' edges- just scrape up the cut things from the cutting board with the non-cutting side to bring it to wherever, to preserve that lovely sharpness we all love. Hard LIMES let their juices flow if you put in microwave oven for half a minute if you would stoop to have a MWO>
To quote my Gran, don't let good be stopped by perfect. Good is good enough. You can oil pack roasted red peppers when in season and crack a jar of summer when time is short. Early foraged spring greens are good in a frittata.
I live in the suburbs and cook 3 meals a day and I think people get caught up in alot of non sense when it comes to cooking. I love your channel it inspires me to be more natural
This video is one of the most beautiful videos and encouraging videos I've seen in a long time. I almost cried. It's just so simple and charming and POSSIBLE! THANK YOU SHAYE (AND STU)
“Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.” This is my motto for this season of life with 3 under 4. Although I can’t wait for those fresh garden pickings!!
Love this. It's the philosophy we've adopted in our household over the past few years. Homecooked, no matter how simple and quick, is always superior (and cheaper) than the processed ready-made stuff or paying a fortune at a restaurant for subpar food and equally bad service. Two nights ago, I started dinner late, didn't have anything thawed, and didn't much feel like putting in the effort. So we had breakfast for dinner: sausage, cheesy scrambled eggs and cinnamon waffles. My family LOVED it.
Your comment on non perfection and compromise was very interesting. Personally I think anything homemade, whether fancy as or quick and easy is always better than eating out or buying a pre-prepared meal anyday!!!
I made these and thought they were great! Can you do another video like this? This is just the right level of time I'm willing to put in for a good meal. Simple, healthy, delicious, fast.
You’re talking right to me! In this season of my life I have 3 under 5 with the youngest a 5 month old. I know you’ve been there! As much as I love to spend a long time cooking in the kitchen making everything fancy, I have to make things easy. It’s taken me a while to admit because it has been frustrating to not be at my full capacity. I’m exhausted from still waking up at night, but don’t want to cut out healthy food for my family. These are great ideas. Thank you for sharing!
Hello, I enjoy watching the work that you do around your farm; I am a renter and not a very good one and I can't afford to subscribe. I simply watch when I can and learn a bit as I view along. Thank you for sharing.
a little delicious tip for the salad - add a little dribble of either maple syrup or runny honey over the lemon juice and toss the salad. it makes it extra special!
As a cooking community member who was on that call, I couldn’t love this more, Shaye. This was so helpful! Thank you! ♥️ Also, if you’re on the fence of joining the cooking community….JOIN THE COOKING COMMUNITY. It’s fantastic!!!
I've wanted to join, but I'm scared Shaye goes a little on (what some might call) "the deep end" with unique ingredients. My husband is a very meat and potatoes kinda guy so I have to try not to veer off the beaten path with large amounts of unique ingredients. One or two per recipe is probably fine (especially if I can hide them).
When I discovered you, I binged watched all your videos, so now I can’t wait for the next video! Thank you for sharing such great ideas, you are adored by so many, be blessed!
Lovely! Great tip on the salad to go with the frittata. I serve a lot of quiche in my household, and we like to have leftovers for dinner - I'll throw a salad on the side next time!
Thank you so much for this video! I find cooking for one can be a challenge but I see how I can apply your principals. Also, having great music playing is a great practice. Thanks! 👍💐
Thanks so much for your inspiring content! I greatly appreciate your ability to balance beautiful seasonal cooking with meeting the needs of a family, including catering to younger people's palettes and being economical and responsible with quality ingredients, without sacrificing the joys of eating and preparing food. I also love gardening and cooking and often find it difficult to reconcile the desire to make "perfect food" with the realities of feeding picky littles day to day. Your joie de vivre is contagious, and I look forward to trying out your cabbage slaw!
Made-in products look wonderful! Wish I had some but can't afford them, even with a discount! I'm jealous but happy for you guys. You definitely deserve such nice things in the kitchen. Thanks for all the helpful and wonderful content.
This video of one my favorites of yours. Thank you for this simple but sincere encouragement to all of us. It not about perfection but consistently showing up for our families, even on busy days.
Venison Stir Fry or a breakfast for dinner situation are usually our 'fast food' dinners here. And occasionally pizza with a store bought crust. We love totally homemade pizza but keeping a few ready to go crusts on hand is useful for a quick lunch or dinner. 😉
This was one of my favorite videos from you! Practical and relatable. Would love to see the other 2 possibilities for the cabbage salsa. You mentioned that sometimes you just mix it up with salsa and then you also described ways to make it more flavorful when time allows. Can we see those ideas too please?
This video is brilliant in every way. You said fast food, and you actually meant it! (I've seen way too many "quick dinner ideas" that are totally unattainable). I actually learned a lot from this! Bless you!
I love this and these are my go to meals with kids too! And the feather on the finger….I’m glad I’m not the only one who just cracks those fresh eggs right into the skillet fresh from the coop!
I usually have canned beans on hand for bean and cheese tostadas or tacos. Some shredded cabbage and sour cream or Greek yogurt and homemade salsa for a super fast supper that doesn't heat up the kitchen. 2nd is some sort of omelet with leftover veggies. I usually have swiss chard in the garden year round. I can put it in an omelet or quiche, or mixed in with spaghetti noodles with bacon, onion, and some cream and parmesan.
These are three of my favorite "fast food" meals at home too! We have two teenage boys, so getting a lot of calories on the table every day is really important and can seem exhausting if I overthink it. They eat every meal as if they'd been fasting for a week, so fine dining isn't really on the menu for now LOL. I reserve my creativity for "date night" meals and special occasions.
I bought your book Welcome to the Farm yesterday. I am working towards a farm where I can use my Ayurvedic wisdom. Day-by-day I am working towards my life I want. I am raising 5 kids on my own and this farm life is what I really want. I think it also will benefit my 2 kids with autism. We will see. They need a life long support and doing it in an environment that is close to nature is fantastic in my eyes! I wish you an amazing life and that you may make lots more videos for your watchers to benefit from.❤
I got an “Oh, isn’t that clever” moment when you squeezed (squoze, lol) the lemon through a sieve to catch the seeds. Makes perfect sense, but I’d never come up with it myself. Thanks!
Have never left comment before…just not what normally do…but I love your channel and the beauty of it all. Love creating beautiful spaces to work and live. With that said, want to live in your kitchen! Right up my alley! To the point, what knives do you use? They look wonderful and of course need skills to make them look wonderful
So earlier today we were unloading brick and I got my finger smashed between two bricks, horrible experience but after some home remedies I decided to put on this video and get my mind off the pain. Boy did it help. Truly enjoy cooking and watching your videos for inspiration. Happy weekend!
This was probably my favorite video of yours ever. You conveyed the message of imperfection being enough sometimes in a way that I hadn’t allowed myself to hear it before. I often have a hard time convincing myself to cook because For whatever reason I can’t produce a perfect meal. I end up spending a lot on take out because I put so much pressure on myself.
I really appreciate this video! I’m an older mom (42) and pregnant with baby #5. The second trimester break from fatigue has not materialized for me. It’s been hard for me to accept the fact that, at least for a few more months, I’m not going to be able to do what I’m used to doing. Easy, healthy meals are perfect for us right now. Thanks so much!
Just ordered. the Dutch Oven in blue! I have an oval LC pan but was really wanting to add a round one. Great timing, great price compared to LC and Great video!

Early foraged spring greens are good in a frittata.
Shaye has a video on packing red peppers in oil.
Love this! I don’t care much for cooking but you make it simpler and enjoyable.
I so appreciate your “be real” advice. Being a good steward of what we have is so wise.
I live in the suburbs and cook 3 meals a day and I think people get caught up in alot of non sense when it comes to cooking. I love your channel it inspires me to be more natural
This is so real! Thanks folks. Love it! 😊 😋
The perfect word, Shaye, elevated. That’s what you do to your world, you elevate it. Thanks!

My lemon tree is 2 feet tall that I have grown from lemons bought from the store.
Hmmmm good idea 👍
I save all my egg 🥚 shells, grind them up and sprinkle them in my garden
@@PegsGarden that’s where I got my lemons. I have had success with grapefruit seeds, too. I tried to sprout a date seed, but no luck yet.

Really enjoyed this video, it was one of your best videos. I like how it wasn't perfect and you weren't serious all the time.
I enjoyed your video very much.
Overhead camera shot helpful to watch you easily chop the cabbage. Also, like the vinegar in the sauce if wine isn't available idea. Thank you
So grateful for your authenticity. And LOVE the idea of the slaw mix for tacos. All in one bowl is genius.
I love this so much. Thank you for these awesome tips and ideas!
Glad you found it helpful.
