Guitar guy is so, so level-headed. He's keepin it real and knows what he has.

Just FYI: Jimi’s Strat went for over 2 million in a Sotheby’s auction in 2019. Dude did the right thing. And Rick could have made 1.25 million.
WOW! Good for that guy!
The strat that sold for 2 million wasn't the one in this video, it was the one Hendrix played at Woodstock. The head stock was reversed on that one and it's not on the Pawn Stars guitar.
Another from his earlier career sold for 2.2 million but I believe, from what I've read, that the strat in this episode is actually owned by Jesse Amoroso, the expert Rick calls in. Whether he bought it before or after it appeared on the show is unknown...
@@rickhambleton6441 he bought it after because Rick passed and gave him blessing for Amorosso to buy it. At least that is what I heard from a guy deep in the guitar world.

I really respect that if a customer misunderstands and super lowballs a price, Rick doesn't just take it but ensures that the customer gets a fair deal
If he didn’t his show would be ruined lol he makes more money off the show then if he low balled people
Agreed.
When the cameras are there .
Ya seriously Rick could've gotten so many amazing deals but he ensures they know what they have before they sell. And Rick himself pays the experts to tell him to give them more money!! So Rick loses all around by being honest, except for in reputation, it makes us all look at him as an honorable man.
They could just be fakes, so he has to check
Everyone gives Rick grief but everytime a seller doesn't know how valuable their item is and low balls it he tells them it's actually worth more and I think that's honorable
Because he needs the expert to authenticate it and the expert will say what it's worth (at least in terms of the show)
@@chrischin_94 I'm talking about when he knows off the top of his shiny head that it's far more valuable than what the seller is asking
@@chrischin_94 There's been times where he tells them it's worth more than they are asking even before the expert shows up. With the viking gold bracelet, for example, he told the guy just the weight of the item in gold, even without the historical significance, was worth more than what the guy was asking. Then after the expert showed up it was worth *way* more than the guy was asking, lol.
Uhmm, he's a tv character.

The guy selling the Jimmy Hendrix guitar... if he wants top dollar, he should sell it at auction, not at the Pawn Shop.
It's good exposure.
yeah i think it's funny that people got to a pawn shop, and expect to be paid item value, if they had a brain cell they would be dangerous.
Top dollar auctions charge 40-60% of the auction price.
You never know if someone is going to buy it for what you want at a auction you can take a major loss.
He did, for $2 million dollars
If Rick bought that shoe collection…he’d be have MULTI millions now

"Its going to be hard to sell"
To be fair to Rick it can’t be an easy job to price everything that comes into the store. Sometimes he must get burned and sometimes he must do well but overall I think he’s a good guy
Every pawn shop (and they talk about it on the show) looks up what stuff is going for online.
There's a line stretching down the street. Agents walk the line and see what people have for sale and select the interesting ones for the show. They then do their research to prepare before they film. None of this is done "cold."
Agreed. He’s a good guy.
I remember that episode where rick went to an auction and he lost a lot of money... everybody thinks that just because one item was sold for X quantity another one will go for ever more money.. the experts even say "in a good day you could" he has to count with the base price, ot the max he could get.
@@blindjustice8718 Online doesn’t mean anything though. You can go on eBay and find stuff for high prices that are sitting there for years because no one wants to pay that much.

i never understood that man i don’t know why they go off of little stuff like that
@#LizardFace could you explain? i’m a bit confused
Well they did clarify where the original was tho
Yea, I know even with my own handwriting sometimes little anomalies happen and you half-screw up and write something differently than usual. They should try to account for small anomalies/imperfections/variances that would happen normally and look at the overall piece on average, not obsess over one "the" like that's proof it's fake. People put down Rick for low balling the sellers but they don't realize that someone looking to re-sell an item is not the same as someone who wants to buy it. If you want top dollar, sell it yourself. If you want the money fast, you have to sell short.
Exactly and plus its a pawn shop lmao... If ur looking for top dollar sell it at auction or online. Idk y people think hes low balling people.
I worked in an antiques shop, a woman came in with a chest of drawers, retail £245, so I offered £120 explained that it needs to be repolished ect. She thought I should offer her £240, making a £5 was enough. Worse still she meant it.
I think the guy selling the Flagg and Defiant did pretty good.
Exactly
Also the seller gets instant money... Rick has to sit on the item for a long time before he can resell it.. pay commision, auction fees etc
For some reason, it's so funny when Chumlee is the expert hahaha
I love how Rick doesnt cheat people out for money. Like when the guy wanted 3500 instead of accepting that he admitted that it would probably be worth 100,000 if it was real
Rick has to ensure it's genuine so he has to get the "guy who knows bout these things" to evaluate it. By giving him a heads up he shows the dude he has some knowledge and also shows he can be trusted. Turns out it wasn't genuine and Rick can make a deal anyway..
He has alot of times where he tries to especially that shoe room.. it was definitely worth 800 thou no where near that flimsy 500thou... especially if he held on to thise shoes for a while longer? The whole warehouse value rn is probably like 3 or 4 mill rn

He's being smart. If he can get a good price from a pawn shop then he can skip the fees that he'd have to pay at auction. And like Rick says, it would take a year. They put it on display, show it in their gallery, auction it, then take 40-60% of the auction price.
