I have 2 shows I would love to see.
    1. Review your barrel picks blind and see what ranks the best.
    2. Take 3 distilleries and get a bourbon and rye from them and blind them against each other. Which is better from each distillery and then the overall favorite of the group!

I stopped caring about allocated stuff a long time ago. There is so much good whiskey that is easy to find. No stress, no waiting, no ridiculous prices, etc.

There is value in reviewing hard to find bottles. First it confirms if it really is desirable. Second it prepares you if you have a slight chance to actually see it and have to make a decision. Third it gives a reading on the distillery.

Left this comment a few videos ago, but now I’m sold it’s a good idea for a new game show Friday blind!
Both of you have $100 to wager. There are 6 blind bottles you taste and then bid on. Both must end with 3 bottles and minimum bid for a bottle is $15. That way you can go a bit crazy on a bottle but you can’t spend it all. Then who vote who has built the better lineup.

I appreciate that you want your videos to be relatable and the bottles you review to be accessible. However, when comes to unicorn/rare whiskies, I assume many of us would rather experience it vicariously than not at all. Whether we get to taste the juice or not, half the fun is just kicking back and talking about it… and we’re glad to listen.

But this will never happen. There will always be people with more money than senses. It's just the way she goes. I won't pay secondary but I'll occasionally help out a little shop if they have a reasonable markup for a hard to find bottle (less than secondary but more than msrp)

I think we have to understand that even with the bourbon bubble slowly popping (which obviously will still be bigger than anytime before 2020), we’re gonna see these bottles released at high prices. People with high income treat these as collectibles (probably for good reason - can you imagine how big the next craze is gonna be when something else out of people’s control causes another boom?) and the distillers know this. They will continue to do these releases because its human nature to want to feel exclusive.

Loved this video, and I’d love to see more editions of this! I think a fun twist on this would be a “competition-esque” style of video where each of y’all give each other 2-4 pours to guess the price of, and the “winner” is the one who was able to make the other guess the largest difference from the pours actual price (either way, lower or higher)! I think it’s a great way to showcase some amazing values, and also some pitfalls for unsuspecting consumers.

Personally, I didn’t mind it. Sometimes you change your mind once you have that info. If it were something I really liked and said $100 and then found out that it could rarely be had, I might change my mind. Prices are functions of both supply AND demand. You can’t completely put the supply part of that aside as you make your decision.

Very good show, I don't know that I would ever buy any of these at secondary price (if I saw them) but still interesting to hear about them. I have had Weller Antique at MSRP (in Ohio) and loved it. I'm with Kurt on paying too much. I can find a number of great bourbons for under $80, so why pay more. I drink mine, not collect them. 21:50 Trenton disappears to find the whiskey
23:10 Kurt has his limits, but some of the bottles are worth more than msrp

25:55 Kurt is honest, sometimes to a fault and we love him for it
27:01 Trenton is losing focus, too long of an episode for him

Appreciate the efforts you guys go to for these videos. That being said, sometimes you tend to over think the simple. This was a great video idea, but would just ask 2 questions A) what's your guess at MSRP, B) what's the most you'd pay for it?
Release year, unicorn status, yada yada can be discussed afterwards. But it's great to get the opinion solely based on what's in the glass.

Really interesting video guys. I think you do these blinds the best of all the bourbon channels on youtube. I am curious though, if you could only buy one between MMCA and ECC921 which would you buy and how much in the secondary would you pay?

Not myself but my buddy bought a Penelope Rio at secondary after trying mine, that’s such a unique bottle unlike anything else in either of our collections. He felt it was worth having that as a “Wow factor” pour.

Hey, pipes are making a comeback! There's a whole you tube pipe community out there, and it's not just geezers. A good pipe pairs well with bourbon.

Doing my part in the whiskey price game and not buying anything over 80 bucks...that leaves me out of a lot of bottles but there is so much good stuff out there under 80...

I usually only tend to pay secondary for Michter's special releases. In my area, they are rarely seen so you have to pay a little extra when you find them.

I recently had my first pour of Weller Single Barrel. To me, it was as good if not better than my WLW. Which, is my #1 all time. I would pay secondary for it, just not the crazy $400+. I would do $200-300 no questions asked.

13DO, PHCDB, and OCDP are the ones I would pay secondary for.

I just got my first Weller full proof for 180 out the door. Some people laughed at me, but it's the cheapest I've seen it here in Michigan. Usually when I see it, it's at 250-300, so I jumped on it for 180.

Though I'd like to try them all, the 107 is the only bottle I've had, will gladly continue to pursue that as long as its reasonable. The first one I bought was $50 (yes) the second one I bought was $100. Second in line would be the Makers, purely from the fact that about every bottle I've had from Makers is plain old solid. 46CS, Wood Finishing, 101, Store pics.....all very solid. Cheers and great video!

Jack definitely worth it, even though the price has dropped significantly. Batch to batch, it's truly amazing.

The issue is the standard that these unicorn bottles leave you with. Such a high standard that would keep you coming back for more.

I enjoyed the video. But, I would have preferred if you had kept it connected to the idea of the value of the juice. For instance, using a readily available upper scale bottle you like (e.g. Rare Breed, Maker's 46 Cask Strength, Russell's Reserve 10 yr...or single barrel) and judging how much more you like and/or would pay for these unicorns. Like if Kurt only liked Weller Antique or Blanton's 10% more (or less) than one of those base bottles, that says a lot about whether you're paying for the juice OR the brand/hype. It's been proven OVER AND OVER AND OVER again that IF a consumer THINKS they are getting something fancy/nice, THEN their brain will subconsciously increase their perception of pleasure (and value). So once Kurt was told all the details about the unicorns, their price, their names....the experiment was over!

Listen, I think the secondary pricing bandits are hurting bourbon. Having said that, what I'm willing to pay is subjective. How much do I like it? Have I ever had it? Is it part of a collection that I have? Is it a gift for someone important? Etc.

Love love the comments particularly toward the end guys. Anyhow, I have never paid for secondary market. Don't think I will ever want to. I am lucky to started early enough back in the day. Still have lots of unopened bottles of high $ secondary market that I plan to enjoy over years to come. BTW, I am still have that EC C919. I don't remember now but I do like that EC B of 2029 better. Lastly, if I have an offer of Hibiki 21 for $300-400, I would buy it as that is much lower that MSRP in Japan! And it is great stuff....

I have about 20 bottles of ECBP and just checked on what was my oldest... I have an A119 & B519, nope, I don't have a C919... oh well.
