I have been drinking more rye this past year. Really developing a taste for it. Sagamore 8 and JD barre proof are my favorites

Agreed, JDSBBP is excellent, why it’s not up there on the bar is baffling. Oh well, I think a lot of people sleep on the barrel proof JD. Fine by me. I can still find it at MSRP! 😉
Same here. I gotta real taste for Ryes now and not sure what I’m gonna do with all these bourbons now! 😅😅
JDSBBP Rye is my favorite whiskey/bourbon right now. It is absolutely delicious

Out by me it amazes me how Sagamore 8 Year sits on the shelf while the masses are racing for whatever they can get in the regular Buffalo Trace drop.

Where does Sagamore 8 sit on the shelf? I haven't seen a bottle in over a year, at which time I bought the last 4 bottles I could find...
Sagamore BiB is now a 6yr. They also have a 100% Maryland rye small batch 4-6 yr. And yes this fall will be 9 yr mgp in lieu of the 8yr
I was at the distillery last week and asked about the 9 year- It will be MGP and should be released in the fall. Absolutely cannot wait to taste the extra year in an already amazing release!
@@johnnilsson5746 I’m in Southern California and I’ve been able to score two bottles of the 8 year rather easily. Hopefully the same will go for the 9 year.
I had a pour of Pikesville last night. It's pretty available in my area, always keep a bottle on my self.
It is a bourbon drinker's rye. It is also my favorite rye with Sagamore Double Oak right behind it.

I LOVED the Sagamor 8 year I bought another bottle and have not opened it. Saving it for a special occasion!! It truly turned me into a Rye fan.
You put the bottles on the table backwards from how you usually do. This was a fun video! Love the Friday blinds.

I’ve been a huge Sagamore fan for about a year. I randomly picked up two bottles, 83 Rye and the Double Oak. Since then I’ve had their Sherry Cask, 8 Year and two store barrel picks. They are all magnificent. I need to pick up their Cask and Rum because I hear they are outstanding.
The Cask strength is one of my favourite whiskies and the Rum is a special one that I enjoy in the winter.
I love the Sagamore 8 yr and the SLB Sagamore 7 yr pick. My top ryes are the 11 yr MGP ryes from River Roots.
Picked up a Knob Creek Bourye yesterday. You fellas need to get one ASAP.
My favorite ryes are Bardstown Origin and Sagamore Double-Oaked
next rye blind: Hard Truth Sweet Mash, New Riff Balboa Rye, Rossville Union, Michters Rye and Ole George{I think you can get it in your area, and am pretty sure Trenton will love it. I can't get it in KY so go through Seelbach's}.
Not shocking ... I have a Sagamore 6 year old store pick I ran across that is just wonderful. I happened to be passing through a town roughly 35 miles away from home and on impulse stopped in a random package store to see what they had. I went back over there the next day to get a back up 😉
Great blind gentlemen. I didn't have the Triumph but subbed the Cornerstone. Otherwise this is my finish first to last. 1st. Old Overholt, 2nd Sagamore 8 year, 3rd. Wild Turkey Cornerstone 4th. Pikesville, Last Knob Creek 10. Thankyou.
I would like to recommend 2 ryes to your attention: Redwood Empire Emerald Giant Cask Strength and Knobel Rye (from Mike Rowe's signature line).
Glad to see Sagamore do well in this. Not surprising.
One product that I love out of Knob Creek is their "Smoked Maple." I'm all about sweet flavor notes, and its a goldmine of sweetness for around $35 for 750 ml.
I have a bottle of Sagamore Sherry finish that I squirrelled away after finishing one off, really a fantastic pour. Have been trying to grab an 8 year for a couple years now. There are several store pics near me that have 7 year.
I like the idea of the rye series! I recently picked up a bottle of Roulette Straight Rye - a very solid every day MGP rye, and an absolute steal at $27.
I've not had had any of the bottles on display, but I have had Sagamore Spirit regular and Cask Strength, regular Old Overholt, and regular Knob Creek. I'll definitely go back to the Sagamore bottles, and probably to the Knob Creek. I do want to try the Overholt 114, which only recently appeared here.

My favorite go to rye pours are anything Sagamore and Jack Daniels SiB BP Rye.
Wow about the Rum Cask as Sagamore has one of the best on the market. It is so much better than the Old Elk Rum Cask and $30-$40 cheaper
Sagamore 6 yr bib and their 93 proof small batch are now all their own distillate. Their barrel selects are distilled in id and md
They also released a 5 yr single barrel at the distillery back in May that is their own. It is a great bottle and I was lucky to get one.
@@mikehintenach2503 I'm kicking myself for sleeping on their distillery only releases cause I live close by but I did make it up a couple weeks ago and picked up the albarino cask finish distillery only release and it's amazing
I haven't had all of them, but I agree with KC 10 Rye in last place and Sagamore 8 at #1. Love everything that Sagamore does - that's the whiskey brand I have the most of, and I love all of them...even the Rum Finish! I didn't like it when I first bought it (it made me sad, lol), but I tried it a few months later and I liked it much more. So try it again!
Great blind guys. All good ones. I am a huge Rye fan but not so much a Sagamore fan. I have a Double oak and a barrel pick that I need to revisit I see. Cheers!
Sagamore Cask Strength is a tasty Rye as well. Like you guys, kind of surprised about Pikesville coming in 4th. Very tasty rye (but not as good as Sagamore Cask Strength). Haven't tried the 8 year yet, but will as soon as a come across a bottle.
Still Austin Cask Strength Rye....sooooo good.
That is a great bottle. If you can find a store pick, they are even better.
I'm just now trying to build out a whiskey collection. I started with a gift pack of Whistlepig that was fantastic but I polished them off before I got more. So now I have a bottle of Makers 46 and just got a bottle of Oban Little Bay Scotch which is amazing.
I think another rye is my next purchase
The old overholt bottle reminds me of the old granddad, 114 bottle.🤔 different color labels, different colored cork. But the shape reminds me exactly of the old granddad.
Recently found and had the Old Overholt 114....quite delicious for $35

I have been getting into ryes more and more lately. I found a bottle of Sagamore Double Oak rye and it is fantastic.

Great lineup! You picked up the toffee and orange citrus in the WT both times. It sounds great but not for 300.00. When I saw your lineup I picked the Sagamore:) all the Sagamore’s are great pours! Cheers
Pikesville is around 95 dollars here when we get it not cheap at all, but it's rare to get it has been 2 years since last time. But when it's available I buy a few bottles it's so good.

Love Sagamore ryes, but also love Milam and Greene, Woodford, and Widow Jane Paradigm Rye.
Pikesville Rye also originated from Maryland, pre-prohibition. Sagamore is carrying on the MD rye tradition
When I visited Heaven Hill, which makes Pikesville, they admitted it has nothing to do with what had been made in Maryland other than the name. They changed the mash bill and it’s no longer made in Maryland.

Just think how good Sag 10 and/or 12 or higher will be. Wouldn't mind a blind with all of the various finished Sagamore expressions.
I learned of Pikesville from a video of yours a few years ago, I tried it, and I've been a big fan ever since. Sometimes it seems not to be available in my area but I pick it up whenever I get a chance.
Just picked up a bottle today and it’s incredible. So glad I grabbed it
Sagamore Bottled In Bond is actually up to 6 years age stated. It’s gone up the last two years from their initial 4 year age stated release. And 9 year is coming at some point. I assume they’re doing the same thing and working up to 10 year.
Pikesville Rye is originally from Pikesville, MD. About 25 minutes from the Sagamore Distillery.
Did a similar blind and Sagamore 8 beat out Old Overholt 10 for us as well.
The Knob Creek rye picks at 115 proof are more flavorful and a better overall value than the KC 10 year.
Maybe you were trying to avoid single barrels, but JD SBBP rye would have made this very interesting.
Agree on both KC and JDSBBP. The former is excellent, the latter sublime

I really need to find some more decent rye. I just had the Old Overholt 10 a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was fantastic, and significantly better than the Knob Creek 10. Keeping my eye out for the Pikesville and Sagamore. 👀
Tough to start out with the highest proof pour :)
Every time I sip a good rye, the taste tends to evolve over the entire time I sip the pour. It’s usually that the lingering finish taste seems to affect any flavor that comes with subsequent sips. I’m not sure how to compare them other than that outset taste from the very first sip, but you miss all that comes out later.
I have a few different bottles of Sagamore, but I don't think I have the 8 year..... you guys should do this again and add the old pepper rye at 110 proof and the 6 year prideful goat. Cheers
Blinds are always wild lol. I just had Pikesville beat an 11 year MGP rye and an Old Forester SBBP rye

That old overholt 10 is worth the price in my opinion. Pikesville is barely a rye whiskey. But still a good one for $55.00

About a year or so ago, I got Pikesville under $40. She's not under $40 in Seattle any more.

Pikesville was a Maryland rye as well back in the day. Now obviously they're a HH brand, but they're a part of the MD rye history.
Only in name. Heaven Hill changed the mash bill and it’s no longer made in Maryland. So they just bought the name.

I’ve been really loving that Sagamore cask strength rye. I say that it’s my current favorite, in fact each time I go to get something else this cask rye is there so I cave in and get it. If you can get one, do a bottle review on Hard Truth sweat mash rye single barrel. I have a bottle of it. but mine is a store pick from Gay's Hops and Schnapps in Lagrange, Indiana. I love mine. TonyB
I know there are a lot more rye options (labels at least, since most of it is MGP juice), but I'm a bit surprised you don't normally include the granddaddy of ryes in your blinds....Whistle Pig.

Where did you guys find Sagamore 8 year old? I am also in northern IN. I can get sagamore double oaked and the sherry finish whenever I want, but sadly I have never seen the 8 year old or the BiB.

The most interesting thing out of this video, and it’s not a condemnation of the blind, is this “ham and beans”. Can Kurt elaborate? Patreon cooking video? I really want to see what ham and beans looks like.
Just put a ham hock, a couple pounds of beans, and some water into a big pot and cook for about 3 hours

As I watch this I just today bought a bottle Rittenhouse, which has at this time is my favorite for a High Ball. But I'm always searching for that special bottle to share at family get togethers.
