Theory. I feel that The murderer from the Poughkeepsie tapes is basically evil itself. Think about it. He's horrible, ruthless, does not care for sympathy, and the bodies keep stacking. The police can never find him because he's evil himself. Even though justice will never completely end murder, we can try our best to prevent it. And sometimes inevitable moments like him torturing someone and making her have Stockholm syndrome symbolizes the helplessness we feel for people, or when it is too late. There will always be another killer. And evil is always a step ahead of us from solving the entire case.

This movie has stayed on my mind since I watched in in October of 2020. I really like that they didn't shy away from anything, in the sense that he would even kill men and kids. Showing a killer has no morals or pattern makes them truly terrifying. Also, the scene of him beating Cheryl in her home, where it is just the shadows was pretty rough. It really looked like he was hitting her. Cheryl was constantly told what to say by the killer, to the point that she didn't know how to think for herself. She kept saying "I don't know what you want me to say" because he spent so long brain washing her. I reeally loved this film.

Ed is the kind of serial who exist in our world who goes around in our society hurting raping and killing people the most chilling scene is when he killed Jennifer Gorman the 8 year old girl who he raped and killed was so disturbing you can't help but to cry for the little girl. One of the best docs from last year, AQUARELA, has a harrowing scene where someone is trapped under ice and dies onscreen. FACES OF DEATH notoriously feature some real death scenes among all the staged one. Not to mention the countless docs set in warzones and other events of civil unrest.

I highly recommend looking into Mk-Ultra & Ritualistic Abuse Survivors. They are denied help by police & any government services to stop the abuse. Police are involved in these cults & they only really punish those pedovores, etc. that are not in the cult. This is part of why police get away with so much, they are protected by more than the government but also the Dark Occultists. There is 2 people "Phoenix & Aria" who share their accounts over audio on UA-cam who were ritualisticly abused for years until they managed to distance themselves from their abusers. They sought help via the UK police & were humiliated & denied valid help. The UK, Canada, US, & the entire UN are all involved in these acts at the higher levels. The rituals they partake in are ancient and trace back to the worship of Moluch, whom people would sacrifice children & babies to, yet they still worship this diety who is synonymous with Satan, Baal, Pan, Lucifer, Baphomet. This is very real & very planned. They do this rituals in designated spots that send putrid evil energy of pure suffering on the Lay Line energy grid that covers the earth to produce a maximum effect of inducing energetic suffering onto the masses in focal cities. Regarding the real life inspiration, I think that the creators of this movie were definitely aware of Maury Travis. He was a serial killer who kidnapped women, tortured and killed them in his basement (while recording) and in the end got cought in the exact same way, that the house of the killer in the movie was found (he sent a map which was traced back to his computer). Also, Cheryl keeps saying "You are the master. It pleases me to serve you.", which is something that one of Maury Travis' victims says on his tapes.

Oh yeah for sure. Dudes tapes are basically like word for word the same as this movie. The slave master roleplay. Only difference was this killer dramatically killed more people to make it more scary for us. Real guy killed like 13 prostitutes. Of course for dramatic effect, they make this killer kill way people.
The real guy you mentioned also would say stuff like “what type of mother are you? Your prostituting while your baby is with your mother. Apologize to your baby. For being a whore.” Then he made her say it. “I’m sorry for being a whore.” If you look up that guys tapes on UA-cam, the audio is on UA-cam.

But yeah it’s all same motive. Having a slave and psychological torture and making person submit to you. Real disturbing shit.
It’s real insane to think someone really went though this. Like to us, it’s just a transcript or audio recording or a movie. These people really were bound and put through psychological, sexual and physical torture. And someone got off on doing that. Real scary

Got to February, started looking for listings of it to show up in theatres, and got confused when it got to March and I hadn't heard anything about it. As the months went by, I started wondering if it had just missed coming to the Midwest, or if I'd imagined the whole thing. Finally, I forgot all about it until I saw an article about it online somewhere and was like, "Ah, it never got a theatrical release! I'm not crazy after all!"
Managed to see it in 2014 after its video-on-demand release, and was not disappointed. It was spectacularly creepy, and everyone not in the interview portions gives sterling performances all around. The fact it ends on such a bleak and depressing note made it that much better, in my opinion. I got a copy as soon as Scream Factory released it.

Sometimes she would also show my videos that she would see in class. One day while making dinner, she showed me The Poughkeepsie Tapes, mainly as a joke, but she never told me it wasn’t a real documentary. I watched the whole things thinking it was an actually murderer documentary... even though now I know it’s fake, it still traumatized me. I think the parts I specifically remember are the little girl being killed and the whole torture process. Looking back on it now, it’s probably hilarious that I actually believed my sister that this was a real documentary, and ever since watching this when I was younger I haven’t found any horror films that truly scare me. I guess watching this as my ‘unknowingly’ first ever horror had kinda, set the bar for me.
