Sorry another detail. Peter was one of the main Apostles that spread the word of god. But now this peter will do the same. But for paimon...ari aster is a sicko and I love him for it. LOL
Absolutely not. Fight or flight? I’m a fight guy. The numerous occasions of break ins by low iq brown people I’ve dealt with has proven that to me. I’d rather die on my feet
Another detail that a lot of people miss. Is when Annie is having that dream and is walking to peter room. Her shadow on the floor is missing its head. Another foreshadow. Bravo Hereditary one of my favorite movies of all time.
I don't know if someone else already commented this but, another interesting thing is that clicking noise both Charlie and Peter make, that is a noise people make when trying to call a camel And what is Paimon always depicted riding, a camel I heard this in a Foundflix video about this movie (I think)
I found it a bit weird that people mentioned how the actress amazingly portrayed the grief of losing her daughter... I didn't think it was special at all, until it hit me. Western people like from Europe and the Americas usually tend to treat loses as graciously and conservatively as possible in terms of manners and reaction, etc... While i, as an arab, have already seen this type of reactions quite some times in my life, and i think this is just a cultural difference that made certain people feel the eeriness of the movie more than others, since as i said before, if you are from an arab country, most likely you will see the actress's grief in real life (and it is disturbing hearing a father screaming through an entire appartement block in grief for losing his young daughter to cancer or hearing 4 old women crying and screaming due to the loss of their sister to a heart attack... it really unsettled the mood in our house when it happend).
Also, as the narrator pointed out the hats on the wall, relating them to the three decapitated heads that Paimon carries, you’ll notice that after Charlie loses her head and her funeral is over, there are only TWO remaining hats on the wall, and the one that was orange (like Charlie’s sweatshirt) is no longer there, her head having been “collected” by Paimon. The other two heads will be that of the grandmother, once her corpse has been dug up and mutilated, and Annie, who severs her own head later while possessed.
@@deeayeveeeyedee3793 You are correct. And you'll notice that the colors of the other two caps correspond to the colors that Annie and the grandmother were wearing at the time they lost their heads, white and blue. Along with orange, those colors are displayed prominently throughout the movie when referencing each of those women.
Really nice video! Little addition: Annie doesn't use chicken wire to decapitate herself. It's a piano string. When Peter comes down we can hear the piano getting trashed and he walks past the broken piano in another shot.
I was in the theatre and when I noticed it, I involuntarily muttered "oh my God" aloud to myself quietly lol. Was the most intense movie theatre experience ever. This is the best horror in the last twenty years and instantly became a top 5 horror for me.
My favorite scary movie by far. Listen, it’s so creepy of a movie that a fan with a username referencing it with a bunch of knowledge on the film is scary.
@@DonJuanDecepticon I wish you would respond to everyone asking what the best is. Cause exorcism of Emily rose was pretty up there for me until this. It’s something about demonic possessions that gets me admittedly.
that scene where in the background, you can see annie sort of floating out of peters room always made me feel SO uncomfortable and scared and i still don't know why. i think its just seeing her body move in such an unnatural way, so quickly but still completely silent. such a freaky movie
Peter's "friends" put that Dittany of Grete in the bowls he was smoking. That's why he was having such a coughing fit, and such a negative reaction to it. They were trying to make it easier for him to astral project, and get Paimon in his body.
Yes. His "friends" were all in the cult of Paimon. So, they were instructed to mix the Dittany of Grete in with the w**d that Peter was smoking. Just like that woman put the Dittany of Crete in the mom's tea; and, the grandma put the Dittany of Crete in the baby's milk. They were all trying to make it so it was easier for Paimon to take over their bodies. @@ItzBrittKneeBish
@@BrockLee3 The whole thing with the hidden elements, words, etchings, subliminal invocations hidden in the surroundings that were used by the devil worshipers to cause a victim to become a vessel and/or go mad like the brother that committed suicide. I know what it's like to be a victim of gaslighing. Certain family members have gone out of their way to embezzle money my mum invested on my behalf. I was a successful Hollywood guy in the 90s mostly...playing teen dramas and sitcoms and film...also, the explosion of male designers made me a lot of money while I was still a kid in highschool becoming the Drakkar model. I photographed well and my profile made a lot of money and photos are used to this day. I recently lost my Mum and 2 of my siblings were hard at work being stupid enough to send me eviction notices from the house I bought my mother...during covid, in a leg cast and a catheter needing surgery while the world was dying and shut down. There was a line in American Horror Story, Coven..."they pray to one god, a green mericiless god. money." That's my family...these pay-man worshiping killers.
One thing. Paimon is supposed to tell you the truth bout the universe, and all its secrets. That’s why, when Peter wakes up and sees his mom there she tells him she never wanted him, that was paimon. She couldn’t help herself but tell the entire truth to her pregnancy.
@@ThwipThwipBoom The truth did help paimon to get Peter to his low point showing his mother didn't loved him . I mean if truth helps paimon he would tell truth.
I don't think there's ever been a horror film ive seem that got as intense as hereditary's ending. The slow pace of the movie up until then made it even more disorienting and disturbing. Truly a masterpiece of the genre.
The slow burn into that ending was super disorienting, as usually things just get a bit better, but it keeps getting exponentially worse until it explodes (in a good way)
I think the model house scenes also show how Annie is detached from her home life. She can't understand it from within and maybe feels powerless to control anything, so she creates these models where things make sense and she can give an order to the chaos. Of course, it's just an artifact that doesn't really address and can't solve the problem.
@@jakewhite4192 NOTHING in this film is accidental or coincidental. It's all very carefully orchestrated. Annie is not "just an artist." She became an artist as a way to express the confusion, frustration, loneliness, and agitation she felt about the strange happenings in her life since her childhood. Annie thinks that the entire family, including herself, are mentally ill, and the audience thinks that's what "Hereditary" refers to. But none of them are actually mentally ill. "Hereditary" refers to the curse of her family line that her mother perpetrated upon them by becoming spiritually married to the demon Paimon. The mother has been trying to bring Paimon into an earthly plane since Annie was a child. First she tried to use her earthly husband (Annie's father) as a vessel, but he got wise to her scheme and locked himself away, finally starving himself to death to escape her evil clutches. Annie read this behavior as mental illness, but it was not his imagination, it was actually happening. Then Annie tells her therapy group that her brother had paranoid delusions that their mother was trying to "put people inside him" and it drove him to suicide. But he wasn't paranoid, that was actually happening. Charlie wasn't mentally ill or autistic, she was possessed by Paimon from the time of her birth, so every strange behavior that she has is actually Paimon. Annie says she feels blamed for everything that goes wrong in their family. That's because her mother resented her for not being a boy (and therefore not a potential vessel for Paimon), and then harassed her into having kids (as potential vessels for Paimon). Her mother guilted her for not "letting her get her hooks into Peter," and then basically forced Annie to allow her to name Charlie (a male name) and take over her care so she could bottle feed Charlie the conjuring herbs that allowed Paimon to possess her. The reason Grandma wanted to breastfeed the baby herself is because she had turned the baby into Paimon, her demon husband, and the breastfeeding was a way for her to be intimate with him. Annie saw all this from an outsider's perspective as being twisted and perverse. Then Annie's mother became terminally ill, and she subconsciously blamed Annie for taking too long to get pregnant, so she ended up elderly and dying before she could finish the ritual of bringing Paimon back to an earthly form. The catch to all of this is that Annie never understood the plot, so she has no idea why any of this is happening. That's why she reads it as mental illness and feels that she's being blamed. All of these feelings are played out in her art via these dioramas. Hope that helps you to understand!
He wasn't possessed by Charlie, Charlie was possessed by Paimon and that's why she clicked. It's Paimon's tick. Charlie's grandmother had Charlie possessed as a young child, because she was vulnerable (because of her age) and by that time Peter was too emotionally developed to be easily possessed. But Paimon needed a male host, because he's not able to fully possess a female host (as we can see because sometimes Charlie's own, albeit very underdeveloped, personality shone through) so Peter had to be emotionally broken down to the point where he was vulnerable for possession. He had to lose his entire family, in a short period of time. The whole cult that their grandmother was in, was there to bring a vessel for Paimon, because Paimon was giving them wealth and prosperity in exchange for a host. Love your videos by the way!! I find it amazing that you're always able to somehow condense the entire premise of a two hour long movie into less than a half hour without really leaving any major details out. it's a talent for sure!! I've seen all of your videos and anxiously await new uploads
It’s not chicken wire Anne uses at the end, it’s piano wire because you can hear her smash it just before. Another amazing subtle detail of this movie!
I've never seen anyone mention this before, and I only noticed it tonight on my 4th rewatch... When the accident happens, it's caused by a deer carcass laying in the road, and Peter serves to miss it, which is how Charlie hits her head on the pole at the side of the road. After Peter has stopped the car in the middle of the road, he can't bring himself to look into the backseat, but his gaze goes from the review mirror to the road... Out in the distance, you can barely see naked people running, illuminated by the headlights. So they obviously planted the deer carcass in the road. There are other times when you can see their naked bodies scattered all over the woods outside the house. You can sometimes see them outside a window. They are performing little creepy tasks throughout the entire movie!
Wow, so many details that I've missed before.. especially those with Bridget! Well done, Paul! Excellent analysis of one of my all-time favorite horror movies. Keep up the good work!
Most traumatizing horror I’ve ever seen. Love all the subtext one can draw from it. In addition to all you’ve mentioned, I add divorce. A family being slowly ripped apart one person at a time by forces beyond one’s control. All the demons of the families past come down on the last remaining son and the resignation and hopelessness laid bare on Alex Wolff’s face at the end makes me feel sick to my stomach. The idea that hope (of family) can indeed die, nothing is certain and you may be left with nothing upon reaching adulthood… nothing left of yourself but an empty vessel, devoid of what used to be or could have been. Heartachingly devastating. You are KILLING it as usual mate. Super good job on this one. Meant a lot. 👍🏻
For me, the most disturbing part is when peter locks himself in the attic and possessed annie starts banging on the door, but when the shot cuts to her, shes banging it with her head at an unnatural speed. that was so fucked up!!
Feeling really unnerved after seeing you break down all the creepy details I never would have caught. I love it. We're here for more classic movie break downs!
I actually heard that Charlie would sleep in the treehouse when it was freezing trying to kill herself either because she subconsciously knew what was happening or it was paiman trying to get out of her body. Since Paiman planned the Light pole beheading though this theory would say it's Charlie. Just a bit of a theory though
I been scrolling for a minute or 2 deciding whether to post this same thing. "That's how you catch pneumonia Charlie. That's okay." We definitely right lol
@@Steak0Ums yeah that "That's okay" could either be Paimon saying it's okay because something like Pneumonia cannot kill him, or it's Charlie wishing to get something like Pneumonia that would hopefully kill her. And same thing with the nuts with the brownies. Was that Charlie trying to kill herself, or Paimon going along with the plan? We know the pole has the sigil on it, but is that a predetermined thing, or was Paimon like "okay, so in a week we're gonna go to a party that is going to have brownies with nuts in it, so put my sigil on this light pole." The girl who made the brownies could also be a part of the cult as well. This is why Hereditary is one of the best movies in the past decade or so. There's so much to discuss and more to find out
Which reminds me of her putting her head out to get air.... It's ok if she opened the window but if u ever tried putting ur head Outta the car when it's rushing , u get suffocated
@@neonicon8500The beheading was definitely planned. I've never seen anyone mention this before, and I only noticed it tonight on my 4th rewatch... Dude you’ve been killing it lately! All these older movie reviews have been fantastic! And Hereditary is a personal favorite of mine so this is awesome. ❤
What I loved about Hereditary was that it wasn’t your typical horror movie w/the obvious cat & mouse scenario of the victim trying to escape & survive from what ever bad is after them. It stands out mainly because the director doesn’t spoon feed us what’s going on but instead puts us into the shoes of the actor in a POV kind of way to where we experience the same horror when the characters do. Instead of knowing before hand what the characters don’t know, we get to feel as if we’re in the movie by discovering clues & go into this journey just as blind with them. it’s like your on the same journey with the protagonist not knowing exactly what is after them or what’s going to happen until it’s finally revealed which was such an effective way Ari Aster decided to present this film. That’s what made Hereditary more frightening in the way the story was told to us. Ari really does try to avoid using the same horror tropes Hollywood follows with the unnecessary repetitive jump scares that serve no purpose that a sudden shock. The Jump scares in Hereditary were effective because they were used at the correct moments and also served other purposes beyond just a cheap quick shock. I personally was terrified with how they amplified normal sounds or background noise to where it creates an uncomfortable unnerving reaction as your watching the scene play out like when Anne bangs her head repeatedly at the attic door chasing peter omg I could go on
Dude. This is the BEST deep dive video I think I’ve ever seen. I absolutely loved this movie - even though it gave me nightmares and as a 33 year old I had to sleep at my parents house after we watched it - but I didn’t catch on to HALF the things you pointed out in this video! And I’ve seen the movie SEVERAL times!! Incredible. Chef’s kiss. Sharing immediately.
A well-done update on your original breakdown of Hereditary. Also, congratulations on all the upgrades you've made over the years to bring even better quality to the videos on the channel. Cheers. :)
I really don’t think anything in this movie is random or coincidental… so everything you said on Bridget, the number 202, the baseball caps, the cult, etc. makes a lot of sense! Great video and fascinating (terrifying) film!!!
Excellent breakdown. There is so much going on in this movie that it's hard to catch everything. I love this movie, but after watching it once, it took a little over a full year for me to watch it again. After watching this and Midsommer back to back, I'm convinced that Aster is a genius. I can't wait to see Beau is Afraid.
It really depends on each person's sensitivity. For example, in my case Annabel creation didn't scare me at all, while Hereditary was the scariest movie I've ever seen.@@dtoby8418
Great video but i think at 23:16 the hold id for the camera, as there's a red light that appears meaning that the cult is watching over them and they know that annie came there
I have scrolled and scrolled for this comment because I just noticed that too... It made me feel that Joan's being manipulated by the cult... 2 dead kids... Maybe she has escaped this same fate 🤷
I’m too sensitive to horror so I usually don’t watch horror movies unless I hear from others that “it’s not that scary”. Due to the reputation of this one being terrifying, breakdowns like these are the closest I’ll ever get to watching it lol. So thank you
Felt it was more suspenseful than scary except towards the end also you really are missing out on how beautiful each frame is shot assuming you have a decent 🖥️ screen just like Midsommer
0:49 The reason for that name isn't necessarily aesthetic, although I'm sure that played a part. In older forms of English they used a character from the futhorc alphabet which was called Wynn, but those characters were phased out in favor of Latin characters. Since Latin didn't natively have a character for the W sound, they began using VV or UU for it, which eventually became the "Double U" or "Double V" in some other regions (namely France).
Can we also acknowledge how comically large the pile of nuts were that the girls were chopping? Like at first I thought they were just high teenagers with no baking experience but now because of the dude’s hair I’m thinking the party was thrown simply to kill Charlie
How this incredible movie was not nominated for Oscars is beyond me. I could see, Best Leadings Acteess (Toni Collette), Best Origjnal Screen Play and Best Cinematography and Best Editing.
I'm a literature and film scholar working on an academic article about Hereditary and having researched a lot of this stuff for months, this video gives a way better sense of what the movie is doing than pretty much any sources I looked at! Wish I had found it earlier lol, really amazing work!
The mothers name is literally 'Anne Graham' aka, anagram! Which coincides with not just the synopsis of the entire movie but also the ending as the credits roll and a single red letter is highlighted within the names of the first dozen or so characters. There are so many hidden eggs in this movie it's difficult to keep track.
This is one of those movies that gets better with all the small details picked up with multiple watches. Thanks for the awesome video. I liked the 3 hats on the wall. Very good catch.
I can't believe how many of these details i missed when i watched the film for the first time TODAY. You're breakdowns are fabulous and help add to the experience of us laypeople. Tremendous work. Thank you!
What an amazing awesome upgrade of a breakdown. Hereditary is in my top 5 favorite horror films and films in general of all time. Thanks for pointing out all the fine details and things we missed Paul 👏❤️
Hereditary is one of those movies that gets better with each watch. So many layers and little details that you miss on first watch. This is one of my favorite horror movies!
Toni Collette not winning best actress made the Academy Awards look like a complete joke. It’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. They should make a public apology and retroactively give her the award.
I saw Annie on the wall on my first watch through and all I could say was “fuck yeah!” I love whenever movies let us see the evil entity while keeping the character oblivious, it adds an extra sense of “oh crap this is so f*cked” and I love it. It was such a good movie and the only problem with it was that I watched it at noght
Two horror movies, in the last decade or so, that have had any lasting impact on me are "It Follows" and "Hereditary". It Follows left me having literal nightmares the night after I watched it and the scene in Hereditary after the girl's head gets knocked off where her body is discovered by the mother while the son just lays in his bed fucked me up big time
Anyone else think that Peter wasn't actually smoking weed under the bleachers, but was given a joint woth the mystical herb to make him vulnerable to becoming a vessel? We've established that his stoner friend is a cult member.
Something probably not intentional, but the grandmother had a DID diagnosis and Toni Colette played a character with DID in the show "United States of Tara". That show is what made me notice how good of an actress she is.
Love your are doing these breakdowns to older movies. As always, your delivery and tone makes the information pleasing to the ear and easy to digest. Keep up the good work
Just starting the vid. I LOVE this movie. Seen it multiple times! It's now February 2024, and am rewatching this. Movies that hit me hard like this don't come around often, and Where Evil Lurks did it for me again recently!
Annie beheads herself with piano wire, not chicken wire. During the third act when Peter wakes up before Annie chases him, you can hear in the distance wires being plucked from the piano.
wow. just wow. hereditary has been my favourite movie of all time since the first time i've seen it, and i've seen it more than a dozen times since. my jaw was on the floor during this entire video. I was, of course, already aware of what a MASTERPIECE this film is, but with all these details pointed out to me, I can further appreciate is as a piece of art as well as a horrifying commentary on grief. i'm just disappointed I didn't notice these myself!! I don't normally comment on videos, but thank you for this, man. amazing content.
This is awesome, I love these deep analyses of horror movies. I kind of interpreted the breastfeeding diorama as a metaphor - like Leigh was always wanting to be Charlie's mother and caretaker and intervening with the true mother-daughter relationship in order to do so. Of course, she had other motives than mothering in mind, but just a thought.
much better breakdown the first wasn't bad by any means this is just better, great job done I loved this flick, it was one of those rare movies that stuck with me days after watching and had me looking up whatever content I could to explore it deeper The movies five years old at this point and I still enjoy watching videos like this one, the story, the casting, the acting, the way it was shot etc were all superb
I've always seen this as a study in psychosis because all of this can happen. It happened to me one day. Lucky only one day. That not being supernatural is far more terrifying. The trauma of his mother's insanity kicked of his delusions, his mind couldn't keep up. I know the feeling.
Found another channel to binge on and off. I love this type of content. There's usually at least, always one thing I've missed. I believe your theory about the girl Peter likes and I never even thought about it 👍👍
Hereditary is one of my all time fav horror movies. I've loved your videos for years now, but I have to say, I'm particularly enjoying these movie breakdowns
I love all of Ari Aster's work, but as someone who has a really complicated family life, Hereditary has always really stood out to me. You mention the mental illness theory briefly, but my personal favorite interpretation is a sort of combination of both the "supernatural" elements and mental illness aspects, where perhaps there really IS a cult, and they're still manipulating things behind the scenes, but it's not actually accomplishing anything. We see that the cult clearly has a strong establishment in the town and there's the large counseling session Annie goes to, so I think that perhaps most of the town is dealing with their own hereditary issues, leading them to come together with belief that they can revive Paimon and create a happier life for themselves. Perhaps through the usage of the weird drug we see in the movie and their own denial, they convince themselves that the spiritual happenings we see are real, the demon and inheritance of it are real to them, and thus it's shown as real to the viewer.
I think you're overthinking it, dude. It's more fun to take it at face value: The mom wound up going off the deep end, but the cult was very real, and they would up accomplishing the mission. I wonder what the end result would've been. Does Paimon actually have any power that he can wield? What are the cult's next moves? It's said that Paimon possessed an immense amount of knowledge, far beyond the current state of humanity, and could generate wealth on command. The cult could've been set to make a run for power, or Paimon could've just killed them all and set himself loose.
@@Hawk7886 That's fair enough for you, but I don't really like supernatural stories as much and prefer to think that the stories about the demon are really just that, stories, and he doesn't really exist and can't really do anything in the first place. It adds an additional layer of tragedy to the movie for me and makes it far more interesting to think that they made all these sacrifices and plans only for them to result in absolutely nothing gained on their end. So much of the narrative of the movie focused on the personal connections and drama that, while he did serve as a good driving force of the conflicts and motivator, Paimon doesn't need to actually be real for anything in the movie to have actually happened, and the humans are far scarier on their own anyways.
@@michibiki6798 I mean, sure, but why watch a supernatural movie featuring demons and possessions and then discount the climax featuring the demon possessing a host? The movie was already pretty damn tragic. It's like watching The Exorcist and saying, "Yeah that's cool but I feel like the girl was just schizophrenic and her mom was probably drugging her. She didn't really float above the bed, the priest was just drunk."
@@Hawk7886 Man if you don't like the theory or interpretation you don't have to believe it LOL. Clearly we have different tastes and that's okay. I find it personally more interesting because whether or not the supernatural elements are real doesn't change most of the story since it's mostly centered on people's conflicts and actions with each other, so I think it's more interesting if they aren't, and the people in the movie are mistaken. Also, the exorcist is a really out there comparison especially since they address that kind of theory in the movie and books and disprove them in the story. The conflict between skepticism and faith plays a role in the conflict of the Exorcist, where it doesn't really in Hereditary.
I’ve seen this freaking movie SO many times! it’s my go to film when nothing else sounds good. And I STILL miss some thing! Ari aster is a master!!! Thank for this deep dive of my favorite movie!
Your original breakdown of this movie is what made me immediately subscribe. You brought up so many cool details I never noticed and that I never saw anyone else point out in any other video. You awakened a deeper love for this movie than I already had with your first breakdown. Excited to see a revisit to this movie
I like what I call "inverse exorcism"; I think it was a touch of humor. When Peter is at school and sees through the window her mother's "friend" telling him "get out". i think she's telling him to let paimon in, to get out of his body to set it free for paimon.
This became my all-time fav scary movie the instant it finished. The heavier and “higher-IQ” (didn’t know what else to call them) scary movies like this, Babadook, Oculus (to me, I know a lot of people hate this one) offer such a rich experience. They are well-directed, well-acted, deeper themes, and most importantly, they double as excellent tragic dramas. The added focus on the characters’ relationships and story we care about is far better at scaring people than monsters, gore, and loud bangs threatening characters we don’t even really like or care about.

That's some good ass trivia
Aaah make sense now

Also, as the narrator pointed out the hats on the wall, relating them to the three decapitated heads that Paimon carries, you’ll notice that after Charlie loses her head and her funeral is over, there are only TWO remaining hats on the wall, and the one that was orange (like Charlie’s sweatshirt) is no longer there, her head having been “collected” by Paimon. The other two heads will be that of the grandmother, once her corpse has been dug up and mutilated, and Annie, who severs her own head later while possessed.
Brilliant
@@deeayeveeeyedee3793 You are correct. And you'll notice that the colors of the other two caps correspond to the colors that Annie and the grandmother were wearing at the time they lost their heads, white and blue. Along with orange, those colors are displayed prominently throughout the movie when referencing each of those women.
Really nice video!
Little addition:
Annie doesn't use chicken wire to decapitate herself. It's a piano string. When Peter comes down we can hear the piano getting trashed and he walks past the broken piano in another shot.
Brooo this movie so full of amazing details. Just a fucking masterpiece of horror.
The mom hiding in the corner made me feel the most uneasy of any horror movie ever.

I was in the theatre and when I noticed it, I involuntarily muttered "oh my God" aloud to myself quietly lol. Was the most intense movie theatre experience ever. This is the best horror in the last twenty years and instantly became a top 5 horror for me.
Hereditary is emotionally tense and raw, and Toni's performance grounds the audience unlike any other in horror.
To bad its one of those movies you can’t discuss without people being unbearable about it. It’s a decent movie, but it’s not the best thing in horror.

Wait really??
Yes. His "friends" were all in the cult of Paimon. So, they were instructed to mix the Dittany of Grete in with the w**d that Peter was smoking. One thing. Paimon is supposed to tell you the truth bout the universe, and all its secrets. That’s why, when Peter wakes up and sees his mom there she tells him she never wanted him, that was paimon. She couldn’t help herself but tell the entire truth to her pregnancy.
Interesting detail
I wouldn't expect truth from a demon king. Maybe it would tell you the truth as it believes it but not the complete unbiased truth of past events.

I don't think there's ever been a horror film ive seem that got as intense as hereditary's ending. The slow pace of the movie up until then made it even more disorienting and disturbing.
Truly a masterpiece of the genre.
The witch
The slow burn into that ending was super disorienting, as usually things just get a bit better, but it keeps getting exponentially worse until it explodes (in a good way)
I think the model house scenes also show how Annie is detached from her home life. She can't understand it from within and maybe feels powerless to control anything, so she creates these models where things make sense and she can give an order to the chaos. Of course, it's just an artifact that doesn't really address and can't solve the problem.
so virgo of her
I always saw the model House scene as a way to show their home and family being played like puppets by Joan and the cult
@@AddclearAndrukahnI agree with you on that one!
or shes just a fucking artist lmao?

It’s not chicken wire Anne uses at the end, it’s piano wire because you can hear her smash it just before. Another amazing subtle detail of this movie!
Isn't it toppled over in the living room when Peter walks up finding his father's burnt body?

the hat’s hanging is a great catch! also representing the 3 beheadings needed from the 3 generation of women.
For me, the most disturbing part is when peter locks himself in the attic and possessed annie starts banging on the door, but when the shot cuts to her, shes banging it with her head at an unnatural speed. that was so fucked up!!
Why she didn't get an Oscar nomination for this is bewildering. An absolutely heartbreaking gutwrenching performance
That's okay."
We definitely right lol
There's so much to discuss and more to find out
That's exactly how she responded to her mom telling her to go to a party with her brother. Maybe bcoz she knew she was gonna die

Thank you so much mate. Really means a lot. So much goes into them from myself and the team. Glad you’re enjoying them.

Aster's future films are something that give me hopes for cinema as a whole.
Fantastic video btw, do midsommar next lol

I'm loving these older movie breakdowns. ❤
18:13 I love the amount of puns in the next 30 seconds
This became my all-time fav scary movie the instant it finished.
The heavier and “higher-IQ” (didn’t know what else to call them) scary movies like this, Babadook, Oculus (to me, I know a lot of people hate this one) offer such a rich experience. They are well-directed, well-acted, deeper themes, and most importantly, they double as excellent tragic dramas.
The added focus on the characters’ relationships and story we care about is far better at scaring people than monsters, gore, and loud bangs threatening characters we don’t even really like or care about.
